Subject: Who Counsels the Counsellor?

Scene: The Cave, MD 3:0500

"Not yet, ah guess ah was jus' thinkin' maybe ah could find her
walkin'
'round with mah......" Georgi fell silent, her gaze drifting to the
food on
her plate.

"Instinct?" Lorn asked, not sure how else to phrase Georgi's ability.

A little smile twitched at the corners of her mouth, "Yeahhhh, ah
guess ya
could call it that?"

Lorn signaled Angel for a fresh pot of hot water. The only problem
with hot
tea is that it tended to grow cold far too quickly. He prepared a
fresh cup,
and found himself lost in the same thoughts Georgi was in. The loss of
Van
was difficult to take, a person under his command gone, and they had
not
even gone out on their first mission yet.

Apparently his stirring got to Georgi, and she broke him out of his
thoughts. "Lt. Commandah, meanin' no disrespect, suh, but whatju all
do with
tea is downright sacrilege". The small redhead raised her own glass of
cold
iced tea.

It was Lorn's turn for giving a slight smile. "I have a long line of
ancestors who would readily argue against you, counsellor. As for me,
I like
both, though after today's events, I needed something to mellow me
down." He
placed the spoon down on the saucer, then looked over at her. "I know
just
how you're feeling."

Georgi nodded. She should have guessed that the First Officer would be
taking the loss just as hard, if not harder. "Now doan go beatin'
yourself
up, suh, thar ain't nothin' ya coulda done." She said, reaching out
and
placing her hand on his. It always seemed impossible to be off-duty
when you
were a counsellor.

Lorn nodded. "Sometimes that doesn't help, though. Makes one feel
powerless."

"In tha end, we can't stop death, it always trumps us." Georgi
replied,
sadness tinging her words. "But, we doan know wha happened to her, so
thar's
always hope."

Lorn sipped his tea, letting the warmth flow through him.

After a bit of common silence, Lorn took a deep breath, and set aside
his
now empty cup. "I should get back on duty." He said to her. "But I've
been
wondering, who counsels the counsellor? My door's always open as
well." Lorn
smiled as he stood up. "Until next, counsellor."

Spying Ensign Coltraine at the bar, Lorn made his way to the new OPS
officer. He hadn't really had time to get to know the younger man, and
Lorn
felt that Louie should get a chance to know him as well.

Lorn waited a few seconds patiently as he finished his conversation.
"Are
you finished, Ensign?" he asked.

"Uh, yes sir!" Louie said, snapping around to attention.

"Walk with me, if you would." Lorn said, walking out of the Cave.

Louie quickly followed, saying a quick farewell to Casey, and caught
up with
the First Officer.

"So, Ensign," Lorn asked as they walked down the corridor. "What do
you
think of your time so far aboard the Calypso?"

Scene: Briefing Room, MD 4, 0645

Lorn entered the briefing room with a quick stride. A couple of the
senior
officers had already shown up, but there were a few more still to
arrive. He
said his good mornings, and went to chat with the officers until the
Captain
showed.

NRPG: Catching up on things, and to get things going on the mission
front.
Whoever wants to be early can feel free to chat with the FO.

Josh: Lorn just wants to make sure that Louie is settling in, and to
let him
know that the XO is open to suggestions and available to talk to.

Chris, aka Commander Lorn Mitchell, XO, USS Calypso

Day 4 Mid Afternoon in Voldorra

<Snip>
The three men hurried to the guard shack and the elder rider gazed
thoughtfully at the young girl pacing impatiently. His breath caught
in his throat for a moment when hearing their footsteps she turned
towards them and he found himself staring into the deepest blue eyes
he had ever seen. Clearing his throat S'ran stepped forward. "Hello
Miss, I'm S'ran, and this is R'tem," he said indicating the other
rider, "the guard told us you've had some trouble over at Ravensdale?
What can you tell us before we go?"
<End Snip>

Cherry stepped closer, so eager to see the leatherclad riders arrive,
but her foot caught in the hem of her skirts and down she went,
falling onto her hands and knees at the feet of S'ran. R'tem
schooled his features to keep from laughing at the look on S'ran's
face, knowing this was not the time for levity. S'ran blinked but
bent down and offered his hand as the girl scrambled to get back up
with the practice of one for whom such mishaps were not uncommon.

"Sorry. I tripped. Yes please. I need your help. They took my
sister. They took Celeste. Men, armed men. Maybe a dozen or more.
They said Mr. Lawrence wouldn't hurt her if we gave them what he
wanted, but.please help."

R'tem stiffened as the girl mentioned Lawrence's name, remembering a
man by that name who had tortured and killed at least one of
Norwall's riders in some sick scheme against the mindgifted. He only
hoped it wasn't the same man.

R'tem mentally called for Rillith, [Brother, can you get a hold of
Qualis? I think we may need K'tarr here. Tell him it has to do with
Lawrence. And see if you can round up a few more. L'kor and Jahn
should be on patrol, but K'lvin should be free. Try Link, Dargis,
Vaslkar and Sylvie and maybe Pepper. Anyone who's free and combat
trained. We've got armed men attacking Ravensvale and they've taken
a girl.]

Rillith relayed the request immediately, and lifted up off the ground
near the town walls so he could meet up with his rider. Thankfully
he and Jasper had filled their bellies with coal that morning and
didn't need to refuel in case things went bad.

Cherry, unaware that R'tem had already summoned help, bit her lip, as
her conscience caught up with her. "Sir, they want you to come..they
said they wouldn't give my sister back unless the dragonriders came.
I.please. I'm so scared what they'll do to her." Her blue eyes
filled with tears, as she wrung her hands fearfully, ready to beg for
their assistance.

"Sh-h-h-h. It'll be okay, Miss." S'ran pulled her against his chest
and hugged her tight, rubbing her back, soothingly. He glanced at
R'tem who nodded to let his partner know he'd sent for
reinforcements.

Cherry rested her head against the handsome man's chest for a moment
until she got herself under control, and then pushed lightly away.
"I'm coming with you."

"Miss." R'tem stepped in to dissuade her, then paused when he
realized he didn't know her name. "What's your name?"
"Cherry." She flashed a determined look at the other rider. "And
I'm going with you."

Respectfully submitted by,
Cherry
Aka Bianca Payne

Summary:
Day 4-midafternoon
In Voldarra, Cherry relays to the dragonriders S'ran and R'tem about
the men who took her sister. R'tem calls for reinforcements from
Norwall when he hears Lawrence may be involved. S'ran tries to
comfort Cherry in her fear, but she pushes away, insisting on coming
with them.
