Subject: [DL-W] To the Rescue

Day 16
Afternoon

As Sheldon straightened his jacket again, and wondered if he should
even
be attending the luncheon, a strong feeling washed over him.

Sheldon rushed out to the ledge where his yellow and purple dragon was
waiting.

<She needs me.  Let's go, Panzer!>

Panzeree turned and looked at his rider. There wasn't a question as to
whom it was that Sheldon was referring. It seemed almost every day
Sheldon was worrying about Ari. It wasn't as if he were in love with
her, as Sheldon's heart was firmly set on Issabol, no, it was something
else. It was as if his very soul was connected to hers.

Just that morning he had been overwhelmed by a feeling of dread coming
from Ari that had sent him rushing to her lab. Only he hadn't found
Ari
there, he'd found Elsa, snooping through her things! He didn't buy
what
the older woman had said about hearing someone in the lab and going in
to check on everything. No, he was sure that Elsa had been up to no
good.

But Ari, so sweet and innocent, took Elsa at her word. It still left
Sheldon feeling very uneasy, and he was bound and determined to look
out
for her. Ari was probably one of the few people in the warren he could
actually call a friend.

And now, that panicky feeling was prickling him again. He arrived at
the apartment where the Prince and his retinue were staying.

He knocked softly and wondered if he should leave, suddenly feeling
very
foolish. The door opened and a young woman stepped outside with a
basketful of items. She smiled warmly when she saw Sheldon standing
there, "Are ye here to escort the lady to the luncheon?"

Sheldon found himself smiling and nodding. "Yes, that's why I'm here."

Before he realized it, he was slipping inside and standing in the
parlor
where Ari stood admiring her reflection in a mirror. It was as if she
were wondering who that girl was in there. He smiled when she turned
with a look of relief on her face.

The Luncheon

J'red watched as the guests arrived. He smiled in greeting of several
of the local nobility that had come just that morning. The Vaddons
had
always been good friends to his own family, and before Jason's
betrayal,
it had been assumed that Jennifer would marry one of their sons.

He could hear Jennifer's high-pitched and absolutely false laughter as
she arrived on the arm of... J'red felt his fists clench... Reginald.
What in the world was his father thinking allowing her to associate
with
that snake? But Hamn Fowler was following behind them, and looked
rather amused.

The happy chatter grew louder and he saw the junior-queenriders
chatting
with the guests. They looked beautiful and he smiled and nodded as he
caught Faylen's eye. She noticed her blush and look away.

The chatter suddenly quieted and heads were turning. J'red followed
their gaze and saw Ari. This was the first glance that many of the
nobles had gotten of Ari, and the murmuring began again.

J'red found himself judging her with a more critical eye, but could
find
nothing wrong. She was beautiful. He found himself admiring her as
she
walked slowly, yet gracefully, in the unfamiliar dress and pumps.

But to his surprise, she was not being escorted by Prince Reolden. He
quickly shut his mouth which had dropped open in surprise. A flash
jealousy raced through him, and he felt his face getting hot. What
was
Sheldon doing escorting Ari?

[NRPG: Yes! Ready for that JP, Carys!]

Summary:
Day 16
Afternoon

Again, sensing something is wrong, Sheldon finds himself drawn to Ari's
location, only to end up escorting her to the luncheon.

J'red is observing the various people at the luncheon. He greets the
Vaddons, nods to the junior queenriders and then he sees his sister
arrive with Reginald. After that shock, he is confronted with Ari
arriving with Sheldon, rather than the prince and finds himself feeling
jealous.
