Subject: [DL-C] Just Lenna Being Lenna

Night time
Day 3

Evening after Reain's meeting with *the other woman*

<Sylois my love... You had better tell Blanchie that I need to talk to
her rider,>
The young nomad woman told her dragon after they had arrived home from
the dragon
bathing pool,, and her talk with the rider Alania.

She had put Kenziah to bed and Jasi, who usually stayed up a bit later
to talk
about her day with her madeh, had gone off to bed early saying she was
tired
from doing so much that day.

Being by herself, gave Reain to much time to thing about the events of
her own
day. Both having to deal with Andahar finally admitting to the truth of
their
daughters parentage, and the talk with Alania. A talk that maybe she
should
not have let happen. For surely Andahar would be very displeased with
her for
saying the things she had to his new woman.

No matter. She only spoke the truth. And it was not like Reain had gone
looking
for the woman. No she had come to find Reain. If she did not want to
hear what
Reain had to say, then she should not have come looking for her. Reain
would
be sure to tell Andahar that too when he came to yell at her.

Sylois told her then that Blanchie and her rider had arrived so Reain
went to
get the drink that the female dragonrider seemed to like and something
to eat.
Then after welcoming her into her home, Reain told Lenna what had
happened down
by the Dragon bathing pool...

Evening day 3
Lenna's apartment

Rand was asleep in his own bed. Lenna was wide awake on the couch in
the living
room of the house she once shared with Rand's father. Though nothing of
B`rand's
was left in the room, she could swear she could still feel his presence
around
her. For his she knew she'd been gone over two years, but for her it
still felt
like yesterday. She still couldn't remember the time she had been away
not the
life she had led then. That damn wraith that had taken over her body
had lived
that time. She had only vague memories of that time. Maybe it was
better that
way. But it didn't help at all when she finally admitted to herself
that she
was still in love with the only man who she could never walk all over.
Rand's
father... B'rand.

It also didn't help that B'rand.. like Andahar had denied his own
child. She
just could not understand how the man could refuse to even see the
boy.. even
if he didn't want to see her. Any one of her brothers would have been
happy
to have taken the boy to Telnor for a visit with his father. That way
B'rand
wouldn't have to see her if he didn't want to. But not even that offer
had accepted.

Thinking about her brother's made Lenna remember the letter that had
arrived
today with the new rider from Telnor. She had forgotten all about it
when Sylois
had called Blanchie when Reain came home in a panic after her talk with
Alania.
But now she got up and walked across the room to where she had left her
riding
jacket and pulled the envelop out of the inner pocket where she had
placed it.

She smiled as she read the first few words... But the smile did not
last long
as she kept on reading...

Dear Lenna..

Everyone here is doing fine. We've all been very busy cleaning the
place up
and getting it back into some sort of order. Lonnie misses having you
around
but he claims he's getting used to the peace and quiet. I think the
time apart
for you two is the best thing for now. Even though he misses you, he's
still
a bit upset about that last prank you pulled on him, but his hair has
started
to grow out now and the girl's all seem to think he's still a handsome
man.
To bad he can't find someone nice and settle down like your brother
Dan'yar
did. Pua and the baby are both doing fine. She's such a wonderful
mother to
their new son and Dan'yar is over the moon and can't stop telling
everyone how
wonderful his son is. He's so sure the boy will grow up to be a
Wingleader like
himself.

The twin's are coming along wonderfully with their training. Dan'yar
says they
are both natural dragonrider's and could make Wingleader themselves one
day.
We did receive a message from Farr'in and Meena in the family code, so
we knew
it was from them. They are all doing as well as can be expected but
will stay
hidden until Demee and the baby are no longer in danger from her
family. I wish
he would have told us where they are, but he seems to think it's safer
that
no one knows. That way they won't be traced. I wish it would all just
end so
I can have my family back.

