Subject: [DL-N] Rescues
Day 4 - late morning
The admission of Jeneve hit Dargis like a ton of bricks, he
was unable to speak for a moment, unsure of how to soothe her grief
for a moment. He usually knew what to say, what to do, just like he
did with plants.
He nodded, absorbing what the warrenlady had said, making
sure that what he spoke next would be the right words, "There is
nothing wrong with that."
He stopped, a little stunned by his own statement. The
gardener had been taught to revere life above all else, to cherish it
and make it grow. Plants that had been almost lost because of
neglect he had nourished back to health. This wasn't greenery,
though, this was different. It was a human life, a newborn child
that has died before it had ever really had a chance. However, he
didn't believe that Jeneve not wanting to be a mother had anything to
do with the child's death. There were far easier ways to not be a
mother. This was a simple tragedy, where no blame could be laid.
The thoughts flashed through his head in an instant, "Whether
you wanted to be a mother or not would not have changed the outcome.
Simply carrying the child to term demonstrated that you were not
neglectful. This much I know."
She shook her head in disbelief and began to speak, but he
put up his hand, "I'm simply stating what I believe to be true. I
know I shouldn't be saying these things now while you are recovering,
but I just want you to know that I don't think that it is your
fault. That no matter what other people may say or think, yourself
included, I will be here for you and sup****t you. It's what friends
do."
He felt and found her hand and held it, "I think I've talked
enough. I promised Freya that I wouldn't tire you out too much and I
think were I to stay, I'd want to talk lots more, and that wouldn't
help you rest. I'll come back no later than tomorrow, though. I'll
bring a couple more plants, too. Make things look a little more
green."
He felt a small squeeze from her and a wan smile. He smiled
back and reached to smooth the hair back from her face without even
thinking, "Sleep well, Jeneve."

Day 4 - Mid Afternoon (Voldorra)
In a flash, Dargis and D'lion winked into existence over the
rider's station at Voldorra. He had received the summons and was
among the first to respond. The rest would be following shortly.
**So you think this Lawrence fellow is the same one?**
<Probably. I don't know much about him, but he sounds
dangerous.>
D'lion landed and Dargis slid off the yellow dragon, taking
his halberd out of the saddle as he did so. He walked over to where
S'ran and R'tem were standing beside another woman, "I got here as
soon as I could, the others will be along shortly."
S'ran gave Dargis an appraising look, "Wasn't expecting you
to show up."
Dargis shrugged, "I wouldn't have expected me, either, but I
figure now is a good time to start changing that. D'lion mentioned
that this Lawrence person wanted riders to show."
R'tem jerked his head over at Cherry, "That's what she said."
Dargis moved to stand in front of Cherry, "Hi, I'm Dargis.
We're going to get your sister back, don't worry."
Cherry looked at him, "I'm coming with you to make sure you
do."
Dargis looked over at the other two who nodded their
heads, "Okay. Well the others should be getting here soon. Since
we'll be flying there, we should give you some quick instruction on
dragonriding, just to be safe."

Day 4 Noonish
<Snip>
as Breezy turned to walk away Ranker took her arm gently not to make
any sudden moves so the masses don't attack. He turned her around, and
planted a kiss right on her lipps. Then he whispered in her ear with
all the respect he could muster. " Yes mam. What ever you say I'll do
until the trial is over."
Breezy slaps him in the face as the audiance went aww. "Don't ever
kiss me again!" She said as she turned to walk away.
<End Snip>
Fuming at Ranker's audacity Breezy was two seconds from totally losing
her cool. Reaching for the door latch she heard a faint familiar
chuckle and that was all that was needed to send the small woman
flying over the edge. The little Wingleader spun so fast that Ranker
was unprepared for her assault until he found himself jerked downward
by the collar of his tunic until he was eye to eye with the furious
redhead.
"Why you arrogant son....." the audible gasp from the onlookers made
Breezy remember herself and she clamped her lips shut for a brief
moment. "You know I oughta rip your lips off for that, but fortunately
for you I'm in a reeeeal good mood!" She snarled only inches from his
nose. "Get a grip on yourself Ranker! Playing grab ass is what got you
in trouble in the first place! Now dammit, behave yourself!"
Abruptly releasing the death grip she had on his collar Breezy spun
away glaring at the Searcher who stood watching with a knowing
expression. "Do you think you can handle this?" She snapped reaching
for the latch. The hinges of the heavy door creaked as Breezy jerked
it open and slammed it loudly behind her. She was still muttering
angrily to herself when she ran into Jack.

Subject: [DL-D]Blades of Passion
[Day 100]
[Early Morning]
[Training Grounds]
Sun light glistened off the blades that danced between the two men,
both
in their prime yet so different. The red hair one had several scars on
his chiseled body he wielded a beautiful blade with a gold hilt and
fought with a controlled rage. The other man fought with a polished
silver blade in each hand. His long blond hair braided and his body
coated with a ****n of sweat was unblemished as he blocked, countered
and
leaped away to avoid the others more masterful and more accurate
attacks.
