[DL-C]: A Demanding Dragon and Daunting Tasks
Day 3
Morning.
Kat's apartment.
Katrina had made a rough sketch of all the places where the
Nadusi had either been spotted or had attacked Nomads. She thought
if she could find a pattern to the beastie's appearances, she
could use that data to predict where it might attack next. Or,
perhaps she could use the information to triangulate where
the creature's lair was.
<Now that you have an office, why do you not do your 'work'
there>, came Azure's mind voice.
<Because I can work better here Luv. Here I wont get as many
interruptions.>
<Speaking of offices and interruptions. You have not forgotten
you are to meet with your Alpha counterpart and Wharton's rider
to discuss the Nadusi? Or did you forget?>
With a slight smile Kat replied, <No I didn't forget. I just wanted
to jot down the information about the Nadusi we had gathered over the
last few days before they slipped my mind. I'm almost done. Then I'll
go see Rowan. But thank you for the reminder dear heart>.
<You are Welcome. Oh, after you discuss this Nadusi stuff with the
Alpha Wingleader and Wharton's rider, could you give me an oiling.
Triss and Syren each had one yesterday. And I think I am due for one
as well>, added the iridescent blue dragon with emphasis.
Kat rolled her eyes at the commanding tone her dragon's mind voice.
A tone which made Kat think, perhaps it would be easier to confront
the Nadusi than to go against her dragon's wishes or whims.

Later. Rowan's office
[NRPG: Insert 'Girl's Rule']
Towards the end of the talks with Rowan and Eth'n about the Nadusi,
Azure popped into Katrina's head. It was an interruption which gave a
whole new meaning to the phrase 'out of the blue'. <Do you think
Warton's
rider is handsome?>
<What?>
<I said...> began the iridescent blue dragon.
<Ya I got it>, replied Kat before Azure could repeat her question.
After seeing all the new female riders drooling over Eth'n during
their training, Kat had decided she didn't want to go there. Besides,
eventhough she hadn't seen much of him lately, Kat still harbored
feelings for P'ker.
With Azure's question, and these thoughts about Eth'n and P'ker in
mind,
Kat asked, <Why do you want to know? With a monstrous wurm ravishing
the
land and Nomads dying, I hope you aren't planning a mating flight>.
<Planning? My rider, I don't plan mating flights. I am not like you
humans who can mate whenever they want to. I only asked about Wharton's
rider because lately you've been so busy with your new Beta Wingleader
job, that you have not been social. When is the last time you
socialized
with other male riders, or spoke with your sibling, hmmm?>
<Okay, I have been busy. However, in answer to your questions, I
don't
have an interest in Eth'n... err, Wharton's rider. And as for my
sibling,
I can grab a bite to eat with him this afternoon.>
Azure replied back, <That is good. Then after you grab a bite with
your
sibling, you can give me that oilng>.
After a brief pause, during which time Kat thought her dragon was
going
to rephrase her prior statement, and remind Kat once again she need
that
oiling, Azure returned with, <I just heard we have a new arrival. He is
a
rider from Telnor. His dragon made a rather impressive landing. By the
egg,
he sure has quite a bit of stuff loaded on his dragon.>
Kat closed her connection with Azure and found out Rowan and Eth'n
had received news about the new arrival of as well. So the three riders
finished their discussion and left to meet Jacin and Djin.

