Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] Tracks in the dark
Time: Just before Istria and Avi leave for the planet
Preparing to meet Avi for the trans****t to Marin, Istria rechecked her
equipment one last time. This was just a straightforward fact-finding
mission, so what was this depth of feeling she had regarding the
planet? It
was a fascinating conundrum, that much was certain. It could uncover
the
answers to the blank spaces in her past. But there was more involved
than
that. Istria chewed her lip, disconcerted. There was an emotional
aspect,
too. And 'issues' were for other people, vulnerable people.
Why did she feel this inexorable pull towards the planet?
The dreams had returned, too. Something - no, correct that - *someone*
was
calling
her to the planet. Someone who was somehow very im****tant. Someone had
a
hold over Istria, and this was not a
feeling she enjoyed.
So why did she feel almost a thrill of excitement about returning?
Place: on the planet
The moment they materialised, Istria felt that she had *returned*.
Looking
around, slowly, she took in the lush vegetation and, for the first
time, the
planet not at night. The dusk cast long shadows, bringing every feature
of
the landscape into sharp relief, tinging it with tones of black and
blood
red.
"Everyone alright, Lt?" Avi asked.
Istria nodded.
<Snip from Josh's post>
"Alright, let's get started. You know what to do." He said, crouching
down
next to...well,
what was it? "Lt. Talara, a moment of your time please?" She walked
over
to what interested him so. "What is this?"
"I don't know, Captain, I'll take a sample and have it analyzed." She
said,
leaning over what really he'd think was a stump of a limb, but really
wasn=B9t
sure, as it looked nothing humanoid. "We should have the results back
in
short time."
"Good. Now, let's get started."
<end snip>
Carefully, with gloved hands, Istria turned the piece of flesh over and
took
the samples she needed. The skin was pallid, heavily veined, and
blotched
with what appeared to be blue-black bruising. There was a fine coating
of
white hair. One end of the limb had been torn clean away, perhaps by
some
large animal, and Istria examined the blood vessels at the torn end.
Very
interesting... And *not* human. Miaren would be fascinated...
Once she'd thoroughly examined the limb, Istria sealed the samples, and
turned back to Avi.
"I'm finished here," she began, noticing that the light had all but
faded to
darkness now.
Then
*Istria* the voice called to her.
She flinched, and her eyes widened, as her mind called back *I'm here!*
"What is it? Did you hear something?" Avi asked, sharply.
"Nothing," she said, frowning.
"You sure?" Avi frowned.
"Yes, quite sure," she replied, slowly.
Avi's eyes narrowed, but he turned and led the way out of the clearing.
"Just a minute," Istria said. "Do you see that?"
She pointed to the churned up mud created by the fight with the
'creatures'.
"We can't tell an awful lot from that..." she said.
"And those are our people," she continued, indicating the booted
footprints
of the away team, slightly away from the scuffle, when they entered the
clearing. "But what about *those*..."
The tracks she pointed to were vaguely humanoid, but elongated, and
clawed.

SUMMARY:
Istria is disconcerted by the feeling that she is being 'drawn' towards
the
planet.
Avi and Istria beam down to Marin. Istria has a sensation of
'returning'.
She examines the remains of one of the creatures that attacked the
previous
away party, and takes samples.
Darkness falls. Then she feels someone call her name, and instinctively
responds.
Istria denies having heard anything, and points out some strange
footprints
to Avi.
