Subject: [DL-N] Where to Start?
Freya shook her head in frustration with her inability to
explain. "No, that's not what I mean," she said. "I should have said
she's taking it all *wrongly*. She *should* be upset, but she doesn't
seem to care. And it doesn't seem like the normal denial you might
expect when someone is beginning to grieve.
"I don't understand her," she concluded. "But you might. Just be
careful not to overtire her if you talk to her, okay?"
<end snip>
Dargis nodded in assent, "Okay, if I do talk to her I'll make
sure to keep it simple. She's been through a lot and so have you.
Go get some rest."
Freya shook her head and turned to leave, hopefully to get
some rest from the ordeal she had been through. Dargis felt bad that
he had missed so much of what had went on, but now that he was here,
he would make the most of it.
[..]
Day 4 late afternoon
Dargis heard some stirrings from within, a ****ft in the
sheets and blanket. Standing up, he stretched the kinks from his
joints before pu****ng the door open to peer inside, curious to see if
the warrenlady was awake.
Sticking his head inside the room, he could feel that
something wasn't quite right, that something was definitely off.
Freya had accurately described it, but Dargis couldn't pinpoint it,
not yet. He scanned the room to see if there was something out of
place, anything that didn't seem to belong. It wasn't until he
finally settled on the lone occupant of the room that he found it.
Jeneve was a far cry from the vibrant young lady he had come
to know during his stay here. There was an almost palpable glow that
had surrounded her which filled those around her with joy and
happiness. The glow was dimmed, almost to the point of extinction
and that worried Dargis to know end, his forehead creasing in concern.
He stepped fully in and closed the door behind him, the
audible click drawing Jeneve's attention. Her eyes met his and he
could see mixed emotions, most of them painful. He inhaled deeply
and managed a smile, "Hi Jeneve. I thought you could use some
company in here. At least, company that isn't a healer or somebody
like that."
Jeneve nodded and tried to sit up and Dargis moved to her
side, "Don't worry about sitting up. I'll be able to hear you and
you'll be able to hear me just fine."
Pulling up a chair, he rested one hand near her on the bed.
He looked her over intently and did his best to not seem too
concerned over her condition, "So, I see you've been taking good care
of the dragonflower."

Subject: [Changeling-WW] Journey's Start
Start a new chapter, I find what I'm after
Is changing every day
Change of the season's enough of a reason
To want to get away
- Rush "Fly by Night"
"If you are journeying to the Castle of Light, then you are more than
welcome to accompany us, though we have little to offer for services
rendered, other than friend****p." Cayln said graciously. "Have you
traveled the road often?"
"I travel many roads and never willingly leave for long." Kenisha
said,
smiling mysteriously in reply. "But never the same one twice unless
circumstances dictate the need."
With little more said, the eshu joined with the other fairie folk on
their
journey into the north. Though the freshly fallen snow was thick and
the
air crisp with cold, she seemed little touched by the winter. Perhaps
it
was the fire of adventure that kept her warm, but more than likely it
was
the Glamour formed companion that never strayed from the enigmatic,
dark
skinned, woman.
The hours passed quickly, and soon the sky was turning to a dull iron
grey.
There was a sharper smell to the air, the breath of winter threatening
that
perhaps all the snow that would fall this day had not yet fallen. A
campsite would be needed, for lunch in the very least, and Kenisha
made a
point of finding one.
Riding ahead some, she found a clearing.
"Seems cozy enough." Kenisha mused aloud.
Sari whistled a reply.
"No. I don't smell anything."
Sari warbled a bit longer, twitching as she slowly circled Kenisha's
body.
"Oh, don't be silly."
Kenisha hopped off her pony, a gift from the tavern owner which had
surely
been more due to the status of her companions than the innkeeper's
love for
a ****fty looking eshu of unseelie habits. Leaving her mount for the
moment,
Kenisha gave the clearing a quick scan. She circled the edges,
venturing a
few steps into the trees beyond.
"Look then!" Kenisha said triumphantly. "There is even water."
Kenisha had found a tumble of rocks, slick with a layer of ice from
the
spla****ng brook that bubbled up from beneath the ground. A tree had
fallen,
partially blocking access but by no means preventing the eshu from
breaking
the thin crust of ice and spla****ng some of the shockingly cold water
onto
her face.
"Now that's refre****ng!"
Sari warbled.
"No. I'm not about to take a bath, missy. Not even your glamour
could keep
me warm enough in that."
Sari warbled again, and Kenisha blushed.
"Well yes." She conceded. "But he appears to be taken, so I doubt he
would
offer to warm me afterwards, even if I do think it would be quite a
capital
idea."
"I've had enough of Sidhe and their possessive ideas on love to last
me a
decade." She added.
Standing up, Kenisha's foot slipped on the ice. She flailed her arms
a
moment in a very un-eshu moment of ineptitude before lurching forward.
To
keep from taking a very cold bath, she hopped forward, landing for a
moment
on the slippery trunk of the fallen tree before leaping forward again
to
land on the far side of the spring.
Deep cuts and scrapes in the rock provided her an easy foothold. Sari
whistled in curiosity as Kenisha crouched down and fitted two fingers
easily
into the depth of the scarred rock.
"No. It can't be a dragon." Kenisha said.
Sari hummed her debate of the issue.
"Because the dragons were either slain or made a pact with the High
King to
leave the travelers on this road alone." Kenisha told her friend.
"Besides, it's not really big enough to be a dragon."
Sari hummed some more.
"No. All the Wyverns moved to Wales." Kenisha said. "At least,
that's how
the song goes. Besides, what reptile would be out in this cold? This
is
probably just an old scar."
Sari whistled.
"No." Kenisha shook her head and scrambled around the spring so she
could
return to her pony. "I don't think we need to worry the others with
this.
They'd just want to travel on further and then I'd never find out if I
could
talk our noble knight into sharing a bath."
Sari whistled again.
"Well. Maybe I haven't had enough of Sidhe possessiveness for this
decade
after all."
And with some thoughts that were not exactly unseelie but certainly
thoughts
that would cause trouble were she to give them voice, the eshu
returned to
tell her companions of the campsite she had found.

