Day 104 Early Afternoon Pandora's Apt

<Snip from John>

*Yep, now she just has to do her part,* T'rell said. *Let's give her
some incentive.*
[Okay!] Flerrion said, keeping his blackened, snarling visage in view
over the coppery queen's back, while unseen in the shadows he began to
tickle
Almantha's back feet with his claws. Not the kind of wyvern attack
Panda would
think was occurring, T'rell figured as he retreated to the farthest
corner of
the cave to await the explosion that was likely to occur in the next
few
seconds, but hopefully it would do under the circumstances.
<End Snip>Almantha jerked at the sudden assault to the tender
undersides of her feet, <HEY GET OFF ME YA BIG DOPE! STOP THAT!>

{{Ummm, aren't you supposed to sound scared or something?)) Flerrion
asked hesitantly doing his best to look ferocious.

<I'M GONNA OR SOMETHING YOU, IF YOU DON'T QUIT!!!> The Queen hollered;
frantically wiggling her hind end to evade the tickling claws. <STOP!
STOP!> The sound of her roars were halfway between a giggle and anger
while the jerky movements began to actually cause her to become
entangled in the ropes.

**You know, you both could sound a little more convincing!** T'rell
muttered sharply from his hidden vantagepoint.

With her neck tangled in the ropes Almantha was barely able to turn her
head but it was enough to be able to snap angrily at the Wingleader,
her sharp fangs causing him to take a step back. "IS THAT CONVINCING
ENOUGH? C'MERE AND I'LL SHOW YOU HOW CONVINCING I CAN BE! GET OFF ME YA
BIG JERK! I'M GONNA BITE YOU SOOOO BAD! LET GO! WHOA, WAIT JUST A
MINUTE...GACCKK!.> Suddenly realizing that she really was stuck the
copper dragon panicked. <RIDERRRRRRRR....>

[..] Meanwhile in the Med Center

Pandora was at the small desk in the office with Adams sitting across
from her. They had spent the better part of two hours going over supply
lists and she was feeling a bit rummy from staring at paperwork and
peeked over at the blonde healer through long lashes. Even though he
had been the perfect gentleman and had not brought up the night of the
mating flight she still felt a bit embarrassed in his presence. She
wasn't sure why, but his opinion of her mattered and Pandora was
secretly thankful and quite pleased that he hadn't changed his attitude
towards her, or worse looked at her as if she was some sort of wanton
hussy.

They had just finished the final list for requisitions when the
dark-haired beauty was overcome by some very strange feelings from her
queen. Rubbing her temples she obviously must have made some sort of
face as Adams immediately leaned towards her, "Pandora, are you okay!"

"Of course she's okay!" Palace exclaimed jovially as his huge frame
filled the doorway. "With us around to help what could be wrong!
Hmmm.." He added peering at the queenrider intently, "You do look a bit
peaked milady, maybe you should lie down a bit you have been working
rather hard, or we could take your temperature!" He added with a happy
wink.

The big man's cheerfulness made Pandora smile. One thing she could say
for Palace was that he had a definite way of brightening up a room when
he entered. "I'm fine gentleman, just some strange feelings from
Almantha is all. Sometimes, I just never know quite what to expect from
her."

Pandora didn't see the knowing look between the two men. They had been
around long enough to know the reputation of the copper dragon and the
faint look of sympathy was instantly replaced with a hearty laugh from
Palace, "Ya just never know about those dragons! I think maybe I'll
stick closer to the ground."

Reaching for the carafe of coffee on the desk the jr. queenrider
grinned, "I second that!"

Adams smiled and straightening the last pile of papers on the desk
said, "Pandora, since it seems we've finished how about we take a break
and head to the dini.."

Back at the cave apartment Almantha was gently cued on her role by the
Wingleader, not that it took much acting at this point.
<RIDERRRRRRRR...> One of the ropes was now cutting into her neck and
seriously starting to sting and Flerrion's sharp claws kept poking her
feet, and to add insult to injury he was sitting on tail of all things.
<RIDERRRR! ITS GOT ME!!!> She let loose with a shriek so convincing it
brought Pandora to her feet along with a few others around the warren..

