Subject: [WoD- WEB] - JP - Crossing the Line

Day 20
3am

[SNIP]

Deliberately, he moved inside that boundary that the shadowy creature
had
marked out, knowing that he'd be sensed and challenged eventually.
What
better way to find out whom he was than directly from the source?

[END SNIP]

Lucien had just returned to the sanctity of the garden when his senses
told
him the parameter that he had just established had been breached. He
leaped
over the wall and began a quick sweep of the surrounding buildings
closest
to the Chosen One first. She was the important issue here.

He sniffed the air, and caught the scent immediately, and it appeared
to be
stationary. This supposed target might well be the snare in which to
try to
trap him.

Lucien hunkered down and made a quick sweep of the first ring of
protection
he had established for her. He then moved in meticulous form in a
seemingly
random pattern to ensure that each ring of the widening circle was
devoid of
anything that would be a harm to her.

He sensed and smelled the interloper. He was.not as he seemed. Lucien
slowly made his way to where this intruder stood, waiting. He studied
him
and did not sense evil; at least not the evil that concerned him.

Lucien was also aware of being in the presence of another powerful
being.
One who, like himself, was use to doing what he wanted when he wanted.
Lucien prepared for what ever may come and stepped out from the
shadows to
let him know he was here.

[SNIP]

After a while, Kayn sensed a presence behind him and grinned to
himself.

"Took you long enough." He remarked casually, cracking his knuckles as
he
turned around to confront the arrival. "I do apologize for
interrupting
your rest though."

[END SNIP]

Lucien stood still and studied the creature before him. That he
appeared as
a man did not surprise him. He did not take his true form unless
there was
no other way, or to bring justice upon the unrighteous. He always gave
his
victims the right to see whom it was who took their life essence. Part
of
the power he gleaned from them in their last moments was their total
craven
fear.

"You were not deemed a viable threat, merely a curiosity." Lucien
grinned in
retort, altho the grin looked more like a sneering grimace. The hint
of mild
amusement laced heavily in the tones.

"You seek me. Why else would you have stepped into MY territory."
Lucien
sniffed the air slightly and then grinned again. This time less
sneering,
but the hint of a threat still hung in the air.

"You were the one in the shadows, watching. What brings you here?"

Kayn shrugged and grinned. "I was curious." He said nonchalantly.
"A dark
shape moving through the night disposing of evil.why, I'm surprised
you
aren't wearing Lycra."

A low growl escaped from Lucien's throat as he paced back and forth.
The
two of them not quite circling each other but certainly keeping their
distance.

"You're taunts are wasted on me." He said in a dismissive tone.
"Remember,
curiosity killed the cat."

"Oh, yes." Kayn agreed with a nod, "But you see, I'm the one who
kills the
cat." He grinned viciously.

"I sense you are the protector of the one I am I interested in.
Playing
watchdog are you?"

Lucien growled deeper as he heard what he perceived as an open threat.

"Shouldn't you be sitting on her front porch and growling at the
postman?"

Kayn taunted again as he watched the flash of emotions whip across his
opponent's face, to vanish as tho there had been no response.

Lucien knew he was being baited, but until he knew why he would stay
the
course. The Chosen One was all that mattered, and she must not be
discovered before all the safety nets were in place. She must not be
disturbed until she had grown more in her power. She was at a
tentative
state, and she too had not grown to depend and trust him fully yet.

Until she did, she was in danger. Until they were connected and one
with
each other could he safely watch over her. Her continued to pace back
and
forth, not as agitated as the one who watched him.

"I'm no lap dog." He snarled back at Kayn. "Nor am I a wolf in
sheep's
clothing."

Lucien took a step closer, to close the gap between them. IF this was
to go
down with a fight Lucien wanted to be closer.

Lucien did not feel that much of a threat to his lady. But, he did not
want
this wolf lurking in the shadows watching and possibly disturbing his
lady.
Best to nip this little irritation in the bud right now. They had
much more
important issues to concern themselves with than with this dandy of a
lothario.

"Again I ask, WHAT is your business. If it is only for curiosity,
then you
have used up your time."

"Really?" Kayn raised one eyebrow in question. "Now, what pray tell do
you
mean by that?" He took his hands out of his pockets and let them hang
loosely at his side; his eyes fixed on Lucien.

The air grew thick between them, as if they had both thrown a switch
and
upped some unseen charge.

"My business is my business." He growled softly. "A wolf gives no
reason for
his actions, he simply does. YOU may have power, but in reality you
are no
more than a puppy. Be thankful that I am the one who sought you out."

