Subject: DL-C: Outcast
Day 7, Early Morning
Trainee Barracks
Cholmon sat and watched as the other trainees gathered for the day's
lecture. She was aware of how the other Nomad trainees often
pretended to
not understand the trainer when he spoke, though of course her
understanding
of the Dragonrider tongue was perhaps better than most. She was also
aware
of the way the other trainees often tried to use their feigned lack of
understanding to avoid the more tedious jobs that they were sometimes
assigned.
Cholmon, however, wasn't any part of it. Actually, she wasn't really
a part
of the trainee group at all. She always sat in the back during the
lectures, never really talking to anybody. Likewise, she went about
the
exercises and assigned tasks diligently, though quietly, always
keeping to
herself and never really saying anything to anybody unless asked a
direct
question, in which case she would answer with a quick, decisive answer
and
get back to her work.
Even in her free time, she largely kept to herself. She practiced the
maneuvers and techniques the trainer taught her religiously, and
worked just
as hard on her swordsman****p; hard enough to be confident that the
next time
she crossed blades with someone of Andahar's skill that she would not
be
mocked, or so easily defeated.
In short, Cholmon was hiding in plain sight. She never caused the
slightest
trouble, and therefore never really attracted any attention. Even the
fact
that her dragon breathed ice instead of fire was not enough to draw
attention now that most of the lessons involving breath were over, and
those
that continued she simply did not attend, and was not missed at.
What really bothered her, however, was the future. Hatred and
vengeance
burned deeply in her soul, and the symbolism of a woman touched by the
goddess of strife riding a winter dragon was not lost on the nomad
girl who
had lost everything a person could possibly lose. She remembered the
day,
not too long ago when she had slaughtered the men of the last tribe to
wrong
her, and how until Andahar came, she finally had felt empowered, as
though
she was fulfilling, rather than fighting her destiny.
As she oiled Param's white scales at the far edge of the cavern, well
away
from the other trainee/hatchling pairs, she wondered just what they
would do
once their training was complete. Already Param was considerably
larger
than all of the other hatchlings, and almost as large as some of the
smaller
adults. He also was far better coordinated than most, with Cholmon's
obsessive attention to training and practice, he was far from helpless
and
could hold his own well at any task given. Someday soon he would be
the
most magnificent of all the dragons.
Cholmon wondered just where their place would be. She could not see
herself
working in a wing, protecting the very people on whom she had sworn
her
vengeance. She did not know.

Scene: Victory Cemetery, January 8 (Night 8 - Thursday)
"You really ought to reconsider."
What a curious thing to say, Jorge thought, and grinned. He took
another
step towards her, the thought of fresh blood on his mind. And yet,
something
felt wrong at the back of his mind.
"Last warning," Geli said. "Try and kill yet another vampire in this
town
and the Prince will know about it before your teeth hit my neck." She
exposed her fangs, and braced herself for combat.
Dazed from the blow to the head, Ann feigned unconciousness while she
took
in the thread of conversation. Not good, not at all good.
'Cripes,' Jorge thought, 'Another fricking vamp, of all the cursed
luck.'
The Samedi paused in his advance, unsure now of what to do. She was
obviously of the Camarilla ... no one else would consider Aramis as
having
power over the city. Jorge's own master, Baron Samedi, would have
something
to say about that.
"Hey now, beautiful," he put his hands up slightly in a show of peace.
"Just
looking for something to tide me over until the weekend."
A groan indicated that the other woman was recovering from his attack.
Keeping an eye on Geli, he glanced over at Ann. "Don't suppose I could
have
a bite?"
Right. This just kept sounding worse. Ann tried to gather her wits and
get
ready to act.
Geli narrowed her eyes and tried to look threatening. "If you'd like
a
stake and sunrise," she replied in her best Herr Professor imitation.
"Perhaps, though, you could put your appetites on hold and try using
your
brain." With a glance along his decaying body, both disgusted and
scornful,
she added, "Assuming it hasn't rotted away."
Jorge's eyes narrowed. "Hey, beautiful, I'm willing to call a truce,
but I
don't take kindly to threats ... especially if I believe you can't
really
carry them out."
Glancing over at Ann, who was unsteadily getting back to her feet, he
tossed
the piece of rock he had over his shoulder and back into the
graveyard. "So,
what, she a vamp too?"
Ann raised her head and smiled at him, a lazy smile that was
infinitely more
confident than she felt. "You'll be much happier not knowing who I
am."
