Subject: [WW-Vampire]A Dark Begining
The Moon rose in all its glory over an old plantation that remained in
good
shape. It was remarkable if one knew the history of the land, from the
civil
war era to the present. In all that time rumors of ghosts, demons and
witchcraft have been associated with the plantation and the people who
lived
there. But few today really believed such stories except those who
lived
close.
Much of the land was occupied by gypsies and those who claim to be
Creole.
They harvest the vineyards and produce sweet wines. The big house
however
often stayed empty except the small house staff that spent much of
their
time on the front porch. Every once in awhile a relative of the
original
owners would come to stay at the house and the manor would be lit up
by
candle light. Those who visited the house learned that though the
house had
electricity it did not have any lamps and all light was done by
candles most
of which they made on the very plantation.
It was here that Jack awoke his man servant ever at the ready to
supply the
tall master with clean cloths and polished weapons. Jakes friend
Terrance,
had left a night ago growing bored for Jack seemed to be waiting on
something.
"Good Evening Master Jack I have a letter here for you," the man
servant
explained.
The man servant had taken away Jack's old fatigue type clothing and
replaced
them with black slacks and a white linen shirt. For a coat he had a
long
black leather jacket and Jack was not to be parted from his Stetson
and his
combat boots.
"Hello Sam, it feels good to be awake sleeping like the dead through
the day
always gives me an uneasy feeling." Jack smiled at his own joke.
"I would give up my life before harm would be fall you sir," Sam
replied a
bit taken back.
"Why of course but lets hope it never comes to that shall we." Jack
winked.
"So where is this letter?"
"I've taken the liberty of placing it in the study along with the
information on the lady you requested more information on." Sam said
as
though he was slight agitated that master Jack would have to ask.
"Ah right and which way was that again?" Seeing the stunned look on
Sam, "Oh
never mind I think I can find my way." It had been a more rhetorical
question then a true one for Jack found being the creature he is,
forgetting
something was near impossible which are more a curse then a blessing.
It didn't take long for Jack to find the place; the smell of dusty
books was
unique enough to give it away. On opening the door and seeing the
cluttering
of books most of which were rare and the old style desk, he couldn't
help
but think back to his nights in the jungle when Raven would talk
longingly
about this very office.
True to his words the items Sam mentioned were laid neatly on the
desk. Jack
sat down in the plush chair and looked through the notes Sam provided.
What
he found was rather amazing and Sam was good enough to provide a
picture.
Her name was Josette Antoinette Marie-Claudette Deauvereux also known
as JD
and Josie. She works for the city police in the crime division doing
mostly
forensics. Jack read through her history and was surprised that the
woman
had gown up on this very plantation as her family had worked and died
here.
The other item was a letter with the wax stamp of a raven. Jack
smelled it
lovingly and very carefully opened the letter. The scent of his
masters'
blood was attached to the letter and the tall man studied the fine
artistic
hand of his masters writing.
-My beloved Jack-
-I hope you have become somewhat accustomed to New Orleans and your
surroundings. I wanted to point out that you are to trust no one no
matter
how much they may seem trustworthy for there is often a darker meaning
behind the trusting faces.
-At the moment I myself am not ready to come to New Orleans so I need
your
help in procuring a few items for me.
-First I need you to retrieve a book, though it is stored at the
Library of
New Orleans it is in a hidden volt. If you can please try to be
discrete I
don't wish anyone else to get wind of this.
-Second there is an occult in the city called the Eye of Nemesis. They
are
mostly a gang of want to be witch's that practice live sacrifices and
necromancy. In their hidden home that I need you to find they have a
gold
box with ornate carvings of a wolf. It is locked. What ever you do I
must
ask that you do not open the box for what is inside is very dangerous
to
anyone but me.
-Lastly, from my understanding there are werewolves that roam the
city I
need you to find one and take its heart. Put the heart in a bag of
blood and
keep it on ice. When all this is done it will be time for me to come
to you.
-Be careful and I'll see you soon
-Ravenous
Jack sighed, not that he needed to but the human need to do so was to
over
powering for him not too. "So much to do and so little time," he
picked up
the picture of Josie and studied her a moment. "Something tells me our
paths
will cross again." He placed the picture in his chest pocket.
"It is time to hunt a bit and then we will see into these other
matters,"
With that Jack strolled out of the house where his motor bike awaited
him.
With the sound of a roaring engine the figure was soon on his way.

Subject: USS Oberon -- Second Piece of the puzzle
<snip from two posts now>
³Step out, and Iıll tell you.² Query said, getting into a ready
position in
case he had to lunge at the person. Not that it would matter. If the
man
was even remotely intelligent, heıd be carrying a phaser.
