"I will download this file into the main computer and note on it that
you
have complied with the order and all your files are current." Miaren
glanced at her again, and mused at how serious her countenance was.
"I thank thee for taking care of this so quickly, and taking time from
your
busy schedule."
"Not at all, Doctor." A'kora responded. "I am happy to comply, as
the
human phrasing goes. I fully understand that my phisology presents
some
unique problems for the medical staff."
"I'm a wee bit embarrassed to say this Lt. Commander, but being new to
this,
how does one go about.uh ending this conference?" Miaren asked.
"By informing me that you are satisfied with my current records."
A'kora
responded, the corner of her mouth lifting slightly. "Please Doctor,
I know
that many Vulcans take an exacting attitude where protocol is
concerned but
I have been among humans long enough to know it is not a requirement
in
every situation."
"I am certain you have examinations of a more lenghty duration to
perform
before you day comes to an end. I will take up no more of your time."
A'
Kora nodded drew herself sharply at attention and saluted Miaren.
"I will see you at the Captain's Chili festival." A'kora said.
Miaren responded and held her salute while A'Kora snapped around and
left.

BD 11 : 1500
Holodeck Two
A stiff breeze blew over the ancient battlements, stirring the ragged
strips of cloth that once had been proud flags. Twin red suns were
declining, casting blood red shadows in staggered steps across the
pale marble flagstones. A'kora stepped over the bloodied corpses,
spinning the lirash cautiously.
The polearm was quite versitle; with a bladed end that was more of a
point than the wide blade of the lirpa which was the Vulcan equivilant
of this Romulan weapon. Where the vulcan weapon was designed for
chopping and slashing, the Romulan version was more for thrusting,
with a hooked flange suitable for tripping an opponent while severing
important tendons or arteries. The other end of the shaft had a
large, blunted, end piece which was used for smashing bones. Again,
the weapons differed some, the Vulcan version being heavier to counter
balance the larger blade, the Romulan version being greatly reduced in
size, but studded with rows of corrogated teeth. The Vulcan Lirpa was
a barbaric weapon, a reminder of their past struggles with passion.
The Romulan Lirash was a refinement, an improved tool from a culture
of violence.
A syllabant scream of rage heralded the attack of two Gorn warriors.
They scrambled over the battlements, coming as a pair at A'kora with
huge, serrated, blades. Not waiting their charge, A'kora sprinted,
using the blunt end of the lirash as an assist, she vaulted over the
reptillian attackers, spinning but not quite avoiding both blades.
She landed, spinning the lirash and thrusting it one handed through
the throat of the one that had managed to score her arm.
There was no blood; A'kora was not going to override the safety
features of the holodeck. But nothing prevented her from setting the
holo-weapons of her opponents from generating a small nero-shock that
numbed an area which was struck and simulated wounds enough for
disabling manuvers to register in a nearly appropiate fashion.
The armored curiass of the fallen Gorn caught on the hooked blade at
the base of the lirash's bladed head, ripping the weapon from her
grasp. A'kora could have tried to free it, but it would have dragged
her into the path of the other Gorn, who turned swiftly and was
already charging. A'kora back pedaled, throwing a tri-bladed kailune
at him. The kailune was too large to be a shuriken, which was the
closest earthly equivalnet. It spun with a sharp whirr, small grooves
cut into the blades designed to make the sound, causing an emotional
response in it's targets.
The kailune missed, but did provide the needed breathing space for
A'kora to get her other weapon free as the Gorn side stepped the
thrown blade. The vrelnec was a short bladed weapon, a heavy curved
tip suited to slashing and a large bell guard around the haft to
protect the weilder's hand when used to strike. The Gorn used his
full weight in a two handed smash, coming down directly at A'kora's
head. She deflected the jagged stone and wood weapon, though it
nearly numbed her hand with it's force. With a wrenching twist,
A'kora caught their weapons in a bind, spinning into him, close enough
to be embraced.