Mentally, although not literally and certainly not literally, she
fixed him
with a steady glare, mustering all the force of her will to master
hers...
it was, after all, one of her strengths. "I'm sure you would be much
happier
if you just walked away right now," she said softly, with a stern
stress on
the last phrase.
"Yeah, probably." Jorge agreed, taking a couple of steps back before
turning. He paused and looked back at the two, then eyed Geli. "A
friendly
word of advice, cute stuff, take the long walk home instead of cutting
through a graveyard. I'm not the only one who likes to prowl around
them."
Geli simply blinked. Was his repeated references to her appearance
some odd
speech pattern? She shrugged. Unim****tant, surely.
Once she was sure he'd gone she turned to Ann. "You all right?"

An Op****tunity Arises
Day 7
Early Evening
Caly glanced up from her desk and ran a hand over her face. She bit
back a yawn and stood to stretch. She'd been in the office all day
working on paperwork and such that Cynthia had given her. Slowly she
walked to the window of her office and looked out. "I think it's time
to
call it a day," she remarked to no one in particular. She had come as
far as she could with her paperwork and needed to speak to Eth'n about
the trainees.
She and Ala'bela hadn't had any training in Jasra, and Cynthia had
mentioned that she might want to join in some of the training sessions
if Eth'n thought she might benefit from them.
She turned from the window, deciding to go look for the trainer. A
smile came to her lips as she thought about Eth'n. Perhaps she could
convince him to have dinner with her. With a bounce in her step
Calylin
headed out in search of Eth'n.
It didn't take her long to find him. He was in the dining hall
drowning
his sorrows in a mug of ale. By the looks of it, it wasn't his first
mug, either. A gaggle of young women were seated at tables nearby
eyeing him speculatively.
He looked up as the chair opposite his was pulled out. He blinked in
surprise as a young girl sat down without even a by-your-leave. Their
eyes met and he realized it was the junior queenrider who had recently
arrived from that far off warren, Jasra. "Calylin? Is there
something
I can do for you?"
Calylin had seen more than her fair share of men drowning their
sorrows
in ale. She figured it was not the time for trainee questions and
instead offered Eth'n a warm smile.
"I was looking for some company and I saw you. I thought perhaps maybe
you needed some company as well."
He chuckled wryly, "Offers of company I have aplenty, offers of
friend****p...." He blinked a bit blearily and realized belatedly that
he might have said the wrong thing and quickly tried to correct his
mistake, "Sorry, that didn't come out like I meant. I ..." He
shrugged
and in a nod of his head he indicated the women that huddled and
whispered together.
Calylin glanced to the women and then back to Eth'n. "Ah." She nodded
and then thought for a moment. She stood and smiled at Eth'n, "How
about a walk?"
"Heh. Yeah, a walk! Great idea. Still a lot of this place yet to
explore." He pushed his chair back a bit harder than he'd intended
and
it skidded and tipped over backwards on the uneven floor. Before he
could reach for it, several of the girls at the table next to his
jumped
up. He quickly left with Calylin as they fought over who would get
the
honor of picking it up for him.
Calylin watched the girls as they left and then shook her head once
they
were outside. "I am not sure I will ever get used to the customs
around
here," she murmured softly as they walked from the dining hall.
She glanced sidelong at Eth'n for a moment before speaking again.
"Sooo... you want to talk about why you are making best friends with
an
ale mug?" She smiled warmly at him.
He laughed, softly, "Well, it isn't so much the customs as the
mind-set.
And just when I thought I had a handle on it... well, let's just say
that I made an ass of myself in front of the new wingleader. She
thinks
I'm totally incompetent and wants to 'help' me come up with a training
plan that will work with the nomad trainees."
Calylin looks thoughtful. "The new wing... oh you mean Rowan? What
happened?"
"She's been hanging around watching the training, and I thought...
well,
she looks like any other nomad woman from what I can tell! Watching
me
all the time.... I mean... Rowan. The name doesn't sound particularly
nomad, you know? So I wasn't expecting.... So, I wasn't taking her
too
seriously when she was making these suggestions, and it wasn't until
about half-way through our conversation that it suddenly dawned on me
who she was." He shrugged helplessly.
Calylin nodded. "So she didn't introduce herself to you when you
started talking? Perhaps she assumed you knew who she was, what
position
she held?"
He laughed, "I was standing right outside *her* office. I'm such a
fool!"
"If you were standing right outside my office and saw me would you
just
assume I was the junior queenrider?" She smirked at him.