³Of course. My name is Bolsand. Has it begun?²
<end snip>
³Weıre here, arenıt we?² Query asked, irritated.
³You have come a long way, that I know.² Bolsand said, stoically.
³Yes, we have. You feel like telling us why weıre bloody here, or was
this
the huge mistake Iım feeling it was?²
³Mr. Neile, there is no reason to be upset with me.²
³You know, why does everyone keep telling me Iım upset, believe me,
when Iım
upset, someone will damn well know it!² Query said, nearly on the
verge of
pacing now. ³Now, do you feel like telling me anything or shall I
tell my
captain this was just a simple waste of time?²
³Mr. Neile, I have been patrolling this sector for the better part of
10000
of your centuries. At the same time I gave up joking around, I also
gave up
wasting peopleıs time. And if you think Iım kidding you, ask my
brother
when you see him next, and he will inform you of how I do not make it
a
point of asking people to come millions of light years on a lark.
Have I
made myself abundantly clear about the grave nature of what I am about
to
ask of you and your crew?²
³Sure.²
³Good. Now, contained within a box in the compartment beneath where
you are
standing at this exact moment is a map with the location of
Ochariıs...ahem,
playground.² Bolsand clearly loathed the very thought of that name.
³Annnndddd???² Query asked after a moment of his silence.
³There are many things which are required of this place, not the least
is
his Obag of tricks.ı²
³Who is he, Merlin?²
³No, but he does have quite a few tricks that he plays on people both
without their knowledge, and I would very much like to disabuse him of
that
by stopping him the next time it happens.²
³And please, Serpico, why canıt you go in and get this magic bag of
holding
yourself?²
****
Place: Observation Lounge
Time: 30 minutes later
³And what was his answer to that?² The captain asked.
³He told me that none of his kind can go there. Not even Ochari any
longer.
He has almost Obooby trappedı it.² Query answered.
³How almost?² This time it was the diminutive first officer.
³Well, thereıs the problem. First of all, it has to do with location.
You
see, Castle Dracula there has numerous layers of security. Its first
layer
of security is that its located within a fairly impregnable asteroid
belt.
The asteroid field is a natural phenomenon, yet with the gravitation
of the
belt itself, blowing or cutting a path makes the situation worse
because the
belt then expands. Moreover, the rock construction is made up of a
metal
that refracts phaser blasts and would be undamaged by photon
torpedos.²
³Okay, if thatıs the first layer, then why are we even talking about
any
other layers?² The counselor asked.
³Well, weıll answer that in a moment.² Query heard the captain say,
and
could feel his blood boil at what he was insinuating. ³Lt. Continue.²
³Yesssss, ssssir.² He hissed out. ³The second set of security
measures are
much more interesting.²
³than what weıve already heard?² Lia asked.
³Yes.² Query looked between the Captain and the counselor. ³How much
Betazoid history and culture do you know?²
³I am Betazoid, Lt., there is very little I donıt know.² The
counselor
responded coldly.
³Well, let me try it a different way. Have you ever heard the Song of
Silence?² Query asked, and while no one at the table had, both the
Doctor
and Counselorıs faces dropped when he asked. Obviously they had.
³The Song
of Silence is arguably the most difficult and one of the oldest pieces
of
music ever in the Betazoid culture, possibly the universe. Its
musical
notes and lyrics are so difficult to play because the notes themselves
supposedly are quarter pitches, not full notes. Moreover, each pitch
in
this case, is part of an unlock sequence. When entered correctly, the
sequence will bring us to the last part...²
³Wait, stop.² This time it was the operations manager who stopped
him. Her
tone was interesting. For the most part, she wasnıt much of a
³talker² as
Query had found the few times heıd tried to talk to her. Mostly just
ignored him for whatever reasons. Now, her animation was startling.
³So,
first, we have to get past an impenetrable ring of asteroids. Once
weıve
accomplished that, we need to play a song that, really, only two
people here
have heard before. Is it even in the databanks?²
³No.²
³NO?!!?²
³It is not in the databanks. I looked as soon as I got back. Bolsand
gave
me the closest reproduction he could, but he hasnıt heard it in quite
some
time.² Query answered plainly. Moreover, quite annoyed at her
temerity to
question him. Where has she been during this whole thing? His anger
was
clearly bubbling over again, much as it had during her meeting with
Bolsand.
³But thatıs not the truly frightening part.²
³Oh, good, because we were missing the truly frightening part.² That
quip
came from Tyler. Queryıd nearly forgotten about him in all that had
happened.
³The truly frightening part is that Bolsand doesnıt know what weıll
find
after we play the song. Millennia ago, he and Ochari built this as a
place
where they could both go to get away from people at the station.
