Subject: [WEB] Coming to an Understanding

Day 19th of April 2004
Afterrnoon
Kysen's house

Kysen finished up her paperwork, and signed the needed forms. She
straightened her office and went up to her private chambers and went
through
her meager wardrobe to find something she could feel comfortable in
and yet
not stand out too much. She had noticed that she would need a much
simpler
blending in type of clothing if she wished to pursue her interest of
photography, and try to follow up the clues she had gleaned from the
previous day's papers.

Kysen found something she liked; was comfortable in, and she could
blend in
as a native. She gathered the equipment she needed, along with a
gilded
engraved invitation for Fi to join her at the Charity Ball and Opening
Season of the Opera.

With everything set, she made her way downstairs and called for the
car to
be brought around. She told Tanys where she was going, and roughly
what
time she expected to return home. She apologized for the late
cancellation
of the afternoon staff meeting, and asked her to explain it to their
newest
member of the team.

Tanys nodded and took notes and promised her that her light meal would
be
waiting for her return. She asked her to be safe, in which Kysen
chuckled,
nodded and reassured her this was just a simple little fact-finding
mission.

Kysen left when the buzzer announced that the car had pulled up and
was
ready to take her to her destination. She slipped into the back seat
and
soon they were driving towards the downtown area.

Kysen sat lost in her thoughts and the swirling bits of information
that
floated through her mind as she watched the changing scenery flow past
her
window. She watched the changing vistas as they traveled through the
streets, and she even began to remember the names of the areas that
they
drove through.

Once down in the general area she needed to be she stopped the driver
and
got out of the car. Giving him her instructions, and about the time
frame
she was going to need, she sent him on his way to deliver those
invitations
she felt needed to be hand delivered. She held the one she wanted to
personally give, and set out to find Fi and her office, within the
department she worked in.

Kysen found with the right smile and certain words, she was escorted
to the
proper floor, and given a verbal instruction of how to find her office
and
personal lab. Kysen smiled and waved her thanks and even took the
name of
the young guard and promised he and a date would have admittance to
the gala
event.

Kysen turned and made her way down the hall and went straight to
Fionula's
office. As was expected Fi was not in her office. Kysen stepped in
and
made a quick check of her neat orderly desk. She looked around to see
if
there was anything of interest that would help her with her
investigation
and she noticed a cute cat statue sitting on the shelf nearest her
desk.
Kysen studied it for a moment and smiled. She could sense it was more
than
it appeared. At first it resembled the little statues that Fi use to
make
when she was younger, but it radiated a special-ness about it, and Ky
smiled
and nodded her head. It had been given to her as a gift, from her
Goddess
and mentor. She was glad to see that Fi was slowly beginning to
accept who
and what she was. She slipped out of the office and made her way to
the lab
where she was told that Fi worked.

When she got to the lab she peered in through the shuttered window and
saw
her busily working. That frown on her face told Ky she was not happy
with
either the tests or the results. Ky rapped once on the door and when
Fi
looked up Ky stepped in.

"What are you doing here?" Fi asked perturbed at the disturbance.

"Checking up on ya." Ky replied with her easygoing smile. "I heard
about
the murders and abductions in last night's news, and thought I would
drop by
and see how you are doing." She finished up her explanation before
Fionula
could and would give her a lecture on the propriety of allowing
someone to
do their work.

"Well then you know that I am very busy." She replied back. She
turned and
went back to her tests.

"Yes, I can see." Kysen replied, and wandered aimlessly around the
lab,
looking at samples, glancing at the tests and the few re****ts that
were
laying about the counters. She walked with her usual air of
indifference
and said nothing for a bit.

Fionula watched her out of the corner of her eye with suspicion and
then
again stopped and sighed. "Ok Ky, I know you want something, out with
it."

Kysen spun around smiling and winked. "You know me so well." She
chuckled
lightly. "It is true I have come here for one sole purpose." Kysen
stepped
closer and held out the invitation.

Fionula looked at the piece of gilded parchment in her hands and
groaned
louder than she meant to. "Ky, you know I hate this kind of stuff."

"I know." Ky replied. "Think of it as work related." She smiled
mischievously. "I would so like you there, it is on a Friday night,
SO you
can sleep in over the weekend, many of the people involved in these
cases
will be there, and I do believe there maybe a clue or two we can
find."

