Past Midnight
Josie's Apartment
Josie rose after spending an hour or so restless, tossing and turning.
She
crossed the darkened room, and flipped the light on in the bathing
room.
She loved this old place.
It had been an old house at one time, and sometime in the turn of the
century been turned into private quarters, for the mistress, and other
members of the house. Josie knew that at one time her mother had
walked
these floors, before escaping into the quaint old quarter to live
their
bohemian life.
Josie loved the lion's claws on the tub, which was larger and wider
than the
standard ones in the modern places. She liked the feeling of being
raised
above the floor while soaking.
The night was sultry and Josie was damp with perspiration and she felt
hot
and sticky. She could feel the beginning of a soft cooler breeze and
she
longed to stand in the moonlight and let the air bathe her with its
coolness. To feel the soft gentle breeze kissing and caressing across
her
skin and dry the dampness from her. She closed her eyes for just a
brief
second and pondered the risk. She sighed when she remembered it was a
full
moon.
She turned to the next best thing, and went to soak in the tub. She
went to
her CD player, and found the special CD Sammy had burned for her. She
smiled, for he chuckled at her choice of music, and because she asked
him as
a favor, he never said a word to anyone.
She had found a list of music her mother had listed in her journal,
and when
playing them for the first time, she had been carried back to so many
memories she had forgotten. Josie had not realized just how much she
did
remember. Faces, sights, sounds and smells, back in a flash, with the
playing of the music.
She found the song she needed tonight, and pushed repeat. Lost in a
waking
dream, her eyes closed but the scenes from her past danced before her
consciousness. She soaked until the water grew tepid, the scent
faded, and
the scenes before her eyes, no longer bearable.
She rose from the tub and wrapped the towel around her and she moved
out
into the larger room. She went to the curling stairs that led to the
loft.
The loft was her special place. It was where she could be with her
mother,
her memories, and still try to learn the clues to why.
When she found she missed her mother the most, she would come up here,
and
put on one of her dresses, let her hair down, and stand and look in
the full
length mirror and gaze at the figure before her. She knew from some of
the
****traits she had seen, that she was shorter than her mother. Her
mother
had a more graceful quality about her, a regal aura.
The dresses did not fit her as well as they had Camille. She was not
as
ample and full-figured. Josie was lean, well toned and more petite.
Josie
felt the soft cool breezes stir the soft summer curtains, and turned
to see
them dance as the air currents twirled and caressed them.
Josie stepped back and looked into the mirror again. She smiled and
holding
onto the dress curtseyed deep as she remembered seeing her mother do
on
numerous occasions.
A flash of movement caught her eye, and she turned around to see who
was
standing behind her. There was, of course no one. She stepped out
onto the
private balcony and looked around. There was no-one, not even the
sound of a
stray cat or dog. She looked up and saw the rich fullness of the soft
yellow moon and she smiled and reached her arms out to beckon it
closer,
like she remembered seeing her mother call the moon. She even
remembered
some of the ancient words, and whispered them.
She felt a tingling of sorts course through her and she smiled at her
impishness. So, this was what it felt to be like her. Josie smiled at
the
memory and remembered the dancing in the moon light, and she slowly
twirled
herself in memory of the steps once done in her mother's arms.
As she danced in the moonlight, the soft strains of Pachelbel's Canon
in D
played softly and wafted his soft musical threads which danced with
and
around her.
He watched her from the shadows, and he could not believe his eyes.
She had
returned! Camille, whom he thought lost all those years ago and yet
here
she was, dancing to the night as she had always done. Her face held
the
same wistful smile. But how ... he was sure she ...
"Camille." He said in a hoarse whisper, stepping from the shadows
towards
her.
Lost in the strains of the song, the memories and the magic of the
moment
Josie waltzed and twirled. She slowed as the music did, and when it
came to
a stop before it resumed again she suddenly knew someone was there.
She
turned and looked down from the balcony and there standing in shadows
looking up with. . . rapture on his face? Josie froze, for he was
familiar
in some way, but how? Where? She blushed as she realized he must have
been
awakened by her music.
"Pardonnez-moi monsieur, je n'a pas signifié pour vous déranger!" She
cried
out.
(Translation) Forgive me sir, I did not mean to disturb you!
He gazed up at her, her beautiful face filled with concern. He
replied back
to her in French. "No, no. You did not disturb me. The music is
beautiful. I had so hoped to see you again. Please, may I come up to
you?"
Josie hesitated, for she did not really know this . . . he was so . .
..his
voice! The way the words rolled off his tongue. She could sit and
listen to
him all night. Why did it feel safe and alright to let him come up?
She
turned to glance behind her and saw the loft and she blushed deeply.
He
could not come up and see that. What would he think of her?
Why did it matter? What was wrong with her? She worked for the
Coroners
Office for God's sake, he could be a . . .
Josie noticed he had moved closer and she gasped softly at his face.
He was
so pale! He must be freezing! She thought, and before she could
change her
mind she motioned to him.
"Please come in from out of the night air, before you catch your
death!" She
called to the mystery man. She wondered who he was, and how did he
know her?
He waited for her impatiently to open the door. After all these
years! The
door opened, and she stood there, flushed with her dancing and racing
down
the stairs. She was as he remembered her, and yet, she wasn't.
