Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] - Over the Hills and Thru the Woods
MD 3
On Planet
Away-Team
[SNIP]
Looking over the crewmembers, she nodded without thinking, "Ury, you
and Lt.
Commander A'Kora stay here and see what you can find out. Apprise the
Captain of the situation and let me know as soon as you find anything.
Motioning to several of the security team, then nodding at Miaren,
"Doctor,
you're with me." Looking at Marquis with a strained smile, "After you."
Then
suddenly stopping Montana looked back across the area beyond the
shuttle and
asked, "Marquis, may I ask what kind of animals you have on this
planet?"
He looked at her curiously and frowned, "Sadly Commander, the
animals...died
off a long time ago."
For some strange reason she accepted his explanation without further
questioning. Nodding the First Officer silently followed the man trying
to
figure out why she felt so strange.
[END SNIP]
Miaren was not happy with the decision to follow this stranger. She
did not
feel right, and he made her feel very uncomfortable. Everyone else
seemed
to feel ok and relaxed; and even Ury did not seem to be upset with the
splitting up of the party. She sent another message back to sick bay
with a
request to keep her and the party, and the away team monitored at all
times.
Explained what she was looking for, and to whom to report any changes
of any
kind.
She then sent one to the young man who had shown an interest and
explained
her misgivings. She asked for a favor and when given the promise, she
thanked him and made her way to join the First Officer and hoped she
knew
what she was doing.
Miaren had serious doubts about her on several levels. But she was in
no
position to say a word to anyone, and she hoped should she as chief
medical
person need to step in and handle the situation she could.
The First Officer obviously was use to getting her own way, and not use
to
brooking with disappointment. But perhaps that was part of her problem,
she
was use to steam rolling everyone, and not use to someone standing up
to her
and telling her no.
Miaren put away her thoughts and focused on their current situation.
She was
ordered to follow the First Officer and a small group of others and
make
their way back to the quarters of the Marquis.
Miaren took readings again as they began to walk along a dense path and
she
noted the foliage as best she could in the darkness. The one thing she
had
noticed was, there was no radiation that she could see. The plant life
was
too rich and thick to survive radiation. There had also been no
mutation
that they could see. She was glad she had taken samples of everything.
Kaleb's words and his lessons resounding in her head as she collected
everything. Having worked most of her career in the lab, testing
everything, she was more prone to take more samples than less.
Miaren hoped that her findings would collaborate her opinion and
perhaps
also unlock what ever mystery this planet held. Miaren was more
concern
over Istria and her troubles about this place and her mixed up and
almost
deliberate wiping of her memory. Something had happened here, and she
was
ordered, and ..perhaps made to forget? Miaren knew enough that one
could
erase one's memory, but that sometimes something not known could
re-trigger
something, and then the memories would do anything to get back to where
they
belonged, causing much damage and major upset on the part of the
patient who
had not now their memories had been altered.
Miaren trudged behind the First Officer with the rest of their little
team
behind her. She let her thoughts wander and organize themselves so she
could
ask certain questions when given the chance, but she was also aware of
her
surroundings.
It appeared that they seem to be going deeper into the forest rather
than
moving towards a place of residence or a village or town of some sort.
Miaren puzzled the answer to the First Officer's question of the animal
life
on the planet. If all the animals were dead, what did they eat?
Humanoids
by design were meat eaters. They needed complex protein, and no amount
of
plant life would fill that need.
Unless..Miaren shook that thought away, altho it could explain a lot.
She
remembered visiting places on Earth that taught of the native ways, and
her
favorite place to learn all the exotic was the continent of Africa.
Even
now small groups of what were known as Bushman still existed as they
had
done for over 25,000 years. And the Masai, the nomads; who mixed blood
from
animals into the milk to aid in their need for protein.
As Miaren's thoughts weaved and danced before her, she made mental
notes of
the other sites she also saw and tried to work up a good hypothesis to
set
before her superiors and hopeful help with the mission and learn of the
mystery of this place.
If Miaren was not positive she was over reacting, she would have sworn
she
was in an old classic B thriller with a deadly mystery at the end of
the
path. After what seemed like ages and her calf muscles wondering just
was
all the strain was about they rounded the path and were standing in
front of
the gate that led to the..castle?
I am in a Classic B thriller, all we need now is rain, and I will have
my
proof we are being taken to our doom Miaren murmured to herself. As if
the
fates had listened to her and granted her wish. it began to rain.
"Shall we?" The Marquis offered to his new guests. "We need to hurry
out of
this rain; it is not healthy for you." The Marquis turned and led them
up
the path.
I'm gonna be So pissed if I am turned into a zombie." Miaren muttered
to
herself. She contacted the lab and made sure they had their bearings,
and
then sent off more information on the trip to this place. She left
another
message for Andrew and reminded him what she needed. Just as she
stepped
over the threshold of the Castle gate into the outer courtyard, her com
link
went dead.
This was SO not good. She thought. She looked to see if anyone else
had
noticed and saw they were all happy at the sight before them. Montana
did
not look to please, but then she did wear that permanent frown on her
face
as if she was always displeased with something or someone. But right
now,
she seemed to be the only one who did not think this was a fun lark in
the
park.
Miaren stepped up behind the First Officer. "Commander." Miaren
whispered
and nudged her. "We might have a problem; my com link went dead the
moment
we stepped over the threshold."
Miaren was not prepared for the glaring look she received when Montana
turned to study her.
[TAG Tree - Montana notice anything? TAG - Josh - so HOW generous IS
the
Marquis?
TAG- anyone else left behind in the away team. Anything interesting
going
on?]
[SUMMARY]
Miaren is surprised that Montana is breaking up the away team. She is
ordered to accompany her and a few others. Miaren sends in her
requests,
and asks Andrew for a favor. She then walks with the group and takes
notes
of the things she sees, while working through what she knows and things
already. She is not happy with the way this place is making her feel.
Just as she steps through the threshold of the castle, her com link
goes
dead.
