Day 1, Morning

As Eliase went off to get Tara's message to Tara, Hsina turned to the
warrenlady and said "You must conceal yourself."

"I'll not hide" Tara replied.

"I didn't say to hide, I said to conceal yourself. We all know who
you are,
but the only Kataani out there who does is Oga, and he won't get too
close
unless he thinks the battle is almost over and his side victorious."

Tara again gave Hsina a quizzical look.

"Put on a servant's robe and then dirty yourself in the kitchen. The
main
kitchen has only one entrance through the dining hall and is easily
defended, making it an excellent command post. If the Kataani do make
it
inside, just keep your head down and cook something. With your link
to your
queen, you don't need to be an easy target, and you are the one who
lectures
me about leading from behind, so why not practice what you preach?"

"And what about you?"

Hsina drew the massive broadsword in her right hand and the slightly
smaller
shortsword in her left and smiled. "I am Hsina Amman, High Priestess
of
Nina, vizier to kings Sargon and Ashurbanipal, conqueror of Babylon
and
Media." She looked down for a second before locking her gaze with the
warrenlady's. "I must lead from the front, by example. I hope you
can one
day forgive me."

Before Tara could reply, Hsina lept off the platform and ran at a full
sprint toward the assembled group of Grouty's veteran soldiers. Tara
stood
on the platform for a moment longer as she saw Hsina and the two
sergeants
confer, then just as they had practiced over and over again, the small
company of soldiers split into 10 small squads and moved to the
various
defenses they had set up in and around the warren.

Hsina herself moved to the beach where the first line of Kataani were
coming
ashore, while Keeza and the land dragons assigned to the bay began
blasting
fire, or steam in Keeza's case, into the water, boiling alive the
unfortunate soldiers too far from their lines, and not close enough to
the
beach.

Forty of the soldiers decided it was better to swim for the beach than
the
longer distance back to their ranks, but they were badly burned doing
so.
Hsina walked easily up and down the beach fini****ng off any Kataani
still
breathing as they washed up on Jasra's shore, killing all forty in a
matter
of a few minutes. They were easy pickings, as most of them could
barely
move by the time they stepped foot on the the beach.

Day 101

Early Morning

It was the sound of a cricket that woke him up; it was still dark. A
slight
chill hung in the air. As he got up he tucked the fur cover around
Weya as
she still lay sleeping. He dropped to his knees and lightly kissed
her on
the forehead.

He was heading out for a patrol, so with a quick stop by his sister's
to
check on her, he headed to the dining hall for a bite to eat and
something
warm to get him going.

*How is my big green beast? * Dante asked as he walked out on the
Green
putting on a vest.

[Ah, Fine. Ready to fly?] Jacks said with a stretch of his wings.
Dante
then checked all the straps on the saddle and hopped on. They were
off.
The cool morning air bringing tears to both their eyes.

As Jacks wings went up and down Dante concentrated on the sound and
feel of
the heartbeat along with the beat of his wings.

[So, my brother, how has Weya been?] Jacks broke the silence.

*Oh, fine, She has been practicing her archery, and I am sure that she
will
begin on her hunting soon. She has been restless. *

[Yes, I have sensed that in her as well. I am sure it has been hard
for her
being cooped up for so long.]

*Yeah, she's getting a lot better*

[I am glad to hear she is getting better.]

Jacks turned in a long slow lazy glide and began to head in a
different
direction. It seemed that it was going to be a slow day. There had
been
some activity from the creatures, but lately there hadn't been too
much,
which worried Dante. He and Jacks both knew what they were capable of.
He
wondered if they were trying to lull the Warren into stepping down
their
preparedness. This was one of the many reasons why he and Jacks were
up
here again. They continued their flight around the Warren and checked
out
all their check points to make sure everything was in order and there
had
been no breach.

AFTERNOON

*Break time* Dante told his bond mate. Jacks nodded and headed down
towards
the green, gliding in nicely and made a soft landing. As soon as
Dante
hopped off and removed the saddle, Jacks was off to find a nice snack,
and
perhaps find a cuddle mate or two.

