Subject: [DL-D] - Moving On

Day 70
Early Morning
Weya's Room

Weya had awakened to the hurried sounds of those rushing to an
emergency.
She lay there for a time and realizing she was up and there was
nothing she
could do to force herself back to sleep.

She rose and gingerly dressed and straightened the only home she had
known
since she had arrived over 3 moons ago. Weya knew it was time for her
to
move on, and make her own way. From the few incidents she had heard
about
from what little talk she heard anymore she knew the attacks were
continuing
and it appeared that the fighters were fighting a losing battle.

Weya was not about to even bring this issue up with Dante. He was
tired,
constantly spending every waking moment he could with her. She knew
that
something had changed between him and his sister, and again she knew
it was
futile to speak of it.

She had noticed that the staff that usually helped her, and checked on
her
had ceased, and her only other visitors were either Adams or his
sometimes
hulking shadow Palace. They seemed to be the only ones who did not
change
when near her. She chuckled at the new thought that came to her,
which was
that the only ones supportive of her were in fact those who were
strangers
and outsiders as well.

Those within the Warren had circled together to grow stronger. The
battle
that kept coming to them appeared to be one of great duration. Weya
understood why the change had occurred, and even why she was now
considered
a possible threat.

These were reasons enough to just pack up and slip out and head back
out
into the world she knew and understood. She would be loathed to leave
this
place, for she had made a few friends, and she had grown use to the
sounds
of others around her. She pushed the thoughts of Dante down deep. She
could
not make a sound decision if she kept him too close to the surface of
her
consciousness, and allowed her heart voice.

She was tired of being in a closed room, sitting around doing nothing
of
importance. She had enjoyed the challenge of learning the meanings
behind
the funny shapes and symbols. She never did voice her opinion that
learning
and knowing such things were useless in her line of work and
lifestyle. She
had not touch her beloved bow in over 3 moons, and she found she
missed the
feel of her furs and leather beneath her fingers. The feel of the
polished
wood ready to be created into what ever the artisan desired.

With her mind suddenly awakened of those things that she did miss she
knew
it was time. She was also not unaware of her changed physical
ability, and
knew that it was time to get her-self back into shape. If she was
lucky,
she might be able to find odd tasks and to work herself back into
where she
had been before the attack.

With Dante not here with her when she awoke, she knew he had slipped
out
sometime during the night and was probably helping out with taking on
yet
another extra patrol to make sure that they were not caught short
handed.

She worried about him, and again recognized that stubborn set of his
jaw
when he had made his mind up. Weya pondered the silent clues left
behind and
knew somehow; she was the reason behind the tension with his sister.
Weya
reflected on the soft tender words and promises between them. She
would miss
him terribly and already her heart cried out in protest of her sudden
decision. She could not be a burden to him any longer. She closed
her eyes
to the burning of the tears and pictured him in one of her many
favorite
poses. She smiled and knew she would have many sweet memories to keep
her
going.

She packed up what she needed and wondered where the rest of her packs
were?
She had never thought of them before, and she figured she had lost
them to
those creatures. Well, she had started out alone and with nothing
before,
this time was no different. She looked around the room and sighed.

She was gong to miss this place, and stranger still many of the
people. As
she made one last inspection of the room she turned to face 2 figures
standing in the doorway watching her.

"Weya." Adams replied softly in surprise. He had not had the chance
to
speak to her about what had been decided, but somehow she had found
out. To
see her dressed, ready to leave with an air of acceptance and
resignation on
her facial features startled him. How did she know?

"I see you heard, I was hoping to be the one to tell you." He spoke up
stepping into the room, so the person behind could step in as well.
Weya
studied the young woman and vaguely remembered her face from the early
part
of her arrival here.

Weya chuckled softly at Adams' words and thought in a funny way he
sounded
so sad that he had not been able to tell her it was time for her to
leave.

"I have talked ta no one." She answered softly. "Tis time for me ta
find my
own way, I have taken up your space and time for too long now." She
replied
simply.