A'kora lashed back with her head, smashing into the Gorn's stubby
face. Something crunched with a satisfying "crackle" sound and A'kora
smiled, then she released her weapon. The Gorn staggered, nearly
dropping his own weapon as he flailed for balance. A'kora spun in
place, landing blows with her elbow, knee and then striking with her
fist into the Gorn's torso, breaking bones and sendinding devestating
shock waves that would disrupt and rupture internal organs. At least,
it would have if the Gorn's body did not have a thick layer of
leathery hide that gave it body armor.
The Gorn was staggered, dropping his weapon, but he was far from
unarmed. Having failed in her tactic, A'kora was short work for the
powerful claws and the blare of a buzzer indicated the end of her
training session while the computer voice softly intoned. "Subject
A'kora has been registred as a kill. Simulation is at end. Would you
like to initiate a new program?"
"Negative." A'kora gasped. "Simulation end."
The air buzzed faintly as the battlements of a Romulan outpost
vanished and were replaced with the bare walls of the holodeck.
A'kora cautiously worked her right arm, feeling the tingle of nerves
reawakening from the simulated wounding. A'kora wondered if she would
have fared better had she used Klingon simulations instead of Gorns.
Considering the capabilities of the bat'leth and daqtagh against the
vrelnec and kailune, A'kora limped towards her quarters and a shower.

Subject: [USS-CAPRICORN] - Checking out the Chili
BD11
1708
A'kora arrived late to the chili fest. She moved stiffly, still
aching
somewhat from her workout despite an hour of meditation in the sauna.
She
was getting older, over sixty, and while that wasn't even "middle
aged" by
the standards of her race, A'kora was no longer young. She was
getting
slower.
Chili, a truly human food. Not so much in it's design, it was little
more
than a thick stew, but humans had a need to push every limit. Chili
had
many recipes, each hotter than the last, and it was a symbol of status
to
create the most painful concoction and be able to devour it without
complaint, despite the gastrointestinal distress caused in digestion.
By
the flushed expressions of most of the crew and the large number of
drinks
being consumed, A'kora could tell that the Captain's contribution to
traditional human cuisine was of exceptional nature.
She also took note that the Captain had provided for all
sensibilities; he
had made several versions of his chili, some hotter than others and
some
without meat. Correctly, all chili is without meat, chili con carne
would
be the proper term for chili with meat. A'kora sampled some of the
"vegetarian" style and observed her fellow officers as they mingled.
OOC
No direct tags, just finally arriving. Thought I should put in an
appearance before the chili fest ended.

Subject: [DL-W] Infinity
[Day 7 Evening]
Jilly looked helplessly at Gob, and then at the two new men. Pav'lo
and J'red both seemed upset, and J'red looked an awful lot like Ol'
Ned on the farm right before he blew his top and started yelling at
his son Warren. She hoped he wasn't going to blow his top at her.
Looking at Gob again as the boy was explaining things to the two men,
she was tempted to whack him in the head a few more times for getting
her into this mess.
"And just who gave you permission to go searching?" J'red's question
eased her a bit as she tried to understand exactly what they all
seemed to be talking about. She thought that at least they were mad
at the boy and not at her for this booboo.
"No one, did it all on my own." Gob looked just as proud as a red
roostercock. "See for yourself she has dragon affinity"
<snip>
"That remains to be seen Gob, you haven't even been tested yet."
Pav'lo added.
"The boy is however correct," a voice spoke up behind everyone. A
crowed having formed up parted to made room for Har'son, as the man
looked Jilly over. "She most definitely has Affinity a lesser
Searcher might have missed the signs, but Gob did a good job in
seeing them."
<end snip>
Jilly felt the growing crowd all turn to look at her, and suddenly
she wasn't so sure that they were going to blame Gob for this mess
after all. "Er.um.sirs. I don't know what this 'infinity' thing is,
but I assure you I didn't take anything from Gob or from you."
Inspired suddenly, she brightened a bit. "If you take me back to the
market though, maybe me and my kin from the farm can help you look
for it. But I promise I didn't take your 'infinity'.
Respectfully submitted by
Jilly
aka Bianca Payne
Summary:
Day 7 evening: Jilly is lost and confused about what's happened and
thinks that Pav'lo and J'red are accusing her of taking something
called 'infinity' from them.

