Subject: [DL-N] Drug Hazed Memories (bandaid post)

Day 4, Midafternoon
By the cave during the fire

Dargis shook his head, "For your sake, I hope that Cherry's
sister, the ORIGINAL reason that we were here, is still alive. If
she isn't, you will be held responsible for the death of an
innocent. For now, I suggest you stay out of everyone's way because
you seem to be causing more trouble than solving it."

Turning on his heel, he went back to cutting down trees with
the villagers in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading further.

<end snip of Chris's post, begin snip from Bianca's post>

The alarm bell was still ringing when S'ran's dragon landed and
Cherry scrambled down just on the edge of the area threatened by the
fire. The villagers had formed a fire brigade as soon as the warning
bells from the firewatch towers started ringing.

[.]

She had no idea how long it was before she looked up through the
black smoke and saw a couple of the dragonriders had found a break in
the fire line and were going through it towards the cave. A fallen
tree still smoldered and smoked in front of the entrance, but someone
was hacking it in half with an axe. Cherry dropped the wood she held
and ran to help them. Getting to Celeste was her only thought.

No sooner had they gotten the tree out of the way than she was
running towards the entrance. Someone grabbed her from behind to
stop her before she could enter the cave, and she turned to see a
slim, black-haired man in black leather pants and jacket, but she
couldn't tell which of the dragonriders it was for all the soot on
his face.

Cherry gritted her teeth and slammed an elbow into his ribs hard
enough to loosen his hold and broke free just as two of the riders
came out of the cave. One was carrying a body, a golden haired girl
in a frothy pink dress smeared with black ash. The girl was coughing
harshly but she was alive and awake.

Cherry ran towards her sister to make sure she was okay, but she
caught her foot on a fallen branch and fell forward, slamming hard on

the ground and then everything went black.

S'ran saw Cherry go down and not get up and he hurried to her side to
check on her just as Ranker, seeing the path to the cave was clear,
grabbed his crossbow up and was came strutting through the break in
the firewall like he was looking for a fight with any enemies who
might still remain in the cave. Link, looking around at the
blackened area left by the fire and his blond hair and riding
leathers smudged with soot and ash, saw Ranker coming towards them
and stepped in the armored man's way, drew his sword, and shouted at
him.

<insert edited snips from Max's post>

" Ranker! You disgraced the warren in the eyes of these people with
your foolish ignorance! I challenge you!"

With that Ranker drew his weapons and said," I accept."

Link charged and the knight fired off two shots which seemed like
they'd hit But something odd happened. The two arrows veered off
course as if the gods gave the arrows a will of their own. Before
Ranker could reload, Link, using his sword, knocked the crossbow out
of his hands, cutting it in half in the process.

Ranker was knocked to the ground and was held there by an invisible
force as Link brought the tip of his sword to Ranker's throat.

Kautivrad sensing that his rider was in trouble tried to rush in but
Cloud appeared before him.<Do not interfere!>the white stated,< My
rider won't kill him. In fact my rider sees a lot of himself in
Ranker. There was a time that Link would have done that same thing.
Besides, this is a battle for what humans call honor. And what you
and your rider did today made the warren look pretty bad.>

Link looked down at the man and asked," Do you submit?" Ranker sighed
and nodded. With that Link put his sword away. As he moved away the
tall blond rider fell to his knees. He had been practicing the use of
his ability in secret but it still took a lot out of him. If Ranker
had not submitted he could have easily won at that moment.

When Link fell to his knees, the hold on Ranker eased enough that he
could get to his feet. The armored man pulled his sword and was going
to hit Link in the back of the head with the blunt part of his sword,
but he heard a voice in his head. < You submitted, you lost. Honor
that loss by not attacking a man from behind or when they better
you.>

It was at that point that K'tarr's dart found it's mark in Ranker's
armor and struck the man, sending it's medicine coursing through his
veins. Ranker's sword dropped from his numbing fingers and he fell
almost immediately after into a deep sleep, collapsing backwards to
the ground with a huge clatter.