One last thing. I know you won't really want to hear this, but I
thought it
would be better coming from me then if you heard it from someone else.
It'll
come as a shock no matter how you learn but I you should know. B'rand
and his
new mate have had a baby. A little boy they have called Corry. The boy
is growing
like a weed and looks more like his father with all that red hair..
Just like
Rand's. B'rand dotes on the boy.. I'm sorry daughter. I wish he would
just once
go to Cleft and take a good look at his first born son. I've tried to
get him
to do so but the man is just plain stubborn. Maybe you could bring Rand
here
to Telnor. I'm sure if he saw him, he would fall in love with him just
as we
all have done. Think about it.

......

Think about it. Like hell she would!!

Lenna wadded up the two sheets of paper in her hand and wished it was a
certain
person's head instead. Damn the man. Damn him to hell and back. You low
down
scumbliversonofbeach!! She swore with a few more exploited comments
after that.
She was so angry that she wanted something to throw. The need to break
something
almost overwhelmed her, but in the end she just sat down and cried.

"As much as I want to damn it I can't blame you B'rand. In as much as I
would
love to say this is all your fault... I can't," she said softly after
the flash
of rage had torn through her. Most of her anger she knew was caused by
the events
of the day. Her anger at Andahar for the way he had treated Reain,
topped by
her mothers letter about her ex-mate and his new child, just seem to be
the
perfect topping on a bitchen day.

While it angered her more then anything in the world that B'rand
refused to
even take a look at the son she had born, she could well understand why
B'rand
might think the way he did. After all she had been gone a long time
after she
had disappeared after the Battle at Geode. Two whole years she'd been
gone.
He had no way of knowing she if she would ever be back or not. And then
there
was the fact that she had lost their first baby just days before the
battle.
How was he to know that thanks to the nomad healer who had healed her
broken
body, that they had conceived the night before she disappeared?
Something about
the healing cure had caused her body to feel a bit ... amorous... and
she had
had her way with him before he could wake from the exhausted sleep he'd
fallen
into. Still if he would only look at the boy he would know the truth.
How could
she fault him for finding someone else.

She moved her head and looked down the hall to where her son laid in
peaceful
sleep. He was such a joy to her. He held her heart in the palm of his
hand and
she would do anything to protect him. B'rand didn't know what he was
missing
out on.

A tear fell from her eye. Then another and another as her breath caught
in her
throat and she just couldn't hold back the river any longer. She had
tried to
be brave. Tried hard not to let her son or anyone else know how much it
hurt
to have lost the love of her life. She knew she couldn't have expected
him to
wait on her, but still, knowing he was happy with someone else and now
they
had a baby didn't settle very well within her heart. Still... one day
B'rand
would come around and want to meet his son. She only hoped by then it
wasn't
to late to form some kind of bond with the boy who was so like his
father in
temperament.

>>My rider... << The lavender dragon's metal tone was full of concern. She
didn't
like it when her rider got sad this way. It usually had to do with
Rook's rider..
and thinking about Rook made Blanchie sad. She missed him. Sleeping on
their
ledge at night wasn't then same with out Rook's warm body to cuddle up
against.
One day maybe her rider would find someone new to cuddle with... and
one day
maybe there might be another dragon for herself to cuddle.. but she
would still
miss Rook.

>>My rider..<< She repeated, when she didn't get an answered the first
time.

<I'm okay my love,> Lenna assured her life mate. <Getting the letter
from my
mother today of all days after what happened with Reain and that jerk
who fathered
her sweet little girl... didn't help any... I'll be fine now that I've
had a
good cry.>

But the tears refused to stop falling and Blanchie became very
concerned for
her rider, so she sent a quick call to Varie asking her to tell her
rider her
mate, Turner, who was her own rider's only sibling still here in the
Cleft..
to come quick. Lenna needed him.

>>My rider won't quit crying and I'm very worried about her...<< Blanchie
told
Varie. >>Maybe your rider's mate can come try to get her to stop.<<

A few seconds late Varie asked a question of her own. >>My rider wants
to know
why she is crying. Did something happen to her?<<

The lavender dragon had to think about how to answer that. >>She read
something
on paper and it made her sad.. I think it might have been words about
Rook's
rider in Telnor. She thinks about him a lot. Lately more then before.<<

>>My rider says they will come.<< the older dragon told her and then
Blanchie
could do nothing but wait.