Dante stopped by the Dining Hall to see if perchance Weya had gone
there for
her mid-day meal. She was not there, so he grabbed some snacks for an
impromptu picnic and took off towards her room in the searchling
barracks.
He went into the barracks and headed towards her little alcove he had
created for her. He knocked on the wall by the curtain that gave her
the
privacy she needed. He waited and pushed open the curtain and saw she
was
not there, and it appeared she had not been back since she joined him
yesterday. He was puzzled, for he was sure she would have been around
by
now.

"She left early this morning." A youthful voice piped up from behind
him.
Dante turned around and pulled the roll from his mouth.

"Do you know where she went?" he asked the redheaded boy. He
recognized him
as one of the twin boys he had helped, but could not remember his
name.

"Don't know, she left early this morning." The boy replied eyeing the
food
that Dante carried with him.

"You know, you need to do something about her screaming." The boy
replied
evenly.

Dante looked at him in shock. "Her screaming?" he asked confused.

"Yeah, some nights she wakes us all up, with her screaming"

Dante did not like hearing this, and wondered why she had not
mentioned this
before. He had thought her nightmares of the attack had gone away,
and she
was over them.
Without a second thought, he handed the plate of food to the boy and
turned
to leave.

"Here, take this."

"But.I'm not hungry." But it was too late; Dante was already heading
out
the door to find Night. A bit later after going to all of the places
he
felt she might be he reached the edge of the Green.

By this time Night had joined him and was anxiously sniffing at the
ground
and making soft whimpering noises. Dante rubbed his head and patted
his
side and then knelt down with a piece of material that held her scent.
 He
let Night get a good whiff of the scent.

"Alright Night, Find her boy! Go find her!" he whispered to him as he
held
the piece of the cloth to his nose.

Night let out a howl and was off. Her scent was still very strong and
he
raced across the large grass field and through some sparse underbrush.
Dante
ran behind him and did his best to keep up.

Night ran and ran until he stopped suddenly, for her scent was gone.
It was
as though she had vanished, and Night ran back and forth trying to
find it
again. Nothing. Night growled and sat down right where the scent had
ended.

Dante caught up to him and stopped beside the wolf. He heard the
whimper
and again rubbed his head.

"It's ok boy.it's not your fault." He looked up into the sky. For
the
scent to just end, she had to have flown. A sudden fear struck him,
what
if.. those things took her? They had riders now! He narrowed his
eyes.
Omar. He pondered if he should turn around and call for help or
continue to
search for her.

Night suddenly howled and was off like a shot. The suddenness of this
made
Dante jump and he watched for a second as the white wolf took off
across the
blackened earth.

The chard remains of the land were under foot. It had been a good
idea to
make this ring of protection for everyone. The devastation was more
than
Dante thought possible. It must have been hard for the Duchess to
order it.

Both crossed the blackened land and Night with a head start ran into
the
woods just ahead. Dante stopped as Night ran into them and was
swallowed
up.

[Don't follow him] Jacks said. The Dragon was sitting on a cliff and
watching.

*She.she could be in there*

Jacks curled his lip and then opened his wings while giving a small
hop and
in seconds he was gliding and landing next to Dante.

[I'll sit here] he answered.

Dante patted his hide and ran in to follow after Night. He could see
in the
shadows that Night was standing there waiting for him. Dante smiled
with
relief and as soon as Dante had reached him he darted to his left and
went
back out of the woods again. He stood there for a moment, his ears
perked
up and his snout in the air. He was picking up the scent from the
wind.

[Well, that didn't take long] Jacks joked with Dante.

Night then went back into the wooded corpse and Dante had trouble
keeping up
with him, altho he did the best he could. Night now on the trail
again,
began to run faster and faster, and Dante was not able to keep up the
speed
that Night was, nor was he able to leap over logs and duck under
fallen
trees as easily as Night.