"Mon Che`re." He whispered. "It has been so long."
Josie peered at him curiously. "But ... I do not know you, do I?"
She
asked.
His hopes sagged at that, had she forgotten him after all this time?
"It is I, beloved, Armande." He took her hand and kissed it.
Josie blushed at the endearments that with his voice, its tone and
accent
caressed a part of her soul she had never known was there. To hear
him call
her thus, with such passion and longing in each syllable and sound.
The soft coolness of his lips against her flushed skin sent streaks of
wild
passion up her arm and through her entire being. She found that she
became
breathless, and her heart seemed to beat faster.
"Armande" she repeated, letting the sound of the name roll over her
tongue.
"I remember your face. . ." she reached up to caress his cheek. "The
eyes,
I can't forget your eyes, they have been with me since I can
remember." She
whispered ever so softly.
Was he real? Was she dreaming? She found she could not pull away from
his
gaze. Those eyes, so . . . mysterious, so deep. . . like deep pools
of . .
they beckoned her to step in. . .they invited her to. . .so sad . ..
so
haunting,
"Armande." She whispered again softly, to hear his name on her lips
sent
another wave of sensations through her. "I know you." She confessed
slowly,
and with surprise in her voice. "But," she continued sounding lost
and
confused. "I can not tell you how I know this."
"It has been a long time. I had thought you lost. Gone forever, else
I
would have searched for you sooner. You are still so young, so
beautiful."
He stepped closer to her, gazing longingly into her eyes. He reached
out
and touched her cheek, stroking it lovingly. Her skin was hot and
smooth.
"Come to me." He compelled. It had been so long. Her confusion would
leave
soon.
Josie found she could not fight the hidden command, not that she
wanted too.
Her mind held out for a few moments, but something stronger within
overcame her reluctance to fight or even prolong his request. For, it
was a
request, and she did not see the harm in doing so. He was quite
handsome,
intoxicating really, and she had never felt like this before.
Perhaps this is from the magic, she pondered for the briefest of
seconds.
Once again, as if a giant curtain opened her mind and cleared away her
thoughts, leaving behind the canvas upon which to create a
masterpiece.
Josie gasped softly as he neared her, and looking deep within those
eyes,
those rich luscious eyes, she found her cheeks flush and she waited
for what
was to come.
He cupped her chin with his hand, raising her head slightly. Her eyes
fluttered close as he leaned towards her, and kissed her, lightly at
first,
and then with a sense of urgency, of a need to make up for lost time.
He
pulled her to him, forcing the breath from her in this tight embrace.
Her
lips were soft and warm, and eager.
His lips brushed her cheek, and then down her neck, and he paused over
her
throat. With his keen senses, Armande could hear the blood ru****ng
through
her veins, and a hunger took over, one that he had thought long lost.
Willing his teeth to extend, he bit her gently, and quivered at the
first
taste of her hot blood.
With the first touch of his lips to hers she let the sensations flow
and she
rode the wild river of passion as it flooded her senses, and wiped
away any
common sense she had left.
All that mattered was here and now. All that mattered was the feelings
that
coursed through her. All that mattered was the hungry urgency that
she
could feel from him, and she reveled in the power of it.
She felt his lips, his tongue caressing and then nibbling on her neck.
How
did he know that she loved that? How did he seem to know her secret,
hidden
desires, and then act on them?
She shuddered as she felt a bolt of hot passion rip through her. So
strong
and overwhelming she felt her knees buckle and grow weak. If he had
not
held her in such a tight embrace, she knew she would slide to the
floor and
lay like jelly. She thought she could feel the sound of the ocean's
roar in
her ears, and a heart-beat. With each beat it grew stronger, more
powerful
and deafening. She clung to this one, called Armande and held on for
dear
life.
Armande drank slowly, it had been some time since he last drank. His
life
had seemed so . . .pointless until he saw her name. And to find her
here!
But, no, something was wrong, different. The blood! It was not her
blood.
It hinted at her, but it was different, a sharper taste to it.
He kissed the wound away, and then saw the mark. He knew that only
his
senses allowed him to see it. The symbol was a stylized 'G' complete
with
skulls and roses. The mark of the Giovanni! He staggered back, the
last of
the sensations riding through him.
"Who. . .What is your name?" He asked, holding her wrist in his hand.
Josie's eyes fluttered opened with surprise as the tone of his voice
changed. He seemed upset, angry, demanding. She struggled at his
hold on
her wrist. His eyes changed as well, gone was the soft gentleness she
had
only just seen.
She felt dizzy, and breathless, and she was now afraid. Who was he?
She
tried to pull away, and yet he clung to her tighter.
"Josie." She whispered trying to keep the slow encroaching fear from
her
voice.
"Josette Antoinette Marie-Claudette Deauvereux" She whispered again
when her
name had not seemed to ring any bells.
"Josette?" The name burned in Armande's mind. "The child?"
Various emotions? Flashed across his face as his eyes bored into hers.
"I wonder if this is how Mama felt?" she let the little thought escape
her
lips in an inaudible sound. Josie was not even aware that she more
than
mouthed the words, so loud were they echoing in her head.
He looked down in his confusion, seeing that he held her wrist in a
vice-like grip. It would surely bruise by morning. And yet, he did
not let
go. Instead, he pulled her to him, and turned her face up to his.