[Science Office]
After quickly putting his last thoughts into the data pad Ensign
Conner
gulped down the last of his protein drink. He found that though he
loved
a good meal his time to sit and eat lately had grown less and less. So
for now he resigned himself to quick drinks of vitamins and protein.
"Might as well just take a stem shot," Moot said in observation. The
Vulcan had come to remind Sajin of his meeting knowing all too well
how
the Science officer could get so easily distracted. For such a
calculating mind it was illogical in the way the human would use it.
"Thanks Moot, but I'm not up to total lack of taste at least this has
strawberry flavor." Sajin grinned. "Well I guess I can't hold this off
any longer so I better get to the briefing room. You've got those
reports I asked for?"
The Vulcan extended a couple file chips and stepped out of the Science
officers' path. "I'll have the staff standing by when you complete the
briefing. The Captain will want the data as soon as possible."
"Thanks Moot I don't know what I would do with out you," sensing that
Moot might try to answer that Sajin quickly cut him off, "For that
matter the entire staff, I should meet you all shortly." With that
done
he was off to the briefing.
[Briefing Room]
Sajin breathed a sigh of relief to find he was neither first nor last.
He felt a bit out of place among the other officers, but then he had
always been younger then the other people around him. After the
holodeck
experience, a certain feeling of guilt nagged at the back of his mind.
The Ensign listened to the other officers, several times he wanted to
speak up on this subject or that but instead he made notes of things
to
check on later. It was good that Ensign Coltrane had the computers
working so well and he couldn't help but wonder if that had anything
to
do with Dr. Bell and the Galahad program.
[Snip]
Mostly scientists have manned the starbase for the last decade or so.
The population of the base ranges approximately 60-80 at any given
time,
which includes both the civilians and Starfleet personnel. Sajin, I
want
you to check the personnel roster and find out whom we'll be dealing
with, I'm sure it's changed since I was last there, and also bone up
on
the Iconian culture. It might come in handy. The Iconians abandoned
the
planet a couple hundred thousand years ago and their artifacts and
technology are highly prized, not that there's much left as far as I
know. The Iconian technology however, has been a bone of contention
since the Yamato was destroyed by it back in 2365."
[End Snip}
Sajin didn't need to do any research here; he had already looked into
who would be there. His minded wandered to his first year at the
academy
when Dr. Jennet Bristol a larger then life scientist that was known in
so many circles was his teacher in ancient histories and artifacts. It
was an elective that he just had to have. Dr. Bristol was a different
kind of teacher though and one the Ensign came to admire greatly. Her
first words, "Ok class the first thing I want you all to understand is
your grade at this point is failing. As a class you'll either finish
together or fail together" The shock of those first words nearly made
Sajin leap from his chair in fear. He had never failed a class in his
life a mere B would cause him to be sick for a week. But for a group
of
over achieving young men and woman it served her purpose well. It was
an amazing two weeks later when she announced to the class, "ok
thought
I should point out to you that all your grades have risen to a D."
Never
in Sajin's life did he get so excited at achieving a D. The whole
class
went out to the local pup to celebrate.
Dr. Jennet Bristol was an older woman no more then five feet in height
and likely just barely a hundred pounds. Everyday she would bring in
some old artifact, in which they had to determine where it came from
what it was used for and what the people might be like. The following
day she would reveal the truth of it. But she would also add one other
thing to her speech that would leave Sajin mystified. "These facts
I've
told you are according to scientist just like me. But we are neither
right nor wrong. The important thing is the letting your minds open to
the possibilities and to not force the item to be what you wish it to
be. You just may find that you and everyone else's conclusion could be
entirely false."
With a sudden realization it appeared the meeting was over. As the
other
officers rose he quickly jumped to his feet and followed them out. He
stopped only long enough to hand the captain the roster chip.
"You have this already?" Captain Brent asked a little surprised.
"Yea, Mook said it was likely the logical thing you would ask for,"
Sajin smile. "I have a few theories but I'll need more data before I
can
give you a reasonable answer to all this." With that the Science
officer
nodded and left the room with the other officers.