A larger man with short black hair watched, for these were his best
friends whom he had loved since childhood. He was worried about his
friend with the red hair. His mind still remembered his fear at seeing
him after the attack. The big man had lost him once when the other was
taken to the warren when the searcher had spotted dragon affinity in
his
friend Solthan, or should he call him S'than as the warren residence
do.
The dragon bond was something neither him nor his blonde friend Adams
could share. Yet, the friend****p over the years still remained strong.
Though after the attack, S'than seemed to not have the playfulness he
was so well known for and he only seemed concerned at how to kill the
dark creatures. This wasn't the first practice; nearly everyday they
would meet and drill, but it became painfully clear that only Adams
with
his two blades could really keep up with the fury of S'than countering
him with Calmness.
Adams mind reflected over the last few days as he countered his
friend.
He knew that Palace would jump in to stop either from really harming
each other. When he returned home from the academy running away from
home and town and working in a warren was the furthest from his mind.
The med staff quickly recognized his talents and let him help. Yet,
there were things with dragon riders that he had never been trained
for.
He knew the bond they shared with their dragons was very strong and
the
longer they were bonded the more like one they were. When a rider had
lost her dragon it was like her soul was lifted from her body and no
one
was home anymore. Then there were the scars and burns that the dark
creatures they now called Wyverns did when they damaged the riders.
Horrors that Adams couldn't even dream up were like daily events in
the
warren. The queen rider Panda he found amazing. She appeared fragile
and
ready to break yet, when it came to helping others she came across as
the bravest one among them. With the attack on Solthan Adams feared
the
loss of his friend, though it would have broken Palace's heart most.
The
big man always seemed busy around the warren but no one never really
ever saw the large clumsy man lift a finger in work.
A sharp repose and Adams had to concentrate on his defense and less on
his thoughts. S'than seems oblivious to his surroundings. He enjoyed
the
work out and was very grateful to have his two friends here with him.
The reasoning for them being here was another matter. The attack of
the
clan in Triylar along with the attacks of the Wyverns had gotten
everyone on edge. S'than had put his lute aside only bringing it out
when Angel was insistent that he play her a song or tell her a story.
It
was strange the effect the little girl had on him. It was as though
when
she was around he was at ease. The bard in him had retired and all he
wanted to do was climb onto S'laze and search out Wyverns. T'rell had
said he admired his tenacity but was getting a bit angry at the risk
he
was taking. There was a time he thought he would have found silky skin
and bright eyes a distraction, but when ever he had ***ual urges he
felt
the pains of guilt for what had happened to his bond mate S'laze.
Instead he would take to the skies the best time was at night when the
Wyverns were out. It never took terribly long to find them. S'laze
would
gain some height and use the wind drifts to build up speed. The breath
was always held for last. With wings out they would dive after the
Wyverns the dark creatures would try to roll under her red belly but
the
fire red dragon was more agile and they would soon find their own
bellies exposed to her sharp claws. The jarring and near sudden stop
would caused them to spiral toward the ground, but S'laze wouldn't let
go of them until she was certain there was no stopping their
plummeting
death. Rider and dragon would only barely escape. Once again they
would
climb into the sky where she was apt to bellow a challenge to the dark
creatures.
The blades whirled in front of the two combatants like iron s****s
dancing in the light of the sun. Their deadly bites only inches from
drawing blood. S'than's attacks were so fast the large man had a hard
time following the blade while Adams weaved a pattern with his two
blades to keep the other from scoring a hit. As the blades danced the
men would circle around each other. The Fury of S'than tended to drive
Adams back something he could not have done in a closed room. The two
were growing tired and the big guy knew an end was near. With such
long
combats and no clear winner someone was bond to miss a step. When it
happened it took the big guy by surprise Adams missed a counter and
S'than was quick to take advantage of it driving Adams back, the big
man
for all his clumsy looks was quick to break them up and get his
friends
attention. "Hold up there Solthan can't have you slicing up the healer
who else is going to but you back together if'n your all broke up."
Pulling back the red head quickly lowered his guard and stepped back,
"My apologies Adams and thank you Palace you are quite right Panda
would
likely have me dumping bed pans if I hurt her precious healer."
"Bah! She hardly notices I'm living." Replied Adams as he sheathed his
blades.
"Not notice the great healer in her midst." Palace mocked surprise.
"Oh like you've done any better with Weya," Adams teased
"Well our relation****p is one of peculiar taste." The big man replied
as
though his dignity had been hurt.
"Yea, I believe the taste being on the part of a certain wolf not to
mention her doe eyes for that Dante fella." S'than added.
All three men laughed, as they mentally reflected on the past when
they
watched the girl sleeping in her room in the med center. Adams and
S'than cleaned off the sweat from their bodies and put on soft white
****rts.
"Ah lads it's a good thing I'm here to keep you safe, how much trouble
you would end up with out me." Palace stated as if he was an uncle.
"Well likely a bit less but not that, we are complaining mind you,"
Adams replied.
