Subject: [DL-D] Are we seeing things yet?

Day 106 Dawn

After the battle Lexi had volunteered for night patrol much against
T'rell's wishes, but at the time manpower was limited and with all the
injuries the Wingleader had no choice. He needed the time to clear his
head and flying was the best way to do it.

There had been a few run-ins with Wyvern stragglers, but for the most
part both sides were licking their wounds and the shift had been quiet,
which was good because he was exhausted by the time the crimson giant
landed on the apartment ledge.

Having Samson send him a mental tally of injuries or to see if he was
needed the blacksmith wearily crawled into his bed with the reminder to
his dragon to wake him in a few hours. He wouldn't be able to sleep
long anyway, for the most part this thing with Sharees had him so riled
it made sleep darned near impossible.

[..] Late Morning

After spending a few hours in the smithy inspecting S'than's find Lexi
had even more questions about the unique ore, but the refining would
have to wait, a yawn and a grumbling stomach reminded him that he was
needed in the dining hall to help Akety.

<Snip>

"Wow. You did this?" Lexi let out a long whistle in appreciation.

Roxie grinned, "Sure did, big guy! Our little Akety here has the heart
of a wingleader."

<End Snip>

"Damn strait she does!" the blacksmith grinned broadly at the blushing
brunette. Even though Pandora had cleaned and dressed the burn on his
leg it still stung like crazy and he winced slightly.

"Lexi, are you okay?" Akety immediately asked in concern.

"Nothing that a big mug of coffee won't fix." He chuckled hiding his
discomfort. Looking around the dining hall he nodded emitting a low
whistle of appreciation. "Wow this is great! Guess you didn't need me
after all!" He added with a mock pout.

"Oh Lexi, we always need you!" Roxie purred breathlessly with a sly
grin, her comment bringing tittering giggles from some of the female
searchlings.

Arching a brow Lexi's moustache twitched in amusement "Is that a fact
darlin'?" He answered in a lazy drawl, his bright azure gaze raking
over Roxie in such a way it had Akety rolling her eyes and muttering
under her breath.

With a huge grin he gently chucked his new sidekick under the chin.
"Why Shortcake, I wouldn't forget you! You just say the word and you
and me..."

Akety's cheeks flushed deep crimson and lightly popped the big man on
the arm, "Lexi! Stop that, you are such a tease!"

"Yeah but you still like me anyway!" He chuckled with a lopsided grin
before growing serious. "Funning aside sweet pea, you did good, real
good! I knew you could do it and I'm proud of you!"

Despite her embarrassment a pleased smile came to Akety's face and she
beamed up at the big man, "Thanks! That means a lot!"

"Now if you 'really' don't need me..." he grinned with a lecherous
wink, "I'm going to get some coffee and see if I can put a dent in
Realee's buffet."

Day 107 Early Morning

Realee squealed in alarm as she was lifted up from behind in a big hug
then swirled around and became the receiver of a huge smooch. "Morning
gorgeous! Mmmm something sure smells good!" The blacksmith grinned,
holding the older woman almost nose to nose with him.

"Young man, put me down!" Realee exclaimed in a stern tone that didn't
meet her twinkling eyes. Smoothing her apron and hair then tucking in a
few stray curls that had come loose from the blacksmith's over-zealous
hello she clicked her tongue at him in a motherly tone. "Landsakes
Lexi, what has gotten you in such a good mood this morning?"

Pandora who was sitting at the cooks worktable sipping her usual first
'cup of the day' gave the woman a huge grin and a conspiratorial wink.
A move, which made Realee's eyes widen in comprehension, and had her
brother turning to look at his sibling.

"HEYA SIS!" He grinned moving to wrap his twin in a similar hug.

Pandora laughed throwing up her arms in mock horror to ward him off.
"Back off big boy, no flying for me today!"

Lexi chuckled and sat on the bench next to her. Staring at the empty
spot on the table in front of him he then looked over to the stove
inhaling deeply. "Sure smells good!" He grinned at the woman then back
to the empty spot in front of him..