"There's something wrong!" She cried out cutting off Adams's words. A
stack of papers went flying as she brsuhed against them in her race for
the door the two men hurrying to follow.

[..] And out on the green

Lexi, Seth and Max had been working together around the warren the
better part of the day using the dragons for eyes, ears and cover. They
knew that the enemy had eyes everywhere so it was a matter of being as
unobtrusive as possible. Jason was on the green working with some of
the newer riders and he'd quietly kept watch keeping them informed of
the comings and goings. Occasionally the Beta Wingleader would shift
training pairs to cover their movements as the men carefully placed the
rockets they had received from Jasra in key areas all over the warren.
An attack was inevitable hopefully they would be ready for when it
came.

During their rambling wanderings Lexi realized he was being followed
but seeing it was the little girl that Sharees had taken in the
blacksmith wasn't too concerned, more puzzled by it then anything.

Hiding the last rocket he finally turned to gaze at Angel. The man and
the little girl stared at each other for several minutes. Growing
uncomfortable under her intense gaze he cleared his throat and walked
over to her, "So what can I do for you young lady?"

Angel looked him up and down then lifting her eyes to stare up at him
in silence.

Lexi arched a brow returning the little girl's stare. Why, did he have
the feeling this had to do with Sharees.

Before he could contemplate any further Samson's deep roar split the
air. The crimson giant had been napping when Almantha's cry woke him
and his sleepy jumbled warning about Wyverns attacking the young queen
had the big man looking toward the hatching cavern, then to the copper
dragon's favorite ledge. As his eyes scanned the warren a jet of steam
rising from his sister's apartment caught his attention and the sight
sent a chill through his bones. Even from this far away he could see
the situation and it looked very grim indeed. The glowing eyes from the
darkness in the dragon entrance said it all. How the hell did they get
inside the warren without being seen, let alone into Panda's apartment?
Thoughts of what she had told about her earlier encounter with the
creatures ran through Lexi's mind. Had it come back to claim her?

Looking down at the child then quickly scanning the area he scooped her
up and took off running towards the closest haven that he could see
which was the dining hall. Depositing the little girl at the door,
"Angel, you get inside with Realee right now and stay there until
Sharees or I come for you!" His tone brooked no argument as he sprinted
off towards his sister's apartment mind speaking to the reddish giant
as he went.

Almantha was so intent now on getting loose and to get the big lug off
her tail she didn't realize that her caterwauling was drawing quite a
lot of attention and people seeing the darkened figure hovering over
the queen came running armed and ready. Samson so intent on the sudden
appearance of an enemy didn't feel nor here the shift in the crowd and
seeing his Panda racing towards her queen made his blood boil at the
brazen attack. Roaring a challenge he glided straight for the apartment
passing over his rider as the massive male readied for battle.

Despite his size Lexi was quite quick on his feet and passed several
others hurrying towards the squalling queen. He didn't see his sister
in the throng and panic clutched at his chest.

Pandora was the first one to arrive and what happened next was the last
thing the Wingleader anticipated. Starting up the steps she was puzzled
by the ropes on Almantha and immediately thought to scold her soulmate,
when the dark menacing face and glowing yellow eyes appeared over the
top of the queen. Her feet froze in place, visions of pain, blood and
death filled her so completely that the sheer terror of it held her in
place. The horrified unearthly scream that ripped from the queenrider's
throat vibrated loudly off the crater walls only a second before she
fainted. Luckily the Adams was close enough to break her fall down the
few steps.

<Oh Oh!> Almantha choked out her eyes widening as she her rider crumple
to the ground.

Lexi, hammer in hand broke through the crowd at the moment, taking in
the situation he looked more closely at the supposed Wyvern, which up
close didn't look quite so menacing. "What the hell!"

[..] A few minutes later

"She's okay, she's coming around now!"

"What hap....ALMANTHA!" Pandora cried out struggling to her feet. A bad
scrape on her elbow stung like crazy but it was ignored in her worry
for her queen.