It was but a few minutes before they arrived. Turner stopped just long
enough
to help Kelly and their son down from their perch on Varie's back
before entering
Lenna's apartment.

"Lenna... Sis what's wrong?" Turner's voice was soft and gentle as he
moved
to sit on the sofa next to his sister. He reached for her with strong
arms and
pulled her around so that she laid there with her head on his shoulder.

It was Kelly who saw the rumpled up pieces of paper on the ground and
picked
them up for a quick read.

"It's from Danki.. " she told her mate. "B'rand and his new mate had a
baby
boy..."

Kellie sighed. "Turner, could you go find us a drink?" she asked her
mate,
knowing he'd realize that he was being effectively sent into the next
room to
wait. She walked over to Lenna. "I'm sorry," she told Lenna. "I know
what
B'rand meant to you. But I thought...that you'd parted ways. Even
before he...and
you...left. I guess I was wrong?"

"I thought..." Lenna choked out. "... things were find before I
disappeared
during the battle... but that was years ago for B'rand.. for me it
seemed like
only days... When I came back.... I didn't know how long I'd been
gone... maybe
that's why I just can't seem to get over that damn man even if my mind
tells
me I should."

"You never do, truly," Kellie told her. "I never got over Trevor's
father,
you know...and he never got over his first mate, even after he and I
got together."
She stopped herself quickly, hoping Lenna wouldn't make the connection
about
who's mother K'rald's first mate had been. "But you do have part of
B'rand,
right here." She inclined her head toward the other room where Lenna's
son
was.

Lenna managed a weak smile, but her tear rimed eyes glowed with the
love reserved
only for her son. "He's the best part of both of us. I just wish B'rand
would
see him. It hurts like hell that he won't even acknowledge his own son.
I can't
understand why he won't. Just once. I know he'd fall in love with him
if he'd
only give himself the chance."

"Have you gone there?" Kellie asked. "Talked to B'rand? Has he even
met his
son?"

Lenna gave a bitter snort. "I tried once, but as soon as Rook found out
Blanchie
was there, B'rand and he took off for parts unknown and didn't come
back until
after I left. Mother has tried talking to him but she can't get
anywhere with
him."

Lenna leaned forward and picked up the drink her brother had set down
on the
end table as he came back into the room. "Thank you," she said, taking
a sip
which seem to ease her body some. "I'm more angry for Rand's sake then
my own.
What am I going to tell him when he starts to ask about his father and
why he
doesn't have one when his friends all do? How am I going to tell him
his father
didn't want him and moved away to live with a new mate and had another
son he
loved."

"Then you have done all you can," said Kellie. "At least as far as
B'rand is
concerned. But who knows...if B'rand is fickle enough to do what he's
doing
now, perhaps he'll eventually tire of his new mate in Telnor and will
return
to you. Is that what you really want at this point?"

The blonde was quiet for a moment or two, thinking about how she would
answer
Kelly. "A few months back I might have said yes.. But I can't ask..
won't ask
B'rand to leave the mother of his child... I can't even say if I want
him back..
What I do want is for Rand to be able to get to know his father."

She looked from Kelly to Turner. "You have been wonderful with him big
brother.
Rand loves you and I know you love him. I just wish his own father
could love
him just as much."

The child is easy to love," Turner told her. "And he's good practice
for what
I'm going to do when My'kel is older. B'rand is a fool."

"If he came back now, and asked your forgiveness, would you take him?"
Kellie
pressed. "And if you did take him, would it be like it was before
between the
two of you?" She suspected not, but wondered if Lenna had considered
this.