"Tell me. What do you know of the Witch's Dance? What do you know of
Calling down the Moon? Does Luna grace you with insight?"
Josie was stunned into silence and she looked upon his face, so
intense, so
filled with an anger that bordered on urgency. She did not know what
to
say, she tried to say nothing, but the eyes continued to bore through
her,
and she knew he would ferret out the hidden things she kept away from
all
others. How did she know he would know? She realized he thought she
was
her mother! He had been seeking Camille; he had come to claim her.
He had
found her instead. Had she called him when speaking the words from
her
mother's little book?
"I know many things." She whispered back, her voice low and husky with
emotion. "What do you want of Camille?" she demanded. She had to find
out.
Who was he? Why did he search for Camille? Was he one of her long
lost
lovers?
Josie tried to remember all she had read from the secret journals that
her
mother had kept.
She remembered his name, but what had she written about him? So much
of her
journals had been written in code, and she was still learning the
little
secrets. Was he a ghost? A long lost spirit who searched in vain for
his
lost love?
"Did I call you?" she finally asked in a whispered tone of awe.
The daughter, Camille's child. He looked at her again, and he could
see it
now. The dress she wore, did not fit correctly. Her face, so like
Camille's and yet not.
He had been a fool. Camille was long dead, and buried. But her child;
so
much like her mother, and yet denying the more im****tant part.
He gazed deeply in her eyes, searching within her soul.
"You will not remember this." He said snipping the still forming
memories of
this encounter from her mind. He closed her eyes and then kissed her
one
final time.
And then he was gone.
[NRPG- Reflection Post- Character development]
[SUMMARY]
2 years in the past Josie finds herself drawn to her special place and
does
her private ritual to bring her mother to her. While she is dancing
in the
moonlight Armande sees her. He mistakes her for another and calls to
her,
and they meet and as he goes to claim her and bring her back into the
fold,
he learns she is not Camille, but her daughter.
He is shocked to learn she carries the mark of the Giovanni, and with
sadness he removes her memory of this encounter and leaves.

University of New Orleans
Library
Night 7
Yawning and rubbing her tired eyes, Lindsey leaned back in her chair,
gazing at the computer screen in front of her. The small black
letters
seemed to blur against the white background, and she shook her head,
undoing her ponytail and massaging the back of her head with her
fingertips.
New project. Diaries and journals housed in the Library were going to
be transcribed into the computer system to preserve the information,
allow easier access and prevent further damage to the often fragile
books. And of course, given that it was a project funded by the city,
enough information had to be inputted within a tight timeframe to
allow
presenters to look good when they approached various organizations
with
this new system.
And Lindsey had been elected to drop everything else and do it. It
was just as well. She'd not been able to help out Agent Falstaff and
his associate anyway. Although she was going to keep an eye and an
ear
open, just in case.
So here she was, in the Library past midnight, her eyes drying out and
her fingers throbbing as she tried to enter information and life
stories from dim pages.
Sighing, she pushed back her chair and stood up, picking up the diary
she had been transcribing, gently flipping back through it. Frankly,
she wondered if the young lady who had written it suffered from some
form of hysteria. The neat, faded copperplate writing was a contrast
to what she was saying. All Lindsey could gather was that the young
woman had witnessed silently a bizarre VooDoo ritual in the bayou
beyond her Plantation house, and everything had gone downhill from
there.
So why was she entering it? Some perverse pleasure in presenting the
city fathers with the dark underbelly of Antebellum New Orleans she
supposed. The woman who wrote the diary blabbered on in distinct
detail about zombies, ghosts, hell, even vampires. Claiming that
these
things roamed the acerage of the plantation house, even slipping into
the imposing, now long gone building from time to time. She spoke of
the scent of rotting things, the sight of pale, luminous beings in the
swamps beyond.
Fascinating stuff really.
Yawning, the dark haired librarian left her office, intent on
refueling
in the staff kitchen with a cup of strong, hot coffee. And she
carried
the diary with her. Frankly, she was starting to like the personality
of the woman who wrote it, struggling to maintain her public persona
while her mind slowly unhinged.
In the kitchen, she carefully set the diary on the coffee table in
front of the beat up old sofa, and poured herself a cup of the thick
brew. She was alone in the building except for the night security
downstairs. Kicking off her shoes, she settled back on the sofa,
resting her feet on the table and settled back to read the diary cover
to cover.

Day 4 Midafternoon
The Orchards of Ravensdale
The alarm bell was still ringing when S'ran's dragon landed and
Cherry scrambled down just on the edge of the area threatened by the
fire. The villagers had formed a fire brigade as soon as the warning
bells from the firewatch towers started ringing.
Every man, woman, and child in Ravensdale knew what to do when the
bells started ringing. Every able bodied person grabbed a bucket and
an axe and headed towards the flames. There was at least one well
dug for every 10 acres, and people formed a line to move the buckets
from the well to the fireline. The men with axes were busy hacking
down trees in the danger zone as quickly as they could, hoping to
prevent the fire from moving from tree to tree all across the
orchard. It was a fight for survival. If they lost too many trees
to the flames, they wouldn't be able to replace them this late into
the flowering season. The entire crop of apples, the village's main
source of income, might be devastated if the fire couldn't be
controlled.
