Subject: [DL-D] "Puppy" Love

Day 105
Late Afternoon

Sharees had just come in the door with Angel in tow, and was
contemplating dinner, when there was a knock on the door. Opening it
she was surprised to find herself staring into friendly blue eyes
nestled in a soft, fuzzy, white fur. Behind that face was the smiling
face of her friend, Akety.

"What is this?" Sharees asked in surprise. "A visitor?"

Angel's eyes lit up when she saw Akety, and the wolf puppy in her arms.
Yet, she peeked out from behind Sharees shyly.

"In a way," Akety grinned and held out the puppy toward Angel, "a
permanent visitor if you'd like her to stay."

Angel looked from the puppy, to Akety and to Sharees and back again. A
smile slowly spreading across her face, her hands tentatively reached
out for the white pup.

"That is if it's okay with you?" Akety looked up questioningly into
Sharees's blue eyes.

Sharees shrugged helplessly, and watched the girl and puppy instantly
fall in love with each other. Then she chuckled, "Sure... as long as
she doesn't eat my leathers. Though, come to think of it, I do have a
lot of raw-hide that was unsuitable for tanning. Do you think the
other
puppies might like some?"

Akety grinned, "Oh, do I! Dante's ready to have a fit! The puppies
have already chewed on his boots, saddle, riding leathers..."

Sharees laughed, "Well come on down to the shop and let me give you
some
to take back with you." She turned to her little charge and said,
"Angel, do you want to take the puppy inside and get him..."

"Her... she's a girl." Akety corrected.

"Oh! HER used to HER new home?" Sharees smiled and her smile broadened
as she looked into the very happy face of the little girl. She watched
as Angel ran inside with the puppy gambling behind her.

Then, Akety and Sharees went down the stairs and around the corner to
where Sharees had her leather shop. She pulled open the door and went
inside. The smell of leather hung in the air, and both women couldn't
help but breathe in the scent deeply. After searching about for a few
minutes, Sharees handed Akety a sack full of scrap leather and hide.

"They will love this!" Akety exclaimed, "You can't imagine the damage
they've done to his saddle and riding harness."

"Oh, I can just imagine." Sharees smiled and palmed a few leathers for
her newest addition.

Thanking Sharees, Akety left to return to her brother's apartment.

Sharees returned to her own apartment. As she entered she was startled
to hear a sound she had never heard coming from Angel's room. She
sneaked a look around the corner of the bedroom door and blinked back
tears. The bed covers were piled up and a white tail was hanging out
of
one side, waving wildly, and two bare feet were sticking out the other
side and from underneath was the joyful sound of puppy panting and ...
giggling.

Sharees backed out of the room, unwilling to interfere with the magic.
She stood in the hallway, her back pressed up against the wall, the
tears slipped out from beneath her eyelids.

---

Sharees had just checked on the soup which was boiling on the range,
when she heard the scratching of claws on the stones of the floor.
Turning she saw that happy face of Angel and the puppy. "Do you like
your new friend?" Sharees asked.

Angel nodded happily. She gave a questioning look toward the range and
Sharees smiled.

"Dinner is almost ready. I supposed your friend is hungry, too. I put
some meat scraps aside for her. Would you like to feed her?"

Angel nodded vigorously and took the bowl Sharees handed her.

"I thought she might like a place of her own, so why don't we get her
used to eating right here?" Sharees pointed to a spot and Angel put
the
dish down.

The puppy growled as she snapped up the meat and Angel grinned.

"She's used to eating with siblings," Sharees stated. "She'll soon
learn that you don't want to eat her food."

Angel smiled and nodded, though her eyes never left the little white
pup.

"Hmm..." Sharees made a thoughtful sound, "We'll have to come up with
a
name for her."

Angel nodded.

Over dinner Sharees suggested names, like: Snowball, Fluffy, Cloud,
among others. All of these were rejected by Angel, who simply shook
her
head sadly.

"All right, maybe we'll need to wait a few days for the right name to
come along?" Sharees smiled.

