Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] - Are You Sleeping?
MD 4 1800
Miaren's Quarters
It had taken Miaren time to finally relax enough to allow the
relaxation
tapes she had for such events to finally slowly lull her into a place
she
could rest and regain her energy.
The silvery blue of his eyes haunted her, and were always there
watching
her..she could feel them watching her even while she slept.
Silvery blue eyes..faded so light. It was the starkness of the red
lines
around then that made them appear even more translucent than they
really
were.
Why did those eyes now follow her? Why was she now haunted by them?
What
did it all mean?
Miaren finally sat up; she was tired of tossing and turning. "Lights"
she
called out softly and closed them as the glare made her eyes hurt. Is
that
how they feel in the sunlight?
Miaren sighed and got out of her bed and made her way into the shower.
That
is what she needed. A good long hot soak with the water set to a good
hard
pounding beat so she could get her mind off his eyes...the coolness of
his
touch, and his unspoken invitation to stay forever with him.
Miaren did not really look at herself as a romantic. So why was his
invitation so inviting?
As she let the water pound her shoulders, head and back of her neck to
help
relax her she went over the events she remembered.
She then went over the meeting with both Istria..and then the
debriefing and
fact sharing meeting with the others.
Why was she able to speak to Istria..and not the others? She knew what
had
happened..right after she returned..she could not tell them what she
knew...why?
And more interestingly was, why had the First Officer not been able to
remember what had happened? Was she affected as she was? Did
Commander
Phillips really remember, only like Miaren she could not speak of it?
What kind of mind control was this? A natural developed phenomenon? Or
was
it some sort of created one? Certainly they had the technology for
such
things...didn't the captain say that once she and the commander stepped
into
the Castle all traces of them vanished?
Miaren stepped out of the shower and proceeded to finish up with her
routine
of drying her hair. As she stood of front of the mirror, one towel
wrapped
around her lithe frame and the other in her hand as she gave her hair a
good
rub down, she stopped and looked in the mirror as a thought struck her.
What IF the commander did not remember everything? What if for what
ever
reason only she remembered certain parts..what if together they could
remember the whole mission?
The first officer did not appear to remember and not be able to say
it..no.she looked truly worried that she had no clue as to why they
followed
the Marquis to his Castle and then not be able to account for almost 6
hours.
6 hours!
Had they really gone missing for that long? It did not seem like that
to
her..and when telling Istria about it the tale did not take all that
long to
tell...so perhaps...
Maybe she was trying to look at things too complicated. It was a fault
that
Kaleb often spoke to her about. She never went for the simplest
theory..she
was also so sure it was the more complex. Something there was just
something there..because it was a fluke.
She then finished up with her other little rituals she performed more
out of
habit she had learned as a young child from her mother.
Once dressed and things straightened and neatened up and put
away..Miaren
checked the time. She blinked.
2 hours? She had only slept less than an hour or so? She sighed and
pondered just what she should do. She had been ordered to nap and rest
up
from the ordeal of the mission.
Well, she did take her nap. And obviously she was rested up enough to
continue researching for a time. He had not forbidden her to leave her
apartments. She did not wish to stay here and wait to be allowed
to....allowed?
Miaren stepped to her door and pushed the button. It slid opened
silently
and effortlessly. What she did not see there gave her only a slight
hesitation before she smiled and stepped out into the corridor.
No one was there standing guard over her...and no one to know she was
now
headed to her lab to go over the results from all the findings. She
also
wanted to check on a few things...something her father had said when
telling
her not to stick her nose in where it did not belong.
Miaren made her way to her lab without anyone seeing her..not that she
was
trying mind you, it was just another little sign that she was meant to
be
there. She stepped in her lab and closed the door.
She opened her files and went to find the last letter her father had
sent
filled with news from home, and woven in between was his warning to her
and
for her to be careful. She pulled it up and went to get some tea and
some
nibbles she kept for just sort a purpose.
Miaren was use to long hours and days in the lab, and had trained
herself to
live off of munchies and little snacks that she washed down with her
blessed
and sacred tea. She knew when to take a break, to walk and pace and
change
her scenery so that she would not get too over tired and miss
something.
Sitting back down she re-read his last letter..and not finding what she
had
sworn was in there.went back to the next letter...she finally found the
little tidbit that he had given her.
Well, in a way..he had not known he had given her a clue. For in
truth, he
knew the man..and they had spent time together when younger..and he had
come
in at times to help with a class or lecture to all the young cadets.