The brush and bushes slapped Dante in the face and beat against his
limbs as
he tried to hurry his way through to not loose sight of Night. Briar
and
prickle bushes grabbed and torn at his clothing along with leaving a
few
marks against his face and exposed skin. Soon he lost sight of Night
altogether as the light grew darker and the brush appeared to become
denser.

"Nightbreed!" he yelled, hoping to call him back.

*  *  *

Meanwhile Weya was enjoying the quiet of the woods and taking in the
sights,
sounds and smells of the woods. This was her beloved home. It had
been too
long since she had enjoyed such simple pleasures. After the first
initial
shock of that woman staring her down and ogling her and having to be
so near
to her, she had found her sense of self and balance in her woods.

She gave up to the day of just enjoying being in a woods, where there
were
no creepy feelings, no silence, nothing but life brimming and the
happy
noisy sounds that made up her world.

She did notice the types of wild life that inhabited within and made
note
that she would have to made it part of her daily routine to come here
to
begin her training, and slowly work herself back up to being the
huntress
she once was.

As she knelt at a clear stream to partake of some of the cold water
suddenly
she was knocked over. As soon as the scratchy wet tongue began to
lick her
and she could not stop the giggling she knew who it was.

"Night!" she giggled as she playfully tried to move him off of her.
He
seemed determined to keep her on the ground and in one spot. She
wrestled
with him and nuzzled him back and he enjoyed it for a bit, but then
went
back looking through the brush as if expecting someone.

"What is it Night?' she asked curiously. Moving to get up. "Be there
somethin in there?" peering closer to the large opening in the brush.
Night
seeing her up and ready to go began to try to pull her into the brush.

"Night!" she chuckled at his more insistent pulling. "Night? Be there
somethin wrong?" she asked beginning to grow worried. Dante! Her
thoughts
rushed to her heart and she gasped and began to run. Night followed,
and
then passed her up and led her through the brush and small clearings.

What could have happened? She wondered as she darted through the
bushes,
brambles and thickets of small saplings. Following Night closely,
right on
his tail, not missing a turn or dart. She followed on wondering if she
could
manage to run all the way back. It would tax her leg sorely, and she
knew
she would be in pain for days, but if Dante was hurt, she had to get
there.

It must be something horrible, if he sent Night to find her. She
hoped
against hope he was not hurt too badly. She pushed the thought that
he
might be injured and near death. They rounded a large boulder and she
smacked hard into something and she was thrown back and landed on her
backside with a loud oomph and a soft thud.

"Damnit Night!" a familiar voice echoed through the clearing.

"Dante!" Weya exclaimed and scrambled to her feet and rushed to check
him
over. He looked far worse that he felt, but the scratches and torn
parts of
his clothing told part of the story.

"Dante, is everything alright? Be ya ok?" she asked her words tumbling
out
in haste to make sure he was ok. Her hands running over him, checking
out
his wounds. Her heart in her throat as she realized he was fine.
Their eyes
met as she tried to gather her breath.

He was relived and heated all at once. She was ok, but she had gone
out on
her own.

"Weya, what were you thinking? I know you want to hunt again.but to
be out
here, by yourself?"

Weya leaned back from his heated response. "How did ya expect me ta
hunt?
Bring the whole warren with me?" she replied

He took a deep breath. "You can't be coming out here, without anyone
with
you." He stressed.

"Dante, I be fine, what be the matter? Has there been another
attack?" she
asked worriedly. Something must have gotten him all upset. She did
not
understand why he was so worried.

"I don't want you to be in the Hospital again, like you were. To end
up
like so many of the others; dead or dying." He rubbed his head. As
time
passed, he had started to really hate these beasts, more than anything
he
had ever known.

Dante reached for her hands and held them. "Weya, I know you can take
care
of yourself." He chuckled and then sighed. "Probably better than I
can
care for myself."

He looked pleadingly into her eyes. "Weya, I'm scared of those
things, they
are big and nasty. I don't like the fact that you are out here, with
them,
without some kinda way out." He tried to explain.