Adams stood and studied her with shock and surprise on his face. He
did not
know what he missed, but it appeared as though she was leaving, and
had they
not stopped in when they did, she would have slipped out and
disappeared.
She would have just vanished leaving no sign that she had even been
within
their midst.

"Weya, this is Sharees." Adams replied in response to her words. "She
has
come to escort you to the Searching Barracks." He added quickly hoping
this
would make sense to her.

Weya stood and studied the dark-haired woman. She remembered her with
an
older blonde man. She remembered her from HIS room.

"Searchin barracks?" Weya asked softly in her deep husky tones.

"Yes." Sharees spoke up. "You have Dragon Affinity, and with the
hatching
of the Queen's Clutch soon, you have a chance to be bonded with a
dragon."
She explained simply.

"Aye, I remember." Weya answered and looked back to Adams, who seemed
to be
rather upset about something. She waited for the explanation.

Sharees smiled and relaxed her stance. "The Barracks are where all
potential candidates await to be chosen." She replied and studied the
young
woman before her. She had heard of her, and both S'than and Jason
seemed to
have no problem with her. She for one knew what it was like to have
stories
and tales spoken that did not carry the hint of truth.

"I am here to bring you to your new home." Sharees said sensing she
seemed
lost and unsure of her place. "You will learn the routine of the
warren,
and learn things about dragons and the bonding, and even a job for
you, to
help out while you are waiting."

Weya's interest piqued at the mention of jobs. "I am a hunter." Weya
volunteered.

"Well, let's talk about it while we walk to the barracks, you can see
them
for your self." Sharees walked to her and took one of her packs, and
smiled
and ushered Weya from the room.

Once Sharees figured out which areas Weya was proficient in, they
happily
chatted like old friends and soon they were standing in front of the
barracks.
Weya took a deep breathe and stepped in behind Sharees and found
herself in
a large room that was divided by partitions that gave everyone space
and
some privacy.

Weya gasped as she looked and there stood Dante grinning from ear to
ear.
In one corner nearest a window were her packs and some of her personal
belongings that she always carried with her. The little nook had been
set
up almost like their cave.

"Dante?" she whispered in a tone of awe. Sharees stepped back and
Weya
moved slowly and closer to where Dante stood.

Dante beamed with pride as he saw her astonishment and was glad his
surprise
was being well received. "Welcome to your new home." He spoke and
waved his
arms to show her the little niche he had set up just for her.

Weya laughed and covered her mouth and felt the tears well up and
threaten
to spill over. She was utterly speechless and just looked and soft
gasps of
astonishment came forth and her hand kept flying to cover her mouth in
unbelief.

"You?' she uttered. "That is why?" "This mornin?" "You said
nothin!" She
was totally taken back by such.it was so.Weya struggled to find the
words
both in her head and for her mouth.

"You don't mind?" he asked taking a step closer. He had never seen
her so
astonished or at a loss of words and he beamed. "It will be just until
you
get your dragon, then you.we can." his words trailed off.

"Oh Dante!' she exclaimed and hugged him. Dante grinned and held her
tightly. Yes things were going to be all right he thought. He held
her
longer than perhaps he needed to, but to see her out of that place,
beginning her new life, here, with him, he just knew, somehow,
everything
was going to be ok.

Day 100

Early Morning
Practice Field

Weya had been on the practice field since before the grey light of
dawn
blushed rosy and the morning birds began their welcoming song. Weya
was
practicing her skills with her bow. As she continued to strike the
target
dead center with each and every pull she felt her strength and
accuracy
improve. She pondered on the past days she has spent in her new
place. It
had been a little over a complete cycle of the moon. Many things had
happened, and Weya found she could mull over all she witnessed while
she was
either working her skins or perfecting her skills. This was the
favorite
time of the day she enjoyed the best. She had once enjoyed the night,
the
moon in its cycles, and the wolf song. Now she was not allowed out
after
dark, and she was glad that Dante had procured her the niche with the
small
round window so she could see the moon during part of her path through
the
night.