Since that
time, Ochari has made a few...modifications and Bolsand can no longer
go
there.²
³But I thought you said that the ring of asteroids was a naturally
occurring
phenomenon?² Lia asked.
³I did, but you see, Ochari has a device similar to ours.²
³This is where I step in.² The captain spoke up after that last
comment.
³Yolanda, Iona, Dr.² he said looking at the counselor, ³we installed,
just
shortly after we dropped MacArthur off at Betazed, an Iconian device
that
allows us to render this ship not just cloaked, but also refracts
space
around it, so we can actually travel THROUGH solid objects.² While
the
others were not surprised by such an announcement, his announcement
was news
to the newer officers. Their faces reflected that lack of knowledge
too,
and in the case of the counselor, the practical application was only
now
starting to hit him. ³Now, as Lt. Commander Neile would have
explained had
I not interrupted him, the device has still yet to be tested in live
situations. We truly donıt know if it will work.²
³That is correct, captain.²
³Which is why I propose an alternative. Lt. Commander Neile, you, Lt.
Anton, Lt. commander Elbrun and a skeleton crew will take the
captainıs
yacht, and remain here. As we do not have the technology adapted yet,
we
cannot put it in there, so weıll have to take the Oberon INTO the
cluster
and go from there. We will attempt to bring back whatever it is that
Ochari
has there, so Bolsand can help us for whatever comes next.²
³And what is that, captain?² Lia asked.
³I truly do not know, Lt.² The captain said, standing up. ³We leave
in 15
minutes. Commander, get your team.²
*****
Query stormed into Engineering. How could he try to activate the
device
without me? What the hell is wrong with him? NO ONE knows it quite
like I
do, or this ship! ³Ensigns FıTok, Martin, Fisher, Lewis, I need you
front
and center right now!² Running, they were standing in front of him
within a
minute. ³I am leaving this ship, along with Lt. Anton, Lt. Commander
Elbrun, and a few other officers. While I am gone, Sherry, you will
be in
charge of Engineering. During this trip, I am hereby informing you,
you
WILL be using the cloaking device. FıTok, you will run drills every
second
from now until you arrive at a rock cluster 3 hours away. That should
give
you time fro 15 drills. I do not want to hear you ran 14. I want to
hear
that you did everything you could until you arrived. Jon, you will
slide
over into my spot during the session. Shea, youıll take Jonıs spot.
Eoin,
you will run half of the drills in Alexıs spot. Sherry, you will make
sure
that the system doesnıt blow a gasket. I am a phenomenally patient
person,
but trust me, if I have to rebuild one more ship that I have been CEO
of, I
promise you, all of you will be in outer Siberia without a coat for
the rest
of your respective lives. Have I made myself clear?²
³Yes, sir!² they all said simultaneously.
³Start your drills. I am leaving.² He said, but as he walked out, he
found
Lia outside the door, and Sherry running behind, catching up to him.
³Sherry, what did I just tell you?²
³Sir, why are you not going to be on board?²
³Sherry, I can promise you, itıll be a beautiful respite for you to
not have
me barking at your back every minute.² He looked down at her for a
moment.
³Youıre going to be fine. I believe in you, and donıt worry. I will
be
back, especially if you blow up my ship!² She almost smiled. He gave
her
shoulder a quick squeeze, and then took Lia by the hand as they walked
out
to the turbolift.
³Alright, people, letıs get going! FıTok, start the simulations!²
Sherry
said, after wiping her eyes around the corner before coming in.
³You okay?² Jon whispered.
³Yup. Letıs go.² She said, steeling herself.
*****
Query looked down at Lia, after the door closed. ³Captainıs Yacht.
Authorization, Neile Pi Seven Tau.² She looked up at him, with what
seemed
like a nervous look in her eyes. ³It was my locker combination at the
Academy.² He smirked.
³You havenıt been acting like yourself lately.² She said, finally.
³Letıs not do this now, huh?² Query said, adjusting himself and
letting her
go. He didnıt want to be angry, he just couldnıt control himself.
<Tag Berni!>
***
Query took the yacht out of its berth at the bottom of the saucer
section.
³All systems functioning. Space station, please allow for docking of
Oberon
runabout.²
<docking request approved, welcome back.>
³Not that weıd gone too far.² Tyler quipped again. ³So, what do we do
now?²
³Well, Tyler, I think we just wait.² Query said, soberly, as they
docked.
³Now, shall we get something to tide us over?²
***
Meanwhile, on the Oberon...
³Lt. Elgin, please...²
³Yes, sir, disconnecting from the station now, laying the course for
the
asteroids 225 by 72, Warp factor 2.²
³I will never get used to that...² the Captain said, eerily.