No sooner had Ranker collapsed then K'tarr was giving orders. "Get
the wounded. Get Ranker too. Strip his armor off if you have to.
Jale is here with Pearl and we're going to try to freeze the fire
out, but we need to get everyone away from this side of the flames in
case they get hit with the ice too. Hurry!" Many of the riders
there were from the Alpha-wing and rushed to follow K'tarr's
commands. The others did what they could to help too. S'ran hefted
Cherry's limp body into his arms and he saw one of the other rider's
give Link a hand getting up while R'tem, Kaymann and one of the
others stripped the armor and weapons off Ranker so they could carry
his limp sleeping body to safety. They left his armor where it fell
as they dragged the man out of the area. Dargis carried Cherry's
sister out of the blackened and burned place and back across the
break where the villagers were still trying to stop the fire.

<tag Eddie!  Go for it>

Day 5, o'dark thirty
Norwall Medical Center

Lying on the medical bed, his clothing removed and covered with only
a sheet, Ranker tossed and turned in his drug induced sleep, lost in
dreams where yesterday's memories of the fire mingled with his own
fantasies.

[Ranker's Dream]

Dargis confronted him, looking furious and carrying his huge weapon.

The rider of the yellow dragon shook his head, "For your sake, I hope
that Cherry's sister, the ORIGINAL reason that we were here, is still
alive. If she isn't, you will be held responsible for the death of an
innocent. For now, I suggest you stay out of everyone's way because
you seem to be causing more trouble than solving it."

Smoke seemed to drift in front of Ranker's eyes and he heard himself
say in the dream to Dargis, "For your info. this mission for me at
least has nothing to do with the warren, this town, or the little
girl. Don't get me wrong. I am going to try to say that little girl
at all cost, but if it takes her death to bring down Lawrence then so
be it. I'm here for Lawrence, and nothing else. As for the ocher that
can be redone. Miner lost for a good price." Ranker told the strange
rider. Then got on board Kautivrad, and headed to the cave after
saying. " No I wont stay out of anyone' s way. You stay out of my
way. Lawrence is mine."
[OK Kautiv blast the debris out of the way.]
So Kautivrad lanced a fire ball at the cave entrance that exploded
the entrance wide open.
The giant black dragon let his rider off at the mouth of the cave
where Ranker waited for the smoke to clear.
The dream ****fted and suddenly the cave was intact again, and the
girl was rescued, and there was the tall blond rider, Link, standing
before him with his sword raised, blocking his path to the cave and
challenging him. Ranker accepted the challenge and raised his
crossbow, thinking to make quick work of the swordsman, but was
surprised when his fired crossbolts missed, and then Link's blade
smashed his crossbow in half, and an invisible force knocked him to
the ground.
Link looked down at the man and asked," Do you submit?" Ranker sighed
and nodded. With that Link put his sword away. As he moved away the
tall blond rider fell to his knees.
Smoke drifted across Ranker's eyes again in the dream, and he stood
up in the dream and looked down at Link who had fallen to his knees
from the exertion of using his mindgift.
Ranker pulled his sword and was going to hit Link in the back of the
head with the blunt part of his sword to keep Link from stopping him
from getting to Lawrence, but he heard a voice in his head. < You
submitted you lost. Honor that lost by not attacking a man from
behind or when they better you.>

Ranker looked at Link, and saw that he was weakened. He went to the
front of the giant blond and offered his hand to help.

Link took his hand, and as Ranker lifted him to his feet he said to
the blond man. "Okay You bettered me today. Next time let's try this
without your mind gift."

Link looked surprised that Ranker knew.

"Don't be surprised. I've seen mind users as we called them before. I
couldn't figure out why I missed you, or why I couldn't move until
you fell to your knees. The mind gift usually drain life force from
the user, and I noticed that's what happened to you."
He glanced up as D'lion flew overhead, bright yellow against the
smoke filled sky, distracting Ranker so that K'tarr could hit him
with the dart.
In the dream, Ranker fell to his knees on the ground, shaking his
head trying to fight off this poison, and succeeded after a few
minutes, enough to stand up and pull the dart out.

[.]
Med Center, early morning day 5

Jale poked his head into the door to check on the unconscious man,
and heard Ranker murmuring in his drug induced sleep, "Hmm just a
scratch. Enough to make me wussy, but not deep enough to work."

The rider turned over, tangled in the sheets on the medical bed and
drifted in his dreams again.

