Subject: USS-CAPRICORN: End Game
"We are betrayed Marquis!" J'sse spoke to his master.
"What do you mean?" Marquis asked in as unnerved a tone anyone had
heard
out of him since they'd met him the few short days before.
"Sybil," J'see breathed. "She has rallied...I know not what they
are...or
were. They seemed to be of us, but did not our looks."
"She didn't!" Marquis said in a hushed voice, walking slowly towards
J'sse.
"Marquis!" Avi said, seeing him move towards Miaren and this new man.
The
security forces that had recently made their presence known all pointed
their rifles at the natives, and by extension, their doctor too.
"Captain, I please ask that you lower your weapons. You can trust, if
nothing else, that I would never allow anything to happen to your
doctor.
She has already been a guest at my palace." He said, never taking his
eyes
off of J'sse and the doctor. "What happened, J'sse?"
"We are betrayed." J'sse repeated.
"Sybil." Marquis exhaled. "Captain, I had want to speak to you about
this
privately, and at a more relaxed time -- maybe when we were all off the
planet -- but it appears neither will come." He said, turning his back
to
his people for the first time. He approached Avi, hunching his
shoulders a
bit. "For centuries, we had enemies and we had always fought them off.
One
time, a few years ago, we started noticing mutated members of our
society
started to appear, and while they were no less my people, they thought
themselves to be. And they would lash out at us...."
"Yeah, Captain, they attacked us too the first time here!" One
security
force member started, before being QUICKLY silenced by the first
officer's
glare.
"When did this start to happen?" Avi asked, ignoring his own staff
member.
He didn't have a counselor or trained enough tactical officer to be
able to
diagnose Marquis's tone/meaning. While Montana was very good, she had
also
come under their spell earlier in the trip, so she was not as useful as
she'd otherwise be.
Istria, while still in Marquis' trance, spoke up. "After I left..."
"Sadly, that is true. I admit, my mood does play a large part in the
weather patterns here, yet, this was different. Captain, we have not
procreated in centuries. This was not a case of an affect on our
young.
This was done TO us."
"By whom?" Montana, this time, asked, almost in an out-of-turn way.
"I don't know." Marquis said stopping the conversation.
All the while of this conversation, some of his people had been pacing
nervously, while J'sse had been attempting to tend to Miaren as best he
could. As his people also felt no pain nor were capable of injury, he
was
not much help. "I.....do....." she croaked. Clearly, J'sse had
missed her
revival to consciousness.
Avi quickly moved over to her, and the seas of people parted for him
and
Marquis. "Doctor, are you alright?"
"I be fine, Cap'ain." She weakly smiled. "SFIA...tha's who did 'ere."
"SFIA?" Ury said behind them.
"Aye."
"Okay, rest, Doctor." Avi said, standing up, patting her on the
shoulder as
he did. He pointed at two security members to stand beside her by way
of
protection. Not that he thought it would help much. "Now, why would
the
mutated members of your society attack you? Or for that matter, why
did
SFIA put something that would poison this planet? How did SFIA even
know
anything about this planet?"
"I do not know, but I do know now that we know it was Starfleet, you
MUST
help us." Marquis said with as much supplication as he could summon,
while
still seeming as cool and disconnected as possible. He was very good
at it,
Avi would later reflect. Years of practice.
"I agree, and we will do our best. First thing we need to know is how
far
away are they?" Avi asked the people around him. "Lt. Rogan, your
team is
to stand in eye sight of both each other and US while forming a
perimeter
around us. Standard patrol perimeter. I WILL NOT lose another
crewmember.
Marquis, please move your people within our security ring. I'd prefer
not
to lose anyone on your side either. Commander Phillips, please lead us
back
to the shuttlecraft. Commander A'kora, where are we with that?"
The chief engineer had been the last to arrive, and when she'd gotten
there
she was still looking around as if she'd seen a ghost. "I'd give the
shuttle a 50% chance of lifting off, but something larger than a pebble
would bring her back down just as fast."
"Then we're going to have to detonate her. I can't have that shuttle
staying here one minute longer than required."
"Captain, if I can suggest another option, once we know where our
attackers
are?" A'kora offered, as Avi filled Marquis and the others in on his
plan.
****
They moved as quickly as scores of people could through a dense forest.
Luckily, they'd been fewer than 5 kilometers away from the crash site
to
begin with, but it was still nerve racking for those people who'd never
been
hunted before. Sadly, some of them knew the feeling all too well.
Those
who were listening, could hear the trees being trampled and the bushes
being
stomped in the distance. Terrifying sounds indeed. Luckily, however,
this
group had another advantage. A secret guardian. 'That damn cat-hater
better appreciate all I do for him.'
