Subject: [WEB] - JP Shall We Dance
Day 23
Evening
Gala Event
[SNIP]
"Excuse me," a diffident voice interrupted the tension. "I believe the
next
dance is mine, Dr. Mac Creavey?"
Reprieve!
Fi grasped the (blessedly) boring Mr. Cavendish's hand gratefully.
"Yes,
Mr. Cavendish, it is. If you two g-" She abruptly cut off the word
'gentlemen'- "will excuse me."
Jamie smiled banally and nodded as he weaved his new partner through
the
crowd and moved her with a gentle ease onto the dance floor. Luckily
the
music was slow and very boring. He liked this kind of music that
allowed
him a chance to chat in a shallow level and size up his dance partner.
If
she proved worthy, he would indeed pursue.
Dr. Mac Creavey seemed to be rather uptight. She was rather nice
looking,
and Kysen had hinted that she just might be a fun companion for some
adventures.
Still, he would see. She did not look very comfortable..
"So, May I ask you what part of Medicine you have opted for?" He asked
smoothly.
Fi had been taking slow deep breaths to control the shaking she could
still
feel. It was with the greatest effort that she refrained from looking
back
over her shoulder to where she could feel the dogs...er, Kayn and
Lucien
standing. She startled slightly when Jamie spoke. Somehow she'd
thought
his boring safeness included disinterest. Well, at least he had
manners.
"Not medicine," she corrected. "I have a PhD in chemistry."
Jamie smiled and nodded in his role of benign dance partner.
Ahh, A PhD.in chemistry no less." He replied with new interest. One
did not
usually meet a charming woman with brains. He had been intrigued with
her
cutting wit and he did have a hard time hiding the smile her retort
caused.
"So, with such a degree.. research? Or private sector."
Fi only just managed not to roll her eyes. Why was it people's visions
were
so limited? You chose the ivory tower or the money - there was never a
third
option - of service. She checked her annoyance. Be fair, she chided
herself, you accepted his dance offer because he was one of the boring
elite; it's not fair to get upset with for it.
She answered calmly, "A little of both, actually. I work in the NYPD
crime
lab."
"Really!?" he replied honestly impressed. She did not look like the
blood
and guts type. "So, you are like those CSI's we see on TV?" he asked
in a
half joking manner. She was really kinda cute, even though she was
really
up-tight. Perhaps he could help in her unwinding.
"No," Fi replied sharply, unreasonably annoyed. "Nothing like that
crap on
TV. Crime scene doesn't make arrests, doesn't EVER look that good, nor
do
they have that expensive of wardrobes and homes." She took a deep
breath,
trying to stop her ranting. "Besides, I'm not crime scene, I'm in the
lab.
I only have to visit the scenes when I'm the one on call."
Jamie smiled and spun her around gracefully and let a bit of silence
come
between them. She was definitely passionate. She hid it well, which
was
fine with him. Made it all the more fun. He would have to thank Ky
for
pointing her out.
"I did not mean to demean your profession." He said after a decent
pause in
their conversation. "So, you are the ones who do all the testing on
the
samples." He replied evenly.
"It must make you feel a degree of satisfaction when you can put
someone who
deserves it behind bars." He replied. He understood than part of it.
He
too had enjoyed the hidden rewards of one's choice of career. Even when
others did not.
Fi blinked in surprise. She wouldn't have expected this scion of the
rich
to get it. "Yes," she agreed fervently. "Exactly so. The more so as
the
evidence I see is all black and white. You don't have to wonder if
there's
another interpretation." She smiled a little wryly. "Not too many
other
things in life are so clear cut."
Jamie smiled and nodded. He was really enjoying this dance. If he had
his
way he would find a way to excuse them both and slip out for a good
long
chat..over coffee, somewhere unnoticeable. He opened his inner senses
and
realized she was not there yet..it might take a few more dances...a few
calls on the phone...even a few days before she would be ready to open
up
more.
He was very intrigued to what she held so close to her vest. Ky hinted
at a
few things, and altho he did not understand, he agreed to give her a
dance.
Now, he would like more.
"No, they are not. It seems we have taken something very cut and
dried..black and white as you say and make it more complicated than
necessary." He smiled and spun her again. He did enjoy dancing, and
without the call from Ky, he would have begged off this evening.