[Ranker's dreams]

Ranker saw some of the riders bringing out the girl. <Good she's
alright, and safe. One worry down.> Then Ranker gets an idea.[
Kautiv? remember the thieves guild has a lot of sand.]

{Yeah so?}

[Hey, don't get cocky, just use your abilities and get it fast, and a
lot of it to put that fire out quick. It's not that big yet it will
work. Now go.]

{Fine! I'll be back soon.}

So Kautivrad tele****ts to the thieves' guild, grabs four huge bag of
sand (about fifty pounds each), and tele****ts back, and opens the
bags one at a time gently pouring the sand on the fire completely
covering it, putting it out quickly. The villagers cheer at the
dragon's effort as the men continue cutting down the burnt trees, and
covering the area with water to make sure the fire is out.

Ranker looks down at S'ran and salutes him then he disappears into
the cave.

Now with only one crossbow he hopes not to many people are left in
here.

In his dream, Ranker wandered in the cavern though tunnels, looking
for Lorence. He remembered that Lorence was dead.that the tree had
fallen on him and killed him, but he couldn't seem to get out of the
tunnels to look for the man's body to be sure. And then he wasn't
in the cave, he was back in the coal mines of his youth, mining coal
like he'd been the day his town was burned to the ground.

Ranker slept on, drifting from place to place in his dreams, mingling
memories with fantasies..

Jale leaned down and touched the rider's wrist, feeling his pulse,
then nodded and left Ranker to sleep off the drug.

Subject: [DL-W] - Two Miracles in One Night

Day 10
Late Evening
Hatching Sands

[SNIP]

In the end, only two had survived. Chrysthal came forward and took
tem****ary charge of the 2 eggs, while Dalmar and Ari closed up the
incision
in the wilder female. By the time they were done, Dalmar was
exhausted.
"Only two." He said, shaking his head and staring disconsolately down
at the
sand. With a snarl of anger he slammed the point of the scalpel down
into
the sand, then knelt down next to it, one hand gripping it to keep the
exhausted healer upright.

[END SNIP]

Ari went to Dalmar's side and held him for a moment, helping to
sup****t him
and to give him what comfort she could. Her heart raged at the
unfairness of
the fate of the eggs and the little life that struggled within.

"Ya saved them." Ari spoke to Dalmar softly. "Ya performed a
miracle." Ari
whispered her voice in awe of him. "Ya be a hero Dalmar."

She hugged him again for good measure, and went over to where some of
their
equipment and supplies were. She spoke not a word but swiftly made up
a
make****ft bed for Dalmar to rest and still be near the female should
she be
in need.

Ari was tired as well, but; the drama that they had just gone through
had
been carried by Dalmar. Ari had only followed his instructions and
did what
he told her to and when. It was Dalmar who had been burdened with the
fate
of the female and her precious cargo.

Ari returned to where Dalmar was still kneeling in the sand, deep in
thought
and contemplation. Ari went to him and gently pulled him from his
thoughts
and reflections.

"Come and rest Dalmar." Ari gently replied. "I made ya a place ta
rest, ya
be close, but ya need thy rest." She prodded him.

Dalmar nodded and rose slowly with Ari's help and made his way to the
bed
she had made for him. He said nothing to her, for he knew he would
not
sleep. Ari covered him and left him to gather his strength and work
through
his thoughts and feelings.

[TAG- JOHN- if you wish to add any thoughts, feelings or ponderings
from
Dalmar's point of view]

Ari went and sat next to the female, and continued her humming and
gently
massaging this great magnificent creature. She marveled at the beauty
of
her, and the wonder of such raw natural gracefulness. Ari found she
whispered many things to her, mindless banter to help her through this
time
of her own reflection.

Azhy nestled close to her and kept up his continuous stream of love
and
comfort to help soothe her as well.

The large black male nestled close to his mate and was over vigilant
and
peppered Azhy with questions and concerns. He continued to nuzzle her,
almost as if he could will it, she would open her eyes and he would
know she
would be ok.

Ari felt the continuous warm feelings from Firefly and she took a deep
breath and told him what had happened. She shared what she could, and
asked
him to let J'red know she was well.

[TAG- ARLENE- Just what does Firefly and J'red feel about this
development?]

Ari returned to her thoughts and found herself lost in a maze of
questions,
speculations and ponderings while she continued the gentle massaging
of the
female.

