Subject: [WEB] JP - In the Lick of Time
Day 23
Night of the Gala
[SNIP]
Realizing she was free, she stepped back and away from him and then
turned
and rushed into the sea of people before her. As she moved quickly to
safety, and in a panic search for Fionula she heard his cackling in her
ears.
"Let the fun begin." She heard as his voice somehow echoed in her ears.
[END SNIP]
Kysen clutching her right arm as she tried to put the air back in her
lungs
rushed forward trying to stay one step ahead of the words that hissed
and
jeered at her. She felt the warm sticky wetness begin to seep through
the
light linen material of her sleeves.
Choking back a sob she headed into the crowd of people before her, with
her
only purpose of getting away from the beast and the memories he had
brought
with him.
Surrounded with self doubt and rising panic she blindly rushed
forward...and
bumped into something..or was that someone? She was too ashamed to even
attempt to look up to see to whom she needed to apologize for her
rudeness.
A pair of firm hands stopped her.
"Whoa Kysen, look out," Kayn said, gently grasping her by the shoulders
and
catching her before she fell. The terrified look on her face killed any
humorous comment he might have made. "Something's wrong," he stated
softly,
looking down into her eyes, "I can feel it." Kysen went to say
something but
couldn't get it out, ducking her head down and into his chest so as her
tears wouldn't be visible. But Kayn could smell them, as if they were
his
own.
The hair stood up on the back of his neck as a pulse of power spread
out
across the room, leaving a sickly tainted stench in its wake. "Shit,"
he
swore under his breath. In one motion he swept her into his arms, her
body
light against his as he turned and began making his way towards the
door. He
half murmured comments of 'had a bit to much to drink' and 'she just
needs a
bit of air' as he went, smoothing their path. As it was, most people's
attention was on the front of the room, where the music had suddenly
stopped. Kayn had a good idea of what was about to happen and knew he
should
get Kysen out of the open before it all started.
He ducked into the cloakroom and sat her down against the wall,
kneeling in
front of her. The scent of blood was coppery, mixed with the same
stench
that had tainted the air. Gently he took her arm in his hands and
sniffed
it. His eyes glanced upwards and met hers.
Kysen felt him lift her up and she nestled within the safety he
offered.
She felt cold and detached as he released her gently and knelt in front
of
her. She felt her eyes move up and lock with his.
The playfulness was gone, and lurking behind them now was something she
had
never seen before. She felt transfixed as they sat in the semi darkness
of
the enclosed space, not sure what had just happened.
Her mind screaming out in terror and agony of the memories conjured up
while
the soft calming voice within sending its soothing warmth throughout
her
entire being.
She felt his touch as he held ever so gently her wounded arm as it
cradled
within his hands.
"I'm not going to ask you how you're involved," Kayn said softly, his
eyes
still looking deeply into hers, "not right now anyway. This wound will
be
come infected if I don't clean it immediately." His nose could sense
the
wrongness of the wound, the toxicity of the blood as it seeped down her
arm.
Ever so gently he peeled back her sleeve from her arm, causing Kysen to
gasp.
"This will hurt a little," Kayn warned her, "but not too much." He
offered
her a small smile. "Trust me, ok?" Kysen nodded slightly and half
closed her
eyes. Kayn leaned in, bringing her arm up to his lips. His tongue
snaked out
and lapped at her wound with slow, even strokes. Kysen winced a little
at
first contact, but then began to relax as his ministrations began to
ease
the ache in her arm. After a minute she opened her eyes a little and
looked
at what he was doing.
"What are you..?" Startled a little, realizing just what he was doing.
Kayn
turned his head and gave her a look that told her in no uncertain terms
not
to move. For just the briefest of seconds.he reminded her of Lucien.
"This needs to be cleaned or it'll infect," Kayn told her calmly. "Now
stay
still." He returned to what he was doing, now running his tongue over
the
scratches up her arm, licking the blood from her milky skin.
Kysen could feel her arm stay warm where his tongue had been, the pain
slowly fading away and being replaced by a feeling of calm detachment.
She
glanced downwards, noting that Kayn seemed very comfortable with what
he was
doing, familiar even.