"Clues?" Fi retorted. "Ky, you are NOT a detective, nor a re****ter."

Kysen grinned and chuckled. "True, I'm not. BUT, I am a free-lance
photojournalist, WITH connections, and I am nosy and tenacious." She
answered. "Best of all, I don't need a paycheck, so I can chose what
interests me."

"Ky, THIS is not child's play." Fionula spoke seriously, not wi****ng
to hurt
or dampen her spirits, but what Fi had before her now, was someone who
played extra hard, and very dirty and had no social conscious at all.
She
did not wish to lose Kysen again to the darkness and unknown.

"Fi, DON'T ya see? THIS is why I was brought back, THIS is whom I am
to
fight and return him to where he belongs. NO one can do this, but me,
and I
NEED your help." She pleaded.

"How in the hell does THIS help you?" she replied back waving the
invitation
in Kysen's face.

"I need you by my side." She answered simply. "I want you to have a
fun
evening, I can arrange dates or escorts for us?" She offered
cheerfully.
"It will be loads of fun Fi, and the dress is on me!" she stated
before she
could be refused.

"NO escorts!" Fi snapped. "I still remember the last time! I work
for the
NYPD Ky, I can't be arrested for . . ." she let the sentence fade
away. She
looked sternly at Kysen.

"It wont be like that, Fi." She chuckled remembering the incident.
"It
wasn't all THAT bad, and they dropped the charges." She added
sincerely.

"My mother never forgot!' Fi whipped back altho lacking the ferocity
she
needed.

"Well, times have change, and we both have." Kysen responded. "I have
a
position I must maintain now too Fi."

Fi nodded and sighed and opened up the gilded parchment and noted the
theme
of the of charity ball. "Egyptian?" she moaned. I can't promise the
opera,
but I will attend the Ball." Fi answered flatly.

"Deal!" Kysen announced. "I will have the car waiting for you." Kysen
responded happily.
Kysen hugged her sister-friend. "Shall I have the dresses waiting? Or
shall
I drop them off here?"

"NOT here." Fionula spoke up quickly. "At home is better."

Kysen nodded and smiled and hugged her once more and stepped back.
"Best be
letting you back to your work. If you have any questions, about. .
well you
know who, call me."

Fionula nodded and watched Kysen leave her lab. She heard her
footsteps down
the hall and she turned back to her work.

[TAG KK - any thoughts or new discoveries?]

Kysen slipped back into her office and glanced around again and
finding the
names she has come in for left with a sense of mission accomplished.
She
decided she needed to make her way to a few of the sites of the
victims and
see if by chance she could pick up anything that she could use to stop
him.

Kysen left the giant building and began to walk across the courtyard
and
contemplated about catching a cab, or perhaps the subway. It had been
years
since she had done that. She turned and bumped into a large person.
She
looked up and saw the menacing eyes and dark brooding aura.

"Lucien!" Kysen exclaimed surprised to see the newest member of her
team
standing before her. If she did not now better, she would have
surmised he
was ready to dispose of her.

He quickly gripped her arm and began to lead her away. "Lady Ky, you
are
needed back at your home." He replied firmly between what appeared as
clinched teeth. The set of his jaw told her he was thoroughly
displeased.

Kysen felt the warm comfort of her mentor and the reassurance that she
would
be well and Lucien was in fact her protector. Kysen relaxed and
allowed him
to half dragged her to the waiting car.

Lucien relieved to have found her so quickly turned his fear into
anger so
he could deal with her. She needed to understand just how much danger
she
was in, and she needed to learn that she was to go no where without
him. He
opened the door and helped her in. Then instead of sitting in the
front, he
moved around the other side and got in.

"We need to talk." He replied simply studying her. "Now is a good as
time
as any."

Kysen felt her ire rise and she began to retort a response when the
look on
his face stopped her cold. She was suddenly very uncomfortable being
in
such a close range to this . . . man.
If not for the calming influence from her mentor flowing through her,
whispering soft gentle bits of knowledge she would have bolted from
the car.

Lucien took a deep breath and let it out, trying to calm the swirling
emotions that flowed through him. The look on her face was one mixed
with
anger and terror. He did not wish to scare her, but he did not wish
to feel
what he did when he discovered she has slipped from his notice.