So close to the fire line, the heat was enough to bake flesh. Cherry
turned and saw Freddie and Dalph and the other men from the orchard
frantically chopping down trees. She saw the yellow dragon's rider
right there with the men, swinging his huge weapon. Every swing of
the axes meant they were losing trees, and she could have cried at
the loss if she wasn't so angry. She saw R'tem move towards a
stranger in full battle armor who stood off to the side next to his
black dragon, also armored. He wasn't helping to stop the fire, he
was just standing there, and if what she'd heard S'ran say, that he
was the one who had started the fire, she hoped he was roasting alive
in his stupid metal suit.
Hurrying towards the fire line, she went to work with the others.
She had no axe but she could help pull the cut trees and branches out
of the way of the men who did. She had a moment of panic when her
skirts caught fire on a still burning branch she was dragging out of
the way, but she ripped the skirt off and tossed it in the fire,
leaving her in her knee-length chemise and bodice. It didn't matter.
Nothing mattered but putting the fire out and getting to the cave
beyond it. Covered in soot and blinking her eyes against the
burning air, she grabbed another branch when someone grabbed her arm
and pulled her close enough to tie a length of wet fabric around her
face over her nose and mouth. Instantly she realized that it helped
with the smoke that was burning her lungs. She reached again for
the huge blackened branch to drag it out of the way, ignoring the
burning heat of the smoldering wood. They had to keep trying.
She had no idea how long it was before she looked up through the
black smoke and saw a couple of the dragonriders had found a break in
the fire line and were going through it towards the cave. A fallen
tree still smoldered and smoked in front of the entrance, but someone
was hacking it in half with an axe. Cherry dropped the wood she held
and ran to help them. Getting to Celeste was her only thought.
No sooner had they gotten the tree out of the way than she was
running towards the entrance. Someone grabbed her from behind to
stop her before she could enter the cave, and she turned to see a
slim, black-haired man in black leather pants and jacket, but she
couldn't tell which of the dragonriders it was for all the soot on
his face. She could only make out the crystal blue eyes. She
struggled against his hold for a few moments, but he was surprisingly
strong for his build.
Cherry gritted her teeth and slammed an elbow into his ribs hard
enough to loosen his hold and broke free just as two of the riders
came out of the cave. One was carrying a body, a golden haired girl
in a frothy pink dress smeared with black ash. The girl was coughing
harshly but she was alive and awake.
Cherry ran towards her sister to make sure she was okay, but she
caught her foot on a fallen branch and fell forward, slamming hard on
the ground and then everything went black.
[.]
Her throat was dry. Very dry. She wanted water. She wanted water
more than anything else in the world, and she opened her eyes to look
for some. The room didn't look like any room she'd ever been in. It
was small with plain white plastered walls and she was lying on a
narrow bed in the middle of it. There was a small table on the side
of her bed and she could see the big glazed mug sitting on that
table. There was water in there, she just knew it, though she
couldn't seem to smell anything but smoke. She reached for the mug
but what came out from under the covers was a big wad of clean white
bandaging instead of her hand. She pulled her other hand out and it
too was wrapped up carefully in bandages.
She was so frustrated she wanted to cry. Her face felt tight and hot
and her tongue felt swollen in her mouth.
"." She tried to call for help, but it came out as a faint croak.
She tried again. "Help." Even she could barely hear herself. But
someone must have been listening because a woman came through the
door. Long grey hair streaked with white looked odd against the
woman's youthful features, but Cherry didn't care what the woman
looked like.
"Water?" She croaked again, and the woman nodded and smiled at her
as she came on into the room and picked up the mug next to the bed.
"You're awake. Good. We were worried about you after that knock you
took on the head." The grey haired woman put a hand beneath Cherry's
head and lifted her up so she could put the mug to her lips. The
cool water rushed into Cherry's mouth and it was the best water she'd
ever tasted. She gulped and gulped until the mug was empty, and
wished there was more to drink.
When the woman pulled the mug away from her lips and laid her back
down, Cherry licked her dry lips and coughed to clear her throat.
"Thank you." It still sounded a bit harsh, but she felt so much
better she didn't care.
"You're welcome. I'm Freya." She set the mug down on the table
again and sat on the edge of the bed.
"I'm Cherry. Where am I? Where's my sister?"
NRPG: Hey Carina, would you mind Searching her while she's in the
med center healing up from minor burns and scratches and a bump on
the head? Her sister is probably suffering a little smoke damage but
nothing that would permanently scar. Cherry would have missed Link
and Ranker fighting it out, and if you hadn't guessed that would be
Kaymann she elbowed in the gut. Anyone of the riders could have
carried Cherry back to the warren so tags all around!

The re****ts came in and Breezy was furious, not only the fact that
there were bandits attacking the locals, but the fact that Ranker had
really screwed up big time and had disoberyed a direct order. So much
for gentle hospitality. If he was innocent as he proclaimed they'd
have a hell of a time proving it now and the punishment didn't sit
well with her. She was so angry that Ranker could rot at the bottom of
dung heap at this point for all she cared, but the thought of what it
would do to his dragon was her greater concern. Hurrying to the green
she caught K'tarr and L'oki as they mounted up. Suddenly a flash of
white on one of the outcroppings caught her eye and an idea came to
mind. Sending a message to Coo to have Jale come immediately, she
approached the two wingleaders.
