[WoD-WEB] Late Night Rooftop Meeting
Day 21 Twilight
Alorian made her way to the roof of her building just as the sun had
set
below the city horizon. It was one of her more favorite places to be.
She
settled into the chair she had up there and slowly let the guard she
held up
around her down. She relaxed back and stared up at the stars that
were
beginning to twinkle. She didn't know he was out there, making his
way to
her. He didn't know she was there either.
The breeze blew across her warm skin, cooling it, and picking up her
scent,
carrying it through the air to him.
A gentle grin tugged at the edge of Kayn's mouth as he sniffed the
air. It
seemed tonight's prowl would start off on a very interesting note.
"When is a wolf not a wolf?" he mused, standing on the edge of a
building,
looking across and down at the object of his attention. "Smells like
one,
but isn't." He chuckled, a light breeze gusting up the side of the
building
and swirling around him, not affecting his stance for a moment. "Well,
out
of politeness..."
Being upwind, Alorian didn't sense a presence until an amused voice
broke
the silence.
"Going to be a lovely night, isn't it?" Her head whipped around to
find a
tall figure in a grey coat standing at the edge with their back to
her. "I
love it when the air is so clear. The full moon is close, so very
close
now." He turned his head, his long silver hair billowing around him as
intense blue eyes focused on her. "You've been looking for me, haven't
you?"
Alorian didn't know what to say. It was rare that she was caught
surprised,
and it could only be done by one type of person. After a moment her
stance
moved to relaxed and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Perhaps,"
she
answered him. Her mind scanned through all the recent arrivals, but
she did
not remember him. Her brow furrowed slightly as she studied him.
"Perhaps it was you who was looking for me."
"Ah, on the contrary," Kayn replied, "it is you who have been making
discrete enquiries about out of town wolves, is it not? I guess you
didn't
have a picture, since I'm not really that hard to find." He took a few
steps
towards her, his eyes studying her even as she did the same for him.
"I care
very little for the internal politics of other packs, for it is none
of my
business. But when I suddenly become an item of interest and I'm not
approached directly, I have to wonder."
Kayn had moved up beside her and he bent down, his lips almost
bru****ng her
ear. "Now personally I couldn't give a **** what Michael does in this
city,"
he whispered. "His little fiefdom and any of the petty schemes he's in
are
none of my concern. But if he thinks he can **** around with me when
I've
given him no reason to, he might find he regrets it greatly."
He straightened and stepped back from her in an instant, the movement
a
breeze in Alorian's face. Moving over to the edge of the building once
more,
Kayn leant back against the metal railing and regarded her closely.
"Well,
now that you've found me, perhaps you can ask whatever burning
questions you
need answers for, hmm?"
Alorian didn't move, and her expression stayed the same. Inside was
quite a
different story tho. Slowly she composed her thoughts. "You hardly
expect
to reappear in the city and not have that be questioned, do you?" She
took a
few steps towards him, lowering her arms to her sides. If nothing
else her
movement was to show no fear of him.
"You should be careful of your judgments of who exactly it is that is
****ing with you." She paused beside him, looking out over the city.
"But
since you are here, and since you have asked.." She glanced to him
with a
smile. "Who are you? And why are you back in the city?"
Kayn crooked his head at her inquisitively. "A wolf needs no reason as
to
where he goes and why," he replied. "You of all people should know
that." He
rose to his feet and began circling her slowly, taking every inch of
her in,
as if sizing up his next meal. "I happen to be here on business,
although
its none of yours why." He flashed her a grin. "As for who I am, I'm
sure
Michael has filled you in, hasn't he? I'm a myth, a legend, someone
who may
or may not exist." He chuckled softly. "Bedtime stories for young
wolves
more than truth I think, but amusing all the same."
He stopped pacing and locked eyes with her again, intrigued by her
calmness.
"I suppose you could call me a watcher, of sorts. I watch over the
wolves of
this world and have done for a very long time. I don't get involved in
pack
politics and help those who need it." He smirked and added
sarcastically,
"very altruistic of me, don't you think?"
Alorian met his gaze with a searching one of her own. "Very." She was
intrigued by this rogue wolf. For a moment she debated how much to
tell
him. Michael would kill her if she gave up to much information. "A
cub
went missing. Her name is Natasha Vartok. I am supposed to be
finding her,
but I keep coming up short." He could sense the frustration rising in
her.