Realee clicked her tongue and with a shake of her head waved a spoon at
him. biting back a smile she exclaimed in a Motherly tone, "Lexi, you
are so spoiled, you're rotten!"

Pandora started laughing, "Amongst other things too!"

Lexi threw up his arms in mock indignation then looked from one woman
to the other "What???"

"Flirting with my woman again I see!" Jer'lin said striding through the
back door.

"You betcha!" Lexi answered jovially as a heaping plate of food was
placed in front of him, the delicious aroma making his mouth water. He
didn't waste a second diving into the tantalizing fare and making
satisfying mumblings through his mouthfuls.

"Lexi, don't be such a pig!" Pandora clucked at her brother.

"Mmmm.it's good! Realee, you make the best damned food in the world!
Well, besides Sis of course!" he chuckled waving his fork.

Realee grinned, the full plate in her hand stopping in mid air as she
arched a questioning brow to her mate.

Jer'lin's eyes widened as he reached for the plate, "Yeah, what he
says!"

Pandora chuckled, "You'd better be careful Jer'lin, as much as Lexi
likes Realee's cooking he just might try and steal her away!"

"Fat chance!" He quipped with a grin patting his mate's bottom
affectionately.

Realee giggled leaning over a huge pot of stew that would be lunch
emitting a big sigh, "If only our handsome blacksmitth was ten years
younger!"

Jer'lin huffed indignantly and slid onto the bench on the other side of
Pandora. "Fine woman! Just for that I'm going to sit here and make time
with our pretty queenrider then!"

The silly faces the older couple made at each other had the twins
laughing and the kitchen became alive with the group's happy banter.

[..]an hour later in the diining room

Deciding to leave through the dining hall Lexi stopped and talked with
several of the riders. He was off today and planned on helping in the
smithy and maybe working on finding out what exactly S'than's rock
really was.

Several fresh trays of food and pastries had been set out and he
gravitated in that direction. Even though Realee had fed him well there
was no reason not to grab something to take for later, as then he
wouldn't have to stop working.

A familiar brunette stepped in front of him and Lexi smiled and nodded
to the knight standing behind her in the line. . "Morning Rayn, Alex.
Rayn you're looking awful pretty this morning!"

Rayn turned at the sound of his voice and gave the blacksmith a hint of
a smile, "Good morning Lexi and I look awful even though you are kind
enough not to say so."

"Everything ok?" He questioned.

Rayn emitted a forlorn sigh, "Just haven't been sleeping well is all."

She did look rather tired, and the dark circles under her eyes gave her
a haunted faraway look. "Darlin' you look just fine to me!" Lexi
chuckled filling a linen with pastry's. "So what kind of new cures have
you an my Sis cooked up lately?" Lowering his voice he glanced at Alex
then added, "You know Alex might be interested in that 'thing' we
'cooked' up."

Rayn glanced over her shoulder at the man behind who was suddenly
paying closer attention to the conversation in front of him.

Keeping her tone equally as low, "You know Lexi it was a good idea but
there is so many varibles. We discussed that, remember? That's why we
haven't used it yet. One tiny mistake could easily harm one of our own.
I'm thinking it could be too danger..."

Rayn's eyes widened, then blinking several times her mouth fell open as
she stared in shock at something behind him and Lexi immediately
dropped the linen and spun around his hand instinctively going to the
hammer that hung at his side only to find nothing there. Looking back
at Rayn his brow furrowed in confusion at the look on her face. Her
eyes were round as saucers and her face had gone white as a sheet and
she was staring past him as if he wasn't even there.

"Rayn, what is it?" Lexi asked his voice filled with concern. "Rayn!
Rayn!" He was almost yelling at her now and getting no response as she
stared past him with an almost frightened look. Grabbing her arm he
shook her gently to break the strange spell she appeared to be in.
Finally the lithe brunette looked up at him with glazed eyes.

"I...I.." she gasped out. "It.it can't be.." Tears swelled up in her
big brown eyes and Lexi's head swiveled rapidly unsure of what to
think. The knight began also to look around in concern until both men
finally locked eyes in befuddlement.