Hey now, you're an allstar
Get your game on, go play
- Smashmouth "Allstar"
"MIV!" said Calyn, pu****ng her aside so that he could sit up and check
his
bruised ribs. "Stop it! Slow down! Just tell me - what happened? WHY
did you
change?"
Miv's mouth formed into a little 'O'.
She turned back to the way she'd arrived, just as the trees and bushes
there
began to tremble, and the sounds of hissing and heavy footsteps
reached
them.
Sari whistled sharply in exclamation while Kenisha looked towards the
brush
with eyes that flashed with excitement.
"Okay, okay." She patted her ribbon. "You were right, we should have
mentioned the tracks."
Sari sang out more forcefully, sounding rather like a mother scolding
a
child caught sneaking sweets before dinner time.
"No, I still don't think it's a wyvern. They have wings. It might
be a
very fat basilisk, but then our darling kitty-pooka would be a garden
statue
of some sort."
Kenisha looks towards the Sidhe Knight and bows.
"My Lord, might I inquire as to how many dragons you have slain before
today? If it is a great beast that approaches, I would like to
properly
introduce you before the battle begins."

Subject: [USS Capricorn] Softly She Lowers the Boom
BD 9 On the Beach
He saw her smirk before she looked away and the big man grinned, "I
don't
think Ury will be using his cabin tonight, so there would be no
problem with
you bunking there, but I really hate for our evening to end like
this." He
sat for several minutes in contemplation, "You know Lady, there's a
very
nice hot tub hidden behind the cabins and it sounds pretty inviting
about
now. That's if you're game?"
Drop dead gorgeous? A'kora mused at the word choice silently as Moran
spoke
to her. What was the human phrase? Chatted her up?
Due to her half Romulan heritage, the engineer was not subject to the
rigors
or impulses of Pon Farr, but she had lived a celibate life for some
time.
She had a competitive edge that most males found very disconcerting
and a
Vulcan curtness that made them even more uncomfortable.
The medical team came over, examining the bruise on her temple and
giving
her a short session with the hand held bioregenerator. Moran had
several
more serious scrapes and a gash along his shoulder from a Nausican
tusk
which also received some attention. After both officers promised to
visit
medical sometime during the next morning to have a follow up session,
they
were left alone again.
"If you would show me where. Ury?" One eyebrow raised in typical
Vulcan
inquisitiveness. "Where this Ury Cabin is at first." She gave him
the
barest hint of a smile. "And perhaps tell me who Ury is so that I can
thank
him for the use of his cabin later."
Falling in step beside Moran, she let him guide their path to the
cabin. A'
kora felt keenly aware of him, and wondered if it were due to his
Klingon
heritage or the exhilaration of the skirmish.
"I think our adventure tonight might be at an ending." A'kora said at
the
doorway. "It has been a taxing day in many ways, and I feel fatigued
from
travel as much or more than the debate we held with the Nausican
visitors."
A'kora looked up at him.
"I do look forward to serving onboard with you, and perhaps to share
further
debating sessions with you."