Lenna though about the question. It was something she hadn't really
given much
thought to. But now she did. "No. I don't think it would be the same as
it was.
We've both changed to much. If B'rand did come back.. I .. he.. would
have to
prove to me that we could trust him. Even then I don't know if I would
take
him back. Allow him to be a father to Rand yes. But as a mate for
myself...
I don't know. I still love the man.. but I don't think that's enough
any longer."

"Then," said Kellie slowly, 'it seems to me that he's the one who would
need
to prove that he's worthy of you, should he decide to return. Don't
worry about
trying to prove you're worthy of him - you already know you are. For
now...for
today...concentrate on the part of B'rand that you still have here with
you.
If the rest of him ever decides to return...then the burden is on him,
not
on you. And if he never does, then maybe in 20 or so years Rand will
run into
him in a tavern somewhere and give him a good belt for not coming back
to visit."

That made her laugh. The image of Rand decking his father was funny.
"I'll have to make sure he keeps his swing arm in good shape until
then," she
said and her voice even sounded more at ease. "I'm sorry Blanchie
called you
to come up here.. but I'm not sorry you came. I'm feeling a lot better
now.
Even if I am still madder then hell at B'rand."

"Just make certain that it's B'rand you're mad at and not yourself,"
said Kellie,
looking to Turner for confirmation. The big smith provided it in the
form of
an emphatic nod. "And maybe...someday...you'll either find it in your
heart
to forgive him....or to forget."

They left soon after that, after making sure Lenna wouldn't break down
again.
What Kelly had said made a lot of sense to her. She just wouldn't think
about
it any longer. When the time came and Rand started to ask questions..
she'd
think about how to answer him then. Until then she needed to pull her
life together
and deal with the here and now. Besides.. there were plenty of men out
there
who might be fun to have around. Maybe it was time to open up her heart
again
and find someone new. If that didn't happen then so what.. she still
had her
son to love and Blanchie was always with her, loving her no matter
what. With
a dragon.. You were never alone.

Day 4 early morning

[Snip;]

But know this Andahar, Big Chief who-seeks-a-new-dash-of-Honor...
If you EVER hurt Reain again... I'll make your life a living hell...
And if
you doubt I can.. Ask Trevor what I'm capable of."

"Yes, you make life for any man hell," Andahar's eyes narrowed, "As you
did to B'rand?! Is that why father of own child is now in other warren
and you are all alone?"

Lenna refused to allow the man to know how much his words hurt. She
wouldn't give him the satisfaction. "I'm not alone. I have my son. And
as for B'rand.. He never lied to me about how he felt about me. But
even I can
not expect a man to give up on life when he thought his mate had died.
He loved
me enough to wait two years before he found someone else. How long do
you think
Reain will wait?" With that said, Lenna tipped her hand towards Trevor.
"Give
Cynthia my love, and let me know what she decides to do." She said and
then
walked away. She'd had as much of the big Chief Windbag as she could
take for
a while.

Lenna had to walk away before she did or said something that would be
going
to far. She didn't consider the things she'd said just now to that big
jerk
in that category since everything she has said was the truth.

Poor Trevor though. Did she really tell him to Shut up!! She'd have to
apologize
to him later on when she saw him again. Non of this was his fault and
she really
should have kept her mouth shut knowing how upset the man was because
of his
dragons sickness.

Besides which.. she had something else she needed to do. Inform Kat
that Trevor
and Trissana were going to be out of action for the next few days and
get her
to assign a temporary patrol partner to fill in during that time.

<Blanchie my love,> she sent the thought to her dragon. <Would you find
out
where Azure is and tell her I need to speak to her rider?>

Lenna was heading towards the dining hall when Blanchie told her Kat
was in
her office, so she turned around and headed there.

"What up" Kat asked when Lenna entered her office.

"I wanted to let you know that I'm going to need a fill in partner for
a few
days.. maybe a week or two until Trissana gets over her cold," Lenna
let her
know as she sat down in the chair opposite the side of the desk Kat
sat.

"A cold?" the other woman looked surprised. "I didn't know dragon's got
colds."

