Subject: [DL-W] Can You Keep A Secret
[Day 17 Aeryth's Apartment]
Gob sat waiting just inside Aeryth door way as she cleaned up, he
looked at
his basket wi****ng he had some more eggs. Nightwind and Oriana were
busy in
conversation as the large Black dragon darted through the air. Gob
knew all
to well his bond mate was showing off for the Silvery Green dragon.
The soft foot falls behind him caught his attention. With hair slightly
wet
Aeryth seemed ready for her tour. Getting up and bru****ng him self
off,
"Well for starters I'll show you around by foot I think Nightwind wants
to
give Oriana the tour by dragon air if that's ok."
There was a deep resonate squeal from outside as though Nightwind was
in
agreement. But all the loose things in the apartment shook and raddled.
Gob
waited as he watched Aeryth commune with her dragon before she nodded
agreement.
With a smile Gob led the way opening the door for Aeryth, "Hmm what to
see
first I suppose would be a start."
"Thank you Gob for showing me around." Aeryth said as she watched
Oriana
disappear and the door close behind her.
"No problem at all, besides being the searcher I enjoy being a guide,"
Gob
smiled. "Come on the first thing your likely going to want to know is
about
the hot pools." With that they headed down the stone corridors. "There
are
others near by but you're fairly far away from the more busy
apartments." A
few doors down Gob stop and pushed a door open.
Aeryth looked in the room, steam rose up from the small stone basin,
and six
clean towns hung on hooks. Gob walked over tested the water with his
right
hand and smiled then checked the small basket near by. "Who else uses
the
place?" Aeryth asked as she eyed the towels.
"Well anyone could really but if you need to know who, you could ask
Oriana
she could find out from the other dragons." Gob smiled, "Tell me what
do you
think of these soaps I brought them from the farmers because they
smelled
pretty." Gob handed the basket to Aeryth which gave off an aroma of
various
flowers and each of the soaps was of different colors.
"Very nice, so um you use this bath house." She asked handing back the
basket.
The boy laughed for a moment, but seeing as Aeryth only looked at him
quizzically he stopped him self. "Na, sorry I think they have me in
the
most secluded place possible upon me being a hellion or some such
Pav'lo has
many names for me, so much that sometimes I forget who I am." With a
bit of
a blush Gob looks at the soaps, "Among being a searcher, guide and
scapegoat
I also have a number of chores and that is helping Pav'lo get stuff
down
around the warren." The young man grimaced as he remembered a chore he
had
forgotten this morning.
'Everything ok?" Aeryth asked.
"Yep, much more to see," as they exited the bath room Gob turned and
looked
her up and down. "Yes I think your small enough."
"Small enough," she asked.
"Aeryth can you keep a secret, it isn't a great secret but well I don't
like
telling just anyone you see." Gob waited for an answer.

[DL-W] And the Light Turns On (JP)
Day 17, Early Afternoon
"Could you take me to him?" the young lady hollered up to him.
Matt finished tying the rope at the top of the pole, then winked down
at
the young woman. With a powerful thrust of his legs, he jumped out
from
the pole into a backflip, his back arched gracefully, then landed with
a
loud thud, rocking only slightly.
"Alright then, follow me if you will." he said, a slight grin on his
face. Turning on his heel, he began to walk back towards Bubba,
glancing
over at the dragon once again peeking over the tents. "Well, she
certainly
is a beautiful thing, even if her chest is harder then rock. Name's
Matt
by the way, recently joined up as a worker to set the carnival up and
tear
it down, and as an acrobat while the carnival is running. Pay is bad,
food
is worse, but it beats a sharp stick in the eye."
Faylen giggled at the comparison. "One would hope so anyway. By the
way,
that 'rock' is Shyla, and she found you quite amusing. She thanks you
for
the compliment, too; vain little thing"
<I am so not vain!> Shyla shot back.
<Are too!> Faylen shot back.
"Little?" Matt asked
"Yes," Faylen replied, "As queens go, Shyla's pretty small. She's still
young, too. Just recently took her first flight. Soon I'll be able to
ride
her!"
Matt laughed at Faylen's comment, waving at the indignant looking
dragon. "Well, she certainly does not lack spunk, that is for sure. I
don't know what just happened, but she looks like she is pouting. And
good
luck with the flying, for both of you. Beyond jumping from insanely
high
distances, I never knew what is was like to fly. Have you ever done
it? I
mean, what is it like, the complete freedom that comes from being able
to
look down and see everything?" he said, stepping to the side to allow
two
men to pass, carrying several long poles on their shoulders.
Faylen thought for a moment. She wished she knew, actually, but
reminded
herself that it wouldn't be long at all til she found out.
