Subject: [DL-N] Did I hurt you?

[Day 5 evening]

{Snip from Ed's post}

Jale's hand reached and turned Freya's face up toward his own. Their
eyes locked together. What was only a moment in time the healer etched
that face into his mind to last for all his life. "No, I will not have
you look away from me. When I came here my heart was but ice. Yet,
under your gaze it has come alive."

Pulling her to him he bent his head slightly and took her lips upon his
and drank in her love. His body felt on fire and tears ran from his
eyes as though to quench the raging inferno that had ignited in such a
simple thing as a kiss. What was a moment was like an eternity that
Jale wished never to end.

The moment did pass and the two separated. Jale had the mixed feelings
of embarrassment and joy. Realizing his face was wet he pulled out a
handkerchief and dabbed his eyes. Then he offered his arm once again
and escorted her to the searching quarters.

"So um," Jale gulped out. "What did you make of those bones?" Jale
started trying to get control of his mind again.

His reward was Pearl laughing in his mind. **You kiss the girl and you
want to talk about bones? You humans are a strange lot**

Jale realized Freya too was laughing, and he shot her a shocked
expression and they both began to laugh. She hugged his arm, "Oh I
don't know I was more thinking of something else."

The healer blushed and glanced up at the night sky. "Yes well." Not
knowing what else to say. He hugged her back as they continued their
walk.

{end snip}

Realising she had a big smile on her face, Freya was grateful that the
light cast by the moon was soft and dim. <For goodness sakes, Freya,
this isn't like you. You're acting like a silly child!> she scolded
herself. But she couldn't help herself. Her heart was full to bursting,
and all because Jale loved her too.

She didn't know what to say, but somehow there was no need for words.
Being close to Jale was enough.

Eventually the two healers arrived at Freya's small apartment. Suddenly
she realised she didn't know what to do next. If she invited him in,
would he think she was being too forward? If she didn't, would he feel
rejected?

Freya sighed inwardly. Jale was so different to the other men she'd
known, so special. She didn't want to wreck this before it even
started.

Leaning forward, she s****d her hand behind Jale's head and drew him
closer. Their lips met again and they kissed, first gently, then
deeply.

Freya's hand stroked Jale's white hair, then gently stroked his face,
finally coming to rest on the scar around his throat. Unconsciously,
she traced the scar with her finger.

Jale flinched, and Freya jumped back as if she'd been burned.

"I'm so sorry!" she whispered, her eyes distraught. "Did I hurt you?"

Summary

Evening day 5

Freya and Jale walk back to Freya's apartment, and Freya agonises over
whether she should ask him in. They kiss, and Jale flinches when Freya
touches the scar around his throat.

Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] Dreaming

<The night before MD 3, Istria's cabin>

Istria awoke and sat bolt upright in her bed. This was the second time
she'd
had the dream now. Or maybe even the third. But the first time she'd
remembered
any of it. She was *sure* it was the same dream, only the first time
(or
times?) she'd awoken with only a feeling of unease, as if she were
being ...
watched.

She frowned, rubbing her eye, and the smooth skin of her empty eye
socket.
This was pathetic. Istria just *didn't* dream. Until now. There had
been a
voice calling her, imploring her to stay, to come back. He had said he
loved
her, needed her. The voice had been so familiar, had tugged so strongly
at
her, yet she had no memory of the man behind it. No clear picture
either.

Giving up on sleep, Istria swung her long legs over the edge of the
bunk,
pulled on her uniform, and put on the eye-patch that had become such a
part
of her identity.

She felt something touch her ankle and looked down to see the small
ginger
kitten she had 'inherited' after Orla's departure. Istria's views on
pets
were well known - 'psychological crutches for needy individuals' - and
she
had not been well pleased when Montana had said in no uncertain terms
that
the feline was the CSciO's responsibility now, and should be kept under
control, and out of Avi's way. She had been most emphatic about that.
Istria
had managed to persuade Maria to care for the cat for much of the time,
but
all too often the feline waif ended up back in Istria's cabin.

"Go away," she whispered, pu****ng the little cat gently away with her
foot.

But Lost just rubbed and nuzzled all the more, and jumped up on the bed
to
be closer to her, rearing up on his back legs

Istria didn't believe in the 'dreams as messages' theories. So, she
thought.
why was her brain chewing over some old memory, thought or unfulfilled
desire in this particular way, and why now?

Why now was easy. She was under stress. Returning to the planet that
had
cost her the lives of the cadets in her care, her eye, her reputation
and
very nearly her sanity and her life.

But stress was no excuse. She sat back down on her bunk and leant
forward,
elbows on knees, chin on hands, to think.

Somehow, this planet was stirring up something in her mind, and she
didn't
like the implications. The voice belonged to no one she recognised, so
obviously it represented some unfulfilled yearning - to be needed, to
belong.

