Subject: [DL-N] Just Two Things!
Day 4 Late Morning close to noon (right after Dev leaves the office)
The Sr. Wingleader stared at the organized pile of paperwork stacked
neatly on the desk. She exhaled slowly saying a silent thanks for
helpful queenriders. Dev was a godsend, not only was he incredibly
handsome, he was an excellent swordsman, charming to a fault,
well-mannered with just enough rogue to peak a girls interest. But
most importantly he was meticulous about paper work. Damn near the
perfect male in Breezy's book except for the fact his inclinations
didn't lie with the female persuasion, plus he couldn't cook worth a
damn. The cooking however could be compensated for, the other well,
that was an entirely different story. He was a dear friend though, and
that was all that counted. Filing some of the finished paperwork away
the quiet of the office was broken by a knock on the door.
<Snip>
"Jocko! Come in, Come in. Have a seat!" She offered him, pointing at
the chair in front of the desk.
He sat down and set his books next to him in the other chair.
"Coffee?" She offered him.
"Oh, no thanks." He smiled. "So you wanted to see me about something?"
"Yes, yes...." She started to working thought some papers.
<End Snip>
One of the reports caught her eye for a moment and she scanned it
intently finally looking up to gaze at the lanky young man.
"I have two things I wanted to talk to you about. One of course being
the children, as I mentioned last night." The young man brightened
immediately and Breezy smiled. "We do have several children of various
ages around the warren and I only mentioned a few. I've had Coo spread
the word through the dragons which means it won't take long for word
to get out there is a teacher of sorts around." The redhead grinned,
"If I know Dizzi at all you will have quite an audience for your
stories! She is rather young but loves being read to! Now there is a
room that was used as a classroom but, when the weather was nice
Deidra would hold storytimes outside. Even though they don't show it
the dragons themselves appear to enjoy these sessions and to be honest
you could end up with a 'bigger' audience then you intended." Breezy
chuckled and her eyes glazed for a brief moment as she sent a silent
message to the iridescent mother to be.
Jocko gazed at her curiously then smiled, "I'm very excited about
this, Janine helped me go through the books I have here, and we
selected several that I think are appropriate."
"That's wonderful, since I know the trainer is a bit indisposed at the
moment there won't be much for you to do the next couple of days. So I
guess the next thing is to get you introduced to the tiny terorists of
the warren!" The little redhead rose from the desk and went to the
cabinet where she knew Jeneve had stored some of the already
translated scrolls. "Being well read I'm hoping you are also familiar
with various types of scripts!"
"A few!" Jock answered his eyes widening at the obviously aged scrolls
that had appeared.
"One of our former rider's made a startling discovery and several
scrolls similar to this have been recovered. "Unfortunately, being
unfamiliar with the script it's taken us awhile to translate them. If
you're up to the task I would be most appreciative if you could take a
look at one to see if it's something you understand and that you might
be able to help? I'll give you these few to look over, they've already
been translated but I would like you to familiarize yourself with the
writing?" She stated more as a question.
Carefully Jocko unrolled the scroll and stared intently at the elegant
handwriting. Breezy held back the smile at the avid look she saw in
his eyes.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and the Wingleader said, "The
contents of these scrolls need to be kept confidential. I'll explain
it later, but for now look them over and if you decide you're up to
the task be on the green first thing in the morning. We'll take a
little trip that might be of interest."
Sitting back down Breezy bade enter and a rather tall blonde man
strode into the room. "You needed to see me?" Link asked.
"Link, this is Jocko, one of our new searchlings. He is also a scholar
and has agreed to read some stories to the children!" Breezy answered
with a smile. "I was hoping you might introduce him to the kids? I
imagine most of them will be heading to the dining hall for lunch
about now!" She added with a tired tone of gentle dismissal.
The two men shook hands and after a few moments of greeting they
excused themselves leaving the Wingleader to her work.

Subject: [DL-N] A Surprising Mission!
Day 4 Late Morning (in the Med center right before Breezy leaves)
<Snip>
"You didn't think of asking me, perhaps, instead of bothering Galen
and M'lent?"
"As if *you'd* have told me anything," Cat replied, with a hurt
expression, as though her intelligence had just been insulted.