He looked at the young girl before him and grinned, "No, you look more
like someone's kid-sister." He was silent a moment before he
murmured,
"Thanks." He felt a huge weight lift from him and he began to enjoy
their little adventure. "So... where shall we wander to? I hear
there
is a spectacular view and a pretty lake a short dragon-ride away."
"Oh that sounds like fun. Let's do that."
Warton was more than happy to comply, especially when he heard how
cold
and deep the lake was. He got the image from the watch dragon when he
informed her where he was intending on going.
They arrived over Lake Azure and were amazed by the crystal clear,
blue
water ****mmering below them. The sun was sinking toward the horizon,
but it would still be a while before sunset. Enough time, Eth'n
thought,
for a swim.
Calylin's breath caught in her throat as she saw the view, and the
water. She glanced over her shoulder at Eth'n and called out,
"Swim?!"
The water looked so inviting and she was sure it had to be cooler than
the air. At the very least she knew it was wetter.
Warton landed near the edge of the lake and Caly slid down to the
ground
from his back. She fondly patted his side and then headed to the
water's edge. Her fingers dipped in and she marveled at how cool it
felt. It took less then a minute for her to strip down and jump in.
Eth'n was unbuckling the straps to Warton's saddle and caught of
glance
of Caly as she bent forward to trail her fingers through the edge of
the
water. He tried not to stare as she dropped her clothes there at the
lake's shore and ran in.
The large maroon dragon didn't hesitate, and as soon as his rider had
removed his saddle he took off, plunging into the lake. His
splashdown
sent a rather good sized wave cra****ng toward the shore.
Eth'n was quick to snatch up Caly's scattered clothing before the wave
drenched them, though his boots and pant legs weren't quite so
fortunate. He pulled those off and hung the pants over a branch to
dry. He also carefully positioned Caly's items so that they wouldn't
get wet if Warton decided to take a second dive.
Eth'n finished stripping and ran to the water to join in the fun. He
was startled by how cold the water was. Water had no business being
that cold in such a hot place! He stopped dead as the water lapped up
his thighs. He gingerly stepped into the water, trying to brave going
up to his more delicate areas.
Caly spun in the water, not being bothered at all by the coolness.
She
turned and saw Eth'n and laughed. There not being a shy bone in her
body, she swam up to him and began spla****ng him.
"The faster you go the easier it is," she laughed as she splashed
water
on him.
He yelled out, turning around, trying to ****eld himself. But he soon
realized it was a lost cause, as she could swim circles around him,
not
caring since she was already wet, and he couldn't defend himself in
any
way. Finally, growling out a warning that she would pay for it, he
dove
into the water and swam straight toward her intent on dunking her at
the
very least.
Calylin laughed and quickly turned and swam off. For a moment it
looked
like she was going to be able to keep away from him, but at the last
second there was suddenly a huge dragon in front of her. She swam
headlong into Warton and Eth'n swam right up to her. Placing his
hands
on either side of her, and against Warton, Eth'n grinned at her.
"Gotcha!" He laughed as her mock-horror at being caught. "Now you're
in
for it!"
Calylin elbowed Warton. "Thanks a lot. You were a big help." Then she
smiled sweetly at Eth'n. "You wouldn't hurt an innocent girl would
you?"
"Innocent?" That gave Eth'n pause. She was so very young. He back
paddled in the water.
Calylin watched him with a raised eyebrow. She half expected he would
dunk her at least. "Are you ok Eth'n?"
"Ah, ummm..." He grinned sheepishly at her. "Yeah... fine." The ale
was leaving him feeling a bit muzzy and he was wondering about his own
judgment.
Caly swam over to Eth'n, her body lightly rubbing up against his as
she
swam around to look at him in the face. "Are you sure. Maybe you
shouldn't be swimming just now?"
"Huh? And just why shouldn't I be swimming?" He kept turning about
to
try to keep from direct contact with her. She was getting him dizzy!
"Will you just stay still?"
"Eth'n what's wrong?" She stopped her swimming and paddled back away
from him a bit. A foot or so away she bobbed in the water, peering at
him curiously.
Even in the very cold water he was beginning to feel a very strong
heat
beginning to build. "Oh, no.... Warton... don't you dare!"
But it was too late. They were swamped by a wave as Warton launched
himself into the air with a loud challenge. The air was alive with
the
call of distant dragons.
Calylin went under as Warton lifted off. As she resurfaced she
glimpsed
the dragon's quickly retreating form. Having never been involved in a
mating flight she had no idea what was going on. "Warton?" She looked
from the dragon to Eth'n and back. "*What* is going on?"