Snickers could be heard as the cloudy haze in the queenrider's mind
began to clear. Blinking rapidly, T'rell, a saddled Almantha with ropes
dangling off of her came into focus. When the darkened face appeared
out of the cave she gasped in panic taking a step back then suddenly
wondering why she was the only one reacting that way. Looking around at
the crowd then back at the 'vicious creature' Pandora noticed that the
yellow eyes looked rather familiar. Peering closely she could see red
coming through the black and pursed her lips in confusion, "What the
heck is.."

<<SEEEEE! I TOLD YOU IT WOULDN"T WORK!>> Almantha snarled stomping her
foot at the Wingleader then with a loud snort enveloping him in a blast
of warm steam. <Rider, its all Flerrion's and this dumb humans fault!
He made me do... OUCH! HEY STOP THAT! AND GET OFF MY TAIL!>

T'rell stepped forward. "Listen Panda," he said sheepishly looking back
at the queen. "Well you see it's like this....."

<OUCH! ...OH ALRIGHT!> Almantha hollered in her mind, <I guess it's not
ALLLL Flerrion's fault!> Seeing the strange look on her rider's feet
the queen immediately humbled herself, <Awww rider we were just trying
to make it so you and I could go flying together!>

The azure eyes widened then turned to ice as comprehension dawned, "You
set this up so that I would fly?" The dark-haired beauty demanded
through clinched teeth, her chin lifting in anger.

Samson was now well aware of what was going on and chortled in glee,
[Ooooh boy, the gigolo is gonna get it now!]" Standing with crossed
arms Lexi glanced up at the underside of the red dragons quivering chin
and just shook his head with a sigh.

Pandora spun around at the sea of faces, the smiles disappearing at her
stern look as she passed over each one finally coming to rest on her
twin and his scaly brother,. "And, I bet you two were in on this,
weren't you?"

Both man and dragon gaped in surprise, Lexi instantly shook his head,
"Oh no! Not me!" He exclaimed with Samson following suit. The dragon
didn't need to understand the woman to know that look or the tone of
her voice. It meant that he definitely wasn't going to like the outcome
of this.

Turning back to the offending trio, "You scared me half to death and
made me a laughing stock in front of the whole warren!" The simmering
anger spilled over, "JUST SO I WOULD FLY! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS?"
Trying to still the queasy butterflies still invading her stomach
Pandora glared at the three, "Why, I oughta..I oughta..."

T'rell hurried forward with his arms outstretched but immediately
dropped them at the frosty glare he received. "Are you alright?" He
asked noting the scrape on her arm and unconsciously reaching for her.

"What do you think you were doing? You scared me half to death! How
could you..." She ranted pulling away.

He raised her hand to explain, "Listen, we made a deal and I.."

Pandora gaped at the Wingleader in total dismay. "You're making deals
with dragons now? T'rell!!! Almantha is a baby, she has no more common
sense then.... then...." The queenrider let out a disgusted sigh.
"You're supposed to be the adult here, and you 'know' how I feel about
this!"

The blonde man stroked his beard thoughtfully, "Well I agree about the
no common sense part but..."

"T'relllll!!!" The queenrider exclaimed angrily placing her hands on
her hips.

"Well...I was trying to make peace," T'rell answered uncomfortably.
"Um, you did say you thought it was a good idea. I'd hoped she'd settle
for something easy, like a good oiling or a fat buck or two, but
she...um, wanted something a bit tougher, and, well...."

With blue eyes blazing Pandora flipped her hair back in irritation,
"T'rell, I can't believe this, you know how I feel, I am not flying!
Not now! Not ever!" Spinning on her heel Pandora found the blonde
healer standing not to far behind her. "Adams, would you be so kind as
to escort me to someplace where 'there are adults' present!" A large
crimson snout dropped in her path and she swatted at it in irritation.
Turning on her brother she poked him soundly in the chest, "I just know
you two had something to do with this so don't try standing there
looking all innocent!" Then firmly shoving Samson's snout out of her
way Pandora grabbed the healer's arm practically dragging the befuddled
man away.