<End Snip>
Breezy held back a yawn and an insatiable urge to stretch. Man she was
tired. "Listen Cat! You've never really given me a chance! When I came
you're loyalty lay elsewhere, and I can respect that! I may not tell
you what you want to hear, but I won't lie to you, so it never hurts
to ask."
With a weary smile she clapped a friendly hand on the young woman's
shoulder. "Despite the fact that you seem to like catching rats, and
that you are often found to be lurking places that you probably
shouldn't be, you're a damn good rider Cat, and a 'trusted' member of
this community!"
The dark haired woman blinked at her in surprise, "Really!"
Keeping a firm grip on the petite shoulder Breezy leaned close, "I can
trust you, right?"
Cat's eyes widened and she snodded her head vigorously.
"Good!" Breezy answered turning to walk down the hall. "Then I have
task that requires your talents! I was going to have you work with
Selena on the Ranker case, but I would like for you to find out for me
everything you can concerning Cyrus instead!"
Cat's mouth gaped open then she quickly shut it. "Sure thing!" She
quipped trying not to look to obvious.. Breezy held back a smile at
the conflicting emotions that crossed the ratcatcher's face.
"Walk with me and I'll tell you what I know!" As they strolled through
the Med-Center Breezy relayed the basics of what M'lent had shared and
the few reports she'd received from the 'eye' witness accounts..
Stopping Breezy turned to gaze sadly at the young woman, "It really
bothers me to think of Cyrus in an ill light even now. He was a nice
young man, but it was obvious he had some problems we didn't see. This
warren is a family in a sense and the rider's even closer, so what
affects one of us, affects us all and I can't help but feel we failed
him somehow."
Breezy's eyes took on a faraway look for a brief moment then pursing
her lips she continued, "But I don't blame him, I blame Marrselle,
he's a sick perverted old man that preys on the innocent and this
whole thing reeks of him! If Antwin was the target, that most
definitely has me wondering what the hell is going on! But then, it's
obvious being a Bard are not his only talents. He's a smooth talker
Cat, so if you catch up with him, don't trust him for a second!"
Pausing for a moment she inhaled deeply stifling another yawn, "The
bodies are at the Med-Center and so far the two have not been
identified. Ask around and see what you can find out. I'm sure there
is someone in the warren that knows something that Selena's men have
yet to uncover, then report back to me as soon as you can!" Moving
toward the door the redhead turned, "Do me a favor, leave Galen and
M'lent be for a day or two before you pounce on them. They both need
to rest especially Galen. They lost a good friend last night Cat, so
that will be weighing heavily on them. Go snoop around, see what you
can find out and I'll let them know later that you are 'checking
things out' and I'm sure they will want any information you can come
up with!"
The ratcatcher stood gazing at her more in shock then anything, and
Breezy smiled, "And Cat, do be careful! Never forget these guys play
for keeps! Trust me, if I didn't think you could handle yourself, I
wouldn't send you! But if you get into the slightest bit of
trouble...you holler as loud as you can!" The Wingleader added before
starting down the last leg of the hallway.

tired or rested!
Day 4
<Snip>
Anyways. The dead mans family is being taken care of. Take that anyway
you want cause I don't trust you enough to tell you any more. Just
know that the family is being taken care of." Ranker finishes. "Now go
ahead and yell away cause you look so cute when you yell."
<End Snip>
So dumbfounded by Ranker's strange confession a person could've easily
knocked the little redhead over with a feather at that moment.
She gaped at the man in shocked silence. There wasn't too many things
that left the little redhead speechless but Ranker had just found one
as she gazed at him as if he'd just grown an extra head.
Rising the Wingleader mutely paced behind the desk, her hands
clenching tightly. *Cute!* He'd called her *cute* of all things! Maybe
some other time or place she might be flattered, but definitely not
here and now. She'd fought all her adult life against her pixyish
looks, and it had been a hard road getting people to accept her as an
adult and a leader. Now out of the blue some yokel comes along and
yanks it right out from under her. With each step Breezy could feel
her temper rising and Ranker was just damn lucky she didn't throttle
him on the spot.
Inhaling deeply she finally managed to get control and turned to
speak, but he beat her to it.
