Subject: [WEB] JP - Business or Pleasure?
Day 23 Evening
The Gala Ball
Alorian watched Alex slip through the crowd and away from her. He
glanced
over his shoulder and smiled to her once before disappearing into the
mass
of people. Alorian moved to the bar to get a drink. She caught a
glimpse of
herself in a mirror and smiled. She was wearing the typical little
black
dress. It had ties that went around her neck and hugged her body
seductively. The back hung open to the small of her back and it fell to
just
above her knees and she wore black sling back shoes to match. Her hair
was
done up with just a few wisps caressing her neck.
She stopped at the bar and got a rum and coke before turning to look
over
the crowd for Kayn.
Not spotting him right away she took a sip of her drink and stepped
back
into the crowd. The music was soft and sultry and Alorian let her body
sway
slightly in time with it. She looked relaxed and like she was enjoying
herself. Inside her senses were on edge tho. She was aware of almost
everything happening around her. So she was not surprised when she felt
the
soft touch on her back. She smiled as he stepped up behind her and
whispered
softly in her ear.
"Someone looks as if she's enjoying herself," Kayn murmured, emerging
from
the crowd and sliding up behind Alorian. After his very intriguing
dance
with Fionola had been interrupted by Lucien, Kayn had dismissed the
self-proclaimed 'protector' and left him in a huff.
There were certain people he wished to meet tonight and Lucien wasn't
high
on the list. This certain lady was however.
"Isn't that the point of being here?" Alorian replied with a half
smile,
turning around to face him. She certainly looked the part. Kayn thought
she
looked delectable and he was pretty sure he wasn't the only one.
"Well, one of the reasons yes." Kayn took her free hand and kissed the
back
of it, the tip of his tongue bru****ng her skin in a manner he was aware
she'd be familiar with before letting it go. "Thank you for accepting
my
invitation to come along."
"You still have to tell me how you got my personal number," Alorian
said
lightly, handing her glass off to a waiter. Kayn just smiled.
"Ah, a man has to have some secrets, yes?" He took her hand again and
grinned. "Will the lady grace me with a dance?"
"I'll dance but I'm not sure if it will be graceful," she replied
wryly.
Kayn simply chuckled as he steered her through the crowd towards the
floor.
"Somehow I doubt you wouldn't be graceful m'dear," he said softly in
her
ear, stepping in close to her as the found some space. Alorian could
see the
grin on his face reaching up to his eyes as they twinkled in the light.
She
eyed him suspiciously.
"What are you up to," she asked, a grin tugging unconsciously at the
corner
of her mouth. Kayn raised an eyebrow.
"Why, that's the second time I've been asked that tonight," he replied
in a
slightly hurt voice, obviously fake. "I can't imagine why." He slid up
against her pulled her into the dance, her body nicely warm against
his.
"Oh I can think of a few reasons," Alorian murmured.
Kayn didn't reply, he simply smiled and held Alorian close to him. For
most
of the song they simply danced silently. Alorian felt herself beginning
to
relax and flow with the music. She didn't get to dance often, and tho
she
would never admit it to him, she enjoyed the feeling she got when Kayn
held
her close. As the song ended Alorian stood back from him and looked up
into
his eyes. There was a slightly dreamy look to her gaze before she
blinked
and then took another step back.
"So, there was a particular reason why you wanted me to come to this
particular party?"
"You mean other than for the pleasure of dancing with you?" Kayn
grinned.
"But yes, there was a reason. There are a few people here you should
know
about." Another song started up, a slow number and Kayn turned Alorian
around gently and held her with her back to his chest as they slowly
moved
across the floor, his head resting on her shoulder as he whispered in
her
ear. "Look there, across the floor.
See that smartly dressed man with the cold smile?"
"Yes." Alorian ****vered a little. Now that Kayn pointed him out, she
could
sense that something was wrong with the man. "Who is he?" Kayn chuckled
coldly, his breath sending ****vers down the back of her neck.
"Why, he's a vampire of course. Couldn't you tell?" Alorian jumped a
little
when he said it, but kept her composure.
"How did he get in here? Why is he here?" Her whispers held a tinge of
uncertainty.
"I believe our wolf napper has invited them," Kayn replied, gliding her
across the dance floor with practiced ease. "He's not alone either. He
has
quite a few friends in this room tonight. And as for why? Well, I told
you I
sensed something would go down tonight." He laughed softly. "I wasn't
wrong,
was I? But just think, if they are here then the one you are looking
for is
most probably here too. That is something to think about, no?"
Alorian studied the man for only a moment longer before turning
smoothly in
Kayn's arms and continuing the dance with him. She thoughtfully rested
her
head against his chest. Vampires. What would they want with a cub?
She'd
never been involved with them before and she wasn't sure what to think.
She
was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't hear the song end, or see
Alex
studying her from across the room. She did, however, hear the deep
throated
chuckle from Kayn, and glanced up at him.
He smiled down at her. "You shouldn't lose yourself so, someone might
try
and take advantage of you." He leaned close and brushed his lips in a
whispering kiss against hers. "Keep your eyes open," he whispered
before
stepping back and disappearing into the crowd.
Alorian felt dazed for a moment, and when her eyes cleared she say Alex
watching her from across the room. He was too far to call out to, but
close
enough that she could make out the look on his face. Then suddenly
there
were a crowd of people in front of her. When they passed he was gone.
Alorian bit her lip and went to find another drink, and perhaps get
another
look at the Vampire. She hoped Alex would understand that it was all
business tonight, or so she was forcing herself to think.
As she disappeared from his sight Alex turned his gaze to Kayn. It was
time
to have words, he thought. With a somewhat determined stride Alex made
his
way to where Kayn was.