Weya watched the play of emotions across his face and felt the
tightening of
his hands against hers. She understood his fear; she had her own
fear.
But, she needed to take back some of what they had taken from her.

"Tis the same fear I have when you and Jacks patrol." She replied
softly.
"Ya can't give it up, and I would never ask ya." She said. "Tis
somethin I
need ta do, I have ta be able ta make my own way here." She pleaded.

"I don't want to take it from you, that would be the last thing I
would ever
want to do. But when I go out on patrol.there are others there with
me.
Just in case something would go wrong." He looked down at Night, who
was
sitting next to Weya. He looked back at her and smiled. "You could
take
Night with ya!"

Weya smiled and chuckled warmly. "Deal." She agreed happily. "So, I
suppose
since you are both here, tis time for us ta make our way back?" she
replied.
She had gleaned enough of the peace from this place to settle her
nerves.
A nice long leisurely walk back would be nice, and she could spend
some time
with Dante before he had to re****t for his night patrol.

"Shall we walk?" she asked hoping he would agree.

"Walk we shall." He smiled and pulled back a few branches so she
could go
through. He stepped in behind her. He wanted to ask her about the
night
that she woke up the twins, but he didn't know how to ask.. There was
silence for a bit, before he spoke.

"So, with your hunting again, I guess we could stop eating the warren
food
huh?"

Weya looked back and chuckled softly. She waited until he stepped up
to be
by her side. "Not for some time, I fear ya would starve if ya had ta
try to
eat why I might be able to catch at this time." She teased him. It
felt
good to be out here again, and with Dante beside her. She had
forgotten how
nice it had been with just the two of them.

"I did not mean ta worry ya so." She said after another stretch of
easy
silence between them. "When Night found me, I got worried somethin
had
happened ta ya." She confessed softly.

He smiled; he had never had any one worry about him. Well, other than
Jacks, but this was different.

"We need not to worry over each other. We are going to get sick." He
laughed. "So, have you liked living close to the twins?" He asked,
hoping
maybe she would tell him about her nightmare.

Weya smiled and resumed their walk. "Tis alright, they be a bit
noisy." She
replied. "It will take me a bit to get use ta so many." She added,
then
looked at him.

"I kinda miss it just bein us two." She said. "I reckon it will get
better."
She answered.
"Besides, if I don't get chosen, I can live with ya aye?"

Dante smiled with her question. "Oh, of course, I have more than
enough
room for two." He half smiled. "Bed may be a bit small."

Weya smiled and sighed deeply, not realizing she had held her breath
for his
answer.
She turned and resumed their pace. She felt a sudden silence between
them
that had not been there before, and she was not sure what it was or
why it
was there.

"So, did ya see the land they burnt." She said quietly, her voice
cracked as
she thought of the chard land. "I don't understand why."

He sighed. "I know it's a terrible thing, but it had to be done. The
creatures are out here; we need to see them before they get to us.
And
taking away their cover was the only way." He heard her sigh and saw
the
look in her eyes. We could collect seeds from the trees here and
start
replanting, If you like?" He offered.

Weya stopped again and looked at him. "Really? Ya would help me?" she
asked
forgetting why they had destroyed it in the first place. Her mind
awhirl of
all the plants and species of trees she wished to replant.

Dante looked at her. "Well, yeah of course I would help, till the
night
came, and we couldn't see the ground." He placed a hand on her
shoulder.
"And even then I bet Jacks would give us some light."

Weya smiled and nodded and she happily planned. Suddenly a figure
loomed in
front of her and she gasped softly with a start. Sybil. She would
not let
her do that, and after she heard what she had said about Dante, she
did not
wish to take the risk of their meeting.

"Well, perhaps we should ask permission first." She whispered. "I
don't
wish ta get ya in trouble. I met some of those people who patrol this
area,
and they were not very nice."

"What did they do to you?" he asked his tone chilling.

Weya noticed the instant change in his stance, the tone of his voice
and the
look he gave her. She swallowed. She did not want him to go after
them,
but they had scared her, but then on the other hand, how did one
explain the
feelings that Sybil gave her?