Day 105
Night
On Patrol

Jacks had let out the call that Lord Renyar was being attacked. There
were
Wyverns in the skies and troops on the ground. Jacks and Dante flew a
few
circles scouting out the area, and relaying the information they saw to
help
the others when they showed.

Gamma was on their way, and he knew his wing was getting ready to fly.
The rest of the patrol arrived first to see if they could get closer
and be
able to help the situation.

It seemed there were hundreds of troops on the ground. Most of them
appeared to be wearing green robes. At this moment it appeared that
there
were only a few of the dark creatures circling above the scene.

After deciding how to handle the situation, Dante watched as some of
the
patrol went for the dark creatures, and the others went after the
troops.
With the darkness it was hard to see well, and from the view above the
battle ground it appeared that many were already slain when the first
of the
riders arrived. None of the Wyverns were down yet. Jacks found one
Wyvern
apart from the others and went for it. Jacks opened his mouth to let
out a
fire ball when the creature moved; like it knew they were there. It
arched
and twisted slightly and shot it's venom at them. Jacks pulled his
wings in
and around Dante and dropped. They spiraled down twisting and turning
so as
not to make an easy target and when close to the ground Jacks slowly
opened
his wings and banked upward and began to climb back to the battle.

Suddenly the skies were filled with dragons and their riders and Dante
knew
that Gamma had arrived. The ferocity in which they pursued their prey
only
spoke of their growing frustration of not being able to fight back.

Now was their chance, and they unleashed their fury and frustration at
these
night creatures who hid in darkness and shadows only to strike when
they had
the upper hand. The battle rose to a fevered pitch and the night was
filled
with the screeching of the wounded and dying. The blood from both
Dragon
and Wyvern fell to the ground as the battle for the skies continued.

Dante was informed that now his wing, the Beta wing had joined in and
with
the higher numbers a victory might just be theirs this night.

The land battle raged as well, and with the help from some of the
dragon
riders who flamed as they passed over enemy lines hoped to help hold
the
tide so that the Lord could rally his troops and begin his attack that
would
drive the Green Robes back.

Time passed slowly as the battle ensued. The more they fought, battled,
killed and defeated, the more it seemed that the enemy continued to
come.
Dante lost in the moment of the battle continued in his part of the
twisted
dance that made its way through the night sky.

As another wave of Wyverns appeared and entered the fray Jacks and
Dante saw
their opportunity on one off to the side and dropped down on it. They
were
surprised to see that this particular Wyvern carried a rider as well.

Jacks began the battle and as they fought Dante noticed that the man on
the
creature had begun to crawl his way towards him. Dante also saw the
dagger
in his teeth and preparing to strike. Dante reached for his bow...It
wasn't
there!

Dante turned and noticed it had been ripped off, he grabbed for his
sword
that hung loosely. He grabbed the sword with his one hand and steadied
himself.

Please DON'T miss he thought. Dante swung at the man...and missed.

The rider was a huge man and as the swoosh of the sword went by he
laughed.
He lunged towards Dante and somehow Dante managed to block and keep the
dagger from finding its mark.

The man larger and obviously stronger began to push and press against
him,
trying to push the point of his dagger that last few inches into
Dante's
neck.

As they wrestled on the back of Jacks, Jacks was wrestling with the
Wyvern
very aware of the danger his rider was in. Using all of his strength
and
skill managed to keep the creature from clawing either of them.

Dante continued the struggle and all he could see was that tip..inching
closer and closer. He put all of his energy into pushing it back.

Suddenly they were jarred, hard, rocked, like Jacks had taken a hit.
How
Dante had still managed to keep a hold of Jacks amazed him. He watched
as
his assailant fly off backwards and screaming plunged to his death as
his
screamed ended with his contact with the ground.

Once he realized he was still attached to the saddle he moved to
reposition
himself and realized that Jacks was flying again, and...there was NO
creature in his claws. Confused he looked around and saw a big red
dragon,
banking away and going after another creature.

