Scene: Vic and ****kyo's flat, before the gala

****kyo was near bursting by the time Friday came around. She had gone
out
shopping as soon as she discovered that she didn't have anything to
wear to
the gala. Well, nothing that looked right, at any rate.

And now that the time had come, she was ru****ng about, getting herself
ready. She couldn't understand how it seemed that Vic took no time at
all to
get ready to go out, while it could take hours to get herself to appear
just
right. Of course, she did just spend two hours tying beads into her
hair
this time, so maybe that accounted for the time difference.

****kyo had all but emptied the nearby Egyptian shop for clothes and
accessories, even finding a large, lapis lazuli piercing for her belly
button. Bracelets adorned her wrists, and two writhing 'gold' s****s
wrapped
around her upper arms. Scarab beetle-shaped earrings ****mmered when the
light caught them. She had even found a lovely silver anklet with tiny
ankhs
on it, which she wore above sandaled foot. She had pleaded with Vic to
let
her wear her lapis pendent again, finally promising that if anything
should
happen to it again, she would shave off her prized blue hair.

She had at first wanted to be authentic, but soon realized that actual
Egyptian clothing wasn't all that interesting or ***y, so soon turned
her
mind to Hollywood movie fantasy. She had found a delicately embroidered
loincloth, consisting of two wide strips of fabric that fluttered just
above
her knees, attached with a fine chain that hung snugly on her hips.
With it
was a matching corset-like strapless top that tied in the front,
leaving a
gap that she hoped was more ***y than revealing.

Finally, she had spent almost as much time with her make-up as she had
with
her hair. Around her eyes she had drawn thick hieroglyphs with
blue-black
eyeliner, taking her time to make sure they matched each other
perfectly, as
if reflected in a mirror. The hieroglyphs were stylized eyes, each with
a
thick line that tapered running alongside her nose, and a long,
spiralling
line across her cheeks. She topped it all off with her favourite blue
lipstick.

"Ka-waiii!" she said to herself, grinning at her reflection in the
mirror.

Now then, the final test. She paused at the half-open door of the
bathroom.
"Are you ready, Vic?" A silly question, really. Vic was always ready
before
her, but ****kyo always asked anyway.

Vic leaned in the doorway with a smirk. In token concession to the
formality
and theme of the occasion she'd donned a blazer of glove-soft black
leather,
a black tuxedo ****rt, with scarab-shaped cufflinks, and neatly pressed
black
slacks. Even her boots had been freshly polished, and the buckle of her
belt
was a heavy pewter Eye of Horus.

"Now I have to go," she chuckled. "I can't let you out alone looking
like
that. Is that all, or do you have more primping to do?"

"No, I'm done." ****kyo then gave a sly smile, and sidled up close to
Vic.
"Does this mean you'll be keeping a close eye on me tonight?"

Before Vic could answer, the door buzzer sounded. ****kyo frowned as Vic
glanced at the time. "That would be Llewelyn." Vic said, looking back
to
****kyo. "And don't pout, you're the one who thought it was a good idea
for
all of us to go together."

"Well, I didn't think she'd show up on time." ****kyo grumbled, picking
up
her small handbag. How ****kyo got even half the stuff she had in there
inside the bag, Vic didn't know.

"And when don't I keep an eye on you, minx?" Vic allowed herself a
faint
smirk, headed for the door. "I'm a bit startled as well. Llewelyn
operates
on Pagan Standard Time." Actually, it was unusual enough to make Vic a
bit
wary, but she didn't see the need to let that on to ****kyo when it was
probably nothing.

Llewelyn smiled at them as the door opened. "Ready to go?" She asked.

The man with her stared at the two, then quickly blinked and attempted
to
act as if nothing happened. "This is my cousin, Emerson, the one who
got the
tickets?" She prompted.

The man flushed briefly. "Oh, yes, hello, it's good to meet you. Umm,
Winnie
...." He stopped as he received a sharp elbow to the midsection. "Erm,
Llewelyn has said so much about you." He gave a tentative smile, and
held
out his hand.

****kyo jumped in and shook his hand enthusiastically. "Oh, thank you so
much
for letting us use the tickets. I'm sooo excited about going."

Emerson was left speechless, his eyes all but bugging out at the vision
before him. Though tattooed with a variety of designs, they seemed to
make
her all the more alluring. He was even more flabbergasted when she gave
him
a quick hug and peck on the cheek.