Ari was bone tired and longed for a soft warm bed. She found she
wished
J'red would hold her, so she could get lost in his embrace and find
her
strength to go on. Her thoughts flew between wi****ng J'red was here,
to
talk with her, and to what she was thinking and working through.

She was just heart sick at such a loss, and she pondered on what they
had
found. What had caused almost the entire clutch to be in such
different
stages of development and ruin?

The attack alone had not caused this. This was something different.
Something insidious. Something evil. With that thought, she suddenly
felt
chilled to the bone and thought she felt someone.. No; something
watching
her.

<Are you all right? > Firefly interjected with concern as her fear
washed
over him

<*Little one? Are you alright?*> came the instant concern almost on
top of
the one from Firefly.

*Aye, I be fine Az* she responded. *The loss just pains me deeply* she
answered.

*I be well Firefly, just.. Unsettled a wee bit tis all* she replied
not
wi****ng to worry either of them. Not that having J'red near would be
a bad
thing, but she knew he was busy with other im****tant things.

<You know your welfare is very im****tant to my rider> Firefly
interjected in
a soft loving rebuke.

*Aye I know that Firefly* Ari replied quickly *But ya know he be very
im****tant ta the welfare of the warren, and he does not be needin ta
worry
over me as well*

Azhy bent low and nuzzled her to show his love and sup****t. He too
wished
to know how this happened. He had gleaned much information from his
heart
while she struggled with the other human to save the mate of his
brother.
He knew she would ask questions later, when she had rested and her
mind
would begin to try to unravel the secrets.

Ari spent the next few hours while Dalmar rested watching over the
female
and tending to her. She cleaned up the area and the instruments to the
best
of her ability. She kept herself busy, fighting the slow encroachment
of
exhaustion that dogged her steps.

[SNIP]

{*I'm coming home, Nightwind, I'm coming home, let Ari know I have a
wilder
here that will need her attention*} Gob sent to his bond mate.

[END SNIP]

Suddenly she heard Gob! He was coming home! She turned and looked to
Nightwind, who had obviously heard the same announcement.

Ari leapt to her feet and began to make her way to Nightwind when she
stopped in her tracks. What was she to do? She could not leave the
female
so soon, and looking over at the still form of Dalmar, she did not
wish to
waken him.

Again she heard the announcement that Gob was home and with him an
injured
wilder. Ari went to Dalmar and shook him awake.

"Dalmar, I be needed on the Green, I have ta care for another
injured..
Dragon." she finished. She did not want to worry him needlessly.

"Could ya stay close and watch over her? Azhy will stay here as well."

<*I WILL not!*> came the booming voice echoing through out her entire
being.

*Az, I need ya ta* Ari pleaded with her bond mate. *I need ya here ta
help
Dalmar with the female, and ta help your clutch mate not feel so
nervous*

<*Little one, this is a wilder*> Azhy tried to explain.

*Az, YOU are a wilder as well* Ari chuckled warmly

<*Tis different, he never bonded with another*> Azhy answered her, the
concern in his tone evident. <*You could get hurt*>

*I will be safe, Nightwind will be there, as will Gob* she replied and
gathered her things and made her way to Nightwind to rush to the Green
to
meet Gob and welcome him home.

Azhy was torn as to what he should do. He did not wish to leave his
clutch
mate and his female. He knew that he needed to help Ari by watching
over the
other human, who risked much for the sake of a wilder.

Azhy loved his heart with his entire being, but he knew he needed to
alert
Firefly's rider that Ari was going to treat this injured wilder, and
he was
not there to protect her. This was different. This one was a true
wilder,
and from what little Nightwind had shared, he hated all humans.

[TAG- ARLE - Azhy is telling Firefly that Ari is treating the injured
wilder
and there is no one there to protect her other than Nightwind and
Gob.]

Day 11
Past Midnight
Green

As she made her way to the Green, suddenly she heard the alarm go up
from
the Watch and knew that soon the Green would be swarming with people.

Nightwind dropped her close by and Ari ran to the huge dragon that
upon
closer inspection looked seriously injured. Gob sat on him, not
making any
attempt to get down.

"Good to see ya Ari!" Gob called to her. "This here is my friend
WindFree."