Her gaze moves away from him and back over the city. Something about
his
presence drew her to him. She fought against it, the conflict
fla****ng in
her eyes as she looked back to him. "Michael suggested you might have
had
something to do with her disappearance..." She left the sentence
hanging,
waiting to see how he would respond.
"He would say something like that I suppose," Kayn replied with an
annoyed
sigh. "But no, I haven't heard nor seen someone of her name before."
He
chuckled softly. "The only cubs I usually deal with are those who have
run
away and have trouble with what they are." He glanced at Alorian with
one
eyebrow arched. "The fact that you haven't been able to sense where
she was
taken is disturbing. Not an ordinary kidnapping then, if that's what
it
was."
All the time Kayn studied her, the indecision in her eyes so
intriguing. She
was genuinely worried about the missing girl, but something else was
on her
mind as well that promised to be very interesting. "So, do you wish me
to
help you? I'd be a poor wolf to refuse you if you asked...unless a
certain
someone doesn't want me involved?"
"How much you are or are not involved is for me to decide." Her gaze
at him
was piercing. She crosses her arms over her chest again. "I would
rather
have your help than have you be a hindrance." She made a point not to
mention that she would rather keep an eye on him as well, as her trust
didn't go that far.
"But yes, you are right. The vehicle that she was taken away from
school in
was located. I could tell she was there, but it is as if she has just
disappeared into thin air from there. The scent is gone like she just
suddenly ceased to exist." The breeze blows cold, her hair blowing
back
from her face and causing her to ****ver. It suddenly occurred to her
how
little she was wearing, just a simple nightgown and a pair of socks.
She
took a step back, away from him as much as away from the edge of the
roof.
"Interesting," Kayn replied with a slight frown. "Not to many beings
who can
do can do something like that." He remembered the club he'd visited
the
other night and its most interesting occupants. "Although I have an
idea
where I mind find out who might." He looked her over and grinned at
her.
"Although I doubt now is a good time for you."
"Where did you have in mind?"
"Ah, but you don't trust me, remember? What would everyone think about
you
being accompanied by a mysterious unknown wolf through the city at
night?"
He smiled as his eyes took her in. She might not have fur, but he
could
still appreciate her human form and her blood almost sang out to him.
The
wind had picked up and the sudden chill sent ****vers over her body,
causing
certain things to be noticeable through her light top. Alorian flushed
lightly under his gaze and hugged her arms around herself against the
wind.
It was only moments before her gaze grew defiant tho. She dropped her
arms
to her sides and stared right back at him. "It is none of my concern
what
others think. I will do what I need to do to find Natasha." Her fists
clenched slightly her are gaze became challenging. She pushed her
sudden
lust for him down and away. It only served to fluster her, and she
could
not afford that right now. Instead she spun on her heal and headed
back for
the door off the roof. "I will meet you downstairs in ten minutes,"
she
called back to him before disappearing.
About five minutes later, Alorian wandered into her living room still
half
dressed and almost had a heart attack when she realized Kayn was
lounging in
one of her chairs.
"What...what the hell are you doing in here?"
"Admiring your décor," Kayn replied blandly. "Sarcasm aside, I
realized that
I have a prior engagement very soon and need to be elsewhere. However,
if
you'd like to continue this tomorrow night at the same time, I'll be
glad to
help you look for your cub." He got to his feet and flicked his hair
over
the back of his collar. "In the meantime, I'll keep an eye open. That
okay
with you?"
"That would be appreciated," Alorian replied. Kayn eyed her
appreciatively
and grinned, before heading for the door.
"Nice underwear by the way, suits you." The door clicked shut, denying
her
the suitably appropriate response that came to mind.
Alorian stood still for a few minutes to be sure he was not going to
reappear in his apartment before fini****ng getting dressed. She
headed out
and down the street. A while later she found herself at the door of
his
apartment. She started to knock and paused, then knocked. Alex
appeared a
moment later at the door.
"Alorian?" He seemed surprised to see her. "Is everything ok?"
She nodded and walked past him into his apartment. "We need to talk."