It was Samson!

Dante took a deep breath; he was rather shaken at what had just
happened.
He had not been prepared for that!

[He says you're welcome!] Jacks relayed.

Dante replied still catching his breath. It had happened so fast and
yet in
slow motion. *They're nuts! That rider jumping us like that!*

[Yeah, well, we need to be more careful next time..Ok?] Jacks banked
again
to pick up speed and headed back into the fray.

As Jacks and Dante battled what seemed like the never ending creatures,
he
caught glimpses of his wing members as they too continued to fight and
try
to push the invaders back. A flash of Red, or dark blue, magenta and
dark
greens; all of them weaving in and out of the dark silhouettes that
moved
and vanished as if one with the shadows.

Now Dante and Jacks were careful when they attacked the Wyverns and
kept
them from attacking them from above them. They lost a sense of time as
they
kept taking out one creature to be replaced with 2 in its place.

Just as they were about to take one more out, Jacks heard another
alarm.

[The searchling barracks are being attacked!]

*WHAT!* Dante cried out as his mind stalled. WEYA!

This pause made it possible for another Wyvern to glide in above them
and 2
men dropped onto the back of Jacks. Jacks roared and spun, closing his
wings
against his body tryin to protect Dante, and with luck roll off the
intruders.

[Hold on!] Jacks sent to Dante as he began the roll. He rolled and
fell,
rolled again and banked and twisted and turned hoping that the 2
uninvited
guests would fall.

Both men ready for such an action managed to grab onto the leather
straps of
the saddle and hold on. Dante's head spun with the dizzy movements of
Jacks
and when he looked and saw they were still there, he knew he was in
serious
trouble. One had been hard enough, he couldn't take on two.

Dear God he was going to die. The Wyvern slammed Jacks in his blind
side,
causing Jacks to spin again out of control as he plummeted towards the
ground.
Jacks regained some control and managed a sort of back flip with a
twist and
regained his direction, banked once more and began to try to pick up
speed
and flew for it.

Dante held on for dear life as Jacks weaved and bobbed to try to keep
from
the advancing Wyvern. Jacks powerful wings beating slowing; gaining
back the
speed that had been lost from the fall.

With the wings now being used, Dante was now left open for an attack
from
the 2 men who were slowly preparing to do just that.

[Dante! I can't shake him]

*He knows where we are by these two. Jacks, I can't fight both of
them*

[Try my brother] Jacks counseled.

What could he do? Dante unbuckled himself and sat sideways so he could
see
both of them. He couldn't fight off both of them; he was not that good
with
a sword.

Jacks wouldn't call for help, for whom would he call? Everyone in the
wings
was just as busy as they were. No, he and his bond brother would have
to do
this on their own.

[Brother! Think of your sister, of Weya.the people who count on you]

A picture of them both filled his mind. Both were so happy and full of
life. How would it change their lives if he were gone?

A yell interrupted his thoughts and as he looked up he saw the man
lunging
at him. He couldn't die this way. He wanted to die of old age. And
then
another yell and the man behind him lunged at him as well. Dante
readied
himself and prayed.

Just as the 2 men charged, another Wyvern popped in and descended on
Jacks.
This was it..they were both going to die by these damned things.

There was a blood curdling roar. It sent shivers down both Dante and
Jacks
Spines. Jack answered the roar and Dante prepared to die as the 2 men
jumped
at him ready to drive their swords into his chest and back.

When out of mid air, they were grabbed, ripped in half fight in front
of
him. The blood of the men splattered in his face. They did not have
time
to scream or fight back.

Another roar sounded, one of challenge while the second roar had been
more
of surprise and then retreat. Both Jacks and Dante had the change to
see
what had happened and before their eyes they saw one of the dark
creatures
battling with a dark blue dragon. The creature did not last long and
was
rendered. Jacks managed to dodge the acid drops and bits of skin and
tissue
that were falling. A few seconds later the head fell, the look of
shear
terror in its eyes.