"Well," she answered at last. "As I said, I haven't actually ridden her
yet, but I would imagine it would be much like riding a horse, only in
the
air which would be better! The wind flowing through my hair, absolute
freedom No mountains or anything to hold us back!" The blonde
queenrider's
amber eyes glistened and the girl seemed to fairly glow at the thought.
Suddenly, something clicked inside his head, and he stopped dead in his
tracks, then turned to stare at Shyla. All the past days of wandering,
walking in seemingly no direction, directed only by the tiny voice in
the
back of his head. Suddenly, he realized that he might have discovered
the
answer. He locked eyes with the dragon, and they stared at each other
for
several seconds. Breaking contact, Matt turned and stepped up to
Faylen, a
troubled look on his face. "Before you answer any of my other
questions,
answer this. How do you talk to your dragon?"
"It's mental. Sometimes it's kind of auditory: I hear her voice in my
head,
she hears mine. Other times it's visual: I send her pictures, she sends
me
pictures. That'll be im****tant when we learn to tele****t," Faylen
explained.
"That's how it is with others who are telepathic, too, though.
Like Xanthia, who is one of our healers, and a few others around here
with
that particular gift, they can talk with all the dragons, not just
their
own, and with others who are also telepathic. Of course, some can only
talk
with the dragons through a mental link, and some only with people: it's
a
strange gift," the queenrider continued.
"But when it's your dragon, it's more than that, too. There's an
emotional
connection as well. What Shyla feels, I feel, and what I feel, so does
she.
It's really more than even an empath would feel, it's more like... like
a
soul bond."
Matt nodded once, concern on his face. He turned once again to look
back
at Shyla, frowning deeply. "I think that one of your dragons has been
talking to me. For the past several days, there has been a small voice
in
the back of my head, and I know now that it is not my voice. It is the
first time something like that has ever happened to me, so I am a
little
confused on how it could just spring up. I know I am not telepathic,
and I
have never spoken to dragons before, even when they came to Marketa.
Can you explain why I am hearing one all of a sudden?"
"I really couldn't say. There are eggs on the sands, but it couldn't be
that, I doubt they are developed enough. But I've heard that the people
with special gifts don't always have them from birth, sometimes they
don't
develop until a given time in a person's life."
Faylen's eyes seemed to dim for a moment as she sent, <Can you try to
talk
with our friend Matt, please?>
<Well, what do you want me to say?> the young queen answered.
<I don't know, try introducing yourself.> Faylen offered.
<Hello Matt,> Shyla said to the young man, <My name is Shyla. Will you
be
my friend?>
Matt stuck his finger in his ear, as if trying to clear it. "What is
that? Who is Shyla?"
Both Faylen and Shyla laughed, though it was Faylen who answered first.
"Shyla's my dragon, the young queen you... uh... ran into earlier.
"The 'rock'?"
Faylen nodded,."You might want to say 'Hello' back to her."
"Say hello?" Matt queried.
"Just think it. You now know what she looks like, so you can picture
her in
your head and think what you want to say."
Matt looked away from Faylen and back over the tents, where Shyla was
poking her head above. Narrowing his eyes slightly, he concentrated,
trying to 'send' his thoughts to the dragon.
For a long minute nothing happened, and he thought he had failed.
Then,
like an explosion in his brain, he heard <Well, that certaintly is
funny. What is that place I see, the place with no windows and lots of
metal bars? It doesn't look fun.>
Despite his control, Matt could not help but laugh. <No little rock,
it
certaintly wasn't. And that place is called jail, where I used to
live. And yes, we can be friends.>
<I have a new friend!> Shyla sent back happily to Faylen, <And a new
nickname, Little Rock! I kind of like that.>
Faylen joined in Matt's laughter. "Well, you seem to have made quite an
impression on Little Rock, I mean Shyla," she said, her amber eyes
gleaming
with amusement. Now, about that fellow, 'Bubba', that you said I need
to see?"
<<Tag Carys! Matt will then take Faylen to see Bubba at this point.
Remember, she's empathic, so feel free to have fun with that.>>

Subject: [DL-W] Grin and Bear It.
Day 17
Mid Afternoon
Merissa's Office
[SNIP]
"Xanthia, Dru'Kar and Oberon found a dead bear in the forest," Merissa
explained
"And this is the arrow that killed it?!?" Faylen asked, incredulous as
she regarded the marking on the shaft and recognized it instantly.
"One of them yes," J'red began.
But before he could finish his sentence, he was brought to his knees
with a grunt as Faylen's foot impacted with the wingleader's crotch.
"That's for senselessly killing a living creature and leaving it for
dead!"
Faylen ranted.
[END SNIP]
Trying to be the gentleman he'd been raised to be, he clutched at his
stomach while the pain just below where his hands clenched made his
head
swim. For a few moments all he could feel was the pain.