Jamie could not stand the circle his mother walked in. He knew he was
the
only thing she had left to help her remind herself of what her standing
and
importance was. This he did not mind doing on special occasions.
Tonight
he was glad he had taken the bait from Kysen.
"What do you do in your spare time..if you have any Dr? Or may I have
the
privilege of perhaps using your first name?" he asked in a teasing way,
that
did not carry too much seriousness.
"It's Fionula," Fi responded, bemused. How so like Ky to forget
something
so important. "I'm sorry, I can't believe Kysen forgot to mention it."
She
ducked her head to hide her amusement and muttered, "more blonde than
usual."
"Fionula." He said softly with a smile. "I like it, altho I would
gather
you go by Fiona? Or is it more simple.Fi?" he asked with a smile. He
nodded
as he knew it was Fi. " It fits you."
The music led the way as they moved across the floor as he listened to
her
as she spoke of her other activities.
She turned her attention to his first question. Did she really want to
tell
this stranger anything? She contemplated the conversational
possibilities in
sculpture and shrugged. It was only one dance, see what happened. "I
read
a lot, but I also do some small sculpting."
A vague impression crossed her mind of a cinnamon-colored tail adroitly
avoiding the dancing feet and she grinned helplessly, thankful that
Dwyn
wasn't here. "My cat takes up an amazing amount of my time, as well."
"You sculpt as well? You are a treasure trove of hidden talents." He
whispered softly in her ear. "I am an appreciator of fine art." He
finished
his thought.
He pulled back again, to give her the space he knew somehow she needed
and
liked. She was a feisty independent one. Almost like a cat. He smiled
to
himself. Her being more catlike did not bother him at all. He
understood
them.
Fi had pulled back slightly away from the suggested intimacy of the
whisper,
but relaxed again as her partner moved away as well. "I wouldn't call
it
fine art," she demurred.
"You have a cat as well?" he responded as he heard that add on. "I
enjoy
cats, I find them fascinating creatures."
Her face lit up, though, at his mention of cats. HOW Dwyn had taken
her
over so completely so quickly, she didn't know - but she knew she
didn't
have to. "Yes, utterly fascinating. Dwyn is 20 pounds of mischief.
How
can one relatively small creature create such havoc?"
Fi was graced with his deep and natural laugh; one that came from deep
within. She chuckled warmly as its infectious nature and they
continued
their dance and again a delicate silence between them.
Kysen looked out over the sea of people and watched for a time while
taking
in the panoramic view. She allowed the tinkling of glasses and the
happy
sounds of voices rising up to greet her, and help make the scene below
more
rich and full.
Her eye caught Fionula being led to the dance floor. She smiled
happily,
and was glad that her dearest of friends had found some enjoyment
tonight.
She watched for a bit and when she saw whom she was with her smile
grew.
Jamie! Oh Fi was with just the perfect one. Kysen fondly remembered
all
her fun with Jamie through the years. All the trouble they caused and
the
joy they had. She was glad she had met him again..after so long. He
was
still the dare-devil she remembered, and he hid it so well under that
boring
veneer that made up the life style he had been raised in.
In many ways Jamie and Kysen were a lot alike. He had only had more
practice
with it than she did. She happily turned to greet another late comer
and
escorted him down the stairs and chatted with him until he found the
party
to which he had been looking.
Jamie enjoyed the dance and was aware that the last of the strains were
beginning, and he would have to release her. He was most definitely
interested and he wished to spend more time unraveling the person from
behind that mask she wore.
He weaved them gently around the floor and when the music softly ended
they
found themselves hear the edge of the dance floor and near a sitting
area
close to a refreshment bar.
"I thank you for the dance Fi." He spoke softly, her name on his tongue
almost sounding erotic. "May I have the honor of another? Perhaps
later in
the evening?" he asked with all sincerity, altho he gave it just a
twist of
a nonchalance that belied his true feelings.
Against all expectations, Fi found the idea of another dance with this
blueblood not entirely repellant. If nothing else, she could possibly
avoid
Kayn that way. And, she had to admit, this Mr. Cavendish was an
excellent
dancer...and not too hard on the eyes. And he'd managed an entire
conversation without saying something offensive - an impressive
achievement
given his upbringing. She managed a bright smile.