{*Ok, big guy, this here is Ari, and she is a dragon healer, and a
wilder
like you!*} Gob explained to the wounded dragon.

Ari watched the interaction between the boy and this wild creature and
she
knew Gob was safe. She stepped forward and in the ways of the
Wilder's she
curtseyed low and gave the formal greeting.

Ari waited for his approval and invitation to step forward to begin a
conversation. She kept her mind as free as she could and hoped her
would
issue an acceptance for her to come closer.

*You have been taught well* the deep voice boomed in her head. *You
may
approach* After what she had thought an eternity of waiting.

Ari haltingly stepped forward to get a closer look and gasped in
horror at
the sight that was before her.

[SNIP]

But, the evidence was there, with the gashes in the body, the torn
membranes
of the wings, the broken talons on one foot and the swollen right eye.

[END SNIP]

Ari cried out both in her mind and vocally as the evidence before her
denounced those who had abused him. She wept openly as she rushed to
his
side, forgetting the protocol.

She noticed some of the purpling effects of the beatings were covered
with
fresher bruises and markings. She tenderly and gently caressed his
sides
and gave him a quick check-over to make sure there was no serious
injuries
that needed immediate attention.

Most of the injuries were serious, but not grave, and most were older.
 She
knew that she might be able to still set the talons to give him some
improvement. The injuries to his wings would take time to heal, there
would
be scarring, but she was confident she could fix it well enough for
him to
fly again, as nature had intended.

As she went over his injuries and cataloged them in her mind, her
emotions
raw and fresh from so much over the past days flowed over and she
shared
with those she had a tight bond with.

*I will be fine Little One* the stern tones of the Dragon came to her.
 *I
will make my way*

Ari began the tune she always hummed, the one that flowed from her as
naturally as she breathed, and WindFree relaxed his stance and alert
as her
deft and agile hands worked their magic.

*I know ya don't trust humans* Ari whispered *I don't be trustin them
much
myself* The only reply was an amused sort of a snort and chuckle.

*I can promise ya on my honor ya be safe here, I will not allow it ta
be
otherwise* she promised.

He did not answer her, not because he did not believe her statement,
he felt
it was not proper for him to answer. He stood his ground in silence
while
this tiny human with a dragon heart poured her care and concern into
him.

{* What did I tell ya!*} bragged Gob as he stayed on top of his friend
more
for his protection and so he would not leave so Ari could heal him.
Gob knew
that now that Ari was here, his friend would get the care he needed.

As Ari was lost in her craft of healing and tending she failed to
notice
that the Green was beginning to fill up with the curious and the
on-lookers.
Gob noticed and knew that soon Pav'lo, Tatiana and J'red would show
up and
begin to demand answers.

[TAG- OPEN to all who wish to see our newest guest courtesy of our
young
Gob. ARLE- I'm sure that Pav'lo and J'red wish to speak to Gob. I'm
sure
that Merissa will send a message to him as well.]

[SUMMARY]

Day 10 - late Evening -Ari helps Dalmar to get some rest while she
helps
with clean up and ponders on many things. While pondering she gets
the call
that Gob has returned and he brought with him a wounded injured
Wilder.

Day 11 - past Midnight -Ari rushes to them and after a slow start she
steps
in and begins the long process of tending him. Azhy contacts Firefly
to
tell his rider that Ari is alone on the Green with the wilder.

I think it's way past time for me to formally resign from World
Weavers.
I would like to help, but I really haven't been able to write in over
a
year. I don't think that's going to change, though I've tried. When
I
married Terran and moved to Abq, my lifestyle just changed in a way
that's
keeping me away from the computer outside of work hours. And I can't
say
that I dislike this new life, though I really miss Weavers and, more
im****tantly, the *people* who make up Weavers. I want to do what I can
to
keep in touch with all of you, but I just can't contribute anymore.

If any of you play the LiveJournal game, I keep a pretty active LJ at
http://www.livejournal.com/users/echoweaver.
 It's sort of replaced
chatting for me, since it's something I can do to connect with people
when
we're not online at the same time.

And I certainly read email. I'd be happy to work with any of you on a
decent way to tie up Iona threads. Especially Matt, since I'm
dropping a
long-running romantic thread that I really wanted to see completed.
