Subject: [DL-N] He's late, he's late for a very im****tant .......

Day 8 At the Hatching

K'tarr appeared at her side and Breezy glanced up and smiled. Even
though her size was more of a visual illusion she suddenly felt dwarfed
between the Wingleader and the Trainer. K'tarr nodded towards the
sands, "Sorry I'm late ran into a villager that was complaining about
some missing cows."

Breezy arched a brow and the taller redhead gave her a little smirk. "I
think I finally convinced him that dragons were not 'always' the
culprits when it came to missing livestock."

The red and blue bulk of Qualis edged closer to Coo's nest as he, like
the other dragons were always fascinated by the hatching eggs.

Leaning over towards her K'tarr lowered his voice. "I got a message
from Loki that he found some rather strange remains along the border.
If you have a few minutes later maybe you would like to go with me to
check it out?"

Glancing up at the tattooed rider Breezy frowned. She'd informed him of
the strange finds of a few days ago and they had puzzled over what
could have done that to a whole herd of elk and the look in K'tarr's
eyes told her that this could be more of the same. The Sr. Wingleader
nodded thoughtfully, "There's also some stuff I wanted to discuss with
you. Loki has been a good fill in for Landon but prefers to second
instead, so we need to decide on a permanent replacement."

The faint tinkle of bells surrounded them as K'tarr nodded. "Did you
have anyone special in mind?"

Breezy's eyes scanned the crowd a brief smile coming to her face as
they came to rest on one of the riders. "Yes, I think I do."

Again K'tarr nodded, "I'll come by later and we can talk on the way."

It was Breezy's turn to nod and she jumped when Galen's fingers dug
sharply into her arm. She looked up and saw beads of sweat on his
forehead, the gray pallor of his skin alarmed her. "Galen are you
okay?"

A pained look crossed the soldier's face as he nodded, "I'm just a bit
tired. Would you mind if I sit the rest of this out."

Staring hard into his face, "You sure you're okay? Galen you don't look
well!"

"I just think I need to lay down a bit is all."

"I can get Jale!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with concern as she
spun around to search the crowd for the healer.

"Breezy, don't worry I'll be fine. I think I really need to just need
to lay down."

Squeezing her hand he turned to go and she immediately started to
follow. "I'll go with you!"

"No!" The trainer answered sharply. Sighing his face softened then
leaning he brushed her cheek with his lips and whispered. "I'll be
fine, you stay and enjoy the fun." Breezy's lips formed into a worried
pout as she watched him walk away.

"Is he okay?" K'tarr asked watching Galen walk away.

Breezy took a deep breath then turned to face the tall redhead. "I
don't know K'tarr. He just doesn't seem to be 'healing' as fast as he
should. Even though the wounds have tended nicely he just isn't
himself. At times it seems like he is still having pain some pain but I
can't help but wonder if it's his heart that is aching. Guilt is a
terrible thing."

K'tarr folded his arms and silently nodded.

The little redhead sighed, "He doesn't sleep well, I find him pacing in
the middle of the night and when he does get to sleep it's almost like
he's..he's dead. I can hardly wake him. At first I thought it was the
pain medicine that Jale was giving him but he's not taking it anymore."

The corner of K'tarr's mouth twitched downward, "Would you like me to
talk to him?

Breezy hesitated for a moment as she knew how private Galen was about
such things, but she was also terribly worried. The death of Cyrus had
hit him hard in more ways then one. She knew it was something he had to
work through but she worried about the fact that at times he really
looked quite ill. Yet he would put her off claiming he was just tired.
Pursing her lips she looked up at the Alpha Wingleader. "That would be
nice, thanks."

NRPG: Just a little plot development to move things along.
