Subject: [USS Capricorn] Old Friends Die Hard
MD: 4; 2035
Scene: USS Capricorn Sickbay
Ensign Jayden Medina stood at CPO Dylan Wade's side as the man was
being
patched up by Doctor Kester. Wade had suffered grievous wounds after
being
attacked by a wild animal on the planet's surface. Medina was totally
worried by the CPO's prognosis. The doctor didn't give him much chance
of
recovery but Medina had insisted on her trying to save his best
friend's
life.
Dylan Wade was more than his best friend, more than his mentor, but he
couldn't let anyone on board know exactly what Dylan was to him. He was
afraid they wouldn't understand. Grasping Wade's right hand, Medina
spoke
softly but firmly to the man on the biobed, "Hang on, Dylan. You've got
to
hang on. You're going to get through this. You have to." Medina's voice
dripped with concern for his friend.
"Ensign, you've got to move and let us work," Doctor Kester said
urgently.
"I'm sorry, Doc. I just hate to leave him alone."
"He's not alone. He has the whole medical staff with him. I realize he
means a lot to you, Ensign, but if he's going to survive these wounds,
you've got the give us room to work.
"Doc, I don't think you have the slightest idea just what Dylan Wade
means
to me. I love him and he doesn't even know it."
"I know it, Rico," Wade said coming around. "I've always known how you
felt
about me and I truly feel the." Wade started to say before being racked
with
pain.
"Dylan! Dylan, are you alright?" Medina called out to his superior
officer.
"Doctor, he's coding!" a nurse called out to Dr. Kester.
"Ten cc's of cordrazine and on amp of epinephrine stat! Come on,
people.
He's dying and I will not have that happen on my watch especially with
Dr.
Hywell on the planet," the doctor called out to her staff. Giving them
something to focus on.
As they medical staff set to work on Dylan Wade, Rico Medina stepped
out of
their way. Just then, his combadge chirped, "Ensign Medina, you are
needed
on the bridge," came the duty officer's voice.
"On my way," Rico replied. And with that said he made his way out of
Sickbay and said a silent prayer that Dylan would be okay. He wondered
what
they could need him for.
Arriving on the bridge, Lieutenant, jg Mitchell told him to go to the
science station and begin scanning for the away teams' bio signs. He
wanted
to argue with Lieutenant Mitchell but knew it would be pointless to do
so.
"Yes, sir," was all the ensign could say. His heart sank when he got a
call
from Sickbay.
"Sickbay to Ensign Medina," came Dr. Shawna Kester's voice.
"Medina here. Go ahead, Doctor."
"It's Chief Petty Officer Wade, Ensign. He's dead. I tried everything
but
he didn't make it. I am so sorry. There was nothing I could do," the
doctor
said.
"Sir?" and Lieutenant Mitchell nodded in silent acquiescence to Rico's
unspoken question. Ensign Medina left the bridge for Sickbay. Arriving
once
more in Sickbay, Jayden Rico Medina moved to his friend's bedside and
touched the still warm skin of his face. Medina began to weep for the
loss
of his friend's life. Tears streamed down Medina's face. He tried to
hold
them back but could not. "Dylan Wade, you were my best friend and my
sparring partner. You will be missed," Medina said. "Ensign Medina,"
came
Lieutenant Mitchell's voice over his combadge.
"Medina here, go ahead."
"You're needed on the Bridge."
"Yes, sir. On my way," Medina huffed. This was not turning out to be a
good
day at all. First, his best friend died and then he's not allowed time
to
mourn the way he wants to. He even considered asking to be relieved of
duty
but then thought he better not because with the captain and first
officer
both being on the planet, the ****p needed all the capable Bridge
personnel
she had. So Jayden Rico Medina bucked himself up and headed to the
Bridge
once more and yet again. Arriving on the Bridge, Lieutenant Mitchell
asked
him if he was alright to continue his duties. Medina said he was.
"Then assume the ops console, Ensign," Mitchell said.
"Sir?" Medina said confused.
"Is there a problem, Ensign?"
"No, sir, I just thought that Ensign Baker had Ops. It's just that I
don't
work on the bridge."
"She did, but I asked you to take Ops. Again, I'll ask you if there is
a
problem?"
"No, sir. None at all."
"Then take Ops, Ensign."
"Yes, sir," Medina said with gusto. Looks like this just might turn out
to
be a good day after all.
Respecfully submitted,
Scott Huckaby
Ensign Jayden Rico Medina