"True enough," S'than started. "Just imagine since he has been here we
each have managed to get kicked out of the Lusty Duchess at least a
dozen times. We had to pull Palace out of the mess hall before the
cook
decided to add him to the night's pot."
"Don't forget sneak him out of the med center before Panda found out
that he was stealing the brandy for his own amusement." Adams
injected.
"Now I swear I only took that to mend my bunion," Palace countered.
"I would buy that if it was one bottle but a Case." Adams shook his
head.
"Well it's a big bunion," the large man complained.
But the look on his face soon had Adams and S'than laughing once more.
After a moment the bard stopped and got that far off look his friends
knew to be the way he communicated to the dragon.
"Seems Galendriel is going to be laying her eggs we should escort
Adams
over in case they need another healer." S'than suggested.
"Egg hatching, I would love to see it but I honestly hope they don't
expect me to help. A dragon and a human may be able to bond together
but
their anatomy is completely different." Adams looked a bit worried.
"Perhaps they just need you to catch the eggs." Palace suggested.
"Could be, but have you seen the size of an egg it could deliver a
cow,"
S'than added. The shocked look on Adams face was priceless and Palace
and S'than swept up there friend to hurry him along.

"Fluid Time" In the forests of Ryennesmoor
"I'm sorry Sir, I had no idea he was planning this! If I had, we could
have taken proper action to stop him!"
Pale eyes focused on the beads of sweat rolling down the side of the
stableman's face and the hooded man faintly nodded, the movement
barely showing in the dark material covering his head, his voice was
but a deep whisper when he spoke, "I know, he fooled us all. "We must
now take appropriate measures to make sure his foolishness goes no
further. The last thing we need is some lunatic running off on his own
personal vendetta! Lawrence's actions could be our undoing and ruin
everything we've worked for!"
"Sir, Brona trusted him, that's why I brought him and his family to
the estate! The young Lord is rarely there and the Old Duke is no
longer in his right mind, so I figured it would be the safest place
for him. Little did I know, the recruiting he's been doing was for his
own purposes." the Stableman edged in angry frustration, embarrassed
by his misplaced trust.
The man nodded, "We have a strict code for a reason Ean! We need no
traitors in our midst, and Lawrence has just proven himself to be one!
Do you know who his men are? Are any of them ours?"
"I know of most of them Sir! Thankfully only a few are ours!"
"Put the word out that these men, all of them Lawrence included, are
not to be trusted for any reason. And just for the record, Brona did
not completely trust Lawrence, but he did trust his methods for
getting information!"
The man nodded hesitantly at the darkly clad figure, the man they
called Hawke, Brona's most trusted man. Some said he was actually
Brona's son, or possibly a younger brother, others said he was the son
of a rich nobleman or even the King. But the identity of the hooded
man remained a secret, and those few that knew the man 'behind the
mask' remained silent.
"Starting a war with the dragonriders before we're ready, is sheer
lunacy and something that will not be tolerated!" Hawke continued
bringing the man out of his obvious contemplation.
Both men tensed at the sound of a stick cracking in the brush, each
silently readying their weapons. A high-pitched trill made them relax
and Tain, head groundsman for the estate stepped quietly through the
heavy foliage. Gazing from one man to the other he nodded respectfully
towards the faceless man. "It's good to see you Hawke! The winter has
been long!"
Hawke acknowledged the show of respect. "Thank you Tain! It's good to
see you too! It appears we have a problem, or should I say several
problems that need tending too. Unfortunately Lawrence knows just
enough to be dangerous to us, so plans, locations, certain personnel
all need to be rotated immediately! The rest must go to ground, I want
nothing left to the obvious."
"I'll see to it right away!" Tain acknowledged.
"The Watchers will be sent to the men's villages! They will know what
to do if that idiot gets too far out of line." The deep voice spoke
with deadly meaning and the two nodded in understanding. The Watchers
were just as mysterious as the hooded man, but one thing was for
certain, if the Watchers were being called out, then someone was
marked for death, or worse.
A strange silence fell over the trio, only the sound of the wind
ruffling the leaves in the treetops could be heard. Then a faint
rustle came and the men looked down to see a mouse scurrying it's way
through the dried leaves. For several moments nothing moved then
suddenly the groundsman struck with his boot cru****ng the mouse
beneath it the long tail flipping wildly until it ceased all movement.
Small splatters of blood dotted the leaves around the boot and Tain
gazed down with little emotion before clearing his throat,. "Milord
has sent word ahead that he will be arriving soon to inspect the
estates."
Hawke nodded with an unseen smile, "Is your Lord aware of the new
tenants on his property?" Steely eyes searched the faces of each man.
"Tis my fault Sir, really! I swear Tain had nothing to do with
bringing Lawrence and his family here! But I can assure you that his
family will not be a problem!"
"I didn't think they would be," Hawke answered quietly. "If necessary,
they will be the first ones to be marked, as a warning to the others
of course!"
The Stableman nodded, Lawrence's daughter was a sweet child, but
despite his own misgivings he would do as he was ordered. The land had
to be purified of the dissenters that soiled it.