Eth'n wanted to swim away from Caly, but... when she looked toward him
with her large, luminous eyes, all he could do was moan out, "Female
dragon..." and move toward her, desire fueled by his dragon's lust
****ning in his eyes.
Caly's eyes widened as she saw Eth'n headed towards her. Suddenly
flashes of a conversation she'd had with Tara came to her mind.
Something about dragons mating and what happened. Before she had a
chance to think further Eth'n was on her. HE was kissing her as they
treaded water. Calylin only had a moment to think before she was
kissing him back.
Eth'n pulled Caly along with him toward the shallows, kissing her in
bursts, caressing her, and then swimming further, until their feet
were
firmly planted on the sand, as Warton flew among the wild dragons.
Warton was much larger and stronger than his smaller, less well
nourished, wild cousins. But, he was at one disadvantage, he didn't
have the cut-throat skills honed over the life and death struggle in
the
wilds of the Nomadlands. So, while he could out fly the other males
chasing the wild female, he wasn't prepared for the sharp talons that
cut into him and the bruising impacts of the other males.
Eth'n cried out at Warton's unexpected pain. Desire and pain
struggled
against each other in the dragon's mind and Eth'n swayed under their
conflict.
Caly watched Eth'n, slightly fearful at his apparent conflict.
"Eth'n?"
She had no idea if this was what normally happened or not. All she
could do was stand and watch.
Warton roared out in anger. He used his great mass to remove some
competition, by knocking smaller, wild dragons out of the chase. It
was
exhilarating to watch them spinning out of control, sma****ng into rock
walls. None could catch him now. Only she was before him. He would
have her!
Freed from the pain, and sure of the outcome, Eth'n pulled Caly to him
in a cru****ng embrace. "I need you!" He gasped.
Caly gasped and then tugged Eth'n the rest of the way to the shore.
Once they were on the grass she pulled Eth'n to her, kissing him
deeply
and intensely. It was easy for her to get swept up in his desire.
"Eth'n," she whispered as she pulled him to the ground with her.
Warton grasped the female, wrapping his wings about her, forcing them
to
plummet, calling out for her to submit. He was worthy! And he
released
her to land on a ridge top where he took what he had won.
With no clothing to hamper the intense desire building within, Eth'n
crushed Caly to him. His mind screamed that he needed to stop, that
Caly's dragon hadn't risen, and no matter his need, she was not
matching
his desire. But he was being flooded by Warton, and the dragon was
overwhelming his ability to pull himself back.
Caly and Eth'n landed at the same moment as Warton and the female.
Caly
pulled Eth'n to her, pressing another kiss to his lips. Her body was
quickly flush with desire. "Eth'n," she murmured against his lips.
Her
fingers stroked over his back and down to his hips, tugging him to
her.
Her eyes opened and found his, looking down at her. She could see the
conflict in his face. "Take me," she whispered to him.
He needed no further invitation, and as Warton plunged into the wilder
female, Eth'n lowered himself onto Caly. No thoughts interfered with
the pure physical sensations. His thrusts were matched with equal
fervor
and it didn't take long to reach their climax.
But when the first rush was over, he rolled away from Caly, wracked in
guilt. "Damn, damn! Damn HIM! Calylin, I am...so...," he couldn't
tell her he was sorry, because he was not. He looked over at her and
all that came out was, "embarrassed."
Calylin grinned and rolled on top of Eth'n. "Why? Aside from it being
fast it wasn't that bad." She smirked and leaned down to kiss him,
slower and with deep, unfulfilled desire.
He sighed and then smiled between kisses, "Wasn't that bad?" He let
his
hands roam over her, as his own mind once again had command of his
actions. He might have thought of her as young, but he realized that
his impression of her being innocent had been quite a bit off target.
---
Finally satisfied, Caly rolled away from Eth'n and onto her stomach.
She glanced out over the grass and sighed. "I don't think I'll ever
get
tired of watching these sunsets." She glanced at Eth'n and grinned at
him.
As the sun was setting, they realized the chill that came quickly to
the
air, as the breeze raised goosebumps along their still ****d bodies.
They dressed quickly, while Eth'n called to his dragon.
All Eth'n sensed from Warton was that he was rather smug and
satisfied,
and he wasn't about to leave the female he was happily cuddling with.
Eth'n dropped his head to his hands and groaned, "He's not coming.
He's
happy where he is at the moment." This time he could say it, "Caly,
I'm
sorry."
