Subject: [Vampire-WW] Embracing the Night

Scene: Vincent's suite at Redemption, Night 8

Kathryn awoke groggily, her throat parched. She moaned quietly as she
struggled to rise, her body wrapped in sheets and blankets. She could
not
think clearly, and her struggles only led her to become more entangled.
She
could only think of her thirst, and could not understand why she could
not
move freely.

"Here, my sweet." A voice filtered through the haze and into her
consciousness. "Drink. The first night is always the most difficult to
arise
from."

Warm, thick liquid passed her lips and into her mouth, and she moaned
again
at the taste of it. So sweet and divine. It was like standing in the
blazing
sun, letting the bright rays purify and rejuvinate.

The haze slowly drifted away, and the cup was taken from her, all too
soon.

Hands took her head gently and turned it slightly. The voice came to
her,
more clearly now. "Kathryn. Kathryn, my love. Look at me."

The fog lifted, and Kathryn gazed into Vincent's eyes. He smiled as he
saw
recognition in her eyes, and kissed her forehead.

"Vincent?" she said, "last night...?"

Strange, frightening images flooded Kathryn's mind. Sensations of
pleasure
mixed with passion and pain-that-wasn't-pain. And fear - first the
memories
of her flight from Danielle, and then Vincent's disconcerting
explanations
of Vampires and things of the night.

He had said that she was a monster, and that he was too...

But Vincent was all she had - she loved him more than life itself.
Would die
for him.

How could he be a monster? She just didn't understand.

Vincent reached out and stroked Kathryn's cheek. "The night is young
still.
Perhaps you would like to freshen up first? I laid out some clothes for
you
as well. Something more appropriate for the start of your new life." He
got
back to his feet with a smile. "I need to tend to some things
downstairs,
but I shall return shortly."

"But ..." Kathryn began.

"Soon, my sweet, soon." He soothed, then went down the short hall and
out of
the apartment.

Kathryn wrapped herself in the blankets for comfort. Where had Vincent
gone?
How could he leave her at a time like this?

Disentangling herself from the bedclothes, Kathryn expected to shiver
from
the cold - but didn't. She picked up her dress and the thin coat she
had
worn in her headlong flight last night - they had dried by now - and
ventured into the hallway.

"Vincent?" she called, softly, but there was no reply. It seemed that
he'd
left the apartment, but why? If he was going out, surely he'd have
brought
her too? Unless perhaps he was going to see Danielle...

Opening the door, she looked out into the short hallway leading to the
stairs down to the club. The music and din was too loud for her, even
upstairs. Wincing a bit at the noise, she walked down the other way to
the
end of the hall, which ended at a large window opening out to a fire
escape.
Slipping out the window, she stepped out into the soft darkness, and
smiled.
Everything looked so beautiful at night, such a contrast from the
hostile
rain that had been her last experience of 'outdoors'. By the second,
her
feelings of confidence and contentment were increasing. Vincent would
be
nearby, and she would find him.

And if not..? Well, he could find her! Laughing aloud, Kathryn twirled
around like a playful child, her hair and her coat swirling around her.
Suddenly, she felt more *alive*. She heard the rustlings of the leaves,
of
tiny creatures going about their night-time errands. The shadows had
more
depth and shade than she'd ever noticed before. They had *texture*.

A small smile on her lips, she strode out into the darkness.

"Ah, what a most wonderful surprise." A voice cooed when she exited the
alley. Kathryn turned to see Adrian stepping out of an expensive sports
car.
Henry got out as well, and slowly walked around the front of the car as
Adrian continued.

"It is so good to see you again, Kathryn. It seems that the Lady
Danielle
has been missing your presence, dear one, and so I have come to serve
as
escort for you ..."

Henry laid a hand on Adrian's shoulder and whispered into his ear.
Surprise
crossed Adrian's face, as he looked more intently at Kathryn.

"My, my." Adrian said with a smile. Though speaking to Henry, his eyes
remained on Kathryn. "Vincent has been busy, hasn't he? I am not sure
if the
Lady will be pleased about that."

With a sigh, he opened the passenger door to the car. "Come now, dear
Kathryn."

Kathryn blinked, suddenly and unpleasantly brought back to the present.
This
wasn't in her plans at all. Danielle was someone she definitely
*didn't*
want to see right not, certainly not until Vincent had explained to her
exactly what was going on. She had been feeling so *good*, enjoying the
sensations of the night and - until now - managing to block out those
disquieting thoughts of monsters and vampires. As well as her fear of
Danielle.

She admitted that now - she feared Danielle. There was a power about
the
strange, blonde woman, and she could sense that Vincent was wary of her
too.
Kathryn was sure he had good reason.

This was important - she had to think clearly now. With an effort, she
chased away the dazzling sensations of the night, and forced herself to
concentrate, stalled for time to give herself more time to think.

"But I'm sorry," she said. "I can't, not now,"

"Ah, but I don't think you understand," Adrian said. "I said that the
Lady
Danielle wishes to see you."

The meaning was implicit - she had no choice in the matter.

Licking her lips, Kathryn forced herself to breathe deeply, to calm
herself.
Strange, how the sensation of breathing seemed so alien... Pushing the
thought from her mind, she felt her resolve wavering. Why had she left
Vincent's apartment, where it was safe and warm?

"But I can't!" she gulped. Kathryn ducked her head and turned to run.

She all but ran into Adrian, who suddenly appeared in front of her,
despite
having turned her back to him just a moment ago. Shocked and
bewildered, she
instead half-stumbled backwards, and gave out a gasp as hands clasped
her
shoulders from behind. Henry's grip was gentle, but firm.

Adrian sighed as he stepped forward. "Now, now, my dear, we wouldn't
want to
upset Lady Danielle any further by refusing her invitation, now would
we?"

For a moment, Kathryn tensed, ready to fight and kick, scratch and
bite, but
just as rapidly all the retaliation flowed out of her, and she
shrugged,
defeated. Somehow she *knew* it was pointless to resist.

"Of course not," she murmured. She glanced around, hoping upon hope
that
Vincent would suddenly appear and rescue her, but she was alone with
Adrian
and Henry.

Attempting to salvage some dignity, she lifted her head, and said,
"Alright
then."

The two vampires escorted Kathryn to the car. Henry got into the
cramped
back seat, and Adrian held the door for her so she could sit down in
the
passenger seat. The car was stylish, even more so that Vincent's.
Adrian got
in on the driver's side, and locked the doors from the door panel. He
smiled
at her, and then pulled out into traffic.

NRPG: Poor Kathryn, can't seem to keep out of trouble. :) More to
come.

Jointly submitted:
Carina Norris, aka Kathryn Church, newly embraced Toreador
and
Chris Ackney, aka Vincent, Adrian and Henry, clan Toreador
