Subject: [DL-W] The Great Beyond
Day 16
Morning
Matt peeked around the corner, ducking back when he saw the coast was
clear. He looked back to make sure that the guards he had subdued were
securely bound, and found that one of them had woken up and was glaring
at him. Matt moved over to the man and kneeled down, his tall thing
frame bending like a spider.
"Listen stupid, you and your men almost made a very bad mistake. If I
had wanted to, I could have broken the skull of each and every one of
your men, including yourself. When the city militia finds you, tell
them that they have seen the last of Matterick Anoris, and he will kill
anyone else who tries to capture him." Matt hissed near the Seargent's
ear.
Leaning back slightly, Matt reached and grasped the mans collar,
between the neck and shoulder, and pinched hard. The man convulsed
once, then his head slumped forward as he fell unconscious. Reaching
down, Matt removed the guard's money pouch, slipping it into the pocket
of his new pants. Standing up, Matt nonchalantly walked out of the
dark alley and slipped into the press of people walking down the main
street in Marketa.
Matt whistled a nameless tune as he neared the main gates, his freedom
only a few more steps away. His insides clenched as he passed by the
sentries at the gate, but they only gave him a glance before going back
to their positions, expressions of extreme boredom on their faces.
With barely contained glee, Matt continued walking down the road,
heading straight towards the range of mountains far in the distance,
determined to put 10 leagues of distance between him and the city
before stopping.
"Welcome to freedom my freind, enjoy it, because you sure as hell
deserve it." he said to himself, smiling for the first time in a long
time.
Day 16
Night
Matt sat in front of the small fire, the light reflecting from his
eyes. The bundle he had stolen from the empy farmhouse layed next to
him. He had discovered this farm a few hours outside of the city, the
house empty, the family in the city. With ease, he had slipped the
lock and slipped inside, assembling a large pack worth of food and
clothing, which he was certain he would need in the mountain.
Reaching up, he popped in the last bit of his dinner, dried meat and
bread, chewing it as he wiped his hands free of crumbs. He reached out
and picked up a small log, tossing it in the fire and causeing a flare
of sparks to spiral up into the darkness above him. The sky was clear,
the stars bright pin pricks in the sky.
He wrapped his new cloak around him and leaned back, using his pack as
a pillow. He stared up at the sky, uncertain for the first time in his
life. He had actually managed to escape the prisons in Marketa after
seven long years in the prison. He felt the loss of Kila sharply, the
young woman thrown into prison shortly after him, then taking the 12
year old under her wing and teaching him all she knew about the world.
They had seperated once Matt had managed to pick the lock, and the two
of them sneak past the guards. The memory fo her turning away after
hugging him and disappering into the crowd would forever be burned into
Matt's mind, and he wiped a tear from his eye. He knew he would never
see her again, and knew that she had taught him well about living on
his own in the wilderness.
Sighing once, he rolled over, his back to the fire, and closed his
eyes. As he drifted off to sleep, the last thought he had was the
large emptiness he saw in his future.
[NRPG: Don't mean to rush anyone, but I think maybe it's time that the
wilder's eggs begin to hatch. You know why Arlene.]

Summary:
Day 16
Matt finally escapes from prison, dodging most guards but not all, and
having to fight his way through some groups. He manages to get out of
the city, stocking up in an farmhouse in which the family has left for
the day. As he camps that night, he feels great loss over the
seperating from the young woman who acted as an older sister for the
better part of the past seven years of his life in the harsh prison
life.