Lucien sneered his contempt he felt for this interloper who had no
clue to
what he was, or how many like him before had met the Gods due to his
hand.

"The other beings in this city may not be so understanding." Kayn
finished
simply watching the swirling emotions race across his features and
settle
into a controlled glare.

"I care not for the others." Lucien snapped back. "If they transgress
MY
boundaries, then they will face the consequences."

"Oh.so confident are we?" Kayn smirked. "Perhaps someone should
educate you
as to what the real world is like." He frowned with that thought. "You
are
far from being powerful enough to stand alone and survive." He took a
step
forward, closing in on the space between them.

"Do you wish to risk the one you protect and find out?" He grinned
maliciously.

Lucien weighed the creature's words and the meaning behind them. They
were
wise words and good advice. He did not know why he was so edgy this
night.
Too many signals and warning bells going off in his head.

It had been some time since he had to deal with this level of evil and
the
deepness of which the populace had become tainted with that evil. And
this
time the Chosen One was a true paradox. For altho she had suffered
much at
the hands of the one who was cursed for all time, she still had
maintained a
deep level of innocence.

His lady had not been sequestered away all of her life. She had lived
it and
enjoyed it, and had stumbled upon the evilness by accident. She had
gone
innocently pleading for understanding, and been taught a horrible
lesson.
And yet she was, not changed by it for the most part. Lucien looked
back to
the one who stood before him readied, but not yet committed.

Lucien caught just a hint of it on the soft breeze and growled
menacingly
towards the one standing before him.

"Brought your back- up I suppose" he accused.

Kayn sniffed the air and growled himself, an annoyed look on his face.

"Hardly." He retorted. "I hate people interrupting private
conversations."
Kayn glared at Lucien. "This is what I told you. If you expose your
power
openly, it will attract others. Now, we can't have any fun."

Kayn shrugged and relaxed his shoulders, dropping his hands into his
pockets, the sense of energy and power that had surrounded him a
moment
before disappearing like dispersed mist.

"There is more skill in hiding your power than shouting it to the
world you
know." He flicked his hair out of his collar and turned his back on
Lucien.
He sighed heavily, gazing out over the city.

"Go back to your mistress." He said over his shoulder. "I don't doubt
we'll
meet again sometime soon."

Lucien growled deeply and slipped back into the shadows. He did not
stay to
see if this creature spoke the truth, or if this had just been the
meeting
of the minds, testing each other's defenses.

Lucien took great care to keep in the shadows and let them work with
his
natural state and being. There would be no way for them to trace him
back
to her. He moved as if one with them and soon he was back over the
wall,
just settling in for his meditation time when he heard her sweet
voice,
softly calling to greet the day and ask for the strength and wisdom to
do
their bidding.

He vowed with a fierce determination he would not fail her. He had
not been
prepared for the depth of evil that had taken over this place. Nor,
the
numerous beings that now walked the streets as open and without fear.

Things had indeed changed. Never in all of his lifetimes would he
have
believed that such evil would be an everyday occurrence. He would
take the
creature's advice, and re-think his battle plan.

For that is what it was; a battle. And the only one who was not
expendable
was his Lady. His Lord Anpu had faith in him to see that all would be
well,
and that the Chosen One would remain safe and strong to do that which
she
had been chosen for.

Everyone and thing, including himself was expendable. He turned
within to
finish his meditation and to seek the council of his mentor and
master. He
did not see the soft morning light slowly inch its way across the dark
patio
and wash the doors and windows in its soft rosy hues.

[TAG - Michael - so is Kayn going to go see who interrupted his fun?
TAG -
Chris - any wolves out there ?]

[SUMMARY]

Kayn and Lucien meet and taunt each other with veiled threats both
trying to
study the other and learn what they can. Just as Lucien is ready to
prove
his power and strength he senses others of similar ilk to Kayn near.
He
accuses him of cheating and they part ways. Kayn resumes his more
human
part.
Lucien double checks everything and makes his way back to Kysen's
residence.
Lucien ponders this night's events and meditates to his lord and
master.

Freda moved out with her security team, pissed. The way the XO was
treating her
and her people, like the traditional fresh meat of the past, was
really
beginning to irk her. She'd have to make a correction of that once off
the away
mission and when there was a chance. Granted, she was no KTKT Lee, but
she had
been trained by Calerk who had trained Lee (or had Lee trained him,
she was a
bit unclear on that part when it down came to Chiefs and LTs) and one
thing
learned was that Security wasn't cannon fodder!

