Subject: [DL-J] Plan of Attack

Day 1
Morning
Coral Reef

Corwin sent Tanami ahead to aid Dylan and Kaliana, still stunned by
what
Tanami had revealed about the appearance of the Kataani Warriors in
what
should have been open water. He concentrated with Syngnath to get
word
to the warren. Syngnath could feel Keeza's mind but he was unsure if
he
had been able to get the word through.

<Try for Varaenna!> Corwin suggested, but the same dulling seemed to
be
present as they attempted to send to the queen.

Corwin felt a thrill of fear as he began to wonder if the Kataani were
in some way blocking their ability to reach the warren and the other
dragons.

<We've wasted enough time! Time to go after the Kataani Soldiers!>
Corwin instructed and Syngnath sank below the waves.

---
Syngnath was flying through the water but faltered in mid wing flap.
His keening reverberated eerily under the water and was picked up by
other creatures until Corwin wanted to cover his ears. But if he let
go
of the harness he feared being swept off of Sy's back as the seadragon
doubled his speed.

<Ryba is dead, and with her, her rider,> Syngnath told his rider.

Corwin felt his anger boil up within him. He wanted vengeance.
Anyone
seeing him coming through the water might have thought that Ythfaru
himself was bearing down on them.

Syngnath's electricity crackled through the water, arching from
wingtip
to wingtip. He swam as a demon possessed.

But they were too late to affect the outcome of the skirmish.

As they rounded the outcropping of coral the water became murky with
blood. Bodies of Kataani warriors floated in the tide and sharks fed
on
their corpses.

None of the young seadragons or their riders were at first visible.
But
then Syngnath spotted their feet paddling in the water above and he
rose
to the surface.

While weeping might have been expected after the death of one of their
own, Corwin was not really surprised to see cold resolve on the
riders'
faces instead.

"We cannot stay here! There are sharks in the water!" The riders
didn't look at all surprised or alarmed by that pronouncement.

"The sharks will not bother us," Keer answered.

Keer looked at Corwin, stone-faced, as Tanami opened her mouth, but
she
did not appear to say what Keer expected and Keer shot her an odd look
as she said to Corwin:

"The sharks will not bother us, as they are busy feeding, but perhaps
we
should remove to the island."

"But... we can't leave..." Dylan nodded toward the still form of
Ryba,
who was floating at an odd angle, and obviously dead.

"We won't leave her. We will never leave any of our wing!" Corwin
stated firmly. "Now, back to the island. All of you!"

Syngnath and Kethriss as one moved to Ryba and each taking a limp wing
rose out of the water bringing the dead with them -- they barely
cleared
it when the teleported.

---
Small Island

The wing assembled on the island. Summer, Raven, Ansel and Dakhrau
had
arrived back moments before Clowie, Dylan and Keer.

Syngnath and Kethriss teleported in with their burden between them,
and
set Ryba down. Kali's still form drooped in the saddle.

Tanami and Corwin dismounted and joined the riders.

Corwin looked from one to the other and paused last as he faced
Tanami.
"So, what happened?"

Tanami didn't hesitate as she answered, "Those Kataani Soldiers should
not have been there."

Corwin nodded, he already knew that.

"The warriors attacked first! Kali and Ryba were killed." Dylan
cried
out. "They died saving me!" Then she looked away, as if ashamed of
her
outburst or perhaps just speaking out of turn.

"We will avenge her death!" Ansel spoke up bravely.

Corwin shook his head, "From what I saw, there aren't any of them
left.
I must say I am... impressed." He again looked at Tanami as if
waiting
for an explanation.

[TAG: Eddie and John... does she give an explanation? Or does Keer?
I
left it open as to what information Keer extracts from the soldiers
before they are all killed. Will he share it now?]

---

As Ansel and Dakharau shared what they had witnessed and the skirmish
in
which they had participated, there was a disturbance of air over the
island.

[TAG: Alex and John... what happened with the patrol group they met up
with?]

A very relieved and excited young seadragon landed nearby and her
equally excited rider slid down.

"Eliase?" Corwin looked startled.

"I have news!" Eliase cried out as she hurried forward. "The dragons
could not reach you, so we came in person. The warren has been
attacked!"

Anger, but not surprise, greeted her announcement. It was as Tanami
had
feared.

"Then we must hurry back at once!" Corwin announced, already turning
toward Syngnath. They would have to return to attend to the remains
of
Ryba and Kali -- if there were any of them left to do so.

"There is more!" Eliase exclaimed, stopping Corwin in his tracks.

"Go on!" Corwin barked.

Eliase did not shrink from him, but went on boldly, "Their commander
claims that they are attacking to liberate the Emperor from our
captivity!"

"But we don't have the Emperor captive!"

Tanami inhaled sharply, her pale green skin going even paler. "He did
not make it home?"

"Apparently not!" Eliase stated, "And worse. Along side the general
was... Counselor Oga."

"Something has become of the Emperor!" Tanami declared, "And Oga has
blamed the warren!"

"Do you think Oga has killed him?" Corwin asked.

"No." Keer spoke up. "Oga would not kill the Emperor. Not yet, at
least. He might find him useful, or find his sudden demise useful. So
he will conceal him somewhere until a time that he decides to use
him."

Corwin nodded. He could see the wisdom in that reasoning. "But if
the
army believes that we have the Emperor and are attacking us because of
this...."

"Yes, they won't stop their attack unless we produce the Emperor and
free him... and Princess Kiyomi."

"Then we must find him!" Corwin declared. "Tanami, take Keer and
Clowie. Search until you find the Emperor."

"And Princess Kiyomi!" Eliase blurted out. She had forgotten to tell
Corwin that the Princess had disappeared, as well. "No one has seen
her
in the warren since yesterday."