They entered the crash site, and Avi signaled A'kora to make the
necessary
preparations. "Reckage to USS Capricorn."
<Bridge here, Captain.>
"Lt., I need all trans****ters up and running. I need an emergency
trans****t, follow our location. We'll be moving momentarily, and there
will
be a distraction at this location."
<Understood. We'll maintain a trans****ter lock on you and the
Capricorn
crew.>
"Good Lt., but I'll also need a lock on the other people here too."
<Sir?>
"You heard me. Get them out too."
<Yes, sir.>
"Reckage out." Avi turned around to A'kora. "Make it so. I don't
want
even one isolinear chip from that damned thing to be found again!"
"Aye, sir."
"Good. Now, Marquis," Avi said, turning his head to the bigger
problem.
"What will these mutants do if frightened?"
"I have no way of knowing. They are of us, but are not us. They do
not
rationalize like us. J'hon, you have had contact with them?" Marquis
asked
aloud, not realizing his "third" was not with them. "J'hon?"
"I fear, he is no longer with us either!" J'sse said, carrying the
doctor,
still in his arms. The security officers had argued that they should
carry
her, but both logic and necessity won the day when J'sse reminded them
that
he neither got tired nor needed to protect the group.
"J'hon is a betrayer too?"
"Yes, I am, Marquis!" Looking up, everyone could see him standing atop
the
overhang about 200 meters away.
"Quick, Security, do your thing!" Ury screamed before firing, missing
J'hon, of course. Avi would rue the decision not to keep the security
forces in check. Ury, however, in his re****t, would file that he
thought a
show of force might have dissuaded their attackers from being so
cavalier
about their actions. Of course, not in so many words.
"A'kora, is it ready?"
"Aye, Captain."
"Good, when we're more than 150 meters away, I want it detonated."
"Aye, Captain," and off they started running after the rest of the
group.
Luckily, Montana had coordinated the direction of the group, away from
this
'J'hon,' too. Hopefully that was the right direction to be going.
Running through the dense forest, Avi was looking around, trying to
make
sure they weren't running into a trap. While there weren't hundreds of
beings, there were enough that it would require two trans****ter
sessions to
get everyone off the planet. By the time they arrived, A'kora and Avi
saw
that the trans****t had already started. 'Good work, Montana!' Avi
thought.
And, she kept enough of Marquis' people around so the mutants would see
they
were still there and want to attack.
"A'kora, hold off on the detonation, please."
"Sir?"
"Trust me."
"Aye."
"MARQUIS!" a woman's voice called out. A woman Avi could have only
assumed
was Sybil stepped out of the brush after all but Marquis, J'sse and the
Starfleet officers were remaining. "You made a mistake, Marquis."
"Did I, Sybil?"
"You did. You invited this wench into our midst. We were all you
needed.
*I* was all you would ever have needed!"
"Sybil, listen to yourself. Do you hear it? You have turned away from
yourself. Stop now, and I will ask them to spare you." Marquis
pleaded
with her.
"You loved me, Marquis!"
"I still do. I love all of my children."
"THAT'S ALL I WAS!?! One of your CHILDREN?!?!"
"And what of you, J'hon?"
"What of me, Marquis? You lost yourself when you met her!" He pointed
to
Istria. "It has never been the same! With them, I am a leader. I am
a
follower under you."
"You have both made terrible mistakes." Marquis resolutely said.
"Have we? We both know that the star****p can't trans****t people off
when in
such close proximity of the castle. And we are blocking you from the
shuttle, not that it could take off." It was at that moment that the
same
****p, itself came into view, rising from the planet's surface itself.
Behind J'hon and Sybil, the natives were getting restless. They saw
what
J'hon and Sybil had just said was impossible. "A fine trick you and
your
defenders of virtue and justice have created, Captain. No one here is
fooled, however!" Sybil shouted out to Avi. "You will not be
leaving."
"Sybil, you do not know what you're doing." J'sse said.
"You're one to speak! You are the right hand of the deposed leader!
You
have fallen down the same path he did, with she in your hands."
"You have no idea what you're talking about. J'hon, Sybil, brothers,
sisters! Think clearly. No one here is your enemy. We are all still
able
to back down from this. No one has been hurt."
"You're a fool, J'sse, and you always have been."
"Not quite the fool you are. Do you not realize the power of the ****ps
both
behind you and above you."
"Oh no, my 'friend'. They will pay dearly to get back their crew.
They
will take me wherever I wish to go." Sybil said.
"Listen to you, Sybil. Where YOU wish to go? What about what's best
for
your people? What about what's best for the people you lead?"
"That was your biggest mistake, Marquis. You didn't realize what you
had at
your fingertips. We're invulnerable. We're immortal! We're
INVINCIBLE! I
could walk right up to this captain right now, rip his head off his
body and
there isn't a thing his crew could do about it."