"Help get those fires out as quick as you can!" Then turning pointedly
to K'tarr, "Bring that jackass back here and I don't care how you do
it!" The faint smile the tattooed rider gave her didn't meet his eyes
and he nodded his icy gaze turning to the riders. Her own lips curved
up slightly, young Ranker was about to learn what being a badass was
all about.
The sound of runnng feet made her turn and Jale out of breath came
running up a medical bag already in hand. "What's wrong? Pearl said
you needed to see me right now! I hear there's a problem in one of the
villages"
The little redhead smiled, "I'm sure Pearl has let you know about the
fires in Ravensdale. Do you think that you and he might be able to
help get them out! I'm sure there well be plenty of injuries also,
but getting the fire out is inperative. I'm not sure what Pearl can
do, but please whatever you do, don't freeze what's left of the crop!
But his ice breath might help somehow!"
[..] In the orchards
Through the haze of smoke the silent men watched the events. Some
helped others hung back hidden as they had watched the scene unfold.
The armored could be a problem and that dragon of his was no better.
Two of the watchers gazed at each other and smiled. Hidden as they
were they scanned the area and the man looking for any signs of
weakness in the armor he wore and it wasn't long before it presented
itself.
[..]
The drug laced dart penetrated Ranker's skin through a small opening
in the heavy metal and he spun around in surprise quickly raising his
weapon to an unseen foe. But it was too late and in the next moment
the big man dropped slumped to the ground his armor making an eereie
metallic clanging sound as the sky above filled with dragons.

Subject: USS Oberon: it has begun (duck!)
Eoin finished his ****ft, and as predicted, nothing happened. It
wasnıt one
of those ³nothing happened, but I was busy the whole damn night² kinds
of
things. No, in this case, LITERALLY nothing happened. There were two
crewmen on with him, and other than that, there wasnıt a sound in the
rest
of the ****p. No repair crews needing to check in. No operations
staff
checking sensor arrays. No senior staff members checking in for no
reason.
Literally, nothing was going on.
Jon came on to replace him, promptly at 0800 hours. The engine check
cycle
was going on in the background, and it was the end of ****ft ritual.
Each department had their own way. On the bridge, it was usually
something
formal like, ³<Insert name here>, I am here to replace you.² ³I stand
replaced² as the usual response.
Or in the Security department, ³this is <insert name> coming on duty.²
³Affirmative, you are marked as on.²
Or his favorite, in medical, ³who can I practice my micro-surgery on
today?²
It was a ritual, and every department had it. And so Jon came in,
asked
about the night, Eoin stared at him. Jon just laughed, ³another
interesting
one, eh? Well, why donıt you stop by your girlıs quarters. I canıt
imagine
she wonıt want to see ya.²
³She might, well, maybe Iıll bring her some coffee.²
³Good luck, Eoin.² Jon said, walking over to the ³pool table.²
³Computer,
please display astrometrics scans from the last 24 hours. Include all
gravimetric changes and display all anomalies.²
<Display complete. No new scans were performed during specified
time.> The
computer responded.
³Expand to 48 hours.²
<No new scans were performed.>
³Computer, please perform level 1 diagnostic on all astrometric
systems.²
<Diagnostic complete. All systems functioning within normal
parameters.>
³Hrm...² just then Alex walked around the corner. ³Alex, have you
noticed
any problems with astrometics?²
³Other than the usual idiots who work there?² He asked, much to Jonıs
amusement.
OYeah.² It had been a long running joke that Query wanted to absorb
them
into the engineering team just so he could fire all of them. Never
did he
get what he wanted the first time, and he always seemed to get him
more and
more upset every time he requested something.
³Nothing new, but did you see Lucy?² Alex had been lusting after this
girl
< who coincidentally was dating Eoin < for the better part of a week
now.
Since heıd been introduced to her, heıd been convinced he could get
her.
³She was smokinı!²
³Maybe, but I had so much fun last night. After Sherry got back from
a wild
goose chase, she came over to my quarters and we....²
³Well, hereıs a bunch of engineers standing around...² Sherry said,
walking
around the corner.
Grimacing, and hoping she didnıt hear a word of what had just
transpired,
Jon spoke up. ³So, whatıs on the list for the today?²
³Well, letıs start with the top. Query is raging. Stay the hell away
from
him. FıTok is already hiding.²
³Hiding?² Jon asked.
³Yes,² she said. ³I sent him to the hydroponics area. He should be
safe
there for the time being.²
³Yeah, just so long as Query doesnıt think to ask the computer where
he is.²
Alex quipped sarcastically.
³Yeah.² Sherry said, almost ignoring his comment. ³Well, either way,
just
keep away from him, or if you see him, run away.² She said, smiling,
as she
walked away. ³Oh, and Jon, can I borrow you for a moment?² Jon and
Alex
exchanged VERY embarrassed looks, and as he walked away, he mouthed a
four
letter word describing what he was in if she heard them talking
before...
³Yeah, Sherry. What can I do for you?² Jon said, walking with her
out of
Engineering.
³Might I just offer you some advice that if you want more of what you
got
last night, that you not go spreading it around, hmm?² She said,
giving him
a small kiss on the cheek, and walking off, swaying her hips as she
did.