Dante was on patrol and he would soon be back and she would go and
greet him
and they would share a meal together and he would slip up to his
quarters
and sleep for a time and Weya would keep busy slowly working on her
craft.
Later, after he woke they would spend some time with the growing pups
and
enjoy their antics. Weya enjoyed these special times with Dante, and
sometimes Akety came over too. Tensions had lessened since they were
no
longer partners on patrol.

Weya was also a watcher of others. This was something she had done
all her
life and nothing went on in the warren she was not aware of. Not that
she
understood all of what she witnessed, but she was very aware of the
large
huge dark-haired man who most kept out of his way, and all the girls
seemed
to giggle and drool over.

He fascinated her. If he had been in the wild he would have
definitely been
an alpha male. Head of the pack. Which why he seemed to bluster
about
daring anyone to challenge his authority. He was also very secretive,
and
she knew he was working on trying to find a way to defeat their new
enemy.
She had also heard the whispers and parts of conversations. She had
pieced
together many facts and was sure there was more to things than the
tales of
the others. Yes, interesting to watch.

Weya watched from a distance the practice of the riders, and even
weapon
practice was fun to watch. She kept her distance, and if anyone ever
saw
her she was busy with tanning and occasionally woodworking. Weya also
was a
very good Fletcher and her arrows were highly prized in the towns.
Although
now that particular revenue seemed to have dried up. Nevertheless Weya
always needed arrows. She had perfected her aim again, and now it was
time
for her to begin to take to the woods and begin to learn to hunt
again.

With Sharees help she was able to againbegin working on her crafts and
wares. Sharees was very impressed with Weya's pelts and the quality
of
them. Soon both had enough work to keep them busy and enjoying each
other's
company, and Weya had taken to the little girl Angel and given her a
little
bead working kit so she could keep busy while the 2 girls sat,
chatted,
sewed and worked the leathers.

With the last set of arrows sent forth to the targets before her she
walked
with her new gait which was slower and had a slight limp. As she
walked
across the field she wondered again IF she would ever regain all that
she
had lost. The healers said there was nothing left for her to work
through,
and since she could have lost her leg, she was lucky she had one.
Luckier
that she could walk, and to have a slight limp well, she had nothing
to
complain about.

She moved with a gracefulness that seemed fluid to most. Weya could
feel
the stiffness and how her leg did not always cooperate. She reached
the
targets and pulled her practice arrows and returned them to their
proper
place. She glanced up at the sky and noticed that if she was to meet
Dante
on time, she needed to leave.

Weya cleaned up any trace of her being here, she still was not sure
how the
others felt about her, and she did not wish to alert anyone to her
presence.
She also had learned it was best to stay quiet and go about your
business
in the background and slip in and out of others awareness.

Yes, she had perfected the art of hiding in plain sight. She began
her long
trek back to the Green to greet and meet up with Dante. He seemed to
really
like her waiting for him and his smile when their eyes met made her
smile as
well.

Unbeknownst to Weya, there were several pairs of eyes that watched
her. They
noted her schedule; to whom she spoke, where she was at any given
time.
They watched her regain her prowess with the bow. They watched her
struggle
and work through the obstacle course that the rest of the wing used to
help
train. They watched her as she watched the others, and were aware of
the
knowledge she gleaned and carried within.

The eyes followed her back to the Green and although she was swallowed
up
for a time within the large swelling crowd of people and dragons she
was not
lost to them.

Just then she heard Dante's shouts and she turned towards them and
watched
as he moved through the people in a frantic effort to get to her.

"Mornin!" she called as he got closer and smiled at his smile and the
radiance that flashed across his features.

"Weya!" he called to her and reached her in the next breath and hugged
her
exuberantly. "Hurry! The Eggs!" he exclaimed.

"The Eggs?" she asked as he grabbed her hand and began to lead her
through
the throng.

"Yes!" he called back to her "Hurry, I don't want you to miss this!"