Istria sniffed derisively, and stood up, straightening her uniform.

Ridiculous! Stress, that's all it was.

MD 3:Around midnight on the Planet]

Lt. jg Moran Orgola was the first to stumble across the corpse of the
fallen crewman. "Get some light over here!" He yelled trying to make
out the prone form on the ground.

Zefla appeared behind him with spotlight in hand and both recoiled at
the sight of the remains of what had once been Ensign Martinelli.

The Klingon half-breed let loose with a guttural oath that would have
impressed Kahless himself. The tall muscular blonde nodded in
agreement. It didn't take a Klingon to understand Orgola's comment.
"Jeeezzzus,* she muttered turning away from the bloody scene.

A loud crash sounded as one of the field lamps fell down and the far
side of the perimeter went dark. "C'mon, there's nothing we can do for
him now! We need to get that light back up!" Moran commanded pulling
the blonde marine out of the scrub. He could feel eyes watching them
and knew this definitely wasn't the safest place to be at the moment.

As the couple re-entered the circle of light another blood curdling
scream accompanied by phaser fire had the two sprinting across the open
area to help. Ury could be heard issuing commands to secure the area.
"Get that light back up!" He yelled, taking aim at a pair of glowing
eyes peering through the brush.

The snarling Tiger had the creatures scurrying through the forest
around the perimeter of the Shuttle. The humans were tempting targets
and their hunger was overriding their fear of the great cat. They were
out in unusually large numbers tonight and the Tigress knew that she
couldn't stop them all, simply because she couldn't be in two places at
once as more cries came from opposite ends of the perimeter. Taking to
the trees she made a quick *****sment from her lofty perch. There were
more approaching and she was sure the loud excited squeals and grunts
from the nasty beasts was a call to dinner.

A hard of wind had her branch swaying and the big cat dug in her claws
to steady herself. Greenish-yellow eyes lifted skyward, the dark nose
took in the smells of the night. A storm was brewing and from the
swirling mass of angry clouds closing in it looked to be a bad one.
Hopefully her old friend had the wisdom to get back to the ****p while
the getting was good. But in the meantime Starfleet needed to know
exactly what they were fighting ....the tiger crouched on the limb her
powerful muscles ready to spring. For a brief moment all sounds ceased
to exist except for the steady drumming of her own heart. Large feline
eyes began to glow, the smell of death permeating the air. Three of the
beasts moved closer to the edge of light, huddling in wait for one of
the their prey to move closer.

Moran hurried over to his boss who was moving a bit to close to danger
for his tastes. It wasn't hard to figure out that the large lights was
the only reason this unseen enemy held back, at least so far.
"Lieutenant, we gotta get out of here there are several wounded and a
storm is coming in!" As if in answer a steak of lightening flashed
across the sky illuminating the area with an eerie glow the bodies of
human and beast shown on the fringes of the forest in the greenish
after light.

"Get everybody back to the shuttle!" Ury nodded then tapped his comm
badge giving the same order to the entire team. Then calling the ****p,
"Captain we are under attack, we have several wounded and there's a
storm brewing. We're retreating to the shuttle for a beam out!" Another
flash of lightening hitting a tree nearby had the crew scrambling and
Ury's comm badge crackled loudly and went dead..

The creatures, protected against the elements by their wiry coat lay in
wait for their chance. The bright lights kept them at bay for the
moment but some had actually reasoned that by knocking the strange
things over the brightness would go away and shortly two of the
perimeter lights fell the tall pole like lamps making a horrible
shattering sound as they hit the ground. The urgent calls of the Away
Team as they hurried about helping the wounded to safety was drowned
out by booming thunder that was growing louder by the minute.

Stalking her prey as they stalked theirs, the tiger silently crept
forward along the limb. As the tall redheaded man turned to move away a
bolt of lightening laced across the sky, streaks of light spreading out
like gnarled fingers with one striking a nearby light. She saw the man
duck as the light exploded sending showers of sparks and shards of
glass everywhere.

With the brightness now mostly gone the beastly trio chose that moment
to lunge from their hiding place. The tiger's bone chilling roar
sounded over the howling wind and the alerted redhead spun his phaser
firing at the grotesque creatures, the leader going down instantly. A
snarling streak of orange fury crashed into the other two and the
tangle of bodies rolled across the clearing, the sounds of death
blotting out all else as the great cat tore into flesh and sinew. The
second died instantly, the third severely wounded tried to retreat but
was caught between the man and it's greatest fear. But there would be
no mercy tonight as the tigress charged the beast her massive weight
breaking its spine with her deadly tackle. Huge fangs bit into the
hairy hide spraying the officer with blood. Assured of the kill she
looked to the man.