<Snippets>
Ranker stands up looks to the door, and says "Are we through here?"
* Surprised by the way he was looking at her Breezy nodded replying
without thinking.
"Good! Do you think we can get this trial over with quickly. So I can
get back to my business. I've got a lead on the men that destroyed my
town, and want to get then as soon as possible." Ranker said as he
turned to the door.
Then he turns back, and says. "Oh. I will turn in one of my crossbows
later today for evidence. So please be here later. Like around early
evening please. I'm hoping the when the judge looks at it that it will
prove that my statement is true. You seen it, and know that with that
rapid firing mechanism that if I wanted to kill them then they would
be dead. All of them."
"Well good bye Breezy, And try to get some sleep. You look awful."
<End>
Breezy stared in stunned silence at the closed door. Off all the
nerve! Just who did this guy think he was? She didn't know which was
worse, first he compliments her, if it could be called a compliment
and then he tells her she looks like hell. To top it off he then
dismisses her as if she was a child. And his matter of fact attitude
about the whole thing, well that was enough to set her blood boiling
on top of every thing else. It only took a moment for the weary women
fueled by her anger to go flying out the office after him, her eyes
glazing for a brief moment as she passed an alert to Coo.
She startled several of the office personnel as she raced through the
halls and caught sight of Ranker as he exited the building. The fiery
redhead exploded out the door after him, "Whoooaaaa, hold on there big
guy!"
The large dragonrider turned to find the petite woman fairly prancing,
her cheeks flushed with anger, her eyes shooting sparks as she squared
off with the man. Ranker eyed her with tolerant amusement, which only
increased her ire.
"Listen buddy boy, lets get something straight, right here and now! I
don't give a shit how big you are and I don't know how many times I'm
gonna have to tell you that, to get it through that thick skull of
yours! Don't ever talk down to me! I will not be talked down to, by
you, or any man! And secondly, I don't care if the gods themselves
gave you a lead, you don't leave this warren until your innocence is
proven! If you give me the slightest bit of grief I will have you
slapped in irons so fast it'll make your head swim!" Managing to take
a breath she poked him square in the chest causing him to blink in
surprise. "And stop looking at me like that!" Pursing her lips in a
tight frown, "You know, you talk about trust, hooo boy you'd better
think long and hard about that, because this warren is about the only
thing standing between you and the gallows right now! Remember this
well, I can be your best friend, or your worst nightmare. Take your
pick!"
Breezy's tirade had drawn some of the rider's but then Ranker's
commanding presence towering over the smaller woman was enough to
bring them. Not that she really noticed them she was so mad, but she
did notice Vasklar whom was accompanied by his new 'friend'. For a
brief moment her eyes narrowed in speculation as she gazed at the
Searcher before turning back to Ranker.
"You know Ranker, I don't know you well enough to trust you either, or
if you can even manage to contain yourself if some of that man's
friends come looking to even the score." The corner of of the big
man's lips twitched upward even farther. "So I'll tell you what," she
continued, ignoring the smirk. Pointing to the Searcher, "This is
Vasklar, not sure if you've met formally, but he's gonna be your
watchdog until the trial! You don't even scratch your butt without him
knowing about it! You got that!" Looking from Ranker to Vasklar, who
gazed at her with steely eyes the exhausted redhead turned and stomped
back into the office, leaving the two men to stare at each other.
[..] Back in Jeneve's office
Jack stood in the doorway and watched the Sr. Wingleader fume. "Maybe
you should try and get some sleep. You look exhausted!"
Sighing she gazed at the accountant, "Later, and you don't look so hot
yourself!" Breezy answered pouring herself a cup of cold coffee.
"Do you realize you just turned the Warren Searcher into a
babysitter!"
"Yeah and your point is?"
Jack arched a brow, and Breezy sitting down at the desk exhaled
slowly, dropping her head to rub her eyes. "Listen Jack, despite the
fact that Vasklar and I have our differences," She rolled her eyes
unconsciously at their earlier confrontation outside the Med Center.
"I have no doubt that he will get the job done! Ranker is a brash,
cocky young man, and he needs to understand that the world is not his
for the taking. Vasklar is the perfect person to teach him that!
Knowing Vasklar, it could be a very painful lesson!"
