Subject: [USS-CAPRICORN] On the Right Track
MD 4:2200
(According to the timeline, this is almost midnight ship-time, right?
YAWN!)
There was the bleep again from an activated communicator, and that odd
noise that reminded one of a "Meow" that sounded almost as if.... Ury
shook his head. That black cat couldn't have a communicator and
certainly wouldn't know names! But the signature indicated it was
Martin's communicator, so either someone else had taken it or Martin
was
alive.
And if Martin were alive, perhaps Lewis was also... and they needed
help. It seemed obvious to Ury. Someone on that other end of the
communicator was trying to contact them and probably needed their aide.
"Tricorder's still not working, sir," Moran muttered. "But the
communicator's signal is getting weaker."
"We'll have to move out of the castle," Ury stated the obvious and
glanced over at Montana. "We've searched it from top to bottom. Found
nothing and no one. Commander, I really don't think J'sse and the
doctor are still here... and then there is Martin... or his
communicator."
Montana nodded, "You don't have to say anymore, lieutenant. We're
moving out. Everyone stay together."
Kuma took point and Ury the end guard. They moved cautiously, their
old-fashioned weapons at the ready, crossbows locked and loaded. The
stillness of the surrounding forest was eerie. One expected some sort
of
animal sounds, but here there was nothing; while the castle had
practically teemed with crawling things. Ury suppressed a shudder as he
recalled the giant spiders and cockroach-like things that had skittered
into corners and under furniture as they poked their way through the
castle. One of them had been so large, that a terrified Zefla had fired
a bolt at it.
Moran's tricorder was working again, now that they'd cleared the
castle's dampening field. He muttered, "We're getting closer to the
signal, but I'm not detecting any life-readings."
The line stopped abruptly and there was a deep silence. They shortened
up until everyone could see the remains before them. Well, they had
their answer. Martin and Lewis were no longer alive.
"The communicator was removed," Kuma remarked while examining the
remains. "Not torn off his uniform by whatever it was that killed
them."
"A trap?" Ury asked, circling around to look behind them.
"Well, let's not sit around and wait for it to be sprung if it is one!"
Montana motioned for Kuma to move out.
"Lieutenant Commander Philips, the communicator is still open, and it's
up ahead," Moran announced.
"Everyone look sharp!" Montana barked.
Eyes peeled and breath held, the small team crept forward, searching
for
the illusive individual with the stolen communicator. Moran slowed,
scanning the readings and glancing ahead. They were close, very close.
The tricorder bleeped, indicating they were almost on top of it, but
there was no one to be seen.
Then something shiny caught his eye. There on the ground lay the
communicator, abandoned right in the middle of what appeared to be a
well used path. They all stopped, silent and alert, as Moran inched
forward to examine the area surrounding the communicator, but nothing
indicated anything amiss.
He snapped up the communicator and silenced its signal. Giving the all
clear, they moved forward again. This time, however, there were
tell-tale footprints in the sand. Small, human-looking prints clearly
led the way forward.
But they didn't need anyone directing their progress as they could hear
voices ahead, and they didn't sound friendly.

[TAG: Josh... the cavalry has arrived, use them as you will.]

Summary:
MD 4 2200
After searching the castle and finding it empty, and with Martin's
communicator signal fading away, the away team determines to venture
forth from the castle. Once past the dampening field, the tricorder
leads the team along a path where they discover the dead crewmen,
Martin
and Lewis, and then further where they find Martin's communicator.
Hearing raised voices they continue along the path.

Respectfully submitted by:
Arlene Jacobs
AKA
Lt. Ury Rogan