Scene: Encampment on the High Road to the Castle of Light
Miv disentangled herself from her over-exuberant hugging of Calyn, to
rush
over to the Kenisha.
"Hey, Nish, what's up?" she asked. "You were brilliant! Everything's
okay
now! We can have dinner!"
The pooka then turns her attention to Sari. "Sari, what's wrong with
her?"
she asks, stroking the scarf-creature and trying vainly to wrap her
around
the eshu. "Can't you try to keep her warm, huh? She's ****vering!"
"Better to have dinner than to be dinner." Kenisha quips to the pooka,
though there is more of reflexive cynicism in the response than humor.
Sari responds with a flicker of dull blue color and a restless churrip
to
Miv, but otherwise is as unresponsive as any normal piece of silken
cloth.
Kenisha's teeth chatter a bit, though she is trying to control it.
"My companion is exhausted." The eshu explains, shrugging another coil
of
sari about her shoulders. "She is a creature of glamour, and we both
used
much in the display for our dragon. I have none to give her, but she
is not
harmed. She's just very, very tired."
"But I am glad you've come to help, not many a fairie lord would
appreciate
having an eshu picking through his equipment and I am afraid I have not
hidden any grand feast within my own packs." She winks at Miv, for a
moment
the sparkle of mischief ****nes. "So maybe you could go through our
Lord's
satchels and see what we can make for our dinner, now that we are off
the
menu. I'd like to get back to the fire and warm myself before my skin
turns
blue and someone mistakes me for a very small troll."

<Snip>
They took swords and lances off of the knights' armor and then forced
open the armory door. Ury was still amazed that no one had heard their
racket and come to investigate!
"Lovely!" Ury exclaimed upon entering the ancient armory. "Cross bows!
Exquisite design... and very functional." Ury was in heaven as he
examined the ancient-styled weapons. He quickly realized that these
were
not antiques but well cared for weapons. He handed them out to the
members of the merged away teams, explaining their use to those who did
not know. Slinging a quiver over the shoulder opposite his phaser
rifle, he picked up a compound bow and grinned. "This one is for me."
<Snip>
Montana's fingers ran across the fine lines of the crossbow her eyes
gleaming at the smoothness of the ancient appearance of the weapon.
Uttering something in Klingon she raised the crossbow and fired at
Moran the arrow piercing the beam above his head. The half-breed never
flinched or raised a brow as he inspected some rather large battle-axes
then snapped one across the room at the XO who easily ducked as it
embedded itself in the heavy door. Moran nodded with a pleased smile.
Ury's eyes widened and Montana grinned sardonically, "Just checking to
see if they work!"
A low beep from a tricorder sounded and all eyes turned to Ensign
Sartre. "I'm picking up a signal from a com badge!" He exclaimed in a
surprised tone.
"What?" The First Officer and the Security Chief questioned in unison.
"Did the Captain's team come inside?" Montana asked looking at Ury.
"They were still outside the perimeter of the castle the when we beamed
in. There's no way we could be picking them up through the dampening
field."
"Then that means they are inside the field now," Montana answered
gazing at the Ensign for a brief moment. Something wasn't right, damn
she hated not knowing. "Can you tell whose it is?"
The tactical officer tapped on the small device then looked up with a
smile, "It's faint, but I think it belongs to Martin!"
A flash of relief shown in her eyes for a brief moment, "Let's move
out, seems we've got more then one crewmember to rescue!" Montana
ordered, a knot forming in the pit of her stomach. This whole situation
smelled rotten from the word go, but the fact that Martin might still
be alive was a plus. Hopefully if they found one of the men they would
find the other, or at least know what happened to him. "Pair up, stay
close and do not wander out of earshot! Lieutenant, you're with me!"
Ury nodded, slinging the sleek bow over his shoulder he fell in step
with the First Officer.
Placing a hand on Montana's shoulder he stopped her for a brief moment
so the others couldn't hear, "Montana, I know this is going to sound
crazy but it was a small black cat that lead me to the door where you
were."
The First Officer stopped abruptly turning to gaze at the man as he
continued. "I'm sure it's the same cat that was on the ****p! How she
got here I can't even begin to guess or where her owner Petra is."
Montana stared at him for several moments the intensity of her
emerald-blue eyes making him uncomfortable.
The tall female just shook her head with a roll of her eyes, muttering
something about 'dense males' before turning to head after the team.
"Commander, I don't understand?" Ury asked hurrying after her.
Stopping again Montana straightened with a deep breath, glancing over
at the Security Chief she sighed, "You know Ury you're a smart guy.
Think about it, and if you put two and two together, you'll figure it
out."
Motioning for silence the group followed the signal moving swiftly
through the corridors inspecting each one as they went.
"Commander," Sartre whispered appearing next to Montana.
"What is it Ensign?" She answered matching his tone.
"The signal from Martin's com badge has started moving .. in a highly
irregular pattern."
"What do you mean by irregular?"
"Well Ma'am, it grows stronger then fainter and.." he hesitated before
adding, "is behind us now."
"What? How can that be?" Montana demanded before she and the others
within earshot immediately turned around to stare down the dim hallway.
Suddenly the com badge chirped loudly and an ungodly howling came
through, the low mournful metallic sound sending chills up their
spines. [Mrrrooooooowww...]
"Jeezus what the hell is that!" Dloan quipped in hushed tones.
But Montana heard something different and she stiffened at the words
that came through loud and clear. **C'mon Red, quit dragging your
behind! I told you to get a move on it!**
Tag: To those in the castle. Just a little fun! Feel free to jump in.

Commander Montana Phillips, USS Capricorn
***Summary***
* Montana's team arms themselves and a com badge signal is picked up
that they think is Martin's. They start out in search of the missing
crewmembers when the signal goes haywire sending a message that only
Montana can hear.