Lucien was still not acclimated to his human form as of yet, and it
had been
sometime since he last had to deal with such things as fear-based
emotions.
He was the one who was the one who issued those emotions to others.
He
leaned towards her to try to get her to understand, and Kysen seeing
his
movement leaned away placing her back against the other side of the
vehicle.

"Lady." Lucien began.

"I will forgive you this once, for you do not seem to understand that
which
you have been brought here." Kysen jumped in. The anger in her tone
evident.

"No My Lady, YOU do not realize why I have been brought here." He
corrected
in a serious tone. "You have no idea what you are up against, and how
deadly it can be for you to be caught on your own."

Kysen studied him intently as the car moved silently through the night
traffic of the streets.

"I am perfectly aware of what I am up against, and whom." She
countered.
"It is YOU who have NO clue." She answered and rolled up one sleeve of
her
****rt and moved the skirt up as well to show him the scars she
carried.

"I know what HE is very capable of." She lashed back at the man she
had just
welcomed earlier into her home.

Lucien blanched at the scars and closed his eyes for a moment, to
clear his
mind that was suddenly flooded with all sorts of details and
information
that rushed forward. He took a deep breath and looked into her eyes.
He
did not want to even think of the torture and pain and utter horror
she must
have gone through at the hands of the Beast. The one who's name was
not
mentioned, for to do so gave him power. Studying her he was surprised
to
see that within her eyes, somehow, she had maintained a level of true
innocence. In many ways it was as if she had not seen the worse that
men
could do to another. As he continued to study her he also saw the
eyes of
deep old wisdom peering out at him.

"Lucien reached forward and covered her back up. "I am most grieved
that
you had to suffer at HIS hands." Lucien spoke softly and with sincere
emotion. "My Lady, I have been brought here to aid you in your search,
and
to protect you at all costs."

Kysen heard his words, and knew they were true. Her mentor also spoke
of
this and sent the calming sensations she needed to help her think
clearly.
She sat quietly for a moment and then nodded.

"I understand this, but you need to know, that I need to find him
within the
bounds that have been set before me." She answered softly. There was
something about him that scared her deeply. She knew he was sent by
Anpu;
or as he was better known as, Anubis, the God of the Dead. Kysen
trusted
the Council of Gods, and she knew her mentor, her beloved Ma'at would
not
steer her wrong. So, why did she fear him as she did, and yet every
once in
a while she felt completely safe?

"I will do my utmost to aid you my lady, but I ask that you keep me a
breasted at all times of your schedule, and that you do not leave the
sanctuary without me with you."

Kysen listened to his demands, and she even reasoned them sensible on
many
levels. IF this had been her a few years back she would have laughed
and
flaunted her expertise in the arts of becoming hidden in plain sight,
and
then gone out of her way to give him a merry chase.
She had learned much in the past 5 years. She had come to learn to
never
taunt the fates with what you deem as your superior intellect.

They studied each other for what seemed like an eternity. He watched
the
different emotions flick across her face, as if she was pondering his
request with all intentions of turning him down. He smiled softly as
he saw
the acceptance cross her features first before she looked back into
his
eyes.

"I will abide with your rules and regulations to the best of my
ability."
She offered sincerely.

Lucien nodded and smiled. "I thank thee my Lady." He intoned softly
in the
old and ancient tongue. "I offer my pardon and ask forgiveness for
having
startled you earlier."

"You have no need to ask for forgiveness." She answered and placed her
hand
on his arm.

"You were performing your duties as were needed." She answered with a
smile.

Lucien nodded and sat back and drew within himself to study this new
one he
now was responsible for. She was different than the ones before.
Stronger
in many ways, and yet fragile on the other. She would obviously take
a few
days to figure out and then he would know how to deal with her, and
her role
and best handle this new task he had been assigned.

The car quietly pulled up and stopped. Lucien hopped out of the car
and
went to the other side and helped her out. As her hand went into his
a jolt
of pure energy went through her and she felt her knees go weak. She
leaned
into him to steady herself.

Lucien looked down at her and nodded to her. She stood when she was
ready,
which was in an instant after the jolt had left her. She allowed him
to
escort her into the dwelling and she realized he was literally NOT
going to
leave her side.