Vic longed for a cigarette, but knew better than to ask. Llewelyn had a
variety of anti-smoking tirades, from 'it's an affront to the Goddess
to
abuse your body with that horrible nicotine' to 'it's an insult to
Native
Americans to use an herb they reserved for sacred ceremonies with such
casual disregard' to 'buying cigarettes sup****ts those dreadful
cor****ations
who sup****t the Evil Patriarchy'. For want of something to do with her
hands, she crossed her arms.

Watching Llewelyn's cousin try not to hyperventilate was amusing.
****kyo
never could resist a chance to play 'freak the mundanes'.

The drive to the ball went smoothly, with Llewelyn and ****kyo chatting
for
the entire trip. At times, ****kyo would snuggle up against Vic, both
for
comfort and to get a rise out of Emerson. Once they arrived, ****kyo
gazed
out at the line of limos and expensive cars. Seemed a lot of im****tant
people were invited, or at least those who thought they were im****tant.

The line was excruciating long and boring for ****kyo. She just wanted
to get
inside. Eventually, though, they got to the front, where they
discovered
that their hosts were the women they had met at Wyrmwood.

A gasp from one of the other guests carried to them, followed by a "I
can't
believe what THEY are allowing in these days..."

****kyo looked over to see an older woman being escorted away by a young
man.
Shame. If the older woman had still been looking, ****kyo would have
planted
a big kiss on Vic just to give the old biddy a heart attack.

They shook hands with Fi, who gave them a big smile. "We're so glad you
could make it. Please enjoy the evening."

"Thanks!" ****kyo said happily, "Looks like it'll be fun."

Vic was undecided about that. It looked like it was going to be a bunch
of
high-powered fops schmoozing with other high-powered fops. Still, there
was
the free food and drink, so it wouldn't be a complete waste.

****kyo drew more than a few glances and stares from the guests as they
maneuvered through the pockets of guests, and drew even more when Vic
placed
her hand in its customary place at the base of ****kyo's neck.

At the bar, the two kept to themselves, watching the guests filter back
and
forth amongst themselves. ****kyo laughed and said that they looked like
fish, swimming to different parts of the same coral reef.

The party had been flowing smoothly. A couple nearby left the bar in a
hurry, and ****kyo thought she recognized the woman. But before she had
much
time to think about it, the music and conversation died out suddenly.

Day 8

Sara was sitting in Cassandra's shop working on a dress for one of
their most difficult customers. It seems this girl, who is one of the
shop keepers daughters, seems to all ways find something wrong with it.
Either it's not revealing enough or it's to revealing, the hem is
either too high or too low, or any number of things she could find
wrong with it. Well Sara was not complaining she pays well for the
merchandise and it give her work to do. Witch seems to be getting more
and more. Sara looked over at her master and mentor it seems that age
is catching up to Cassandra. Of all the people in the warren she was
the one the Sara hoped and expected to live for ever. With all the
stories that she tells of her past experiences and all the things she
lived though you'd think that a little thing like old age wouldn't slow
her down one bit.

But the young apprentice sees pain in her eyes every time Cassandra
moves. Plus the old seamstress seems to be using her Caine more and
more when she walks. Still despite all this Cassandra always seems to
be smiling. Sara wished she could be like her sometimes. Walking strong
and all ways having a smile of her face no matter whats happening.

Sara knows that everyone is worried about her. Link and Amy most of
all. It seems Cassandra has become an im****tant part of every ones life
and every one would be saddened if something where to happen and was to
die suddenly.

Some commotion out side the shop brought her out of her train of
thought. Some people ran buy talk excitedly about something but Sara
payed no heed. Some of the people seem to get excited every easily.
That was until Brenna burst in the door." Sara what are you doing
here?" she asked the young apprentice. Brenna excitedly pointed
outside," Come on! They are hatching!" The tall blond grabs Sara's arm
and practically Dragged her out of the store.

"What are you doing Brenna?" Sara asked as she was being pull toward
the hatching cave." I have a lot of work to do you know."

Brenna stopped and turned around. She looked the young apprentice in
the eye." Now Sara," she stated," We all know what you dad dose to you
and your mom. Plus he's been quite outspoken about where he thinks a
woman should be."

Then she grabs Sara's again and hurriedly heads toward the cave
saying," I as your friend cannot let you throw this ,witch may be your
only op****tunity, away. I'll be damned if I'm going to let the happen."

nrpg: I'll have to post the actually hatching in my next one I'm sorry.