Corwin closed his eyes a moment, fearing the worst for the poor
Princess. "We have spies in the warren. The rest of us will return
at
once to the defense of Jasra. Tanami. Keer. Clowie." He looked each
in
the eye as he spoke their names, "You must succeed. I have all
confidence in you."

With that, he waved for them all to mount and in a moment the divided
wing, minus one of their members, left the island.

[TAG: John, Eddie and Katie... good hunting. To the rest of the
Maritime Wing... back to Jasra! We've some fighting to do.]

---
Summary:

Day 1
Morning

Corwin meets up with Tanami after hearing that Dylan and Kaliana are
trapped by some Kataani Soldiers. He sends her on ahead and tries in
vain to contact the warren. While on his way to rejoin the other
riders, he hears of Kali and Ryba's death. When he arrives at their
location, the battle is already over and sharks are devouring the dead
Kataani.

Returning to the island, the maritime wing discusses the situation.
Eliase arrives with unwelcome news from Jasra. Hearing that the
Emperor
did not return from Jasra and that the Kataani are attacking, Corwin
assigns Tanami, Keer and Clowie to search for him ... and Princess
Kiyomi who also appears to have vanished. The remainder of the wing
returns to Jasra and her defense.

Subject: [DL-D] Snoozin' and Schmoozin'

Day 99 Late Evening

Samson sure wished that his rider would make up with Chamelle's rider
because he really hated when the Big Guy got cranky. Not that he was
cranky at the moment, in fact the big dope was feeling quite well at
the moment. Too well actually! Everytime he drank too much of the
humans stuff it meant that the next day was not going to be a good
one.

Snuggling closer to the female dragon curled up next to him Samson
yawned contentedly. A rumbling sound akin to purring escaped the big
male as he nuzzled the scaly neck affectionately. It was a darn good
thing that dragons weren't as foolish as humans. He and Chamelle were
in agreement that their riders needed to spend more time cuddling
since they were so good at it. All the arguing was getting rather old
since they really did like each other, but neither was willing to
admit. Sometimes humans could be so dumb.

Samson really hoped his rider didn't plan on going up to his apartment
tonight, for one he was feeling quite cozy here snoozin' and
schmoozin' his sapphire beauty and for another he was feeling rather
fuzzy headed. Unfortunately it was one of those side affects of being
joined to a pig-headed human.

Suddenly out of the darkness a female bugled her mating challenge and
Samson's scales began to tingle. He staggered unsteadily to his feet
his massive body answering the call of the rising female. The world
around him spun for a moment and he blinked hard to focus as something
blue moved in front of him. It was a tail, or was it two? It was
getting hard to think as he stretched his wings "YO BABY I'M COMING!"
He roared in unison with his brethren.

The sounds of the warren males vibrated across the warren and each had
one thought in mind and that was to be the most worthy.

The mating lust blotted out everything else and Samson was oblivious
to everything around him except his need to catch the frisky female.
His balance was a little off due to his riders condition but it didn't
deter the determined dragon and he half-hopped towards the edge of the
ledge not seeing the blue tail that snake out in front of him until it
was too late, the next instant he found himself hurdling off the
ledge.

"Ooopsss!" The crimson giant half yelped as the rush of the cool night
air chased the fuzziness from his mind. Snapping his wings in to
control the downward spiral until he was able to right himself then
his large wings spread to catch an updraft. "Just hold on there
darling, I'm a coming for ya! Hey! Watch it!" He roared at one of the
younger males who almost rammed him from beneath.

Tripping and falling had definitely been a set back but Samson knew he
had the strength to catch up. The chase was a brisk one with the males
fighting for the chance to prove their worth as they soared across the
starlit sky. Hampered by the affects from his rider though Samson
began to tire quickly and his balance just plain sucked and he'd
almost been knocked out of the race more then once.

[..]

Wild-eyed Lexi spun around looking for his prey. There were females
around him but only one would do and seeing a group of men forming
nearby he was drawn in that direction. He stumbled and fell more then
once but the mating lust kept him going. The searing heat enveloping
his body helped lessen the affects of the alcohol enough that he was
able to get in a few shoves and blows at the other contenders and at
one point almost had the dancing female in his grasp. But she spun
away to fast and he lost his balance and then it was over with the
victor claiming his prize.

[..]

Samson's landing on the green was not one of his best and the crimson
giant skidded to a stop, teetered for a brief moment then fell over
into a heap. With a deep sigh he lay on his side debating on just who
was going to be the crankiest come morning.

A rush of air touched his red scales and Samson looked up as Chamelle
landed next to him nuzzling his scales gently to see if he was okay.
Arching his neck around he gazed at her with doleful eyes, "I am not
worthy, and I think I need a nap now." He signed dropping his head
back down.

The sapphire dragon nestled down next to him draping her wing over the
big male protectively. With another deep sigh Samson snuggled closer.
Maybe being the loser wasn't so bad after all.

[..]

His body still hot with lust Lexi swirled around looking for anything
remotely resembling a female and almost fell down in the process.

"Lexi! Are you okay!" Akety called out making her way towards him.

The feminine voice was all that was needed and the blacksmith
straightened his eyes still glazed with rampant desire. In a rush he
lunged at the little brunette scooping her up into his muscular arms.
"Gotchya!"

Lexi ignored her struggles and the loud voices behind him as he bent
to claim her lips. Suddenly he was jerked backwards and thrown to the
ground. When his eyes came into focus the big man found himself
staring up into blazing sapphire eyes.

{Tag: Okie girls I'll let you take it from here. Just be gentle. With
him *grin}