"Yes, that's probably true, Sybil, but what then? You still wouldn't
be off
this planet. I cannot believe she's twisted you, J'hon."
"I will find a way to get up to that ****p you've levitated, and then
get off
this god forsaken place!"
"You're crazy!" Ury uttered.
"SHUT UP! She said, flaring her eyes at him. This was the closest her
face
came to registering any emotion. Her voice evoked all the passion she
felt.
"I have lived more lives than you and your entire crew combined. All
of
which in service to him! I have learned all I could under his feet,
and now
I have my own flock to command! He will pay for keeping me down as
long as
he did."
"So that's what this is all about? You're upset because of jealousy."
"You made J'sse and J'hon your right and left hands, and left me to
fetch
tea and crumpets!" Sybil said, slowly inching forward. "Now, I am the
one
with all the power. I have an entire army just waiting, itching to
attack
anything in its way."
"Then, Sybil, for your sake, I truly hope you do not get in their way."
Marquis said with as much feeling as he could muster. "Because, like
you, I
have seen much. Enough for 10 lifetimes. This will not end well for
you."
"You know nothing! That was a different time, Old man! It is now our
turn!" All while she'd been making her little speech, A'kora had been
tapping at her PADD, setting what would be an excellent sequence. And
now
that Sybil was truly finished, topping off her commentary into madness
was
the final coup d'grace, a colossal explosion of the shuttlecraft. "YOU
FOOLS!"
"No, Sybil. You are the fool. Capricorn, beam us up!" Avi said,
quickly,
and thus began the dissolution of the senior staff, security officers,
the
remainder of Marquis's people, and one person unknown to all but their
guest.
"I'm sorry, my children." Marquis said as he disappeared.
****
On board the Capricorn...
Avi stepped off the trans****ter platform. "Bridge, can you confirm
destruction of the shuttle?"
<Aye, Sir. The shuttle craft has been completely destroyed.>
"Good, please send a message to Starfleet that I wish to speak with
Admiral
Jackson as soon as humanly possible. He and I will have quite a bit to
talk
about. Now, please take us to the nearest starbase. Engage when
ready."
<Aye sir. Starbase 227. We'll be there in 14 hours at Warp 5.>
"Good, please let them know we have guests. Security will probably
want to
know."
<Aye, sir.>
"Reckage out." Avi said, standing next to Marquis as they walked out
of
the trans****ter room, followed by the trans****ter chief. "I am sorry,
Marquis."
"As am I, Captain For so many things." Marquis said, shoulders
hunched.
"Chief, would you please show Marquis to the guest level with the rest
of
his people."
"Aye, sir."
"Marquis, if you need anything, please let me know."
****
Meanwhile on the planet...
"You said, they couldn't trans****t off!" One of her followers said.
"They couldn't before! I swear it!"
"But you said..."
"Its not my fault." Sybil swore to all of them.
"Now we have no chance. We have no shuttle and no big ****p."
"Its not my fault....." she said as the rest of her 'followers'
encircled
and closed in around her. "No, please! I am your leader!" They
didn't
care for another one who lied to them either.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....."
****
MD 5:0900
"Alright, I've spoken with the Admiral. We're clear to return to
Starbase
for a little while. In fact, he said our next mission will probably be
a
light job of trans****ting an ambassador or two. Now, where are we on
other
things?" Avi said, sitting down with a glass of tea at the head of the
conference table.

NRPG -- Alright kids, add whatever you want to the above. There are
plenty
of holes (that you could drive a hummer through) for people to add in
their
own parts. And, maybe I didn't even contradict anything else that had
been
written before. ;)
Soon, we'll have a new crew member, written by Scott Huckaby. Yup,
he's
back, and I'll let him further introduce his character. Hope
everyone's
having a good day!

NRPG: small addition to my last post "Small Enough for What". I
realized that I hadn't exactly moved things along very well.
RPG:
[Day 17- On Tour]
As Gob led Aeryth down the passageway, she wondered where in the world
they were going. There really didn't seem to be much of anything back
this way. She was beginning to lose track of where they were going,
the passage twisted and turned so much. She tugged on Gob's hand,
slowing down and laughing. "Easy now. Slow down. What's so im****tant
back here that you wanted to show me?"
Gob stopped and looked at her, eyes dancing. "There are tunnels behind
the walls here. I wanted to show you some of them, but I had to make
sure you'd fit first."
Understanding dawned on Aeryth's face. "Ah. I see. Well, lead on."
And with that, they continued on their way.
<tags: Eddie - if this isn't where you were going with the post, then
by all means correct me...but Arlene said she thought this is probably
what you meant :) >

Summary: Gob explains where he's taking Aeryth...and why he commented