"Yes, thank you, Mr. Cavendish. That would be lovely."
NRPG - no real tags, just keeping the party going
[SUMMARY]
Fionula is rescued from Kayn and Lucien and she finds she is now
dancing
with someone she would never have thought she would have been caught
dead
with. She and Jamie exchange light banter and both enjoy the dance.
When
the dance is over he releases her and gets a promise on a further dance
later in the evening.

Subject: [DL-D] Oh, What A Tangled Web We Weave!
Day 104 Early Afternoon Pandora's Apt
<Snip from John>
*Yep, now she just has to do her part,* T'rell said. *Let's give her
some incentive.*
[Okay!] Flerrion said, keeping his blackened, snarling visage in view
over the coppery queen's back, while unseen in the shadows he began to
tickle
Almantha's back feet with his claws. Not the kind of wyvern attack
Panda would
think was occurring, T'rell figured as he retreated to the farthest
corner of
the cave to await the explosion that was likely to occur in the next
few
seconds, but hopefully it would do under the circumstances.
<End Snip>
Almantha jerked at the sudden assault to the tender undersides of her
feet, <HEY GET OFF ME YA BIG DOPE! STOP THAT!>
{{Ummm, aren't you supposed to sound scared or something?)) Flerrion
asked hesitantly doing his best to look ferocious.
<I'M GONNA OR SOMETHING YOU, IF YOU DON'T QUIT!!!> The Queen hollered;
frantically wiggling her hind end to evade the tickling claws. <STOP!
STOP!> The sound of her roars were halfway between a giggle and anger
while the jerky movements began to actually cause her to become
entangled in the ropes.
**You know, you both could sound a little more convincing!** T'rell
muttered sharply from his hidden vantagepoint.
With her neck tangled in the ropes Almantha was barely able to turn her
head but it was enough to be able to snap angrily at the Wingleader,
her sharp fangs causing him to take a step back. "IS THAT CONVINCING
ENOUGH? C'MERE AND I'LL SHOW YOU HOW CONVINCING I CAN BE! GET OFF ME YA
BIG JERK! I'M GONNA BITE YOU SOOOO BAD! LET GO! WHOA, WAIT JUST A
MINUTE...GACCKK!.> Suddenly realizing that she really was stuck the
copper dragon panicked. <RIDERRRRRRRR...>
[..] Meanwhile in the Med Center
Pandora was at the small desk in the office with Andrew sitting across
from her. They had spent the better part of two hours going over supply
lists and she was feeling a bit rummy from staring at paperwork and
peeked over at the blonde healer through long lashes. Even though
Andrew had been the perfect gentleman and had not brought up the night
of the mating flight she still felt a bit embarrassed in his presence.
She wasn't sure why, but his opinion of her mattered and Pandora was
secretly thankful and quite pleased that he hadn't changed his attitude
towards her, or worse looked at her as if she was some sort of wanton
hussy.
They had just finished the final list for requisitions when the
dark-haired beauty was overcome by some very strange feelings from her
queen. Rubbing her temples she obviously must have made some sort of
face as Andrew immediately leaned towards her, "Pandora, are you okay!"
"Of course she's okay!" Palace exclaimed jovially as his huge frame
filled the doorway. "With us around to help what could be wrong!
Hmmm.." He said peering at the queenrider intently, "You do look a bit
peaked milady, maybe you should lie down a bit you have been working
rather hard, or we should take your temperature!" He added with a happy
wink.
The big man's cheerfulness made Pandora smile. One thing she could say
for Palace was that he had a definite way of brightening up a room when
he entered. "I'm fine gentleman, just some strange feelings from
Almantha is all. Sometimes, I just never know quite what to expect from
her."
Pandora didn't see the knowing look between the two men. They had been
around long enough to know the reputation of the copper dragon and the
faint look of sympathy was instantly replaced with a hearty laugh from
Palace, "Ya just never know about those dragons! I think maybe I'll
stick closer to the ground."
Reaching for the carafe of coffee on the desk the jr. queenrider
grinned, "I second that!"
Andrew smiled and straightening the last pile of papers on the desk,
"Pandora, since it seems we've finished how about we take a break and
head to the dini.."