"Just rude tis all." She told him truthfully. "Their wing-leader
showed
up." She said trying to find the words to describe exactly what
happened.

"That's all?" He looked at her hard, if something were wrong he was
sure she
would let him know. "Well, I hope he took care of them. There is no
reason
anyone should be rude to you." He thought for a moment. "I may let
my
Wingleader know that some of the people over here are not being very
helpful."

"NO!" she cried out. "Dante, tis nothin, they were rude and I guess
with
everything goin on, tis only right they stopped me and questioned me."
She
added trying to smooth things. She did not wish to become involved
with any
of them, and telling someone of their behavior would only cause more
troubles.

"Their Wingleader handled it." She replied. "She was.. strikin,
and.forceful."

Again Dante looked at her, what wing was over this area? He then
heard
Jacks saying who was in this area.

"Saber?.so that's." Jacks interrupted his thoughts once again telling
him
what he needed to know. "Sybil." Dante spoke again. He thought for a
moment. "Oh! I know who she is. Was that who you meant?" he asked
studying
her.

"Aye, that tis her." Weya said quietly. "She be different tho." Weya
replied. "She was so.so.beautiful, and yet she was like a man." Weya
tried
hard to explain.

"She gave me a ride over here." She said. "I did not feel
comfortable."

"Yeah, that wing is rather scary at times. She gives me the willies."
 He
smiled trying to reassure her. "Well, next time you can have a ride
with
me and Jacks. Speak of the devil, hey there big guy!"

They had arrived where Jacks sat. Night quickly ran up to the big
green and
licked his nose.

"Now you can take a ride that is comfortable."

Weya smiled at that offer and walked over and nuzzled Jacks and lets
Dante
help her climb on and get settled. Once Dante was aboard with Night in
her
lap, Jacks began to lift of and Weya nestled back into Dante and his
arm
slipped around her and held her tight. She had forgotten how much she
loved
it up in the sky flying high and free.

*Take us for a ride* Dante asked his bond mate. *I.Weya.well, I would
like.*Dante tried to find the words.

[I understand my brother] Jacks replied with a soft chuckle that
echoed
through out his head. [It's about time] he softly chided.
*What? * Dante questioned not sure just what Jacks was alluding to.

[Never mind, better hold on!] As Jacks dipped suddenly so that Dante
clung
to Weya tighter and she squealed with delight as they caught an air
pocket,
hovered then dipped again, banking around in a slow graceful turn to
glide
over the beautiful landscape that was now their home.

Weya enjoyed being held in such a way and nestled happily into his
arms.
Dante too, enjoyed the feelings that were invoked by holding her so
close.
They rode in silence snuggled together on the back of Jacks as Dante
thoughts wandered over the past months. They had been through so much,
and
she just grew to be dearer and more precious to him than he thought
anyone
could possibly become.

Weya snuggled deep within his embrace and just enjoyed this quiet time
and
smiled with the thought that no matter what happened with this
hatching
business, they would still be together. She reflected back to his soft
smile; the one he had given her when he told her she would be welcome
to
live with him.

Dante pressed her closer to him as they continued their ride and once
again
his thoughts pulled away from how he felt to worrying over her. She
would
tell him if something were wrong wouldn't she? He thought back to the
panic
look on her face when she first saw him and rushed to him to check him
over.
He smiled, for he liked the feelings it inspired, to know she cared
for
him.

Still, he wondered, she would tell me? He knew that she was reserved
about
certain things, and maybe if she knew.maybe that is it, she is not
sure just
how he felt. Maybe she still thinks that when this is over, he would
leave
with Jacks.

Dante reflected back to the beginning when they had agreed to share
the
winter moons together and he was to leave in the spring. So much had
happened during that time; that the thought of just up and leaving was
no
longer an option. Not just because of her, but he now had a sister,
and
friends, and this was his home, their home.

[We need to head back, we have patrol soon] Jacks broke in.

