Subject: [USS Capricorn] Shuttle Status

<snip>
Looking over the crewmembers, she nodded without thinking, "Ury, you
and Lt.
Commander A'kora stay here and see what you can find out. Appraise the
Captain of the situation and let me know as soon as you find anything.
Motioning to several of the security team, then nodding at Miaren,
"Doctor,
you're with me." Looking at Marquis with a strained smile, "After you."
Then
suddenly stopping Montana looked back across the area beyond the
shuttle and
asked, "Marquis, may I ask what kind of animals you have on this
planet?"

He looked at her curiously and frowned, "Sadly Commander, the
animals...died
off a long time ago."

For some strange reason she accepted his explanation without further
questioning. Nodding the First Officer silently followed the man trying
to
figure out why she felt so strange.
</snip>

A'kora watched the Exec and Doctor walk away with some misgivings. No
animals? What this Marquis and his people consumed for nourishment
then
became a significant question. It was certain that they could not
count on
a Federation star****p passing just in time for dinner, so such
suspicions
became illogical, even in the spurious manner which humans used the
term.

However, if A'kora had ever been of a temperment to conform to the
expectations of others she never would have left Vulcan. Or, as one of
her
favorite human expressions went; there was more than one way to skin a
cat.

"Cheng to Engineering." She said, activating her comm badge. "Have
Cheif
Sabb get a team together. The diagnostics require another ten minutes
to
complete, but my expectations are that the shuttle is flight worthy,
once
it's batteries have been recharged."

"Aye Cheng." Came the reply.

"I will be informing the Captain of the results when the diags are
complete." A'kora added. "It would please me to inform the Captain
that I
have a team ready to replace the aforementioned battiers with spares
from
the Capricorn at that same time."

"Aye Cheng." Chief Sabbittini replied, having been waved over by the
EOOW
when A'kora called in. "Do the old ones need to be pulled?"

"No Cheif." She told him. "Bring down a set of universal coupling
adaptors. The system is fifty years old but in good preservation. She
is
simply out of juice."

"Anything else, Cheng?"

"Yes." A'kora looked out the shuttle's front viewscreen, where Montana
and
her companions had vanished moments before.

"The Exec and the Doctor have taken it upon themselves to go on
walkabout."
A'kora told her Cheif. "I want the trans****ter room to keep a positive
lock
on their comm badges at all times. The radiation put out by the local
sun
might only be lethal after threshold ac***ulation is reached, but I do
not
want to take any chances with personnel caught without cover if dawn
comes
upon them unexpectedly."

"Aye Ma'am. Anything else?"

"No, that will be sufficent. Cheng out."

A'kora let out a short, small, snort of annoyance and turned away from
the
view****t to again monitor the diagnostic program in progress. Seven
point
three minutes remaining before the test was complte. Perhaps by that
time,
A'kora might have decided on if she were going to inform the Captain
that
she was having the position of the XO and Doctor monitored.