Pulling free of Lexi's hand Rayn began to mumble incoherently. Shaking
her head she began backing away only to collide with Alex.

 [DL-W] Of Destiny and Choice

**Afternoon, Day 16**

Latnem excused himself from Dalmar and went to work. But first, he'd
need
some 'medication' to relax his patient. With that thought, he went to
the
bar and procured two tankards of mead, having developed a taste for the

sweet brew since Dru'Kar's arrival.

He walked over to the table where Nerika sat and set one of the mugs
before
her.

"A shell shard for your thoughts?" he asked.

"I didn't perform as well as I'd have liked," the young woman
confessed,
taking a drink from the tankard that was set before her.

"Hm... That must be disappointing. I gather that singing is important
to you."

Nerika nodded. "It's everything!"

"More than dragonriding?" Latnem asked.

Before Nerika could answer a sweet, clear voice rang out in song. The
crowd
hushed as they listened, drawn in by the melody and the emotion with
which
the girl on stage sang. It was an old song that told of dragonriders
riding
high on the wind foils as they returned after a successful battle,
feeling
victorious and relishing in the freedom and the sensation of flying
with
their dragons.

"She's good! Who is she?" Nerika's exclaimed, turning toward the stage
to
see who the new songbird was.

There on the stage, her blond hair and amber eyes set off by the golden

silks of her new gown, was the new junior queenrider, making her look
like
a piece of sunshine. The girl's face just radiated with emotion as she
sang
the song from her very soul. But if that were not enough to enamor the
audience, there was that beautiful voice.

"Faylen?!?" Nerika blinked in surprise.

The audience applauded in genuine appreciation as Faylen curtsied and
stepped off the stage. It felt good to sing. It was something she
hadn't
done in a while, at least not for any other audience than the horses
and
injured animals she cared for.

<<TAG All who want to react. Arlene? Anyone else?>>

Latnem waved her over and Faylen took a seat, beaming still from the
rush
of the applause.

"That was beautiful." he complimented. He gestured over toward Analise
and
Mahti, who were murmuring to each other and gesturing in the junior
queenrider's direction. "It looks like even Analise took notice."

"Ah, it wasn't nothing. I'm just glad I could give a little pleasure to
the
audience." Faylen replied with honest modesty.

"Wasn't anything?" Nerika blinked, "That was simply beautiful! Where
did
you learn to sing like that?"

"No one taught me. I just like to sing." Faylen answered with a shrug.

"But why aren't you a bard with that voice?" Nerika asked.

"It's just not my destiny. Being a queenrider, that's where my destiny
lies."

Latnem watched as Nerika absorbed that simple statement. Yes, inviting
the
junior queenrider to join them was a good move.

"So, how do you enjoy being joined?" he asked.

"Me?" Faylen asked.

Latnem nodded.

"Well, it's a lot of work, and I'm not too thrilled with the office
paperwork." she confessed. "But, it's so worth it to be joined to
Shyla!
it's wonderful. It's everything I ever dreamed of, sharing a soul-bond
with
such an amazing creature."

"You sound like you really love Shyla," Latnem commented, further
directing
the conversation.

"How could I not?" Faylen gushed, "She owns my heart and soul and I own
hers."

"Isn't that a tad dramatic?" Nerika asked.

"No, indeed. It's the truth! Think about it. We each share each other's

thoughts, we feel what the other feels. And if one of us were to die,
likely the other would too."

"But clearly you have a gift with singing. I heard you and saw you up
there, you love it. Wouldn't you rather be doing that?"

Faylen smiled warmly, "I do. And have a gift with animals, too and love

working with them. And I can do both to my heart's content when time
permits. But you can't choose your destiny; your destiny chooses you.
And
when Shyla hatched from her egg and chose me to join with her, that was

destiny."

**Late Evening* - Garden**

<<SNIP Jumping to Conclusions (JP)>>

"How about some... air?" He suggested.

With relief, she nodded and she quickly turned to lead the way out of
the
dining hall and into the garden. They were practically running by the
time
they got there.

