Day 17
Early Afternoon
Merissa's Office

Merissa had been surprised by the sudden appearance of Xanthia and a
stranger in her office -- right in the middle of a serious discussion
with Tatiana. She had wondered briefly where Eleanora was all morning,
as she would have prevented the interruption, but she guessed that the
young woman was enjoying her last moments together with the prince's
bard, Mahti, before the man returned to Ralengarde.

She read through the missive that the warrenlord of Keldarra had sent.
"D'Neor speaks well of you, Aeryth." Merissa smiled up at the young
woman, who appeared to be staring into space. "Aeryth? Aeryth? Are
you all right?"

Aeryth jumped slightly as Merissa reached out and touched her arm. "I
said, 'Are you all right?'"

The young woman blushed slightly, "Yes, I'm sorry, I...."

"Must be tired from your journey," Merissa supplied helpfully. "Let's
walk down the hall to the quartermaster's and see if he can find a
suitable apartment for you and your dragon."

"Merissa...," Xanthia interrupted, "There is something else...."

"I'll only be gone a moment, why don't you have some tea and make
yourself comfortable?" Merissa suggested to Xanthia before escorting
the young woman out of her office.

"Whiteriver isn't as large a warren as Keldarra, so you might find it a
bit easier to make friends here." Merissa spoke gently, easing the
nervousness of the girl beside her as they walked along. "So how long
have you and ... what was your dragon's name?" Merissa knew that
dragonriders who were shy when talking about themselves often had no
trouble opening up when it came to talking about their bondmates.

Aeryth swiftly answered, "Oriana. And we've been joined for just over 2
years."

Merissa nodded encouragingly.

"It was quite a surprise. We... my mother and I... went to the hatching
to perform...."

"Perform?" Merissa queried.

"Yes, she's a bard."

Merissa's eyes lit up, "Oh, perhaps I know her?"

"I... do not think so... I don't think she ever came to WhiteRiver."

The warrenlady shook her head, "No, but I've been to the Bard's Hall.
In fact, I pretty much grew up around it. My mother, Analise, is also a
bard, and..." Merissa winked, "So am I."

Aeryth's eyes widened, "Oh!"

"So, Aeryth, what is your mother's name?"

"Deanna Harper."

Merissa thought for a moment and then her eyes widened in surprise,
"Yes, I know that name. She was one of the instructors there... I only
stayed a short while, but..." Merissa eyed the young woman carefully,
"you do look... familiar."

They were standing outside a door to which Merissa turned and knocked.
A gravely voice answered something that didn't sound like, 'Come in,'
but Merissa walked in anyway.

The elderly man looked up in surprise and then quickly amended his look
to one of real delight. He obviously was fond of his warrenlady.
Merissa smiled fondly in return, "Pav'lo, this is Aeryth, our newest
rider. She just transferred from Keldarra and will be needing an
apartment."

"No doubt," Pav'lo chuckled, "And I suppose she'd be wanting one with a
bed and such, too?" He teased gruffly, pretending to be upset.

Merissa's bell-like laughter filled the room and then both Pav'lo and
Aeryth found themselves laughing, as well.

"Aeryth, I will leave you in Pav'lo's care. I'm sure he can find a
suitable escort to show you around." Merissa winked, knowing full well
that Gob would be around any second. The boy had a knack for knowing
when a new person had arrived.

---
[TAG: Eddie... Aeryth needs a tour guide!]

---
Pav'lo smiled to make the young woman more at ease. She appeared
nervous and ducked her head and looked around the room, rather than
meet
his gaze.

"I've a map of the warren here." He took a large parchment off of a
shelf. He placed a heavy book on one side and then spread it out with
one hand, his other hanging limp and uselessly at his side. "The ones
marked with initials are occupied. The ones with the red Xs are
uninhabitable at present. But any of the other apartments are free.
You and your dragon can check them out and see which one you'd like.

---
[TAG: Steph - Pav'lo also provides personal items from the warren
supply
stores.]

---
Returning to her office, Merissa poured herself some tea before sitting
down next to Xanthia on the sofa. "I'm sorry you walked in during our
discussing Corra, I know that must have come as quite a shock."

Xanthia nodded, "I still don't quite understand."

"We believe that Corra may have been poisoned... perhaps she learned
something she shouldn't have and someone feared she'd talk. I don't
know. But if that's the case, then we want to set a trap for whoever it
was. Tatiana is going to pose as Corra in the medical center... and
we'll tell everyone that she is ill. If the person that wanted Corra
dead is still around, he might be tempted to try to kill her again...
only...."

"Only it will be Tatiana! But what if..." Xanthia's blue eyes were
filled with concern.

"I'm not worried about Tatiana. Zenia will be keeping a close watch
over her rider and we will have riders close by to help in case anyone
should try to harm her."