Their eyes looked for a moment then his dropped to the blood covered
amulet dangling from the tiger's neck and the feline saw once again the
flicker of recognition in the man's eyes. *"Go my friend while you
still can!"* The words floated like a whisper in the feline roar.

Her hind quarters suddenly jerked around and a yelp of pain erupted
from the big cat as a phaser blast stung her flank. Shaking herself
from the tingling sensation that rippled through her the tigress turned
to the shuttle and saw the familiar officer standing there ready to
fire again, his eyes widening when the animal didn't go down.

"Ury get in here!" Orgola called out hoping his boss heard him over the
sounds of the storm

"Hold your fire!" the Security Chief yelled running for the shuttle.

*So much for gratitude!*. the tiger thought with a sigh. *Dumb humans,
they never learn!* With a flick of her tail the striped cat darted into
the dense foliage.

[On the bridge]

<Snip>

Neither her or the First Officer can be reached." Istria replied
softly. "It appears they followed someone called the marquis."

<End Snip>

"I have been apprised of the situation Lieutenant!" The Capricorn
Captain said in a grim tone, the droning of the communications officer
repeating her message to the away team to the planet going unanswered.

"Captain, a storm has suddenly appeared on the planet directly in the
area above the Away Team." One of the bridge staff noted.

Istria quickly moved to check the console readouts. "It's quite severe
too, sir!"

Avi tapped his com badge. [Ensign Kuma, is your team ready? I think Lt.
Rogan could use some back up about now!]

[Ready on your command, Sir!] The voice echoed across the bridge.

Suddenly crackling came over the comm and Ury Rogan's broken barely
audible message about a retreat, several wounded and a beam out before
the link went dead.

"Captain!! I've having a hard time keeping a lock on the Away Team.
There's a lot of interference from the storm but I've also been
tracking an ion storm that appeared several minutes ago. It was on a
path away from us Sir, but it's strangely turned and is headed right
for us. ETA is 4 minutes!"

Avi Reckage was not prone to outbursts, but several noted the deep
frown and his lips moving under his breath. Tapping buttons on the
console of his chair, [Ensign Kuma, stand down! Sickbay get ready to
receive wounded!] Then glancing over his shoulder. "Wade, get that
trans****ter lock back and get them out of there now!"

"Aye Sir!" The Chief Petty Officer answered crisply his hands flying
over the panel.

"Sir, the storm on the planet has moved directly over Lt. Rogan's
team." Another crewman said.

"What about the Commander and the Doctor!" Avi added, doing his best to
keep the worry from his voice.

"We still can't make contact Captain and there's nothing on the
scanner. No signal from their comm badges, nothing! That ion storm is
moving fast and going directly between us and the planet. We'll be cut
off...

"Wade?" Avi asked never taking his eyes from the view screen.

It was if the bridge itself held its breath and waited as the
Operations Officer worked feverishly at his station.

"I don't think I need to explain the urge.." Avi said sitting ramrod
straight now, his fingers digging into the armrests of his chair.

"I got 'em!"

MD 4: Shortly after midnight

<Snippets>

Montana took in the room and
studied it carefully and finally her eyes turned to the bed and saw
what
Miaren was looking at.

"Interesting."

"Is that ALL you are gonna say?" Miaren asked simply. She just could
not
believe that is all the woman had to say.

"For now...yes." Montana responded. She stepped to the dress and held
it
up. "Interesting." She again commented. The dress appeared to fit her
to
perfection. This was unusual, seeing as she was so statuesque. Most of
her
gowns had to be specially fitted.

Not that she wore a lot of gowns, and in fact avoided such things
whenever possible, something she was quite good at, but it was
beautiful by any means. Of course the color left a lot to be desired,
and yet? Despite the fact that she wasn't about to let herself be
swayed by female finery Montana found herself running her fingers over
the soft blood red velvet material. "It is beautiful!" She whispered
under her breath then shaking her head to rid her mind of the fuzziness
that kept intruding. The Marquis was up to something of that she was
sure, but what? Was the man a telepath of some sort? Is that why in his
presence she felt like her head was going to explode

"Commander!" Miaren quipped, the widening of her eyes told Montana that
the words had come out sharper then intended.

"Yes Doctor?" The tall redhead answered raising a quizzical brow at the
shorter woman.

"Beggin' your pardon Ma'am, but I feel I should..."

The XO raised her hand to silence the woman, "You objections have been
duly noted!"

The Doctor frowned in confusion, "But I didn't...."