³Yeah,² he said walking back to his station.
******
Meanwhile, somewhere else on the ****p...
³Query?²
³Yes, captain.² Query said, turning around, annoyed that the captain
would
deign it necessary to bother him. ³What do you need?²
³Excuse me?² The captain asked.
³I said, what do you need, sir?² Query bit out, more annoyed than he
was
before.
³I need you to go to the station, and find Bolsand. Tell him, its
started
and find out what we need to do. Heıll know what it means. Heıll
give you
instructions. Please bring them back to me. We will use them to move
forward.²
³right.²
³Do you need to bring someone else with you? Iım sure Lt. Anton is
free...²
³No, sir, Iım quite fine. Is that all?²
³Yes, Lt.²
³Thank you,² Query spit out. Now, not only was he the only officer
doing
ANYTHING at this point, but now he was being sent on wild goose
chases.
Query left the ****p, promptly after checking his PADD back at his
quarters.
He stepped onto the cardo. The bazaar was not surprisingly still
busy, even
at this time of night. People always needed things, so this was as
good a
time as any to get them.
As he walked the halls on his way to the assigned meeting place, women
were
passing by him with cat calls. Still the universeıs oldest
profession, and
it didnıt surprise Query even one bit. Why shouldnıt they come after
him?
Just because lia wouldnıt, didnıt mean no one noticed him. ³Hey baby,
do
you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?² One of
them
said as he crossed through the doorway. ³Hey gorgeous, if I said you
had a
good body, would you hold it against me?² Another said as he passed
by,
pu****ng people out of the way.
As he crossed through the last doorway he knew of, he heard someone
³psst²-ing at him. ³Mr. Neile, looking for me?² He heard the shadow
say.
³Step out, and Iıll tell you.² Query said, getting into a ready
position in
case he had to lunge at the person. Not that it would matter. If the
man
was even remotely intelligent, heıd be carrying a phaser.
³Of course. My name is Bolsand. Has it begun?²

Subject: DL-N The search continues.
Day 5
"For your info. this mission for me at least has nothing to do with
the warren, this town, or the little girl. Don't get me wrong. I am
going to try to say that little girl at all cost, but if it takes her
death to bring down Lawrence then so be it. I'm here for Lawrence, and
nothing else. As for the ocher that can be redone. Miner lost for a
good price." Ranker told the strange rider. Then got on board
Kautivrad, and headed to the cave after saying. " No I wont stay out
of anyones way. You stay out of my way. Lawrence is mine."
[OK Kautiv blast the debris out of the way.]
So Kautivrad lanced a fire ball at the cave entrance that exploded the
entrance wide open.
The giant black dragon let his rider off at the mouth of the cave
where Ranker waited for the smoke to clear.

Subject: DL-N] what happened?
day 5
After submitting Ranker Tried to figure out why he couldn't move.
As Link collapsed on the ground Ranker pulled his sword and was going
to hit Link in the back of the head with the blunt part of his sword
to keep Link from stopping him from getting to Lawrence, but he heard
a voice in his head. < You submitted you lost. Honer that lost by not
attacking a man from behind or when they better you.>
Ranker looked at Link, and saw that he was weakened. He went to the
frount a the giant blond and offered his hand to help.
Link took his hand, and as Ranker lifted him to his feet he said to
the blond man. "Okay You bettered me today. Next time lets try this
without your mind gift."
Link looked supprized that Ranker knew.
"Don't be supprized. I've seen mind users as we called them before. I
couldn't figure out why I missed you, or why I couldn't move until you
fell to your knees. The mind gift usally drain life force from the
user, and I noticed that's what happened to you."
Just then a strange dragon aproched, atleast strange to Ranker.
NRPG the story continues to Chris's post.

Subject: [DL-N] Worry worry worry
Day 5
Ranker sees some of the riders bringing out the girl. <Good she's
alright, and safe. One worry down.> Then Ranker gets an idea.[ Kautiv?
remember the thieves guild has allot of sand.]
{Yeah so?}
[Hay don't get cocky, just use your abilities and get it fast, and
allot of it to put that fire out quick. It's not that big yet it will
work. Now go.]
{Fine! I'll be back soon.}
So Kautivrad tele****ts to the thieves guild grabs four huge bag of
sand (about fifty pounds each), and tele****ts back, and opens the bags
one at a time gently pouring the sand on the fire completely covering
it, putting it out quickly. The villagers cheer at the dragons effort
as the men continue cutting down the burnt trees, and covering the
area with water to make sure the fire is out.
Ranker looks down at S'Ran and salutes him then he disappears into the
cave.
Now with only one cross bow he hopes not to many people are left in
here.
Tag Lawrence if you want to do this face to face battle of swords. But
Ranker will kill all others in his way of Lawrence with his crossbow.
After the cave search.
Ranker gets on Kautivrad and tells him to go to the thieves guild.
Once there Ranker goes to Carnivorous, and tells him all that
happened, and why he took the sand.
"No prob. Ranker." He said "Let me get you a new crossbow, and show
you our newest crossbow.