Back at the cave apartment Almantha was gently cued on her role by the
Wingleader, not that it took much acting at this point.
<RIDERRRRRRRR...> One of the ropes was now cutting into her neck and
seriously starting to sting and Flerrion's sharp claws kept poking her
feet, and to add insult to injury he was sitting on tail of all things.
<RIDERRRR! ITS GOT ME!!!> She let loose with a shriek so convincing it
brought Pandora to her feet along with a few others around the warren..
"There's something wrong!" She cried out cutting off Andrew's words. A
stack of papers went flying as she brsuhed against them in her race for
the door the two men hurrying to follow.
[..] And out on the green
Lexi, Seth and Max had been working together around the warren the
better part of the day using the dragons for eyes, ears and cover. They
knew that the enemy had eyes everywhere so it was a matter of being as
unobtrusive as possible. Jason was on the green working with some of
the newer riders and he'd quietly kept watch keeping them informed of
the comings and goings. Occasionally the Beta Wingleader would shift
training pairs to cover their movements as the men carefully placed the
rockets they had received from Jasra in key areas all over the warren.
An attack was inevitable hopefully they would be ready for when it
came.
During their rambling wanderings Lexi realized he was being followed
but seeing it was the little girl that Sharees had taken in the
blacksmith wasn't too concerned, more puzzled by it then anything.
Hiding the last rocket he finally turned to gaze at Angel. The man and
the little girl stared at each other for several minutes. Growing
uncomfortable under her intense gaze he cleared his throat and walked
over to her, "So what can I do for you young lady?"
Angel looked him up and down then lifting her eyes to stare up at him,
"Why are you so mean?" she demanded with a childlike frown.
Lexi jerked back in surprise, "Now what makes you say...."
Samson's deep split the air stopping any conversation at that point.
The crimson giant had been napping when Almantha's cry woke him and his
sleepy jumbled warning about Wyverns attacking the young queen had the
big man looking at the hatching cavern, then to the copper dragon's
favorite ledge. As hiw eyes scanned the warren a jet of steam rising
from his sister's apartment caught his attention and the sight sent a
chill through his bones. Even from this far away he could see the
situation and it looked very grim indeed. The glowing eyes from the
darkness in the dragon entrance said it all. How the hell did they get
inside the warren without being seen, let alone into Panda's apartment?
Thoughts of what she had told about her earlier encounter with the
creatures ran through Lexi's mind. Had it come back to claim her?
Looking down at the child then quickly scanning the area he scooped her
up and took off running towards the closest haven that he could see
which was the dining hall. Depositing the little girl at the door,
"Angel, you get inside with Realee right now and stay there until
Sharees or I come for you!" His tone brooked no argument as he sprinted
off towards his sister's apartment mind speaking to the reddish giant
as he went.
Almantha was so intent now on getting loose and to get the big lug off
her tail she didn't realize that her caterwauling was drawing quite a
lot of attention and people seeing the darkened figure hovering over
the queen came running armed and ready. Samson so intent on the sudden
appearance of an enemy didn't feel nor here the shift in the crowd and
seeing his Panda racing towards her queen made his blood boil at the
brazen attack. Roaring a challenge he glided straight for the apartment
passing over his rider as the massive male readied for battle.
Despite his size Lexi was quite quick on his feet and passed several
hurrying along. He didn't see his sister in the throng and panic
clutched at his chest.
Pandora was the first one to arrive and what happened next was the last
thing the Wingleader anticipated. Starting up the steps she was puzzled
by the ropes on Almantha and immediately thought to scold her soulmate,
when the dark menacing face and glowing yellow eyes appeared over the
top of the queen. Her feet froze in place, visions of pain, blood and
death filled her so completely that the sheer terror of it held her in
place. The horrified unearthly scream that ripped from the queenrider's
throat vibrated loudly off the crater walls only a second before she
fainted. Luckily the Andrew was close enough to break her fall down the
few steps.
<Oh Oh!> Almantha choked out her eyes widening as she her rider crumple
to the ground.
Lexi, hammer in hand broke through the crowd at the moment, taking in
the situation he looked more closely at the supposed Wyvern, which up
close didn't look quite so menacing. "What the hell!"
[..] A few minutes later
"She's okay, she's coming around now!"