Moments later they stood watching the beauty of the scene before them.
Weya
was pressed up against Dante and his arm was draped over her shoulder.
 She
reflected that this scene was in some ways like the one she had
witnessed
that night in Dante's apartment when in the silence of the night
Galowyne
brought forth the life she had carried within. The beauty of that
moment as
Dante had knelt by her side and the moon light filtering in bathing
them in
a silvery light. Weya knew she has been witness to a blessed event.

Now she again was gifted with witnessing this event. With each egg
that
arrived the crowd ooohed and ahhhed as the Dragonhealer showed the
crowd and
then gently laid each egg on the warmed sand.

<Time: During the meeting>

"Foreseeing that he might have found a method to outwit the ship's
internal
scanners I have had my personnel have completed a complete physical
search
of engineering spaces and all voids and cargo spaces. It is possible
he is
hiding in an unused cabin, but highly unlikely."

"His medical profile does not indicate any suicidal tendencies, but it
is
possible he suffered some form of depression which has escaped notice.
 I
would suggest all departments conduct a physical search of all spaces;
the
ingenuity of humanoids set on self-destructive actions is impressive.
Failing to locate a corpse, I can only deduct that Crewman Waverly did
indeed depart the ship in an illegal fashion and has no intent to
return to
duty."

<End Snip>

?oI concur.? Avi said, looking at her. Akora had a slightly
lighter tone
about her, since they returned to the ship. Of course, then again, so
did
he. ?oI?Tve never met crewman Waverly, I?Tll have to see his file
once we?Tre
done here.? Avi finished up. ?oDoes anyone have anything else??

<NRPG ?" Anyone?  Anyone?  Buhler?  Buhler?>

****

<snip from Carys?Ts post ?oA Day of Many Firsts?>
?zWell, thank you for the compliment doctor, and of most everyone on
the ship
you?sd probably know second best.? He answered with a grin.

Miaren felt the blush to her toes, and hoped she could not get any
redder.
She wondered how long before she could meet someone and not glow?

?zSo, why don?st we see some of the additions you?sve made?? he
replied and
headed out the door. Miaren took a breath and followed him out the
door.

?zThis use to be my lab before I traded places.? He spoke up.
Miaren smiled
and nodded and begun their tour.
<end snip>

Avi looked around. The Med-Center changed from tenant. What had been
his
office was now a lab, and the reverse was true. Before him, the
doctor had
actually reconfigured the entire center from its original planned
layout.
Nothing quite like ?oquick-fab? designs, Avi always said.
Especially when he
was in SF Engineering Corps.

?oAnd this,? she pointed to the panel, ?ois our new status
board.? Quite
proud, she started talking about some of the patients. ?o...his
particular
problem was a troubling case of IBS, I?Tm told.?

?oIBS?? Avi looked at her, curiously. He thought that had been
cured eons
ago.

?oYes, I?Tm told that means ?~irrational bowel syndrome.?T?

?oIrrational bowel syndrome??

?oYes, apparently, when this particular crewmember got it, he became
quite
irrational.?

?oI?Td imagine he would be!? Avi laughed, as David Stern went
walking by. He
was a researcher working on board with a grant in the psychology of
hobbies
amongst different crewmen. David, while an incredibly strange fellow,
was
also quite perceptive into the quirks of human behavior. In
particular,
he?Td noticed Avi?Ts habit of repeating things that people said
before him
when he was dubious of what they?Td said. He also noticed
Montana?Ts habit of
spouting obscure Starfleet regulations when she felt herself getting
cornered. Of course, he also told Avi that he needed to eat better,
more
salads, and the like. Something Avi definitely didn?Tt enjoy.
Chicken, now
there was something he could eat any day that ended in Y. That he was
fine
with.

?oAnd over here is the new surgery area.? Miaren brought him to
the newest
area in the Medical Center. ?oWe reconfigured some of the empty,
neighboring
rooms so we could have more room.? She said, as they walked past
the
bio-med tables. ?oThis is where I?Tm experimenting...? Avi?Ts
eyes opened
wide as day when she started that sentence, ?o...with my research
techniques.
I never thought I?Td have the chance, but I like that there are a few
patients with some similar circumstances to what I was working on.?

<Carys? Anything else?>