Caly moved to Eth'n and lifted his gaze. "Eth'n you make it seem like
my
spending some time with you is a sentence." Her brow furrows slightly.
"Don't worry about it. Let's make a fire and sit and talk, ok?"
He chuckled, "Talking I can do. I'd make a fire, but... I'm woefully
inadequate when it comes to outdoors skills. Now, if you'd Andahar or
one of the nomad men here, I'm sure they could whip one out of thin
air.
I'm afraid, the only thing I can offer you to keep you warm is... me."
She smiled and wrapped her arms around him. "I find I am growing
rather
fond of you." She then moved to sit with him, watching the last of the
sunset.
"So. Are you going to talk to Rowan again? Perhaps explain the
misunderstanding and your frustration."
He chuckled and shook his head, "Not if I don't have to. But I've a
feeling she'll be giving me those changes whether I want to have them
or
not."
Caly snuggled against him. "Remember that Rowan is there to help you,
not order you. If you disagree with some of her changes then tell
her.
Explain that to her and work out a compromise."
As he contemplated the advice Caly offered, he looked up as he saw
some
dragons flying in the distance. He automatically sent out an inquiry,
and was surprised by the strong rebuff he got for his overtures.
Wilders. "Look at them. So many wilders. I didn't realize this area
was a favorite of theirs. I wonder why none of the warren dragons
mentioned it? I'd feel a lot better if Warton would finish up and get
himself back here!"
Caly gazed out at them, as well. "Do you think we are in danger?"
"From what I've heard, humans don't taste all that great to dragons,
so
unless they are really hungry... or angry... we probably aren't in too
much danger," He assured her.
She nodded and snuggled a bit closer to him. "Do you think it is
normal
that wilders would be so close to a warren?"
"No, at least, not where I'm from, but then... this is Cleft. As I've
found out things here are not always what I expect. Maybe the Cleft
dragons didn't think of mentioning the wilders because they're used to
having them around?"
She nodded as she watched the wilders circle. "I still think we should
say something." She glanced to him. "What's the worst that can happen
if
we are wrong?"
"Yeah, what's a little more ridicule between friends?" He smiled
ruefully, "But, you're probably right. Wouldn't hurt mentioning the
number of wilders there seemed to be out tonight. Of course, come to
think of it, a lot of them might be males that were drawn here because
of that female's rising to mate."
She nodded and smirked at Eth'n. "If it'll make you feel better I'll
say
something and you don't have to."
He laughed, "Sure, but they might wonder how you got out to Lake Azure
by yourself."
"Well I'll tell them you brought me and told me I worry too much." She
leaned and kissed his cheek.
"Hmm..." He wrapped his arm around her protectively, "And what if I
don't worry enough? Fine, you've convinced me. I'll at least mention
it
to Andahar and see what he thinks. I'm sure he'd know if this was a
common spot to see so many wilders."
She grinned and leaned into him. "I'm good at convincing people of
things."
"I could see how that might come in really handy." He grinned, and
pulled her into a long kiss. The night air didn't seem quite so cold.
It was then that Eth'n had the distinct impression of being watched,
and
he felt a warm breath envelope them. Breaking off the kiss he looked
up
at the maroon dragon who was staring down at them, "About time!" he
said
teasingly.
The dragon merely puffed some steam in their direction. Warton had
worked hard to win that flight, and he was determined to enjoy it for
as
long as it lasted.
Caly glanced over and grinned at Warton. "Enjoy yourself, dearest?"
Warton rumbled contentedly, while he waited for his rider to put on
the
saddle. He liked this human female and was glad that his rider hadn't
been alone.
Eth'n finished fastening the final strap and stepped out from under
Warton's gray belly. He nodded to Caly and smiled. "Ready when you
are."
Caly nodded and stood, glancing back over her shoulder at the lake.
She
smiled and then went over to Eth'n. "Let's come back sometime, ok?"
"Yeah. I'd like that."
Eth'n felt his heart soar along with his dragon as Warton took to the
air. Maybe Cleft wasn't such a bad place, after all.
[TAG: Rachel -- still have to have dinner don't they?]

Summary
Day 7
Early Evening
Calylin searches for Eth'n to ask him about training. Instead, she
finds him drowning his sorrows in a mug of ale -- probably not his
first
mug of the evening. They decide to go and explore, and Eth'n suggests
visiting Lake Azure. While going for a swim, Warton responds to the
call of a rising wilder female. Even though he was trying to behave,
Eth'n is overcome by his dragon's involvement with the flight and
moves
in on Calylin. Caly is at first confused, but she gladly responds to
Eth'n's advances. Afterwards, they talk, while waiting for Warton to
return.