"What hap..ALMANTHA!" Pandora cried out struggling to her feet. A bad
scrape on her elbow stung like crazy but it was ignored in her worry
for her queen.
Snickers could be heard as the cloudy haze in the queenrider's mind
began to clear. Blinking rapidly, T'rell, a saddled Almantha with ropes
dangling off of her came into focus. When the darkened face appeared
out of the cave she gasped in panic taking a step back then suddenly
wondering why she was the only one reacting that way. Looking around at
the crowd then back at the 'vicious creature' Pandora noticed that the
yellow eyes looked rather familiar. Peering closely she could see red
coming through the black and pursed her lips in confusion, "What the
heck is.."
<<SEEEEE! I TOLD YOU IT WOULDN"T WORK!>> Almantha snarled stomping her
foot at the Wingleader then with a loud snort enveloping him in a blast
of warm steam. <Rider, its all Flerrion's and this dumb humans fault!
He made me do... OUCH! HEY STOP THAT! AND GET OFF MY TAIL!>
T'rell stepped forward. "Listen Panda," he said sheepishly looking back
at the queen. "Well you see it's like this...."
<OUCH! ...OH ALRIGHT!> Almantha hollered in her mind, <I guess it's not
ALLLL Flerrion's fault!> Seeing the strange look on her rider's feet
the queen immediately humbled herself, <Awww rider we were just trying
to make it so you and I could go flying together!>
The azure eyes widened then turned to ice as comprehension dawned.,
"You set this up so that I would fly?" The dark-haired beauty demanded
through clinched teeth, her chin lifting in anger.
Samson was now well aware of what was going on and chortled in glee,
[Ooooh boy, the gigolo is gonna get it now!]" Standing with crossed
arms Lexi glanced up at the underside of the red dragons quivering chin
and just shook his head with a sigh.
Pandora spun around at the sea of faces, the smiles disappearing at her
stern look as she passed over each one finally coming to rest on her
twin and his scaly brother,. "And, I bet you two were in on this,
weren't you?"
Both man and dragon gaped in surprise, Lexi instantly shook his head,
"Oh no! Not me!" He exclaimed with Samson following suit. The dragon
didn't need to understand the woman to know that look or the tone of
her voice. It meant that he definitely wasn't going to like the outcome
of this.
Turning back to the offending trio, "You scared me half to death and
made me a laughing stock in front of the whole warren!" The simmering
anger spilled over, "JUST SO I WOULD FLY! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS?"
Trying to still the queasy butterflies still invading her stomach
Pandora glared at the three, "Why I oughta..I oughta..."
T'rell hurried forward with his arms outstretched but immediately
dropped them at the frosty glare he received. "Are you alright?" He
asked noting the scrape on her arm and unconsciously reaching for her.
"What do you think you were doing? You scared me half to death! How
could you..." She ranted pulling away.
He raised her hand to explain, "Listen, we made a deal and I.."
Pandora gaped at the Wingleader in total dismay. "You're making deals
with dragons now? T'rell!!! Almantha is a baby, she has no more common
sense then.... then...." The queenrider let out a disgusted sigh.
"You're supposed to be the adult here, and you 'know' how I feel about
this!"
The blonde man stroked his beard thoughtfully, "Well I agree about the
no common sense part but..."
"T'relllll!!!" The queenrider exclaimed angrily placing her hands on
her hips.
"Well...I was trying to make peace," T'rell answered uncomfortably.
"Um, you did say you thought it was a good idea. I'd hoped she'd settle
for something easy, like a good oiling or a fat buck or two, but
she...um, wanted something a bit tougher, and, well..."
With blue eyes blazing Pandora flipped her hair back in irritation,
"T'rell, I can't believe this, you know how I feel, I am not flying!
Not now! Not ever!" Spinning on her heel Pandora found the blonde
healer standing not to far behind her. "Andrew, would you be so kind as
to escort me to someplace where 'there are adults' present!" A large
crimson snout dropped in her path and she swatted at it in irritation.
Turning on her brother she poked him soundly in the chest, "I just know
you two had something to do with this so don't try standing there
looking all innocent!" Then firmly shoving Samson's snout out of her
way Pandora grabbed Andrews arm practically dragging the befuddled man
away.