*Alright* he answered. He leaned forward so he could whisper to her.

"We need to head back" His warm breath tickled her ear and she nodded
leaning back into him. He rested his check against hers as she
nestled in
his arms as Jacks slowly banked again and headed back to the Warren.
GREEN

Late Afternoon

Jacks slowly approached the wide Green and made his usual soft
graceful
landing. Once they were on the ground, Night was the first to leap
off and
take off running. Both Weya and Dante chuckled at the sight.

"Well, my guess he is checking up on Galowyne and the pups." He
whispered to
her, still nestled against her.

Weya nodded and chuckled. "Aye I believe ya be right." She leaned
back and
turned her face to half face him.

He suddenly did not want to go on patrol; he wanted to stay right
here, with
her. Taking in her scent he closed his eyes for a brief moment and
reveled
in the magical moment. He let the moment wash over him and then he
moved
slowly so he could help her down.

Weya sighed softly for somehow she too had felt something and now it
was
over. Dante moved and slid down off of Jacks and then he gently
helped Weya
off and made sure she was ok and fine.

The rest of the wing had begun to show up and make preparations. Lost
in
the swirl of activity Weya and Dante stood close together and chatted
softly
almost as if they were conspiring. Heads together they whispered and
chuckled and many who witnessed it smiled as they watched the two
speak of
private things.

Dante heard the first call to make ready, and prepare to leave. Dante
took
Weya's hands and looked deep into her eyes.

"Now, promise me you wont go out alone." He reiterated. Weya smiled
softly
and nodded.

"I promise not to leave the Warren" she replied. She watched the grin
appear on his face. He chuckled and nodded, for he knew that was as
good as
a promise he would get from her.

The call to mount up came, and the riders around them began to give
their
last checks and then mount up waiting for the order to proceed.
Dante went to do the same, and turned and stepped back to Weya. His
hand
reached up and caressed the side of her check and he smiled at her. He
slowly bent into her, cupping her face within his hands and gently
kissed
her.

The bolt that went through Weya made her softly gasp and this time she
returned his kiss. Feeling her respond to him, he too deepened the
kiss and
when their lips slowly parted they stood and gazed into each other's
eyes.

Another pair of eyes happened upon this scene and watched with
amusement and
interest.

Dante pulled his gaze from her, to try to get some sense of control
back, to
try to put himself into the mode for patrol. He happened to look up
over
Weya's shoulder and saw Sybil watching them. Weya feeling his
attention
suddenly diverted turned to see the amused smirk on the wing-leader's
face.

"Oh, do you need some company?" she teased as she strolled towards
them.

[TAG - EDDIE - or anyone else who wishes to witness this parting
scene.]

Subject: Murderous Motives

Near Midnight
Early Autumn of the Previous Year
Quarters of Farnor, Leatherworker and Merchant

She carefully wrapped the pewter plate in her spare chemise and slid
the bundle into her sack so that it might not clang against anything
else in there and give her away to her father. He'd retired to his
room two hours ago and was surely asleep by now, but she was taking no
chances.

Tying the sack closed, she slipped it over her shoulder and tiptoed
towards the door of her father's quarters above the shop. She moved
faster, knowing the stone steps would not betray her with creaking as
she hurried down them, and she had to hurry. She'd told him to meet
her near the greenhouse at midnight. She couldn't be late. He might
leave. Her hand moved down over her still flat belly. She hadn't
even told him about the babe yet. She was going to tell him tonight
once they were safely away. Excitement thundered in her blood as she
eased the wooden door of the shop open. Escaping into the night with
a sigh of relief, she didn't see the shadow that followed her.

Making her way across the warren green, she tried to maintain her calm
in case she ran into someone, but the night air was cooler than usual
for this early in the season and there were few people out. She knew
they would have no trouble leaving the warren. She was known here,
and he never came without his papers bearing his father's signature.
Besides, the sentries always had far more concern for people trying
to enter the warren than those simply trying to leave it, even at this
time of the night.