"Not often," the blond rider told her. "It's rare, but it's been known
to happen.
Trevor is beside himself with worry and Andahar is acting in typical
jack ass
fashion about the whole thing.. told Trev not to treat Triss like a
spoiled
baby."

"Well you have to admit," Kat smiled, there was laughter in her eyes.
"He *Does*
tend to spoil her at times."

"Oh I agree," Lenna gave a short laugh. Trevor's spoiling of the Pearly
white
dragon was a joke around some riders. Only those who knew him well. Had
anyone
else said anything about it, words would be spoken so it wouldn't
happen again.
"But I'd be worried if Blanchie was coughing and sneezing her head off
and I
didn't know why. So I can't blame him for being nervous about it. Not
when they're
thinking about bring the babies and Cynthia home today."

"Oh how are the babies?" her friend asked. "Have you seen them yet?"

"Yes I saw them yesterday with Trevor," the smile had left her face as
she remembered
Andahar showing up and the words spoken between them. "The babies are
both cute...
but don't get me started there. Seems.. the Big jerk who broke Reain's
heart
by dumping her when he found out she was pregnant because he thought
she had
slept with someone else... now knows Reain didn't lie to him and
Kenziah *IS*
his daughter... and can you get this.. He's blaming Reain for all the
trouble
not taking any of the blame himself because the *Dragons* told him she
was pregnant..
not Reain. Had he waited a few minutes more and she would have but the
dragon's
gave it away before she was ready and he's saying she lied to him
because She
didn't tell him...So it's all Reain's fault!! I just can't believe what
an idiot
that jerk is!!"

Kat's eyes opened wide in shock. "The baby really is his!!" saw the
heated look
in her ex-partner's eyes and amended her question. "I mean everyone
else already
knew he was the father of Reain's baby.. but he's finally admitted to
it?"

"Yeah.. seems she has the same birth mark as the jerk and the daughter
he had
with Cynthia, so there was no way he could keep denying it."

"So what's Reain going to do?"

Lenna's face lit up in a very sweet smile. Pure Lenna at her worst. The
type
of smile that made people want to check around them to make sure all
breakables
were put away.

"Oh she's going to allow him to see his * daughter*. Personally I'd
have told
him to get lost.. But you would have been proud of her the way she told
him
off. She told me some of it, but Sylois told Blanchie the rest."

"She didn't!!" Kat found it hard to believe the young Nomad woman would
ever
say a cross word to the man she had loved and been dumped by.

Lenna nodded her head. "Oh yes.. she did. And told him while he could
see his
daughter, he was to have Bohoc call Sy first and ask if it's convenient
for
Reain at the time.. AND she told him he was no longer welcome in her
home. But
I didn't really come here to talk about that... I need a partner."

Kat turned to look through some papers on her desk, moving them around
until
she found the report she was looking for.
She looked it over then frowned slightly.

"I do have one job here that needs someone who isn't... afraid.. so
meet with
a Nomad Chief.. Reain's Uncle's tribe if I remember going by his name..
We have
to warn them that the Nadusi has been sighted in their area and they
need to
move. They can either come here or find some other place to go, but if
they
stay where they are there might be lost of life."

"I'll do it.. but who's going with me?'

Kat looked back down at the paper in her hand. "Um.. the only one I can
spare
right now who isn't already busy.. is Reain."

"Are you kidding!!" Lenna couldn't believe what she was hearing. "You
want to
send her back to the bastard who gave her to that big ass!!"

"I wish I had someone else, but think about it for a moment," Kat told
her.
"Reain knows these people. She will know what to tell them to get them
to move.
You'll be in charge, but she will be of some help to you.. and
besides.. She
wouldn't thank you for holding her back now that she thinks she can
help this
Warren."

Lenna wasn't to sure about that, but she let her friend talk her into
it. So
she left the office and went to find Reain. First though she made a
stop by
her own apartment and loaded herself for bear. Including the sword
Farr'in had
made for her. If she was going to see a Nomad Chief then she wanted to
go looking
as much like a warrior as possible.
