NRPG: Sorry if this is the second time you're getting this. I neglected
to send it to all three lists the first time.

Day 17
Aeryth woke early to the sight of the sun just beginning to break over
the horizon. Half asleep as she was, she was confused why she'd be
seeing the sun rise from inside her quarters at the Warren and rubbed
her eyes in a dual effort to wake up and make sense of her
surroundings. She was in what appeared to be the center of a large
field of some kind and had obviously, from the fact that her back was
resting against the side of her dragon, curled up with Oriana to sleep
here last night. Nearby were the remains of a very small campfire.
Letting go of the blanket she'd been holding wrapped around her
shoulders, she stood and stretched.

<~Oriana, why are we in the middle of a field and not at home?~>
The silvery-green dragon turned to look at her rider, amber eyes
gleaming in the early morning light. <~Because rather than wait and
leave thismorning for Whiteriver like we were supposed to, you decided
that if they wanted you to leave that badly, then you would oblige
them. We camped here so you'd be fresh and alert to meet the new
Warrenlady there.~>

Aeryth paused mid-stretch, remembering, then groaned as she
straightened. Why had she done something so stupid? Ah, yes, that was
it. To avoid the feeling of being pushed away. Rationally she knew that
it was because the larger Warren she was going to would be a more
useful place for her to be, but it didn't quiet the little corner of
her mind that was snidely whispering that the folks at her previous
Warren just didn't want her around. That there was something wrong with
her because of her lack of a father.

Grimacing, she pushed those thoughts aside and started digging through
her bags for clean clothing, a hairbrush, and a towel. Upon finding
them, she walked over to the stream that cut through the field and
knelt down to wash her face, her dragon trailing along behind her and
looking for all the world like an oversized and very odd looking puppy.
<~It isn't like the people at Whiteriver have any idea about my home
life, right?~> she asked the dragon behind her as she washed up.

<~Of course not, sweeting. They'll think you're wonderful, just like
me.~>

Aeryth laughed at the rather conceited statement, dressing quickly in
the chill air. Settling her riding leathers to make sure they were
comfortable, she turned to face Oriana with a smile. "Lovey, that was a
naughty thing to say about yourself." Though she privately agreed with
her dragon's self *****sment, she didn't want her to make a bad
impression on the other dragons by saying such things. Bru****ng her
hair out as she went, she headed back to their make****ft campsite.

It took her some time to make sure all her instruments had survived a
night outdoors and were none the worse for wear and by the time she'd
gotten everything packed back up and eaten a bit of breakfast it was
nearing mid-morning. Oh well, there was no help for it. At least this
way the people she'd need to talk to when she arrived were almost
certain to be awake. She cringed inwardly at the thought of meeting all
those new people and devoutly hoped that she didn't arrive in the
middle of some sort of training maneuvers. Not only would it be
embarrassing to interrupt something like that, but she'd have so many
more people to deal with all at once. "Don't think about it," she
muttered to herself, checking Oriana's saddle and harness. "Just
don't."

Oriana watched her rider with concern. Her rider didn't deal with
people well at all and really didn't deal well with large groups. She'd
been trying to help with that, get her to open up and meet people and
make friends, but so far it had been like flying into a really strong
headwind. Still, maybe being in a new Warren, and far from her old
home, would encourage her to reach out a bit more. And besides, there
was the prospect of all those new males who'd likely never seen a
dragon as beautiful as herself. She preened as she thought about that.
What fun!

<~I guess I'm as ready as I'm likely to get. Let's go, before I lose my
nerve completely.~> Aeryth swung up into the saddle and secured
herself. Taking that as her signal, Oriana leapt into the air, her
strong wingbeats carrying them quickly aloft and toward Whiteriver
Warren.

A bit later

Oriana landed on the Green of the Warren and looked around with
interest, patiently waiting for her rider to dismount. Aeryth, on the
other hand, was looking around with a cross between interest and
extreme nervousness. "Please," she whispered to noone in particular,
"please let me find someone in charge quickly."

Aeryth and Oriana - aka: Steph
Summary: Aeryth and Oriana wake up in the small campsite they stayed in
after leaving their old Warren a bit earlier than they were supposed
to. After Aeryth gets herself together, they head to Whiteriver, where
Aeryth hopes to find someone to point her in the direction of the
Warrenlady or someone in a position of authority.

~C'mon. Gimme somethin' I can use. My give a damn's busted...~
~I really wanna care. I wanna feel somethin'. Lemme dig a little
deeper. Nope. Sorry. Nothin'. My give a damn's busted.~