Day 7
Morning
Training Field

Tatewin had been up early as usual, and she and Tatezi had already
completed
their morning ritual, along with their morning hunt and meal. Tatewin
really cherished this special time with her bond sister. They seemed
to
grow closer with each day. And, altho Tatewin still felt lonely and
unsure
of herself when surrounded by the large amounts of people, she was
slowly
settling in.

Altho the others in the hatchling barracks had also grown closer to
their
roommates and the others in the group, Tatewin still kept mostly to
her
self. Her roommate was as non-talkative as she was. Tatewin had many
questions, but followed the old ways and teachings. She would not
ask, and
if she should volunteer, then perhaps a friendship could arise.

But, this had not happened, and so Tatewin clung to her bond-sister
and
together they proceeded to learn their lessons, do their chores and
assignments.
She had hoped with the return of their trainer, and the settling in of
everyone that the talk of the young chieftain's clothes would
disappear and
a new topic found and dissected.

Now she sat in her usual place just away from the general gathering of
the
trainees and waited for their lesson to begin. Slowly the area filled
with
people, some staying for the lessons, others to chat until it started.
Tatewin watched as Andahar strode up and stood in his usual place.
She
watched him from the corner of her eye as he took his time perusing
the
scene before him, his face drawn up in a curious squint as if he tried
to
work out a problem, or was pondering on important matters.

Tatewin leaned back to make sure she was not in his line of sight.
She
turned slightly and closed her eyes to spend some quiet moments with
Tatezi.
She loved the feeling of never being truly alone again; to have that
constant connection, the constant feeling of love and companionship.
She
had not realized how lonely her world had been before Tatezi had been
given
to her.

She looked up when she heard the tittering and cooing of some of the
girls
as she watched their trainer approach. He was a handsome man, but she
just
did not see what the big deal was about him. She was sure had she
been
involved more, she might have known their secret agenda.

She turned to pay attention to his words and concentrate on them. She
tuned
out the rest of the noise as best she could.

[SNIP]

Instead he launched into his lecture about gliding. He wanted to
stress
dragon safety first and foremost. No flapping. Only gliding.
Landing
should be in the soft sands at the end of the training field.

He watched as the young dragons climbed up the low rise that
overlooked the
lower green. He hoped the training session went well that day.

[END SNIP]

She listened carefully to his words, and nodded that she understood.
She
heard the rest of the girls begin to plot and plan, to have fun with
this
exercise. She shook her head and fell into line with the others as
they
made their way up the incline.

Once at the top the young chieftain was there, to help them all with
this
training exercise and to make sure they all knew what needed to be
done.
Tatewin keep her back to him the whole time and knew that with so many
clamoring for his attention, he would not notice her.

The first few that went did amazing well, the take off was not the
problem,
it appeared to be the landing. He had mentioned the soft landing, but
from
what Tatewin could see, it did not look too soft to her.

*I'm worried my sister* Tatewin confessed.

<*I shall be fine my sister heart, we have practiced this, our morning
ritual has helped me. I shall show them all*> she spoke calmly to
soothe
her. She hoped she was right, but for now it mattered to have her
rider
calm. She had been way too tense and almost afraid of her own shadow
and
she did not understand why.

Tatewin nodded and waited their turn. She had been pushed forward and
many
still wanted to stand around and talk and thought this exercise silly
and
pointless.

Andahar stood quietly watching over the trainees and altho did not
appear to
be paying any of them attention, he was very alert to what was being
said
and what was going on.

"Greeting Chief Andahar" a smoky velvet voice tickled his ear. He
turned to
find himself standing face to face with the new Wing Leader.

"Rowan" he answered and turned back to face the trainees and those
that were
trying to go down the small incline. He resumed his stance with his
arms
resting behind his back.

He watched her study the trainees and could tell from her facial
expression'
she was not pleased with what she saw. "It is always this
disorganized?"
she questioned softly.

"It is better today." He answered not taking his eyes off the
procedures.
He stepped forward and helped Tatewin with Tatezi and he motioned for
her to
step back so that Tatezi would take off on her own.

Tatewin nervously stepped where she was told and went to the edge of
the
inclined to watch her sister heart and send words of encouragement to
her.
Some of the young hatchlings had done rather well, everyone seemed to
have
great take-offs, but it was the landings that were not so graceful.

Rowan eyed the young nomad girl and studied her outline and frame.
She too
was of mixed heritage, and yet she carried herself as if from the
deepest
desert.
She heard a cheer rise out over the field and she looked up to see the
curry
colored dragon gliding like she had done it all her life. She was a
beautiful dragon, both in color and shape and she promised to grow
into
magnificent creature once she had filled out.