Lucien escorted her inside, and the staff could tell by the vibes from
both
of them that things were not as they appeared. Tanys stepped forward
to
greet her mistress and friend and hoped to break the hold Lucien had
on her.

Lucien smiled and released Kysen and stepped back to allow them their
proper
greeting.
He also knew this was all new to them. They had not been prepared to
accept
one of his kind within their inner circle. But, he was here, and they
were
just going to have to learn to live with it.

If they did not, they would surely die because of the lack of it.

[TAG Michael - the invites have been sent to the others, you can bring
Kayn
into place for the night of the charity event.]

[SUMMARY]

Kysen finishes up her morning duties and heads out to Fionula's office
to
present her with a personal invitation to the charity ball and opening
season of the Opera. They chat for a bit and Fi agrees reluctantly to
attend the ball. Ky finds a few names and clues and makes her way to
begin
them when she is accosted by Lucien, the newest member of her team and
brought home. He discusses with her the im****tance of never being
without
him by her side. They come to a mutual agreement.

[Day 100]
[Early Morning]
[In the City of Triylar]

Storming from the main keep Jok was furious along the stairway someone
failed to move out of his way fast enough and found the eight foot
giants fist cru****ng into the side of his head. The body slammed back
against a wall then slumped down his head rolling to the side and a
tear
of blood rolled out of the corner of his mouth. Jok didn't even glance
back at the quiet whispers behind him. Several times now Leara had
blamed him, yet she didn't listen to his advice. She took her
frustration out on him when her prize catch slipped out of the fingers
of those she left in charge while she slipped away to prepare.

Omar had her ear now and this infuriated Jok to no end. He would do
away
with the little man but then Leara would somehow find a way to make
Jok
the next sacrifice to the dark masters. The dark riders were doing
well
though and for that he gladly took a lion share of credit. Lord
Gossimor
and his puny army were now like a bad case of roaches, at every turn
they had managed to cut off his supplies and limit his supplies to
that
he could reach in a day. Though the dragon ***** had maneuvered her
lizards to help protect the supply lines they still had enough time to
slip in and damage the goods and at times if they were lucky, they
even
managed to get the dragons to set fire to the supplies in their haste
to
destroy one of the masters.

The day of battle with Lord Gossimor had come, Jok wanted to charge
into
battle but Leara forbid it. Instead she kept to a steady volley of
arrows created by the brothers. The very thought of the uppity
brothers
made his nostrils flare. He knew that Jorhiem was only working Leara
and
was likely setting a trap but the woman would not listen. Then he
remembered the girl. What was her name? Oh that's right they called
her
Jade. Now there was a woman to match Jok's desire.

Everything was heating up in town, the masters had been re****ting that
an attack was imminent and would likely happen soon. It would be the
first time that the dark riders would show themselves and Jok hoped
for
a much closer battle, this shooting into a mess of people was for
coward's not real warriors. He had the resources now and he no longer
wielded a club but a well made double bladed axe.

As he walked he noticed people looking up wards toward the Gray Tower
that Leara had erected. Glancing up he noticed that the lady herself
was
up on the highest balcony looking over the city like a hawk eyeing a
great prize. Dressed in dark greens and a hooded cloak that hid her
face
the wind threatened to pull it off her, but the sheer will of the
woman
merely dared the wind. The sky was a clear summer day and the heat on
the ground made one sweat while the skies were layered in wind drifts
that kept one cool as was the case now. Leara presided over her
following. Some followed freely while others could only be seen as
mere
slaves and lived at the whim of the lady of the tower.

Leara watched the city, through her mind took little interest of the
people moving through the streets. Not far off in the distance she
could
see dragons flying, most likely spying on the city that now belongs to
her and the master. Some children being ushered into a work force
brought the painful memory of her dreams. A small female child had
come
to her, it didn't speak a word yet some how her mind was filled with
mixed visions as though her world was upside down. It was the master
how
then appeared, though surprised to see the child it didn't fear the
small one and with a rage as old as time it drove the girl away.