She glanced up to check the moon, a mere sliver in the crisp star
filled black sky, and was thankful she had her new cloak. It would
get cold tonight. She hefted the sack higher over her shoulder.
Inside, besides the few trinkets she'd taken from her father's house
to sustain them until they could find a buyer. With his connections
it shouldn't take too long. The box was beautiful, out of some
strange metal, ornately carved, and bejeweled with large sparkling
stones. It had come out of the cave that had been found earlier
during the year. Inside the box, besides the letters he'd dared to
write her, letters she could barely read but that told her how much he
truly loved her, was the real prize. The box was locked tight though,
and the key that went to it was fastened around her throat on a silver
chain she'd inherited when her mother died. Once that prize was
sold, they could live comfortably for the rest of their lives,
together, and never have to worry about anything again.

She waited in the cold crisp autumn air for her lover to join her..and
she smiled up in the dark night when she heard the footsteps
approaching, crunching the grass, and the shadow appeared beneath the
fruit trees of the garden.

Belinda, the leatherworker's daughter

Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] - The Menagerie

MD 2: 1600
Medical Center

Miaren stayed behind for a few minutes making more notes into her
personal
*PADD* to check up on later. She was just sure once she had enough of
the
facts she could show the Lt. and prove to her it was not she. She was
not
the reason, but StarFleet or one of the other controlling agencies
that
liked to keep their fingers in the pot.

As Miaren checked her list of appointments, she saw that she did not
have
anymore patients, and so she decided she was going to call it an early
day
and head back to her quarters and do some inquiring and see what she
could
come up with. With her mind on the new mystery and the intrigue that
comes
with it Miaren walked out into the reception area.

[SNIP]

Thankfully, sickbay was all but empty now save but for a few gastric
stragglers and Dr Hywell was just leaving her office when Montana
appeared.
The doctor's eyes widened seeing the strange apparition in front of
her.

"Doctor, we're here for your physical." The Commander said stoically.

[END SNIP]

Miaren stopped in her tracks and just stood and stared. Standing
before her
was this apparition that had wild and moving parts. She looked like
one of
the pictures her grandfather had shown her of some exotic pagan
Goddess from
some long lost civilization.

"All of you?" she asked incredulously.

"Yes, Duncan kept meticulous records. I made an appointment." She
replied
and ****fted her weight again to try to help maintain the balance.

Miaren nodded more for something to do, rather than to agree with her.
 She
stepped to the desk and checked the appointment list. The Commander
was not
listed.  Miaren flipped to the next page and saw her name.  Altho;
there was
NO mention of 2 lizards.

"There seems to have been an error in scheduling." She turned and
replied
softly watching the first officer now struggling with one of the large
lizards.
They did look rather interesting, something that belonged in a zoo of
some
sort, not on a star****p, and certainly not in her office.

Miaren hoped she did not expect her to examine them as well. She
waited for
her statement to sink in.

"Avi.. I mean the Captain told me he scheduled mine.." She closed her
mouth
in a pinched grimace.

Miaren stood not sure what she should do. There was no way in bloody
hell
she was gong to touch one of those things. She watched the First
Officer
wrestle with one and curse at the other, which the longer she watched
the
more she became amused. They were like 2 children, both going at
different
directions at the same time. By working together in a way, they would
both
win their freedom.

"Uh, Well, I suppose I could give ya a quick check and look over,
altho.."
She let the rest of the sentence drop.

"As I said before Duncan kept impeccable records on us." She
reiterated
again.

"Aye I heard ya say that, but I am not prepared for them.or you."
Miaren
replied back. "I suppose you can come back tomorrow on your scheduled
time.or I can check you over quickly and amend your file."

Montana dropped one of the large lizards to try to get a better grip
on the
one who had worked it's way lose and now perched on the top of her
head.
The one on the ground began to move quicker than Miaren ever thought
possible.

"Nat! You get back here!" She hissed as she attempted to capture the
escaping iguana. Miaren stood and watched the first office struggle
with
one on her head, while the other scrambled under the row of seats in
the
waiting room.