Her thoughts rushed back to Lucien for just a split second, then
turning
back to watching him he looked up at her for a moment, his eyes
catching her
briefly. She couldn't help but shiver ever so slightly, for his eyes
glowed
yellow under his brow. The gaze he fixed upon her was one that Kysen
could
not be entirely sure was human.
Kysen sat still as Kayn finished his ministrations and tending of her
wounds. She was still in shock over what had just occurred. With
thoughts
and old memories swirling around bring back various physical reactions
to
those events, Kysen found she could concentrate on..breathing.
Yes, she would sit here with...Kayn as he licked her wounds clean. Wait
a
minute...Kayn was licking her? Kysen turned her attention back to the
now
and found her self staring into yellow eyes.
Now where had she seen those eyes before? Surely in all her dealings
since
her rebirth she must have seen or remembered such a thing. Nope. She
was
mush, and watching his gaze become human again as if the...feral thing
had
not happen.told her she had WAY too much to drink.
She also discovered that somehow she could not begin to form her
thoughts
into words, so sat as if mute and she just knew he would think her the
village idiot. She was saddened by this, she had enjoyed their
bantering
while dancing earlier in the evening, and she had hoped they would be
able
to meet up again.for various reasons..and now she knew she had blown
that
option.
Craven fear kept attempting to crawl back from the depths and take
control
over her and somehow sitting here, in the near dark having him lick her
wounds.was soothing and kept the terror from returning.
Kysen struggled with trying to reclaim some portion of her thoughts,
for
behind all that terror and fear was something very important, and she
needed
to tell someone..Lucien to be exact, but what was it?
She returned her gaze to find Kayn silently watching her, studying
her.and
yes waiting for her to say something.
Kysen managed a weak smile and felt the tremors of her fright begin to
return.
"I think it's time you left this place Kysen," Kayn said softly, his
eyes
still looking deeply into hers. He sensed the fear and anxiety in her,
bubbling so close to the surface. No matter how she was involved in
this,
she was certainly in no shape to be dealing with it tonight. Reaching
into a
pocket, he pulled out a cellphone and dialled a number, letting it ring
once
and then hanging up.
Kneeling down, he once again took Kysen in his arms, cradling her to
his
chest as he rose to his feet and headed for the front door. No one
challenged them as Kayn strode out in the night air, the sudden chill
causing the lady in his arms to huddle closer, her thin dress not doing
much
to shield her from the elements. A silver sedan pulled up to the steps
in
front of them, a man getting out and opening the back door.
"Thanks Ed," Kayn said quietly as he bent down, sliding Kysen into the
back
seat of the car and securing her belt. He ran his fingers lightly down
the
side of her face and under her chin, turning her head slightly so his
eyes
caught hers once more. "Now Kysen, I'm going to get you out of here. Ed
here
is a trusted friend and he'll take you someplace safe, somewhere you
can
rest."
"But." Kysen wanted to protest, but found she lacked the energy to put
the
effort into it. Still something nagged at her mind, something she had
to
tell.
"No buts my lady," Kayn said firmly, a slight smile on his face.
"Please?
Trust me." He made to step back but Kysen managed to grab his arm,
pulling
him down to her once more.
"Please.help Fi. Don't leave her alone in there! He knows who she is
and
he'll hurt her..please." tears formed at the corners of her eyes and
she
ducked her head, as if ashamed that she had to beg his help like this.
Kayn
gathered her into his arms and shushed her quietly.
"I have no intention of leaving Ms MacCreavey alone," he told her
firmly. "I
will make sure she is safe for you, I promise." He leant in and brushed
his
lips against hers ever so lightly, then stood back up. Giving her one
last
smile, he closed the door.
"Take her back to my place Ed," he instructed the driver, "and don't
let
anyone see you." The driver looked at him disdainfully, causing Kayn to
chuckle. "Ok I should know better."
"I'll take care of her," the other man said with a grin and a nod. "Oh,
I
left a change of clothes around the side of the building." With that he
left
Kayn alone on the steps of the Gala, the sedan drawing slowly away.
Kayn
sighed and turned his back on it, heading slowly back up the stairs,
fingers
undoing his shirt buttons as he did so.
"This is a new suit too dammit."