Day 5 Mid Evening
It was growing dark as a weary Breezy slowly meandered to the
med-center. Even though she was exhausted her eyes never stopped
scanning her surroundings looking for anything that might be amiss. It
irritated her to no end that the warren defenses were so easily
penetrated and on quite a regular basis. The constant niggle at the
base of her skull that something was amiss didn't sit will with the
small redhead either. The comings and goings of the less scrupulous
was starting to smack at a possible informant on the inside. Hell, it
was hard enough dealing with the enemies they knew about let alone
having to worry about those hidden within the crater wall. Her mind
flitted through her daily list and that of the known warren underworld
but her heart wasn't really in it and she stopped turning to look out
across the warren.
Long fingerlike shadows crept along the cliff face, the dragons
perched on their ledges glowing like bright spots of color in the
dying light. Stars began to twinkle over head as night began it's
lonely march across the sky silhouetting the pale moon as it rose in
the east. Despite the fact it was a balmy night Breezy ****vered
rubbing her arms vigorously to ward off the sudden chill that shook
her small frame.
Seeing black male lying on an outcropping where he could watch the
jail, the Sr. Wingleader's eyes glazed. "Sister, make sure that
Ranker's dragon isn't planning something foolish. Then double check
with the watch." Breezy's mind was silent with her own thoughts for a
moment before the iridescent female answered.
[I explained to him and though Kautivrad is not happy he seems to
understand why his rider must be in the human cage. Twix's rider says
all is well there, too!] Coo answered in tone that sounded like she
wanted to talk.
A small sigh escaped the redhead, followed by a yawn. *Thank you!* She
answered in a tired tone then asked,. *Is your little one well?*
Breezy needed sleep desperately and knew she would probably collapse
soon if she didn't get a few winks. But the need to at least spend a
few minutes with Galen pushed the thought of a soft pillow from her
mind.
The silence that followed had the slender woman turning towards the
hatching cavern her pace slowing when Breezy finally heard her
soulmate's voice. [All is well, but she is a quiet one anyway, unlike
Malani's clutchling Semanj. My queen says he is quite a talker
already.] Curling closer around her egg the sea-green mother used her
fiery breath to warm the cooling sands. Between her own concerns for
her egg and the exhaustion and worry coming from her rider for the
dragon trainer Coo was quite tired herself and only wanted to sleep.
[Sister, go be with your mate! He needs you!]
Breezy blinked at Coo's reference but wasn't about to argue and did an
about face heading back the way she'd come.
[..]
"You look awful!" the trainer clucked softly caressing her cheek with
the back of his hand.
The little redhead pursed her lips in a cocky grin, "Well gee, I'm
glad to see you too!"
"Breezy, you're exhausted! You need to rest!" Galen admonished, his
eyes darkening in concern at her haggard appearance.
Lacing her fingers through his she smiled softly kissing the back of
his hand. "I admit it has been a long day..or two...or is it three
now? I think I've lost count." She wasn't about to tell him she'd
worked through most of last night trying to get as much of the
paperwork done as she could. Between the village complaints and the
murder accusations with Ranker, then the Cyrus situation, the funeral
planning and with the daily workings of the warren on top of it all,
it had piled quite quickly. If she hadn't worked straight through it
would be a total mess by tomorrow. Of course she was paying for it
now.
He eyed her critically, the dark circles under her eyes making her
look even more waif-like then normal. "Felicia stopped by and she's
quite concerned. You know the warren will survive without you for a
few hours."
Pulling a chair closer, Breezy sat and leaned on the bed lacing her
arm around his to gently stroke his shoulder. "Well, with Jeneve down
it's been a bit crazy to say the least, but you know how it goes. Just
a lot of things going on that require attention."
The trainer exhaled slowly and she saw a brief flash of pain cross his
eyes before he looked away, "The funeral?"
"Tomorrow night, we'll light the pyres!"
Galen nodded, "Nash, is going to loan me that wheeled chair of his and
M'lent will at least take me outside."
Breezy's eyes widened in alarm, "Galen, you shouldn't be moving! What
if ..."
His fingers pressed to her lips cutting her off, "Jale has okayed it
as long I take my medicine and we're very careful. Trust me, I've
already gotten the run down on the rules."
"Galen." Breezy implored, sinking back into the chair her blue eyes
filling with worry. "I..."