Xanthia nodded, "I hope it works."

"As do I...," Merissa picked up the tea and was about to take a sip,
but
then stopped and stared at the cup, "A simple cup of tea...."

Xanthia reached out a hand hesitantly, then a bit more boldly, and took
Merissa's empty hand in hers. A cup of tea had cost Merissa her baby,
and perhaps any chance of ever having one. Now someone had used another
cup of tea to kill the old healer. It was too much of a coincidence.

Merissa shook her head fiercely, and took a deep swallow from the cup.
"I am not going to let them destroy my life. I will not live in fear!"

Xanthia nodded and withdrew her hands. Then she remembered the other
reason she had wanted to speak to Merissa. "This is something else.
This morning when we were out in the forest... Dru'Kar, Oberon, Alina
and me... we found an orphaned bear cub. The mother had been killed by
arrows, poorly shot, and only for... s****t."

"I am sorry to hear that."

"Arrows like this one." Xanthia reached behind her and pulled out a
broken shaft from her pack.

Merissa put down her cup and held out her hand to examine the arrow.
"The markings... and colors.... Those are... but that can't be right!"

Xanthia frowned, "What?"

"I know those markings, and they belong to the house of Fowler."

"Fowler? But who in that household would shoot a bear for s****t?"

"I don't know. But perhaps we should find out."

Carnival
Jael

He had been assigned another task that others wouldn't deem fit to
perform, but the disgraceful treatment continued and he wondered again
if he wouldn't be better off at another warren, though he doubted that
the warrenlady would write a decent transfer letter. He spat as he
sauntered up to the tents that were being erected on a plain just
outside the warren proper. He stared in loathing at the carnies as they
hustled about setting up for the show.

"I have been sent to find the master of this show," Jael announced as
he
stood in front of the largest tent.

An oily looking man came forward and sized him up with one beady eye.
Jael wore a fancy leather riding jacket and chaps, and stood with an
arrogance that could not be mistaken. "Dragonrider, I'll take you to
him," the little man wheezed.

Jael was lead to a man whose skin looked as weathered as old leather.
He was sitting in a small alcove of the tent obviously very busy
scratching down names and acts and ordering them for the show. He
glanced up for a second and then quickly rose when he saw the
dragonrider standing before him. "Master rider, what can I do for you?"

Jael sneered, but replied, "I've been sent by the warrenlady to inquire
if you'll be needing anything from our stores during your stay... and
to
also inform you that in the case of a wraith attack, our dining hall
can
accommodate all of your people."

"That is very good news," the man answered, "But as far as supplies...
you would have to talk to my foreman, Bubba. He'd know if we were
running low on anything." The carnie master looked around and caught
the eye of a boy who was carrying some buckets into the main tent,
"Boy!
You know the foreman. Take this dragonrider to meet him."

Matt nodded. It wasn't much of a question as it was an order. "He's
right this way."

Summary
Day 17
Early Afternoon

After reading the letter sent by the warrenlord, (yes D'Neor is a "he"
in Keldarra), Merissa chats with Aeryth while taking her to see Pav'lo,
the quartermaster. Pav'lo shows Aeryth a map of the warren from which
she can choose her apartment.

Merissa returns to her office and talks with Xanthia about the plan to
catch Corra's murderer and about the arrows that were used to kill the
bear.

Jael is assigned the task of meeting with the master of the carnival to
ascertain whether they need any supplies, and to offer the dining hall
as a sanctuary in case of a wraith attack. The master is busy and asks
Matt to show Jael to his foreman, Bubba, who might better answer the
question of supplies.

Subject: [USS Capricorn] Re-enforcements maybe?

Day ? (Pardon the time faux pas but HHD crashed AGAIN (Dell sucks
at the moment) and haven't been able to go fi****ng for timeline as
of yet)

The lithe woman sighed to herself as she hurried through the inner
walls. One thing the Ambraxian had learned about humans in her time
with Starfleet was their inane ability to be sneaky right down to
the very construction of their structures and this castle was no
different. In her time aboard the star****ps when not tormenting the
crew Petra would spend hours learning about the species she had come
to consider more pets then anything. From their ancient beginnings
she had discovered that they were almost as distrusting as her own
kind, even though they professed differently. The Prime Directive
that they weilded like a sword was almost a joke as they had their
nose into anything they could stick it into and they almost always
had a backup for everything, like making hidden hallways and
staircases for one. Supposedly such things were for servants, a
classification she found distinctly distasteful as it rang too much
of captivity. She didn't doubt for a second that anything 'hidden'
had a sinister reason behind it but it made movement around the
castle alot easier especially if she chose to be in her human form,
like now.