The new crossbow looks just like a regular two handed heavy crossbow
with metal lining the bottom so it could block sharp weapons, and a
pull lever on the bottom to quickly reset the string with two thin
metal hooks that grab the string as you pull the pull bar on the
bottom back until the string sets, but you have to put the bolt in
manually.
"I'll take that to." Ranker added. "And as for payment I'll give you
all of Kautivrads armor. I don't think he will need it. They say here
will fly faster with out it so lets see."
"It's a deal." The thief agreed.
Day 6 Early morning.
Ranker goes to the med center to see the young girl that was in the
cave, and her sister. Now completely unarmed Cherry didn't recognize
him.
"How are you girls doing today? The names Ranker. I just wanted to see
how yous are doing here."
Tag Cherry.
Submitted by Jim for
Ranker and Kautivrad.
<Summery>
Day 5 Ranker has Kautivrad help put out the fire to make very minimum
damage and hope that S'Ran got that he's still on thier side. Then
Ranker went to look for Lawrence.
Then Ranker goes to the thieves guild to replace his crossbow that
Link broke, and got
A NEW HEAVY CROSSBOW TOO.
Day 6 early morning
Ranker goes to the med center to check in on the girls that they went
to save.

Subject: [DL-D] Heart to Heart
Before the jump...
<snip>
Sharees spun around her face flushed with anger rising on her toes and
the
two riders squared off when a loud cough sounded and they both
suddenly
realized they had drawn a crowd. Glaring at each other for several
moments
both swung away marching off in opposite directions, Sharees to the
Wingleaders' offices and Lexi to the "Lusty Duchess" for a tall mug of
ale.
<end snip>
Lyin was one of those that happened to hear in on the end of the
screaming
match between Lexi and Sharees. She frowned slightly and watched as
Sharees
headed into the wingleaders office. She leaned back against the wall
as the
small crowd began to wander away, whispering to each other. After a
few
moments she went to her office to gather up some papers and then to
just
outside the offices. There she stood and waited for Sharees to emerge.
Sharees had forced herself to calm down as she'd given her re****t to
T'rell.
She emerged and closed the door behind her. Leaning up against it, she
sighed deeply, unaware of the woman waiting for her. She was not
looking
forward to facing the warren after that little scene with Lexi.
When she finally does emerge from the offices Lyin is there waiting.
"Hey Sharees," Lyin said softly.
Sharees looked up in surprise. "Oh, hey Lyin." She could only imagine
that
the courier had heard the fight and flushed a bit.
Lyin smiled some and moved closer to the Wingsecond. "I was wondering
if you
wanted to come over to my apartment for something hot to drink?"
A look of surprise crossed Sharees's face, then one of gratitude.
"Thanks."
They strolled together across the green toward the riders' apartments.
The walk to Lyin's apartment was quiet. Once there Lyin put on a pot
of
water to boil and offered Sharees a seat. While waiting Lyin went to
sit
with her guest.
"So." She paused a moment. She was not really good at small talk. "I
was
hoping to talk to you about Lexi."
"Oh," Sharees sighed, "You don't need to ask me. I've no claim to him.
Not
any more. Not sure I ever did. He's a free man. If you want to... If
you are
interested in him..."
Lyin blinked. It took a moment for what Sharees said to sink into her
brain.
"Oh no no no. I mean he's nice enough but I have no interest in him."
She
chuckled a bit.
"It's a good thing to because I don't think Lexi will ever look at
anyone
else the way he looks at you."
Sharees blushed, "Sorry, I thought... When you said you wanted to talk
to me
about him, I assumed...." She laughed softly, "And the way he looks at
me?
If looks could kill, I'd be wyvern bait."
"Bah. Your vision is clouded by your emotion." She smiled and moved to
the
kitchen to get their tea then back to the sofa.
Sharees looked around the room as she waited for Lyin to set the tea
out
before them. "You didn't bring very many things with you. The walls
are a
bit bare. I've some hangings if you'd like to come by my shop. I'd be
glad
to give you one."
Lyin nodded. "To be honest I didn't count on staying very long. I
don't have
very many *things*. Just enough to be able to pack up in a matter of
moments
and take with me."
Lyin offered Sharees a cup of tea and then sat.
"But yeah, a picture or two might be nice."
"Then you'll have to come and look through them and see what you
like."
Sharees smiled. She sipped the tea and sighed as it hit the spot. "But
why
didn't you think you'd want to stay?"
Lyin glanced down into her tea cup for a long moment and then back to
Sharees. "When I first came here it was for Mylinna. I didn't like
being
around people. Didn't trust them and thought I was happier being
alone. Even
after being here a while I wouldn't let me guard down, ready to bolt
at any
moment."
She paused and then looked reflective. "The village where I grew up
was the
first place I ever ran from. I was engaged to be married to a boy I
had
loved ever since I was old enough to understand what love meant. The
night
before the wedding I found him with my best friend, in her bed." Lyin
brushed her hand across her face and then continued.
"My world shattered that day. I left the next. I vowed to never trust
another man again." She paused and sipped her tea.
Sharees nodded, she'd heard lots of stories from a lot of women as to
why
they'd never trust a man again. She certainly understood from her own
experiences. "I can understand how that would be devastating, though,
not
all men are like your former betrothed, and not all women are like
your
former friend."
Lyin nodded. "I am learning that. I am more stubborn than most I
think." She
smirked. "I never thought I could love again, and then I met M'sollo."