Stepping away from the balcony she descended the stairs. On each level
of the tower Great War machines had been assembled though the spears
were not for killing humans but for killing dragons. Though most would
not know of that until the time came. Not long ago she had a rag tag
team of warriors now she had trained warriors and fighting equipment
to
go along with it. She kept only those near that she felt would follow
her orders to their death but she also kept those like her new general
Omar near to remind herself there were others greedy and evil enough
to
try and wrestle her power away. Keeping Jok angry or jealous of the
general kept both on their toes and eyeing each other while she
proceeded with her plans. There were those that felt she was cruel or
unkind but it was unfounded. She knew her heart and knew that she only
did what she did to protect her people from the dragons who cared only
for their own glory.

As she walked the sunlight was replaced by torches few were allowed
down
here, and those that built the place were given as sacrifices to the
masters. Deep underground she came out into a large cavern. The people
of Triylar never realized that they lived above such a complex system
of
tunnels. They were content in their stone homes depending on the
dragon
riders to drive the wraiths away. Yet, here in the caverns was a great
treasure that the masters now allowed her to see. Though, this was but
one of many caverns this one held three dark queens and over a dozen
eggs each. In the wild the new born would have fought each other for
survival but they were all needed now for the greater plan in driving
all dragons out of the lands.

The queens were nearly twice the size of the masters reaching sizes of
eighty feet from tail tip to nose. Their ****mmering colors are
metallic
green to steal black. Her master had told her once, that there could
only be one queen and if two queens were present they would fight to
the
death, sometimes in so doing they would lose both queens. But now that
he is king of the shadow world in his kindness queens were no longer
allowed to fight. Their job was to produce warriors now something they
seemed to take great pride in.

But on this day she came at the bidding of her master whom now dwelled
in the cave of shadows. Here she and Jok brought sacrifices and here
she
came to commune with his great wisdom. She knew not why this time.
Leara
could not let fear enter her heart and mind. The dark one believed
that
if one was to do so it would mean only that the person had grown
useless
to him and he would devour that person. In image that was easy for her
to grasp.

Standing before the great archway of darkness flanked by a roll of
black
candles, Leara knelt down then bowed forward to pay respect to the
master. Some would call the darkness evil but Leara knew better. The
darkness is the place all are born and the lack of color is pure. Not
like those that believe in white light which only means oblivion.

Day 69
Evening

Sharees and Angel finished up dinner, and as on the previous night,
Sharees readied herself to go and visit with Lexi, who was still
recovering from the beating he'd received in Triylar.

Sharees thought of taking Angel over to see S'than, since he was now
home, but Chamelle informed her that there was a visiting dragon on
his
ledge. Sharees saw that it was Radella, so Evadne must be visiting.
Sharees smiled. They'd make a cute couple, even if neither of them
realized it yet.

As she looked at Angel and wondered what she should do, she suddenly
thought of Akety. "Would you like to go visit with Akety for a bit,
while I check on Lexi?" Sharees asked.

Angel smiled and nodded, as if she were expecting Sharees to ask just
that question.

Checking quickly with Ishtar, Chamelle told Sharees that Akety was
indeed at home and alone, and wouldn't mind Angel coming for a visit.
So, after stopping off at Akety's apartment and leaving Angel there,
Sharees headed to the medical center to check up on Lexi.

---
Late Evening

[SNIP]
Then in a sudden rush of emotion the brunette blurted out, "I hate
this!
those creatures they are so evil and twisted! I just wish there was
some
way we could through their venom back at them!"

Lexi gazed at his hands, his wrists were bruised and rubbed raw, but
the
cuffs were gone. When had they been removed. Hazy images floated
through
his mind as he tried to remember with Rayn's words striking a chord in
his mind. Slowly he lifted his head and a huge grin spread across the
horribly bruised face. "You are beautiful Rayn, and I could kiss you
right now!"

Rayn's eyes widened in surprise as Lexi's good arm reached out and
pulled her too him into a sweet kiss despite the sharp 'ouch' that
erupted from him from his fat lip. Releasing her he slid off the bed
to
his feet. Taking a deep breath he checked the bandages surrounding his
tender ribs. "Sis, I think you need to tighten these a bit." He'd had
more then a few cracked ribs over the years and Pandora rolled her
eyes
with a sigh seeing the determined look on his face.

"Lexi, you just woke up, you need to rest!"

"Fix it Sis!"

"What do you think you're doing?" Sharees asked.