When the dark blue dragon flew lever with Jacks, Dante saw that it was
Jason, his wing leader. The look upon Jason's face was something wild
or
feral. Dante had never seen that look before, and the aura around them
both
was unusual. Even Jacks was slightly uncomfortable. Starfire's dark
blue
eyes glowing with a reddish hue and Dante had never noticed such a
thing
before.

Both seemed more like something from the underworld, more in kin to
those
creatures that they were fighting.

"GO HOME!" Jason bellowed. "You have no place in the battle field!" he
reiterated in his booming voice.

The tone and hint of malice startled him. He had never heard him sound
or
act this way before. At that point he didn't disagree. He was not
being of
use or help.

They watched as Starfire and Jason returned to the pitched ferocious
battle
that waged before them. One last look as they turned to return to the
Warren
as they had been instructed. Dante felt some sadness that he could not
help
the others. That by needing help, he was not helping.

*Come, let's go back* he told his bond mate as he felt an overwhelming
sense
of defeat wash over him.

*   *   *   *   *

Day106
Past Midnight
Green

Jacks landed on the green and watched as his rider kinda fell off his
back.
He nudged him with his snout. Dante slowly got up and patted it and
tried
to reassure him that he was ok.

Several healers rushed to their aid and they began to wash down and
treat
the minor splattering of acid burns along with some minor scraps and
cuts.

Dante nodded to them and headed off towards the Medical Center. He
smelled
of blood and the acrid smell of burnt leather and skin.

[Weya is safe] Jacks shared with him, hoping this bit of news would
cheer
him up.

*Thanks* he replied and pushed those thoughts away. As he almost
cleared
the Green he was stopped by a small group of the town folk who had
retreated
to the Medical Center in hopes that it would be a place of sanctuary.

Seeing a rider come their way they accosted him. "Why aren't you out
there
fighting?" An angry man exclaimed.

"Get back out there!" Another yelled.

"Why aren't you saving our city?" A woman's voice wailed above the soft
din.
Dante number, tired and sore just kept walking. His emotions a
swirling
mass of chaos, tried hard not to stop and tried to keep moving to the
Medical Center.

One man grabbed his shoulder and Dante wrenched in pain from him. "Why
don't you guys just go take out city back!" he demanded.

"You don't know those things." Dante responded as he took a deep
breath.
"Have you felt their burning acid?" he threw back at them.

"They fight with no heart, they just kill; anything and everything.
Toy
with ya first, kill you slowly and enjoy every minute of it!" his voice
rose
with the anger and pain that flowed through him. Dante pushed the
man's arm
away and pushed away and tried to continue his path to the healers.

"They are fast and strong!" he declared and started to walk again.

"YOU warren folk are all alike, you are just chicken" a voice in the
dark
replied with deep malice.

Dante stopped dead in his tracks; his anger rising with every breath.
Jacks
suddenly feeling the rage; looked up and in the direction of where his
rider
went to see what was wrong

He spun around on his heels and faced down the small crowd. "Why don't
YOU
go out there and fight them." He replied angrily.

"Why are you hiding in MY home? You know, we didn't HAVE to let you in
here. We could have left you out there to die." He replied his voice
dropping to near whisper and with deadly intent.

[Brother...] Jacks tried to send comfort to help the seething rage he
felt
coming from him. Jacks sighed as he knew it went un-noticed. He knew
his
rider just needed sleep and some healing balm, and he would feel better
in
the morning.

With that, Dante turned and continue to walk away, not paying any heed
to
the rest of the soft comments that the city folk were uttering. As he
reached the Medical Center the voices of the crowd were louder and
jeering.

He walked through the doors and a healer stifled a cry as her hand flew
to
her mouth. Dante was covered in blood, and the stench of the acid
burns and
burnt leather along with the strong acidic smell of the blood was
rather
overwhelming.

Once he was ushered into a room and they began to work on him, they
soon
learned it was not all his blood. The laid him on a bed and began to
treat
the burns and other minor cuts and bruises.

As the numbing effects of the salve began to work, exhausted and beaten
Dante closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep as she continued to
treat his
injuries.