She
sighed softly, the pain of losing him still sharp.
"You know the first moment I knew I loved him he pushed me off a
cliff."
Sharees gasped, "HE did WHAT?" Sharees stared at her in shock,
"Obviously
you are still alive. So what happened?"
"Reyr caught us and brought us to a field. Apparently it's a trick he
and
Reyr had worked on. He wanted to make a point to me because I was
being so
stubborn about letting him care about me."
She paused and looked away, her eyes clouding over. "He told me all I
had to
do was jump, and he would catch me." Her voice was softer and sorrow
filled.
"He wanted you to trust him." Sharees watched the emotions play across
the
younger woman's face. "But now he's gone... and you are still here."
She nodded. "Yes I am. At first just for Mylinna. But then I came to
realize
that I fit here. It doesn't matter if there is a man to love me or
not. I
belong in this place." She smiled faintly and then looked back to
Sharees.
"But enough about me. What concerns me is you, and Lexi. To put it
bluntly
you love each other. I know things have happened that have rocked the
foundation of that love, but it's still there. Watching the two of you
tear
each other apart is...well it's heartbreaking."
Sharees shook her head, "No, you're wrong. Lexi doesn't love me
anymore. I'm
not sure if he ever really did."
"Why do you think that Sharees?"
"I don't think, I know. He couldn't be happy for me that I was asked
to be
the Wingsecond. No, he had to immediately think the worst of me --
that I
had to sleep with ... well, it wasn't true! He pretended to care for
me when
all he really wanted was ***. When I couldn't give him what he wanted,
he
turned on me. That's all he thinks women are good for. He's no better
than
those Osran riders!" Sharees's eyes burned hotly, and she slammed the
tea
cup into the saucer, leaving it rattling as it settled.
Lyin frowned. "If that was true then why does he still get upset when
he
sees you? I mean if all he wants is *** I would think there are plenty
of
pretty women around to satisfy him that he wouldn't care one wit that
he'd
lost you."
"Oh, I'm sure he does. You know I can't really understand it, except
perhaps
that it's that he can't have me."
Lyin sighed and shook her head lightly. "I never thought I would meet
a
woman more stubborn than me," she muttered softly.
Sharees shook her head, "I'm stubborn? Well, yes, guess I am. But
believe
me, Lexi made his own decision, and that was to end our relation****p.
It
wasn't me that did that."
"Do you still love him?"
"What difference would that make?" Sharees asked, her temper rising.
"He's
made it quite clear that he doesn't care at all about me."
Lyin held firm. "That's not what I asked Sharees."
"Yes, No!" Sharees sat back, looking defeated, I don't know anymore,
Lyin. I
just don't know."
She set aside her cup and pulled the woman's hands into her own.
"Listen to
me Sharees. You have something so precious. I know you are angry, and
you
feel betrayed but it's in the past now. I don't know if it was
mistakes, or
misunderstandings or what. The point is that you love him, and whether
or
not you believe it he loves you too."
She sighed and sat back. "Don't put yourself though more needless
pain. Set
aside your anger at him and think about it."
Sharees smiled and said in a teasing voice, "This coming from a woman
who
swore off men?" Then she sobered, "If it were only that easy, Lyin.
But my
heart isn't the only one involved, and I just don't see where you are
coming
from with what you say about Lexi. If he once loved me, which I'm
really
starting to doubt, then it's long gone."
"You are wrong," Lyin stated plainly before smiling back. "And just
because
I swore off men doesn't mean that I enjoy watching my friends go
through
something like this." She paused thoughtfully. "I wish you could see
him
through my eyes. You would see the love then."
"Honestly! Enough about Lexi! If I see that man or even hear his name
one
more time I think I'll scream," She grinned at Lyin. "You know... For
a
woman who swore off men, didn't I see you with Alexander Gossimor?"
Lyin smirked at the change of subject. "We are friends. That's all."
She
reached for her teacup and sipped the now cold tea.
"Friends, hmm?" Sharees grinned. "I didn't get to know him all that
well
when he was here before. Not my type at all, but... He can be quite
da****ng," Sharees chuckled, "with all those fancy, landbound, ways."
Lyin rolled her eyes just a bit. "Yeah I have known many da****ng men
in my
day. One in fact very recently disappeared from my life. I am not
ready, nor
do I think I ever will be ready for another relation****p." She looked
thoughtful. "I finally feel content with my life. I don't want to ruin
that
by introducing another man who will end up leaving me."
Sharees nodded, "I'm glad you are content here. I suppose working with
the
Duchess has been rather fulfilling?"
She nodded. "I like her, and I am learning a lot from her. She's
become a
very dear friend."
Sharees didn't picture the Duchess as anyone's friend and that
surprised
her. "She certainly has some interesting ideas. And as much as I love
Pandora, I'm a bit relieved that we have Thea in charge with all that
is
going on. I don't know if Pandora could have withstood the onslaught
of Lord
Gossimor in his request for help."
She nodded in agreement. "It seems as if everyone has fallen into the
places
they were meant to be."
Sharees agreed, "And speaking of places I need to be... I need to be
picking
up Angel from Miss April. Thanks for the tea, and the talk." And with
that
she left, but her heart was pondering what Lyin had said.
