Day 14
Early Evening
Dining Hall

Ash'chenon slipped into the Dining Hall, taking Ari's arm
even as he looked around. Several good things happened;
first, it didn't appear that any of the riders around them were
backing away and throwing up signs against evil. Obviously,
dragon-talk had been taking place. He was glad for it.

The second thing was Ari. She didn't start, didn't attack
him, just smiled and accepted his arm; he didn't have to
show her that. For so many things, she already knew what
to do. So much of it was common sense, and the girl
already showed an abundance.

Ash turned a little, feeling the hilts of the nomad
knives, the as-en, pressing against his belly; he
didn't let the frown reach his face. That was another thing
that he would have to teach, another step away from
innocence. But it was better, was it not, for this, rather
than to see her taken advantage of? Now that he had a
fairly good idea of just whose arm he held? Time would
tell, he supposed. She wanted to learn. She would draw
her own line.

He looked up, feeling the weight of another's gaze upon
them; his hand balled into a fist. It... couldn't be!

In a flash, he saw where it was going, the plans within
plans; his face turned red, then white from anger. How
-dare- they? If Reolden was part of this...

....but no. The prince looked as suprised as Ash, himself.
He didn't know who the suitor was to be. Not
specifically.

No. Not him. Ash would make sure of that. He smiled,
the old wolf's smile, nodded at the noble, saw the other's
face turn white.

That's right, Reginald. Be afraid. For if I do not chew you
up and spit you out, I know that Ari will...

********************

Summary:
Ash joins Ari at the Dining hall, sees Reginald, and realizes
why the man is there; Ash vows to stop both Reginald's and
the king's plans for Ari.