Subject: [DL-J] - Wishing upon a Star
Day 6
Late Evening
Beach
Mely walked along the beach and let the soft sounds of the waves lull
her
into a place she needed to be. She found that here, at this time of
the
day, when the stars sparkled and the breezes from the open water
caressed
her and stilled the darkness within.
Her heart ached to the degree that her entire body hurt. Breathing was
the
hardest. She did not know how her body continued. The dark hole she
found
herself in had no way out.
Her Warren Lady had sent her here to heal, to experience the lushness
of
this paradise to help spark the life within again.
How does one deal with the loss of one that you had never realized you
loved
and cared for? How does one deal with the knowledge that you had been
given
a special gift, and you had squandered your time? How do you put into
perspective the guilt that now consumes you?
Mely felt the warm tears flow down her cheeks and wondered, will I
ever cry
myself dry? Flashing back to that dreadful moment when she watched
him cut
down without a backward glance. The shocked look on his face as his
knees
buckled and he crumpled to the ground.
She felt her throat constrict and chest tighten as she could see in
her mind
as if she stood and watched it all happen to another. Holding him,
his head
in her lap, the blood pooling and seeping into the hot desert sand.
Mely sank to her knees and wrapped her arms around her and rocked
herself as
she sobbed with the soft tender moments that they had shared before
the
light in his eyes faded. Her name the last thought on his lips.
She could still feel him in her arms, warm, still and limp and how her
heart
had raged. How she had begged him to come back and not leave her.
How they
had to finally tear her away, to take his body and prepare him for his
final
journey.
Mely poured the anguish from her soul into the still night. No human
ear or
heart heard the cry. The sea listened and crooned her song to soothe
the
pain, to weave peace within the raging breast.
She did not know how long she howled her grief. Nor did she know how
long
she sat and rocked and got lost in the ebb and flow of the song from
the
sea.
Mely felt as though she was riding upon the gentle waves and gently
rocked.
Mely was pulled from her reverie by the sound of a soft chuckle, warm
and
gentle upon the wind. It was Keenan's! She looked up and bolted to
her
feet.
She looked around and tried to follow the sound as it drifted away
from her.
She just had to find the source! She found she was walking closer to
the
Warren. She looked around and saw no movement, no sounds; everyone
was
asleep.
"Perhaps only a dream, a wish." She mused to herself. She walked
along the
beach and soon found herself on the Green. It did not seem like it had
been
only a day or so since her entire world had been turned upside down.
Mely knew that she should try to go and attempt to sleep. Her mind
cried out
for the rest, to find a quiet peaceful place to slumber. Her heart
would
not be quiet. It spoke of remembrances and caused the memories to
dance
before her eyes and she could not find a way to turn them off.
It was amazing that reviewing one's choices, how many mistakes one
made. How
simple it all seems as one looked back, why did she not have such
clarity
before? How could she have been so blind? So caught up in the things
that
were not important. It was the little things that were important.
It was the kind word, a smile to another for no other reason, other
than to
share and pass it on. It was the turning a blind eye to silly things,
not
to be so harsh and demanding. It was so many little things that
happened in
a day that got lost in the bigger picture, and yet it was the little
things
that made that picture, painted and filled in the blank canvas.
She found a soft place to sit and curl her knees up and watch the
shimmering
moonlight dance across the water. She looked up into the sky and
marveled
at all the soft twinkling stars that dotted the sky and made pictures
in the
sky.
She got lost in finding the pictures she remembered being shown as a
child,
and then later taught after becoming a dragon-rider, so she would
always be
able to find her way home.
She found the wishing star and smiled, finding a tiny bit of lost
innocence
and magic. She felt a bit of hope fill her, like it did as a child.
She had
not felt that way in ever so long. She whispered the little poem she
had
forgotten until just a moment ago and then closed her eyes and let her
truest wish, the one that lay deep within her heart come forth.
NRPG - No tags, just some character development.
[SUMMARY]
Mely walks along the beach working through her grief of losing Keenan
and
ponders her memories, thoughts and finding the wishing star, makes a
wish.
