Subject: [DL-J] Offering what comfort she can....

>Day 1
>Evening
>
>He gasped as he opened his eyes and saw the dragon collapsed in the
>sand.
>
>"Easy, she'll be fine... just need to give her a chance to rest," came a
>soothing and familiar voice.
>
>Tyler let them help him up the beach and into the warren before again
>wondering aloud, "Gus and Loki?"
>
>"Gone." Came the same cultured voice. "Sorry."
>
>Tyler felt his throat close up but managed to again ask the next painful
>question, "Jerram and Seydor?"
>
>"They returned to the warren. They'll be... fine." Sarilyn said,
>softly.
>
>Tyler nodded and managed to focus on the young woman's face and smiled,
>"Thanks... Sari...."
>
>---
>Tyler hadn't thought of who else might be furious with him, but a second
>later he found out, as Dolfis came barreling into him.
>
>The old pirate grabbed Tyler by the lapels and yanked him up off his
>feet. "Is she gone?? Tell me you stopped her. Tell me!!" He shouted
>into Tyler's face, spittle spraying from his mouth.
>
>Tyler managed to gasp out, his teeth rattling in his head, "We tried,
>she was too far out..."
>
>"NO!" Dolfis yelled. "Why did you let her take it from you! You had
>the scepter! You should have taken it! You... YOU should be Dead! Not
>her... not Augusta!"
>
>"Leave him alone!" Sarilyn cried out as Dolfis was pulled back, but
>Tyler knew Dolfis had already let him go before they had separated them.
>Dolfis spun away, pu****ng his way through the throng of onlookers, his
>face a tortured mask.
>
>Tyler looked at the sea of faces, "K'mal?" He needed him. Where was
>he? He looked around again and saw Dylan coming toward him.
>
>"Dylan!"
>
>She had been crying. Her face was streaked with tears, but she came and
>put her arms around Tyler and held him.
>
>"I be so sorry for yer losses," she murmured.
>
>Losses? Tyler shook his head. She had said... losses? As in... more
>than one? "Gus... and..."
>
>"K'mal. I am sorry I didna get ta know him, but I know ya cared deeply
>fer him."
>
>"K'mal?" Tyler's head snapped up and he looked around for the
>swaggering young man who had claimed his heart. "No! He's... he's...."
>
>Dylan's eyes widened, "Ya didna know? Oh! Tyler, I be so sorry ta be
>the one ta tell ya!" Her eyes filled with tears.

Sari was in tears herself. She *hated* losing friends, fellow
riders, dragons. Lunath was keening loudly, her head thrown back, her
gaze
focused upwards towards the sky. Sari turned, headed for the Dining
Hall,
and soon returned, carrying skins of wine, and gl*****. She offered
them
around, saying softly, "I don't know what i can do to offer any sort of

comfort, but maybe this will help dull the pain for a little while?"

Then, she blushed crimson, knowing that had to be the dumbest,
most
stupid thing she could have said right then. Dulling it wouldn't make
it go
away, only make it stronger when the hangover wore off. "I'm sorry,"
she
said softly, "that was horrible. I used to know exactly the right
things to
say, or do, at times like this. I guess I've let that side of me stay
buried a bit too long. I ask your forgiveness, and hope my remarks
didn't
come out sounding too callous."

Taking the last skin for herself, she wandered away from the
group,
popping the cork and taking a long healthy swallow.

{{ Mine? It is sad, yes....but we all cope the best we can.
You
are too hard on yourself, you know, }} came the soft mental ****ge from
her
dragon. {{ You have the best of two worlds, and you make the best of
it. I
love you, no matter who or what you are. }}

Sari sniffled, swiping at her face, and downed another large
swallow. (( Yes, I know. But if *I'm* not hard on me, who will be,
dearest? I have to set an example. I can't be weak. I'm supposed to
be a
strong woman, a rider, daughter of a Holder. )) She looked up to see
Lunath
wandering towards her, locking her brilliant gaze with that of her
rider,
crooning sadly but softly. And the young woman moved to wrap her arms
around Lunath's head, taking comfort from that warm breath in her hair
and
on her face.

(NRPG: I'm back! MISSED YOU!!!!!)