Funny that her father should have run into him just after she had taken
this
mission. Funny that he had struck up an acquaintance again after so
long of
a silence between them.
Miaren had been taught by the best..there was no such thing as a
coincidence. Something was going on here and Miaren was going to get
to the
bottom of things.
Who had suggested to Captain "Willy" that she would make such a perfect
member of the ****p's crew? When she had never gone in that direction
once..she had always been ear marked for genetics and research to carry
on
her parent's work.
Why did they wish an inexperienced book worm to be chief medical
officer?
Someone who knew that the Capricorn was going to be pulling this
assignment?
Someone who had done their research on the Captain and crew and knew
they
could ensure that this mission would go as the last ones did?
Miaren bristled with indignation. How dare they use her! She had never
been
pro Star Fleet..nor the military as a whole. She had also never been
what
she called political and learned at an early age to stay clear of that
whole
mess.
It was why her father had chosen the higher road and taught principals
at
the academy. Only to spend part of his time away doing what he
preached.
Miaren was not about to bring shame on her father.nor the family name.
She was not about to allow some nameless shadow in the hierarchy of
Star
Fleet get away with this either. Someone had made a terrible mistake,
and
error that cost many their lives, and ruined the careers and lives of
the
survivors.
Not to mention the poor inhabitants on the planet who were abandoned to
their fate. She bet they had not been given a say in what had happened
here.
No..this just reeked of dirty double dealings..and she was just not
going to
stand for it. Miaren paced the floor of her lab trying to work out all
the
different scenarios so she could begin to solve this riddle.
If Miaren could work it through...she would prove the innocence of all
and
condemn those who had caused this.
But...first..she needed to handle this like a lab experiment. She
needed to
go step by step and prove her theories so she had something to hand
back as
proof.
So.where to start?
What set this whole incident up? Miaren paced the floor of her lab and
let
the thoughts and theories race through her mind and bounce off each
other
until she stopped dead in her tracks and grinned.
Oh course...she slapped her forehead and shook it for emphasis. How
could
she have been so dense? How many others missed it as well..like her
father
use to say.when wi****ng to hide..do it in plain sight..and no one will
notice.
That is why so many took no notice..and why all the records had been
lost..or changed and no one paid any mind. Now...how did she bring
this to
someone's attention? Better yet..who did she trust enough with this
bit of
information?
Miaren spun around as the door to her lab opened and standing in the
doorway
was First Officer, Commander Phillips. Miaren had not learned enough of
this
woman to read her well.
Her body language spoke of partial intrigue and amusement. She was
always
stern and unapproachable. But she appeared not to be too surprised to
see
her here.
"Commander." Miaren responded with a salute.
Montana eyed her with interest and suspicion. She was not sure how she
felt
about this young woman. Just when she thought she figured her
out...something changed it.
"Up and about I see Dr." she responded with mild amusement.
"Aye, commander." Miaren answered simply and curtly. She had learned
one
thing from this woman.she did not really like long complex answers.
She was
all about simplicity; simple, straight, forward facts.
"Care to join me on a fact finding scientific mission?" Montana asked
watching for her reaction. The one she got was not the one she had
expected.
"Sure." She answered a little too enthusiastically. She knew she could
not
keep the excitement out of her voice.
"Good, I need you to double as both medical and science officer." She
replied evenly as she turned to leave the lab. "Meet in trans****ter
room
within one quarter of an hour."
Miaren watched her walk away and she grinned. Another sign..it was too
perfect..this was why she was here, at this time. She had not had the
chance to even move when her first officer stuck her head back in the
doorway.
"Dress warm, and for heavy climbing and unknown conditions." She
instructed.
Miaren nodded and before Montana had removed her head from the
doorway
Miaren spoke up.
"Where are we going?" she asked, already somehow knowing the answer.
"The original blast area and with luck the mine." Montana disappeared
and
Miaren turned away and went to her kit and began to pack what she knew
would
be needed.
She could not get the grin off her face. Yes..another sign..
[TAG TREE - let the adventure begin]
[SUMMARY]
Miaren finds she can not sleep as the events of the previous mission
keep
her pondering all the many questions she can not answer. She finally
decides to head to her lab to see if perchance she can work through
these
nagging questions and begin to solve the mystery of this mission...and
other
things. She is interrupted in her brain-storming by the first officer
and
invited to go on another fact finding mission. She learns it is to the
mine...and Miaren sees it as a sign and agrees to come along.