They were both breathless and gasping as they threw themselves onto a
bench. The emotions of the evening were overwhelming, and as Barsel
looked
at Faylen he began to chuckle, and soon they were both laughing, though
he
really couldn't say why. He put his arm around her and held her
tightly as
they shook with laughter and tried to catch their breath, and before he

even knew what he was doing, he kissed her.
<<END SNIP>>

Faylen's eyes grew wide in surprise as she pushed Barsel away and held
him
at arm's length.

"Barsel! What are you?"

She was suddenly flooded with emotion, but it was not hers nor one she
shared with her friend. How could she not have seen it, felt it, before
now?

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I truly didn't realize. You're a great friend."

"But you don't feel the same way," Barsel finished rejectedly.

Faylen shook her head sadly. "I just don't think of you that way, I
think
of you as a friend. But I have to be honest with you, my heart belongs
to..."

Her heart sank as her eyes fell on J'red and Ari walking through the
garden. Instantly her heartbreak turned to sheer terror as she saw the
man
step out of the shadows and accost the couple.

"J'RED!" she shrieked leaping up and rushing to the scene. She put her
hand
on her hip, reaching on reflex for her sword,. But she was not wearing
her
sword this night, she remembered as she cursed that fact under her
breath

<<TAG Arlene and Carys!>>

[Day 17 - On Tour]

Once Gob had made himself comfortable, Aeryth had very quickly gone to
wash the sticky remnants of the egg out of her hair. She took just
long enough to make certain that all of the mess was out so that she
wouldn't encounter any of it dried in place later. She really didn't
want to keep the young man waiting too long. It would have been rude,
and she was very concerned with making a good impression on the people
she met here. It seemed like a nice place for a fresh start.

Oriana, for her part, was curled up on the ledge outside and watching
Nightwind showing off. She was suitably impressed as the large black
dragon demonstrated some fancy flying techniques. While they talked,
she did manage to spare a though for the fact that the Warrenlady had
chosen the best person for the job of guiding her Rider around. There
was nothing about Nightwind's Rider that was remotely threatening.

<quick snip>
The soft foot falls behind him caught his attention. With hair slightly
wet Aeryth seemed ready for her tour. Getting up and brushing him self
off, "Well for starters I'll show you around by foot I think Nightwind
wants to give Oriana the tour by dragon air if that's ok."

There was a deep resonate squeal from outside as though Nightwind was
in agreement. But all the loose things in the apartment shook and
raddled. Gob waited as he watched Aeryth commune with her dragon before
she nodded agreement.
<end snip>

Aeryth looked out to where she could see the back of her dragon.
Oriana probably would have a better time hanging around with Nightwind.
<~Oriana, Gob is going to show me around on foot so that you can get
the airborne tour with your new friend.~>

<~Oh. Okay. Have fun.~>

Aeryth followed Gob out and down the stairs, marveling to herself how
he could talk so fast without seeming to pause for breath. She would
have been about ready to pass out for lack of air if she even attempted
to do so. Still, he probably spoke that way all the time and was
therefore used to it.

When he showed her the hot pools, she was pleasantly surprised,
although she made a mental note to be certain she used them at times
when it would be unlikely to encounter anyone else. At least, until
she was better acquainted with the other riders here. There was just
something about the thought of having complete strangers see her naked
that bothered her.

The soaps he'd shown her were very nice, smelling of herbs and flowers
and such. Gob then proceeded to tell her all about his jobs here at
the Warren and how Pav'lo called him all sorts of things. She had the
impression that the older man probably liked Gob and it was just his
way of showing affection. When they left the room and he started
talking about her being "small enough," Aeryth was confused.

"I can keep a secret, I promise. But I still don't understand what
being small has to do with it," Aeryth confessed.

"You'll see," Gob said. "Come on." And he began leading her off in a
different direction.

<tag: Gob>
******************************************
Summary: Aeryth gets cleaned up and goes of with Gob on a tour. He
tells her she's small enough, which confuses her, and asks if she can
keep a secret.

((it's ok about the length, i can be patient. can't wait to see what
you've got planned))