---
After supper, Sharees helped Angel make a bed for the puppy and gave
her
some of the rawhide to play with. But the puppy and little girl found
other ways to amuse themselves, and again, Sharees was delighted to
hear
the unfamiliar, but very welcome, sound of a child giggling.

It was a nice addition to an evening. Evenings had grown too quiet in
recent days. Sharees missed hearing S'lthan's music from his apartment
nearby. His instruments often went untouched night after night, and
she
worried about her friend.

After a while, though it got very quiet, and Sharees got up, leaving
the
braided leather that she had been working with on the table. The
puppy's bed was empty, but Angel's bed was not. The two had curled up
together and were fast asleep.

As Sharees bent to kiss the child on the head, the alarm went up:
Wyverns attacking. Sighing, the wingsecond hurried from the room and,
donning her riding leathers, was airborne on Chamelle within minutes.
The BCS were formed and ready only seconds after the sounding of the
alarm and they were the first to answer the call from the patrols.

Sharees was glad that Angel would have the puppy to keep her company
that night.

[Vampire-WW] Looking for Answers[NPRG - Sonia = Kathryn's friend from
school, lives in next door apartment. Simon = Kathyrn's boyfriend]

<Sonia's apartment>

"Okay, Sonia, where is she?"

Sonia sighed and stepped aside as Simon stormed into her apartment.

"You mean Kathyrn?"

She put up her hands defensively as Simon prepared to launch into a
tirade.

"Alright, stupid question," she said. "Sit down," she added, stalling
for time.

"Okay," she continued. "I haven't seen her at classes for a few days,
but that's nothing sinister, is it?"

"No," Simon drawled, sarcastically, "but you also happen to be her best
friend and live *next door* to her. She hasn't been home, has she, or
haven't you *noticed*?"

Sonia sat down and her shoulders slumped.

"I've called her, but there's no reply. And her cell phone's switched
off," Simon continued.

"She hasn't been back," Sonia admitted. "I've been feeding Arthur - he
came round here begging."

"Arthur?" said Simon. "Oh - that damn cat!"

"Kathryn adored him - she'd never leave him without asking me to feed
him," Sonia said.

"So where *is* she? When did you last see her? Where was she going?"

"Calm down, Simon, you're not helping. I'm worried too!" Sonia snapped
back, close to tears now.

"She was going to an audition," she continued. "It was a really big
chance for her - at a fancy club that Vincent got her an introduction
at."

She realised her mistake the moment the name was out of her mouth.

"Vincent?"

Sonia closed her eyes. *Sorry Kathryn* she thought.

"He's a musician," she explained. "Really well known round here. Owns a
jazz club."

"So of course I wouldn't have heard of him, a philistine like me..."
Simon said.

"I didn't mean it like that. But you know how Kathryn lived for her
music."

"Don't I just," said Simon. "Yet another side of her life I wasn't
included in. So, she had an audition at this Vincent's fancy club?"

"No," Sonia replied. "Vincent does jazz, Kathryn's more classical -
she's a cellist."

"I *know* that, don't patronise me..." Simon said, in a dangerous tone.

"Well don't keep sniping at me!" Sonia snapped. Couldn't he see she was
worried too? "I don't remember the name of the place where Kathryn's
audition was, but Vincent got it for her, and it was with a woman
called Lady Danielle. I couldn't forget that. And it was really
important. Kathryn said it could set her up for life - she was so
excited! She had a gorgeous new dress and everything - said she had to
create a good impression."

"Gorgeous dresses now, a bit rich for an impoverished student, huh?
Where they a present from her gigolo Vincent, then?" Simon taunted.

Sonia's cheeks burned. Damn him, why'd he have to guess that Vincent
was behind the dresses...

"And that was the last time you saw her?" Simon continued. "When she
left for the audition?"

Sonia nodded.

"Which you conveniently can't remember the location of..."

Sonia shook her head, sadly.

"But you *do* know where this Redemption is, don't you... Get your
coat, Sonia," Simon snapped.

"Why...?" she began.

"Because you and I are going to pay this *Vincent* a visit. And if he's
got Kathryn there... He's going to wish he'd never been born."

Respectfully submitted
Carina

Sonia and Simon
