Subject: [USS Capricorn] Piecing together
MD3, around 22.00
[USS Capricorn, Medical Lab]
[Istria, Myrah and Andrew]
<snip from Carys's post>
After an hour or so, they still did not have a lot to go on, but one
thing
was clear. Nothing they had been told concerning the planet surface
had
been totally correct. There were too many subtle differences to make
it
just a coincidence.
<end snip>
The tension was palpable, but suddenly the atmosphere in the room
lifted.
"I brought you some coffee!" came Tre-Hani's high, bright voice, and
the
three looked around to see the little Trinoan Counsellor bearing a tray
of
three steaming mugs.
"Black with lots of sugar - that's good, isn't it?" she said,
hopefully.
"Perfect," said Andrew, taking a mug. "Just what the doctor ordered!"
"Or would do if she were here..." murmured Istria, though she too took
a
mug.
With Tre-Hani sitting with them, swinging her feet, the three
scientists
discussed Miaren's findings, comparing them with Istria's report from
all
those years ago.
But Istria knew that Tre-Hani's happy vibes weren't helping her thought
processes. Yes, she felt relaxed, but she knew she need to think, hard.
"Sorry, Tre-Hani," she said, in a much kinder tone than she'd normally
have
used. "I just need to be on my own for a while, okay?"
Picking up her coffee mug she smiled at Andrew and Myrah, and strolled
out
to her private office.
Once outside the Trinoan's aura, Istria felt the familiar tension
returning
to her shoulders, and gave a grim smile. *that's better*.
Placing her PADD on the desk, she took a slug of the sweet coffee and
pulled
a face. *Why do those little green nectar drinkers think everyone likes
things *sweet*?*
She ran her fingers through her short hair and settled down to work.
Point one. On her first mission, the locals had said that it was
dangerous
to work during the day because of the high radiation levels - but the
levels
were perfectly safe.
And Istria had simply accepted this - not like her at all. She'd
decided
that perhaps the native race were particularly sensitive to ultraviolet
radiation, or thought that Istria's team might be. But what did it
matter -
Istria had been employed for a geological survey for Starfleet and an
unnamed company, combined with a training mission for a group of
Starfleet
Cadets and students. So she simply got on with that.
Istria not asking questions? Not like her at all...
She continued studying her report. All the data on the rare mineral she
had
discovered had been erased.
Then there were the animals. She *thought* she remembered animals from
her
first mission. But Miaren had said that the Marquis - why did that name
send
a strange twitch through her mind? - told them that the animals had
'died
off a long time ago'.
Why? How?
And what about the large number of life forms the Capricorn's away team
had
detected around the shuttle site?
People? Animals? Was the Marquis lying to them? Or were these the
creatures
that Miaren said he feared?
And Miaren's strange findings - the Marquis's intriguing physiology -
could
he really not be ageing? Istria would dearly have loved to get a sample
to
analyse!
But back to the two things that bothered her most - her apparent lack
of
interest in the inconsistencies of the Marin people's insistence that
they
work only at night, and her vague impression that there was something
*important* that she couldn't remember about them. And especially that
Marquis....
Her mind went back to her strange dreams. Could there be more to them
than
met the eye?
She drained the disgusting coffee, picked up the PADD, and returned to
find
Andrew and Myrah.
****
Tre-Hani was perched on a stool, humming softly and twiddling with a
tendril
of long, silvery hair. Myrah and Andrew were chuckling over some
private
joke.
When she saw Istria's stern expression, Tre-Hani sighed dramatically,
smiled
sweetly, slid off the seat and sashayed out the room.
"Bye folks," she said, "Things to do, people to annoy..."
Istria placed the PADD on the table.
"Nothing adds up," she said.
As she explained her concerns - minus the disconcerting dreams - to her
companions, their expressions became grim.
<snip from Carys>
[After the comm link goes dead and Andrew and Istria go to find Avi]
The door opened and the two stepped onto the bridge. Avi hearing the
doors turned to face them. A look of surprise on his face but then
when his
eyes met Istria he straightened himself and nodded.
"What do I owe this honor to?" he asked, altho he was pretty sure he
knew
it had to do something with the away team and the planet below. He was
not
sure why Lt MacNab of Ops was here with Istria, but he was sure this
would be interesting.
"We have a serious problem and it needs to be handled." Andrew spoke
up.
"Mia..Doctor Hywell has sent her first part of her findings, and they
do
not match up with what we have been told of this place."
"Interesting" Avi commented.
"And just now in the middle of her message we lost all communications
with
her."
Avi nodded. "This does happen sometimes." He tried to console them.
"The away team has been attacked. Several injured and 2 missing."
Andrew
added
"Neither her or the First Officer can be reached." Istria replied
softly.
"It appears they followed someone called the marquis."

[SUMMARY]
MD3, approx 2200, science area, USS Capricorn
* Tre-Hani brings sweet black coffee - and feel-good vibes - to help
Andrew, Myrah and Istria to work.
* Istria decides she works better alone (ie without Tre-Hani) and
goes to
her office.
* She ponders on the fact that she didn't question the
inconsistencies in
her findings at the time of her previous visit to the Marin system,
especially the lack of 'dangerous radiation' that the Marquis
describes, and
the loss of the animals between her visit and the Capricorn's return.
* She also feels that she should remember something important. The
Marquis's name seems awfully familiar...
* Istria returns to Myrah and Andrew. Tre-Hani sees her presence
isn't
welcome and leaves.
* Istria and Andrew go to consult with Avi