Lexi's eyes grew cold as they moved to take in the dark-haired woman.
"I
need to see T'rell and Jason right now! We've got a serious problem!"
[END SNIP]

Sharees inhaled sharply and crossed her arms over her chest. She
glared
at the big man, not backing down an inch as she said, "Yes, WE have a
serious problem, and your going out with broken ribs isn't going to
solve it!" She let her anger at Lexi's kissing Rayne right in front
of
her bubble over to his desire to further harm himself in his macho
arrogance.

"I NEED to see T'rell and Jason!" Lexi stepped forward, staring down
at
Sharees.

"You NEED to heal. What ever you have to say to T'rell -- or Jason --
you can tell to Me. I AM the Wing-SECOND after all!" Sharees felt
her
cheeks flaming, knowing that some people still thought she'd only
gotten
that position by sleeping with T'rell and she wasn't sure that Lexi
wasn't one of them.

Lexi's eyes narrowed, "You don't need to remind me how *close* you are
to Jason and T'rell. But I won't hold that against them."

Sharees swallowed hard before snapping, "Fine, go and talk to them,
yourself. Foolish of me concern myself with your welfare!" Then she
spun on her heels and fled the room.

"Lexi!" Pandora's eyes followed after Sharees, "That was... cruel!
She's been so worried about you!"

Puss glared at Lexi and muttered, "I'll go after her," and she hurried
out.

"I don't have time for these games, Panda. We have work to do.
Rayne's
idea was brilliant."

"I don't understand...?" Rayne frowned.

"Perhaps not venom, but poison! But I need to talk to T'rell and Jason
first." He inhaled sharply as Pandora tightened the bandages about
his
chest.

"Poison..." Pandora nodded and she and Rayn watched Lexi leave.

---
"Sharees! Sharees!" The small blonde called as she tried to catch up
with the Wingsecond.

Sharees slowed down at the sound of Puss's voice, though she didn't
know
if she really wanted to talk to her or anyone at the moment.

"He's full o'... poop, he is! An' y'all know it, too. Hon, I know he's
hurtin' but that don't make it right at all," Puss said
sympathetically.
"He's all mixed up inside, but, ah'm sure o' this, he loves you."

Sharees snorted, "He has a strange way of showing it."

"No! Really. He's crazy about ya. You shoulda seen 'im when you
were
taken. He was just about crazy tryin' to find ya!"

Sharees paused, "That's what Pandora said, too. But... I've lost him
Puss. You hear how he... what he...."

"Now doncha go believin' that fer a moment!" Puss interjected. "If ya
want him back, yer goin'ta have to work a bit."

Sharees's eyes had lit with hope with Puss's insistence. "Work? I'm
not
sure that I can." Sharees's face fell as she tried to imagine how she
could win Lexi's trust back. It seemed a daunting task.

Puss chuckled, "Nah, Hon, you have all the right equipment. Just need
to use it, is all."

"Use it?" Sharees stared at the buxom blonde rider. "How?"

"I'm sure you'll think o' somethin'," Puss chuckled. "Just need to
keep your eyes open for op****tunities!"

[TAG: Tree, if you wish.]

---
Sharees waited a few moments before she knocked on Akety's door again.
Finally the door squeaked open and Akety stood there rubbing her eyes.

"Oh! I'm sorry, Sharees... seems I drifted off to sleep...." Akety
apologized. "Come on in. How's Lexi?"

Sharees stepped inside and smiled as she saw Angel curled up on the
couch, sound asleep.

"Lexi came around..."

"He's awake?" Akety sounded relieved and then she looked at Sharees,
"You don't seem too happy about it."

"Oh, I'm very glad that he's awake, but... he's still Lexi. Stubborn
as
ever. Hopped right out of bed, ready to battle the wyverns."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Akety said softly. She looked over at Angel where
she
slept. "Odd..."

"What is?" Sharees asked.

"Nothing, really," Akety frowned. "It's just that, every night since
those... things... have been around...."

"Your nightmares?" Sharees prodded gently.

"Yes, even with the dragons helping I still feel them, pressing in on
me," Akety shuddered at the memories. "It's so terrible that I hate
falling asleep. But tonight...."

"You must have been very tired," Sharees sympathized. "All those
night
patrols catching up with you."

"No, it wasn't that. I drifted off to sleep without even knowing I
had!
It was so peaceful, tonight."