"You will do what you have to do, and M'lent will be with me! So don't
worry!" Then he grinned, "Take that back, I like when you worry about
me!"
Breezy's eyes began to twinkle and she clicked her tongue in mock
disapproval.
Holding back a wince of pain he reached for her, "C'mere." Rising she
leaned against the bed and he wrapped his good arm around her waist
pulling her closer. "Woman, I swear you're getting skinnier as the
days go by! I think when I get out of here I'm going to have to talk
to Uncle about getting some meat on those bones!"
Breezy sputtered, "I'll have you know my bones are just fine!" Giving
him a coy smile she bent to gave him a light kiss but found herself
being pulled even closer.. His hand wound into her hair holding her
and capturing her lips in a cru****ng kiss that sent tingles all the
way to her toes. "I miss you." He murmured against her lips before
deepening the kiss. For a moment Breezy lost herself in his embrace,
savoring the taste and feel of this man she had come to care so much
about. She missed him too, more then she cared to admit even to
herself. Even though it had only been a few days she missed Galen's
presence terribly. She'd gotten used to him being the first person she
saw in the morning and falling asleep in his arms at night and the
fact that she'd almost lost him was almost more then Breezy could
bear.
Finally releasing her his hand dropped to her thigh, his fingers
lightly stroke in a rhythmic fa****on. Breezy gazed down at him with an
amused smiled. "Well, it's good to see some things are still in
working order!"
"Of course!" he grinned, "I've got to stay on top of things. I hear I
have some competition?"
Breezy tensed her face taking on a wary expression. "Oh yeah, and just
where did you hear that?"
"Oh, a little birdie told me. Said that one of our guests was trying
to steal my thunder and was kissing on the Sr. Wingleader!" Breezy's
eyes widened as he continued the look of innocence in his own not
meeting the sly smile he wore. "But I also heard she was close to
murdering the poor fellow!" The redhead's jaw dropped in shocked
disbelief when he added, "You know that was a good move siccing
Vasklar on him!"
Breezy rocked on her heels, "Jeezus Galen, what are you getting in
here, blow by blow details or something?"
The soldier chuckled, then coughed and winced in pain, but his smile
remained.
Breezy huffed indignantly trying to hide her smile, then waggled her
finger at him, "You and M'lent, I swear, you two, you're like a couple
of gossipy old women when you get together!"
His smile broadened and Breezy inhaled sharply. She loved his smile
the way it lit up his face and always took her breath away. "Listen
you," she said with scolding grin, "I need to go so you can rest!"
The man snorted, "Trust me that's all I've done is rest. If it weren't
for the medicines to help with the pain, I would be going stir crazy."
"Jale, says another day or two and you should hopefully be able to get
out of here *if* you promise to be good and don't overdo. He doesn't
want you tearing the stitches, some of those wounds were pretty deep.
Now get some rest and I'll be back in the morning!" Galen arched a
brow and started to say something but Breezy cut him off raising her
right hand, "I solemly swear to get some sleep. I've just got a few
re****ts.."
It was out before she realized she'd said it and the warm ebony eyes
turned hard. "I don't want you to go. Stay with me!"
"But Galen..."
The trainer bit his lip holding back a grunt of pain as he moved his
body over making room for her. As thin as she had gotten, she didn't
need much room anyway.
"Oh no, nonononono! I don't think so! I'm not taking any chances on
you tearing open your wounds! Jale would have my hide!" She quipped
firmly with a little sigh trying to ignore how inviting that open
space next to him looked.
"Stay with me, just for a little while." He whispered in a raspy tone.
"I promise to be good and rest!" Faking a yawn he smiled, "You can
fill me in on what I'm missing until I fall asleep."
Breezy giggled trying to ignore his yawn but failing as she covered
her own yawn, "Can't say I've ever had a man ask me to talk him to
sleep before! Not sure whether that's a compliment or not?" A war of
wanting to go and wanting to stay shown clearly on her face. When
Galen yawned a second time the decision was made. "Okay, but only for
a little bit and if you even breathe wrong I'm out of here!"
"I promise to be good." Galen answered folding both arms across his
chest in a somewhat comfortable position. As much as he would've liked
to have held her properly he knew it wasn't possible just yet. "Tell
me about the fire?"