"Faylen!" Merissa cried out, then hurried over to put her hand on the
wingleader's shoulder and murmured, "J'red?"
Finally he coughed and gasped, blinking the tears out of his eyes, and
managed to wheeze, "Wasn't... my... arrow!"
Merissa shook her head, "Faylen, it wasn't J'red who shot the bear!"
Faylen's face blushed bright red, "Oh! Then who?"
"We don't know, yet." Merissa explained while keeping an eye on the
suffering wingleader.
Faylen frowned, "I should have realized that it couldn't have been
J'red. He never was as fond of ranging as Jason..." Faylen glanced at
J'red quickly and put her hand to her mouth, as she saw J'red wince at
the mention of his deceased brother's name, knowing how he still blamed
himself for Jason's death.
Merissa had turned away, puzzling over the arrow. "We were just
contemplating where this might have come from. Lord Fowler's men might
have been carrying some arrows to protect their caravan from attack,
but
I certainly don't want to blame someone without any proof -- knowing
how
Dru'Kar might react."
By now the pain had subsided to a more bearable level and J'red could
focus enough on the conversation to respond, "I will talk to my father
and his men and see if any of them were hunting... without making
assumptions." He glanced at Faylen, who looked aside, blu****ng again,
"...to see if I can learn anything."
"They might have been stolen...?" Faylen suggested.
Surprised, J'red looked back at Faylen and agreed, "Yes, I didn't think
of that. I could ask if anyone is missing any arrows first."
Merissa nodded, "Let me know what you find out."
J'red straightened, "I will," he turned sharply and left the office.
---
[SNIP]
*Late afternoon*
"Are we done for the day?" Faylen asked, looking at Merissa with an
urgent look in her amber eyes after being contacted (by) Shyla.
"Eager to go somewhere?" Merissa asked.
"The bear that was killed today? She had a cub. Shyla says Ursa's rider
Dru'Kar is looking for me to look at the wee one."
"Yes, certainly, go."
"Oh, they also need a spit from the kitchen to cook the dead bear."
Faylen added as she headed out the door.
[END SNIP]
Merissa's eyes widened, "They want to eat it??" She wondered how long
the thing had been dead, and worried if the meat could even still be
good. She would consult with Ybini, the cook, to see if she thought
the
meat should be used for human consumption, and if not, she wondered if
some of the dragons might not like it instead.
She was just wondering if her day could get any stranger when a very
distraught young woman barged in. Merissa recognized her face, but her
name escaped her.
[SNIP
The door to the warrenlady's office was open, but Jilly stopped short
at
the opening, and sucked in a ragged breath, her heart thundering from
the run and the fear. "Miss Merissa! Can ya help? I didn't know who
else t' tell. Them carny people that's setting up.they're beating
their
animals. I saw one of 'em take a whip after a poor bear that was too
bad off even to get up off the ground. You've got to stop them,
ma'am!"
[END SNIP]
"A bear?" Merissa's eyes widened in horror. If Dru'Kar or even
Xanthia
heard that a bear was being beaten, there wouldn't be a tent standing!
"By the egg! We can't have that!"
"No, Ma'am!" Jilly looked at her expectantly.
"Where is Jael?" Merissa fumed, "I sent him out there to check them
out,
and he didn't say anything about any animals being mistreated!" But
what should she do? She'd have to do something quickly, before Dru'Kar
heard about this.
Her mind reached out to Chrysthal and had the queen dragon contact
Ophar. She responded that Ophar was talking to the carnival's foreman.
Merissa asked Chrysthal to relay their concerns. She smiled as she got
the response that they would look into the bear's wellbeing. "There,
now! Nothing to worry about!"
Jilly looked confused, "Ma'am?"
"Chrysthal has spoken to Jael's dragon, Ophar, and right at this moment
Jael happens to be speaking with the foreman and they will take care of
the bear."
[TAG: Bianca -- will that satisfy her? Carys -- what are Jael and
Bubba actually talking about? And how will Bubba "take care" of the
bear?]
---
Summary:
Day 17
Mid Afternoon
After Faylen's surprise assault, J'red tells her and Merissa
that he was not the owner of the arrows that killed the bear, but that
he will look into finding out whose they were.
Late Afternoon
Faylen leaves a confused Merissa with the news that Dru'Kar
wanted a spit to cook the dead bear. As Merissa worried about the
safety of the bear meat, she is interrupted by Jilly who tells her
about
another bear -- this one in the carnival which is being beaten.
Merissa
asks Chrysthal to talk to Ophar, Jael's dragon, and find out what Jael
knows about the bear. Ophar tells Chrysthal that Jael is talking to
the
carnival's foreman and will look into the wellbeing of the bear.