Day 100
Early Morning

As with many mornings, Sharees had woken early to begin to plan her
day.
She had just started to make a list of things that needed to be
accomplished when Angel ran up to her and threw her arms around her.

"Angel? Is something wrong?"

Angel nodded and pressed closer to Sharees for comfort.

"A bad dream?" Sharees asked, receiving another nod in return.
Seeing
a chance for a breakthrough Sharees gently asked, "Was it about... the
farm? Your family?"

Angel shook her head, no. She raised her eyes and stared deeply into
Sharees's eyes as if willing her to understand, and for a split second
Sharees felt a coldness wash over her, as if a shadow had passed
across
the sun, and then it was gone. It had been so swift that Sharees
couldn't even have been sure it was real but Chamelle had also sensed
the darkness and she asked Sharees if Angel were all right, which made
Sharees realize it was real. She found herself asking, "Was it about
the wyverns?"

Angel frowned, neither nodding nor shaking her head. She looked
pensive, instead. She held up one finger and then spread her hands
wide. She didn't know how to show Sharees about the woman that she'd
seen, too.

"One wyvern. One big wyvern." Sharees stated and Angel nodded. "Is
it
nearby?"

Angel shook her head and shrugged. She touched her finger to her head
and then pantomimed sleeping.

"Of course, it was in a dream," Sharees chuckled. "Well, Angel,
don't
worry, that dream wyvern can't hurt you. Now, get ready to go to Miss
April's. I've a busy day and we have to get going."

---
Training had just started and Sharees was explaining some maneuvers to
a
group of less experienced riders when the call went out among the
dragons that Galendriel was getting ready to lay her clutch.

Knowing that the riders would want to go see, Sharees called for a
break
in the training. She and the other riders hurried to the sands to
watch
the laying, catching up with the crowd that was already growing.

Sharees smiled at Rayn as the young healer tried to push her way
through
the crowd. Knowing that the healer might be needed by the queen,
Sharees moved in front of her and called loudly and with a commanding
tone for everyone to move out of the way and let the healer through.
The crowd broke before them, leaving a clear access to the sands.

Sharees watched as Rayn moved out onto the sands and stood near to the
queenrider. Thea looked as cool as ever, only her hands twisting a
handkerchief betrayed her true emotional state.

Lexi was not too far away, looking every bit the proud 'Father'.
Sharees swallowed hard, seeing him there. Their eyes met for one
brief
moment. Doing her best to pretend to ignore him, Sharees put on a
smile
and joined T'rell, Jason and Sybil to watch the laying.

"Wonder if it is going to be a large clutch? The queen seems quite...
round," Sybil commented.

"I hope it is, we could use all the new riders we can get," T'rell
replied.

"And it's rather convenient having all these refugees here," Jason
chuckled.

Sharees frowned, "Why is that?"

"Well, it is convenient that the searchlings came to us rather than us
having to go out looking for them."

The wingleaders laughed and nodded. Sharees smiled, as well, having
helped to settle many of the would-be riders into the barracks. She
wasn't sure if all of them really wanted to be dragonriders or were
just
happy to have real beds to sleep on rather than many of the other
refugees who had to make do with whatever floor space they could find.

[TAG: Eddie... so, how's the laying going?]

Summary:
Day 69
Late Evening
Leaving Angel with Akety, Sharees goes to see how Lexi is doing. When
Lexi awakens and insists on seeing Jason and T'rell, Sharees gives him
a
piece of her mind, but his biting remarks hurt her and she flees.
Puss
follows her and gives her some pointers on winning Lexi back.

When Sharees picks Angel up from Akety, she finds Akety and Angel have
fallen asleep. Akety comments that it was the best sleep she's had
since the appearance of the wyverns.

Day 100
Early Morning
Angel awakens from a nightmare with a woman and a big wyvern. She is
able to communicate to Sharees about the wyvern, but Sharees thinks it
is only a dream.

During wing training, the dragons pass the word that Galendriel is
laying her eggs. Sharees dismisses her class and goes to see the
laying. She helps Rayn to get through the crowd to the sands.
Catching
a glimpse of Lexi, Sharees pointedly ignores him and joins T'rell,
Jason
and Sybil to watch the laying.