Breezy chuckled and shook her head carefully stretching out next to
the trainer and watching his face carefully for any sign of
discomfort. She knew he was hurting, and she knew he would hide it so
she would stay away from the office. Her over working was a bone of
contention between them but for now she would give in, mainly because
she was too tired to argue about it and Jale had warned her about
upsetting him. Gingerly snuggling against Galen she lightly laid her
cheek on his arm with her own draping lightly across his chest ato
avoid the bandages. The warmth emitting from his body had her eyes
drooping almost instantly. Blinking Breezy began to talk knowing if
she didn't she would fall asleep. Her line of chatter lasted all of
two minutes before her voice faded, "He's an insolent...arroga... I
.... Jeneve..de...fend...im...
A knowing smile came to the trainer's face, he knew there wouldn't be
a problem with outlasting her as he hurt too much to sleep anyway. But
the aide would be making her rounds soon bringing with her a blissful
relief.
Day 6 Pre-dawn
It was an hour before dawn when the door to Jocko's room burst open.
"Okay Teach, up and at'em!" Breezy quipped gaily feeling more rested
then she had in days. Six hours of uninterrupted sleep cuddled against
a guy she was crazy about did wonders for a girl's mood and it showed
in her glowing eyes..
The young scholar jumped up almost falling out of the narrow cot and
he struggled with the blankets to get his glasses on.
"Wh.what's wrong?" Jocko stammered his eyes having problems focusing.
"We're going on a trip! Bring a jacket it's a little chilly out! Meet
me on the green in 10 minutes! And bring a bag to carry things in!"
The Sr. Wingleader disappeared down the hall leaving Jocko to gape at
the empty doorway.
[..] 10 minutes later
Breezy and Loki stood next to a huge boulder as Jocko approached and
the young man started in surprise when it turned to look at him with
curious eyes.
"Why...it's.. it's.a..." the blonde searchling exclaimed gaping at the
boulder turned dragon.
"This is Sentinel and his rider Loki!" Breezy smiled, both riders
chuckling at the young man's surprise.
"He's not a chameleon or anything, but his color blends in well with
the landscape, don't you think?" Loki smiled.. Just then a large red
and blue dragon set down nearby and the Alpha Wingleader dismounted,
his long strides crossing the short space between them.
"Ready to go?" K'tarr asked.
"Loki and K'tarr are giving us a lift to the Whispering Cave I told
you about." The redhead said with a smile. "Since I have a full day
ahead of me we have to go now while it's still quiet! You ride with
Loki!"
At the mention of the Cave, Jocko instantly perked up and he didn't
need a second invitation to scramble up on the grayish-brown dragon.
[..] A few minutes later at the Whispering Cave
The guards stationed at the cave acknowledged the arrival of the
foursome and after a few words with the men the small group entered
the cavern. As they moved through the rocky tunnel Breezy quietly
explained different things to the young man as to who found the cave
and a little about what they had learned so far. Emerging into the
open area that contained the underground waterfall and luminescent
pool Loki and K'tarr moved to light several torches placing them
around the room. Jocko's eyes widened at the magnificent paintings
adorning that walls that appeared in the firelight. Moving closer the
young man walked around the room staring at the different images
oblivious to all else
Stopping at one in particular he gazed up at the beautiful woman
depicted in great detail, her coppery colored hair flowing around her
like a fiery halo. Breezy stepped up next him gazing up at the image
almost reverently. She sighed sadly, "That's Jasmine, but yet that's
not Jasmine. But for all intents and purposes you're looking at her."
Jocko looked at the Sr. Wingleader with a puzzled expression and his
gaze followed her hand as she pointed to another. Moving to inspect it
more closely his eyes widened in surprise and he turned to stare at
the Alpha Wingleader his head swiveling back and forth between the man
and the painting.
Breezy cleared her throat and Jocko looked at her with questioning
eyes. "Yeah, we know! The resemblance is just a bit too much of a
coincidence. Galen and I think the answer might be in the scrolls.
There's part's of them we don't understand and can't make heads or
tails of and still more here we haven't even brought out yet.. That's
why I wanted to bring you here, to look around a little, I thought it
might make it easier for you. She wasn't sure if it was awe Breezy saw
written on the young man's face, but it was definitely a positive look
and that's all she needed. "C'mon there's more to see!"
Jocko turned just as K'tarr appeared to walk right through one of the
walls and he gasped in surprise. Breezy chuckled then grew serious.
"Here, load yourself up with torches, you'll need them!" She said,
stuffing several in the pack he carried. "Don't wander off the path
and you stick right with us, it's easy to get lost in here! This place
is like a giant maze and a lot is still unexplored yet! This place is
filled with all sort of crazy traps, and whatever you do, 'don't' lean
on the walls!"