Everyone watched as Tatezi rode the soft thermals. She reveled in
this
newly discovered thrill, and altho they had tried it from smaller
places to
help her with her wing development Tatezi had no idea how glorious it
was.

She rode the soft air currents and dipped and glided slowly lower and
lower
as she neared the ground she let another puff of air lift her and
carry her
out over the water of the river.

Tatewin seeing her bond-mate precariously close to the water cried out
her
name and dashed down the hill towards the water to try to help her
land, or
be close when she hit the water.

Rowan watched with interest as this young hatchling rode the thermals
with a
natural grace. She watched the reaction of her rider and she smiled.
She
would make a good addition to her wing. She made a mental note to
remember
her.

She glanced over to Andahar as he too watched with a smile on his face
as
the little dragon soared and glided so well. He recognized her, from
their
morning training, and he smiled to know that they had done so well.

"We need to talk Andahar, how about later this afternoon?" she asked.
"After it begins to cool."

[TAG-ARLE - Andahar ready for his conference with his new
Wing-Leader?]

As Eth'n stood and watch the small yellowish dragon glide with such
ease his
heart swelled with pride. At least someone understood the things he
had been
teaching. His glance went up to the rest of his class to see if they
were
excited about this as he was.

He quickly looked away, for standing there next to Andahar was the New
Wing
Leader, and she was obviously talking to Andahar about him and his
teaching.
He had also noticed many of the trainees were circled around and
chatting
and not even paying attention. He shook his head and turned back to
watch
as the little yellow dragon moved out over the water.

Suddenly he was afraid for her and he began to rush towards the shore
to try
to help her land in safety.

[TAG-ARLE- if you wish to add to this]

Rowan stood stoically next to Andahar and she too appeared to be
watching
the small drama below. Rowan listened carefully until she knew the
measure
of the small group of girls who seemed to be only interested in
chatting and
mischief. She remembered those types when she had spent that summer
with
her mother and her new mate.

She smiled and nodded to Andahar and made her way down to where
Tatewin and
Eth'n stood by the waters edge. There was a small crowd forming, and
some
realized the little dragon need space to land and began to push people
back
to she could.

Tatewin had been having non stop comments from her bond mate and the
happiness that flowed through her from the sharing of such a wondrous
experience made Tatewin blush and even glow a bit as her eyes sparkled
with
love and pride for her.

Tatezi was beginning to tire, and altho she wanted to land to rest,
part of
her did not wish to leave the wonderful feeling of this behind her.
Her
wings began to ache and she steeled herself to land with dignity so
her
rider would be proud.

<*Watch me sister heart, I shall land as one of the people*> she
bragged.

Tatewin so worried laughed out loud and received several stares as to
what
she could think was so funny. Rowan stood behind watching the scene
with the
3, the trainer, the dragon and her rider.

Slowly, slowly Tatezi lowered to almost touching the ground. She had
banked
slightly and was now appearing to head back out over the river.

She was obviously being talked to by another dragon, and so suddenly
her
little legs poked out and she skidded along the soft sand of the shore
and
she stopped right at the river's edge and she plopped forward with her
nose
dunking in the cool water.

<*My that made me thirsty!*> she told her rider and the others.

Tatewin rushed to her and hugged her tightly so relieved to have her
back on
the ground

*Well done my sister* Tatewin boasted with pride.

Suddenly she was surrounded by many that praised the little dragon,
and how
well she had been trained. Tatewin was overwhelmed with such an
out-pouring
and she stood nervous and clung to Tatezi for the strength to endure
the
sudden sharing of feelings.

Rowan watched with interest and made her way to the scene, once most
of the
people had returned to their spots to watch the rest of the hatchlings
with
their gliding lesson.

"Well done trainer." She replied to Eth'n and smiled and then turned
to
complement the young rider.

"Very well done little one." She patted Tatezi and nodded her head and
made
her way back to her office. She wanted to spend some time preparing
for her
meeting with Andahar, and she needed to get in some personal time with
her
sister heart as well.

[TAG- To anyone who wishes to witness Tatezi's first glide]

[SUMMARY]

Day 7
Early morning- Tatewin awakens and spends special time with Tatezi and
then
awaits their morning lesson. They are told they will practice gliding
today
and Tatewin worries about it as she noticed Andahar and tries to stay
out of
his way. Rowan also appears to watch and study the group of trainees.

Tatezi gets off the ground and finds a few soft gentle breezes to ride
and
enjoys her first ride. She gets some help to land and she lands softly
and
plops her nose in the river.