Normally she wouldn't have bothered but it had been awhile since
she'd fed and the fat rats that dared to brave the castle walls were
less of a distraction then when she was in her feline form. Not that
it helped much to squelch the rumbling in her empty stomach.
Starfleet was in trouble of that she was sure and they would need
her help so dinner would have to wait and from what she'd seen and
heard it wouldn't hurt to have some backup of her own and only a
predator such as herself would do. Hopefully the one she had in mind
was still there. Her hand tightened around the comm badge pressing
it again so that it would send another signal. Red was with the
others now and relatively safe for the moment. Petra could only hope
she figured it out and had the brains to follow.

[..] A short while later

The small black cat easily slipped through the cracks of mortar in
the stone walls. Stopping for a moment in front of the castle she
looked at the paths in the foliage leading away from the medieval
structure. With the comm badge in her mouth she raised her head and
sniffed the air then with a flip of the silky tail trotted off down
one of the paths she knew so well until. There was little emotion as
she came across the remains of those she could not save. Their bones
had been picked clean but the torn shreds of the uniforms were still
recognizable and a grisly reminder of what had happened only a few
nights ago. Pausing for only a few moments she continued on after a
fa****on dropping the badge where it could easily be found.

[..] In a clearing not too far away

<Snip>
Avi simply stood watching the two. He knew what it looked like, and
yet
still didn't understand it all. This would make for one hell of a
re****t.
If they all survived it.
<End Snip>

The spotted coat of the leopard blended in with the foliage it's
greenish-yellow eyes cautiously watching the odd reunion it's gaze
moving to the man in uniform. The air was electrified but not for
the reasons the cat hater thought. The cloying sourness that clung
to every breath didn't bode well and the she-cat watched the
Starfleet Commander closely, sometimes humans could be so dumb. Did
he even have a clue to what was approaching. Backing away the
leopard disappeared into the dense forest taking to the trees as
soon as she was away from the clearing. The sounds of a struggle
nearby touched her ears and she paused to listen. Distingui****ng the
voices her nose twitched at the possibility of a meal. This internal
feud was coming to a head yet despite the call of nature she would
not be deterred from her mission and moved silently and swiftly
through the canopy until she had reached her goal.

[..] Minutes later at the Shuttle sight

A few security guards milled around the area the approach of night
having them peering into the foliage nervously as they called back
and forth to each other. As the big cat began to descend from its
perch the spotted body began to ****mmer then shrink in size and it
was a black cat that landed on the leaf covered ground. The Cat-
hater, Red and the others would need as much help as they could get
and fast.

Easily avoiding the guards the little feline trotted undetected into
the shuttle finding the one she was seeking. This woman's scent was
strangely familiar, yet somehow different, and even though she
resembled a vulcan there was something different, something that
Petra could not quite put her finger on. But the woman carried an
aura of great power and that's exactly what would be needed.
Scooting behind a chair the cat watched the woman closely as she
bent under the console muttering to herself in an unfamiliar
language. After a few moments sure she hadn't been noticed the
almond shaped eyes took on an eerie glow. Moving swiftly the cat
trotted up to the woman and with a loud purr rubbed her body against
the woman's backside.

A'Kora jumped bumping her head on the underside of the console and
the engineer uttered a string of gutteral oaths as she swung around
to find a cat sitting there staring at her.

"So you're back?" The CEO said waving a tool threateningly at the
feline. "Shoo.....go away!"

Petra stared at the woman then began licking her paw the sharp claws
extending with each pass of the raspy tongue. **You need to come.**
she purred loudly in a way the woman couldn't understand. She rarely
spoke to any human-types, at least in a way they could understand,
but then she didn't have too. Though she wasn't telepathic she did
have the ability to mentally impress suggestions but this woman
wasn't as weak minded as most, and it was obvious it was going to
take a little more convincing.

Sheathing her claws the cat moved to the door then sat and gazed at
the woman. *"I think the Cat-hater and the others could use some
help.** the feline sounds rumbled in the confined space.

A'Kora's eyes narrowed as she stared at the cat. "What do you want
Cat?"

**The name's Petra and I want you to get off your behind and come
on!" She hissed in a non-threatening manner.

The engineer rose to her feet and the little black cat bounded
towards her rubbing around her legs almost tripping the woman. Then
running to the door the cat stopped and looked back meowly loudly.

A'Kora raised a brow watching the cat closely obviously perturbed
yet curious by the odd confrontation.

Petra sighed, this was going to be harder then she thought. Jumping
on a nearby chair her tail twitched sharply as she swatted the air
with a half meow and growl before jumping down and trotting in a
circle towards the shuttle door. **Listen I'm not a damned dog,
would you just c'mon!**

{Tag: Rob, you out there yet?}