Early afternoon
Dining hall
Katrina was waiting in the dining hall for her brother Seth. As she
waited she looked into her glass of cold water and thought about the
latest news about the Nadusi. Andahar and Cholmon's discovery that the
giant wurm didn't like cold finally gave the warren a means to defeat
the beast. Or if not defeat, maybe drive it away. How the warren would
pull this off was another story.
When Andahar and Cholmon encountered the Nadusi, it had been
advantageous
that Cholmon's Param breathed ice. And eventhough Katrina had heard of
ice
breathing dragons in other warrens, aside from Cholmon/Param, Kat
didn't
personally know any other dragonriding pair with this ability. Today,
when Kat met the new rider Jacin, she thought perhaps he could help the
warren come up with another way to use cold on the Nadusi. From what
little information Kat knew of Jacin, as well as from what she saw in
the belongings strapped to his dragon, Jacin appeared to be an
inventor. Which made Kat
wonder if perhaps he could come up with some device to deliver bursts
of
cold to the wurm like a dragon's breath.
Katrina looked up from her musing about ice breathing dragons, Nadusi
and
Jacin to see Seth headed her way. Kat stood up as her brother
approached
and said, "Howdy bro It's good to see you. I'm glad you were able to
make
it for a bite to eat."
"Hi Sis. It's good to see you as well. However, I'm sorry, but I
can't stay.
Alizarine and I need to be off right away."
"Oh darn," said Kat with disappointment. "If you don't mind me
asking,
where are you going?"
"No I don't mind you asking." Then, with a rather heroic edge in
his voice, Seth added, "I have been asked to once again take up the
cloak of a courier
and deliver a message to the other warrens about the Nadusi. The
message is
to rally the ice breathing dragons in other warrens to come to Cleft."
Katrina wasn't surprised when Seth told her about his task. Seth's
past experience as a courier made him a good choice to, as Seth said,
'rally'
the ice dragons. However, this rallying of ice breathing dragons
meant a confrontation with the Nadusi would follow eventually. And
that thought
brought to the forefront of Kat's mind the past battle with the
Hellspawn.
In that battle, Kat's brother's participation had been noncombative.
Now however, Seth was a member of a Wing-Kat's Wing. And eventhough
the brunt
of an engagement would fall to any riders with ice breathing dragons,
Kat's young sibling would be there along with Kat and Beta Wing to
help in whatever way they could.
<If he were a Nomad, he would gain great honor in such a battle>,
came Azure's mind voice.
<Honor. Yes that is true about the Nomads, but Seth is not a Nomad.
And knowing how honor, from what I've heard floating around the warren,
has gotten Andahar in quite a few messes, I'm glad Seth isn't a Nomad.>
Seth's voice brought Kat out of her exchange with Azure. "I really
need
to be off sis. I'll see you when I get back." Seth then grab a
sandwich
from Kat's plate and said with a smile, "Thanks for lunch!"
"Sure, anytime little bro," said Kat with a smile. "Wind to your
wings.
I'll see you when you return."
After Seth left, Kat returned to what remained of her meal. As she
was
about to take a bite of her pudding dessert, she heard Azure.
<Speaking of wings, and I do not mean Alpha or Beta Wing, I mean my
wings.
Remember, you are going to oil them and the rest of me this afternoon.>
Kat shook her head. What was this the second or third time her dragon
had
reminded her about an oiling. Kat wondered if Azure had suddenly became
either very vain or very demanding.
<For your information, it's only the third time>, came Azure's mind
voice.
Kat smiled, <Don't worry, I haven't forgot dearest>. Kat then looked
at
her pudding, smiled, and added, <Errant brothers, rampaging Nadusi, and
all
the pudding in the warren couldn't keep me from the task of pampering
and
oiling you Luv. That being the case, I guess not only was my morning
busy,
but my afternoon will be as well>, finished Kat as she took a last bite
of
her pudding before she left the dining hall to take on the daunting,
but enjoyable task, of pampering her dragon.

Summery day 3.
Morning: While going over information about the Nadusi, Azure reminds
Kat
about her meeting with Rowan and Eth'n, and about getting an oiling.
Later during her meeting, Kat is grilled and chided by Azure about
her social life. The arrival of Jacin and Djin brings the meeting to
a close.
Afternoon: Kat meets with her brother to eat, only to find out he has
an errand to other warrens to deliver messages to 'rally' anyone with
ice dragons. Kat also ponders a future engagement with the Nadusi and
worries
about her young brother being in such an encounter. Lastly, upon
finishing
her meal, Kat is reminded again about Azure wanting to get her oiling.