Once again the first officer looked like some ancient goddess of
destruction
and war as the tails and necks of the lizards moved and swished and
Montana
tried to hold her balance and keep them from fleeing.

"Perhaps we should get those scratch marks looked after." Miaren
retorted as
she watched the scene before her. She was a little irritated with her
inability to escape and go do something much more im****tant. She
stopped
that line of thought and chastised herself severely. She sounded more
like
Andrew than she would have liked to admit. She did not need to turn
into a
stuff like him.

"Follow me" she replied and rushed down the hall and found a room
ready to
go for an examination. She opened the door and helped usher the
slowly
losing the battle first officer into the room and Miaren slammed the
door
behind her.

"There, now they are trapped." She answered the questioning look on
the
doctor's face. "So, since we have you here, I shall pull up your file
and
see what we can do for your newest set of injuries here."

Montana let the 2 lizards room the room, glad they were off her and
hoped
the little exploration would help with their nerves. Altho Montana
mused
that perhaps she needed something for her nerves as well.

Miaren slipped into her work mode with ease and soon had the file up
and she
scanned it quickly and went through the tests as quick as she could to
get
them all out of here.

Not that the first officer terrified her, more un-nerved was more like
it.
She knew that from the expression on her face she was not happy with
her
reception. Miaren feared she would hear about it from the Captain in
the
morning meeting. Miaren still did her best not to look her straight
in the
eye. For she was not sure just what the first officer thought of her,
and
from some of the re****ts she had heard from the other officers and
crew
members, she was one who did not brook disappointment, nor was she
used to
not having it done her way.

"Everything checks out well, and ya appear to be in good health."
Miaren
made her pronouncement. "It does say you have a sibling." Miaren
paused
when she read the name. Miaren blanched and softly gasped. The name of
the
patient that she had traveled so far for, was her sister.

"I'm sorry, I had not realized." Miaren offered her apologies. "I'm
sorry
they sent her away so soon, I am sure our newest techniques would have
helped restore her to pre-injury." Miaren replied.

"Tis the main reason I was sent here, I was very disappointed to learn
I did
not have the chance to work with her."

Miaren continued to scan the notes and did in fact see quite an
extensive
list of notes for her pets. Miaren looked up to see the first officer
watching her.

"I hate to ask ya, but if you would be willing to perhaps bring them
in at
another time, and give me a chance to read up on them. I might be
able to
help ya until you can find a better choice to treat your pets than the
medical department." Miaren offered kindly.

"One should not risk such rare species with less than perfect medical
attention. They really need to have a specialist care for them. I am
sure
you try your best to give them what they need.but I am sure tis
difficult
bein on a star****p." Miaren offered as generously as she could.

Miaren pushed her COM and spoke into it and asked for assistance in
Medical.
A few moments later a knock at the door and Miaren carefully opened
it and
standing there was the young man from earlier.

"I heard ya called." He replied with a grin. "What's up?"

Miaren smiled and backed up so he could see the scene before him. He
grinned at the first officer and then saluted her.

"See ya have the boys out for a check up and walk eh?" he teased.
Andrew
grinned and went to one and picked him up.

"Shall I escort ya back to your quarters Ma'am?" he asked Montana.

Montana nodded curtly and picked up the other one and together the 2
walked
out of the office. Andrew followed the first officer and winked
boldly at
Miaren as he slowly closed the door leaving her in with a shambled
room that
needed much cleaning.

[TAG- Back at ya Tree - WHAT does the good First Officer think?]

[SUMMARY]

Miaren is leaving for the day when she comes upon the first officer
along
with her pet lizards, announcing that they are there for their
scheduled
appointment.
After Miaren's first shock is over and finding that there had been a
scheduling mix up offers to check out Montana.

Miaren takes them into an examination room and does a quick exam of
Montana.
She does ask her to return at a later date with the lizards to give
her
some time to research them. She hints to Montana that perhaps she
needs to
find a true vet to care for them.

Miaren then calls for help to help Montana get her pets home.