"Say anything...no Doctor, you don't have to! This whole situation has
been highly irregular from the start! But we are in a first contact
situation and each one is different, so therefore we must do our best
to be compliant to their culture without giving too much away and still
maintain the Prime Directive." Montana's face softened a little and a
faint smile came to her lips, "Doctor listen, I do understand your
concerns. But something strange is going on here and I want to know
what it is!" Picking up the gown she moved towards the elaborate silken
dressing screen in the corner. "I learned long ago that sometimes a
solution requires going into the lions den. She almost gagged when she
lifted the dress, "So, when in Rome..." Striping of her wet uniform she
slipped into the gown enjoying the feel of the material against her
skin. Smoothing the ruby colored dress into place Montana gasped aloud
almost choking at the plunging neckline and just how form fitting the
style really was.

"Is everything ok Ma'am!" The Doctor asked from behind her own screen.

"Just fine..I think!" Montana answered with a roll of her eyes as the
two women stepped from behind the screens at the same time.

"Oh! You look lovely Commander! I'm sure the Captain would love
..."Miaren blurted out and instantly turned the color of Montana's gown.
"I.I.." Miaren stammered.

The tall redhead smirked, "Don't worry about it Doctor. You look quite
nice yourself. That's a good color for you. But we must remember why we
are here," She said more for herself then the Doctor as she clipped on
her comm badge. Even though her words said one thing the XO couldn't
help but be drawn towards the mirror on the vanity. She just had to
see..

"Good lord! I.I .look li..lik."

"You look beautiful and like you said, when in Rome." It was Miaren's
turn to smirked adding her badge to her gown and picking up her
tricorder.

The lanky redhead slowly shook her head with a sigh. It was a good
thing Avi wouldn't see her in this. He'd probably petition Starfleet
for it to become the new female uniform.

"Commander, I would like to speak freely for a moment!" Montana nodded,
so the Doctor explained her findings and fears.

"Doctor, I will be honest I do not like my judgement question, but
because of the cir***stances I will explain myself this one time. I
know you are well aware that we weren't alone at the landing site. I
felt it was best that we split up and accept the hospitality of the
Marquis so that Lt. Rogan's team could work more freely and without too
much interruption. Plus, it gives us a chance to take more readings.
This dampening field you have discovered puzzles me. Many years ago
something terrible happened here Doctor, something that has never been
explained and I want to find out what it is." Of course Montana wasn't
about to add that there was something about the Marquis that drew her
like a bee to honey which was disturbing to say the least. Pursing her
lips she gazed down at the dark-haired woman. "Don't worry, Tate and
Bradshaw are across the hall and Martin and Lewis will have already
informed the other members of the team and the ****p by now."

[..] MD: 1300

Despite the severe weather the Tiger followed an age-old path, one that
she had traveled many times. Not far from the castle gate the smell of
fresh blood hung heavy in the air and the big cat froze her ears
instantly flattening against her head. The sound of squeals and snorts
told her that more of the creatures were nearby. Silently dropping to
the ground she crept forward an inch at a time, the powerful muscles in
the stripped body rippling in anticipation. Peeking through the
undergrowth her eyes narrowed as she could just make out a small group
of the creatures huddled over something, the greedy slavering sounds
they were making could be heard over the howling wind. Probably eating
one of their own wounded she thought until one moved and a flash of
color shown like a beacon when again the sky lit up. The air crackled
around them as the bolt of lightening struck the ground nearby and the
Tiger's hair raised on it's own volition. Starfleet! But who? A
sickening feeling formed in the pit of the tiger's stomach and a deadly
rumble began in the back of her throat, the terrifying sound hidden by
a clap of thunder.

The big cat moved so fast they didn't see her coming and her charge
scattered the disgusting beasts sending them screaming into the eerie
darkness. Sniffing the air she walked in a circle around the pile of
bloody flesh, bones and material until she was assured that she was
alone. A familiar chirp sounded as she stepped on a comm badge in the
darkness and the cat jumped sideways unfortunately stepping on another
in the process. Swatting at the bloodied piece she mentally took a head
count of the humans she'd seen. Nosing a blood soaked tuff of hair,
then pieces of the uniforms she distinguished the human scent finding
both unfamiliar and with the bodies as unrecognizable as they were she
had no idea who this was.

Rustling in the bushes and hushed grunts let her know the beasts hadn't
gone far. There was nothing she could do for these two now, and with
the storm worsening she needed to get under cover. Walking away the
tiger stopped, hesitating she looked back, the greenish yellow eyes
coming to rest on a communications badge. It just might come in handy.
Going back the large animal very carefully scooped it up with her mouth
then headed towards the nearest tree.

[..] Several minutes later.

A small black cat trotted easily across the drawbridge leading into the
castle, noting that the usually semi-dry moat was fast filling with
water. With the blood spattered comm badge in her mouth the soaked
feline slid through the cracks in the heavy wooden gate disappearing
into the 'dry' parts of the castle.

{Tag: Tag to anyone that wants to join in and for refernce Petra would

to where she puts it..that remains to be seen.}
