Subject: [USS Capricorn] While the Cats Away..........

MD 4: Late night

******* "We are betrayed Marquis!" J'sse spoke to his master. ******

The cat's excellent hearing picked up patches of the conversation in
the clearing ahead as she lead the Engineer and her team through the
forest. Things were about to get rather sticky and the wily feline knew
it was best to stay close, yet out of the way. This really wasn't her
fight, but she also knew that any loyalties she had were with the
people in uniform, mainly because they were her ticket off this planet.

Leaving her charges to their own kind the black cat skittered into the
forest finding an overhanging perch to observe from.

******* Commander Phillips, please lead us back to the shuttlecraft.
Commander A'kora, where are we with that?" *********

The cat was torn with following the First Officer or staying with 'the
one'. There was something about the odd woman that was neither human,
nor what she appeared to be. A powerful strength emitted from the one
the cathater called A'Kora and the little feline was strangely drawn to
it. But the beasts were gathering and fascinations would need to wait
until later.

[..]

The little black cat was now gone and in its place stood the massive
tiger. Using the ancient trees as its path the striped predator
followed along over head as the ragtag group made their way back to the
shuttle. The yellowish green eyes glowed with an eerie light as it
watched the First Officer nervously scanning the brush then looking up
to check the trees along the way.

[..]

The sleek animal knew if the humans did not leave soon that they would
be in trouble. The slavering beasts hidden in the forest were massing
in large numbers. There was a something different about the disgusting
creatures tonight, something that she hadn't sensed from them before.
There was order, a hint of intelligence amongst the unruly throng and
the large predator took care to ponder this.

This new observation only heightened her awareness and she proceeded
with caution as she stalked a creature that had foolishly chosen to
wander off. Its death was swift and silent, only a faint gurgle coming
from its missing throat. The tiger stealthily looked for its next
victim, its tongue instinctively licking the life's fluid from its
lips. Hardened muscles and sinew rippled under the blood stained fur,
the rare power of primal urges sending the big cat through the darkness
with a deadly purpose.

She kept her downwind and went after lone stragglers and had taken out
a fair share of the beasts all the while never venturing too far for
the humans. The instinct to stop and feed was almost overpowering but
she knew she couldn't and continued her wave of silent death. Her
timing had to be just right, or she could be stuck here forever.

[..] On the ****p after the final beam out from the planet

The trans****ter room was filled with the people from the planet as well
as ****p security. No one saw the little black cat skitter from behind
the engineer into the sea of milling legs. At the first op****tune
moment she was out of the trans****ter room door and into the nearest
jeffries tube. For a brief moment she lay at the top of the tube
watching half bodies move back and forth in front of the opening. Then
with a flick of its tail the furry stowaway trotted down the familiar
passageways. It was good to be back. Now she just needed to find a
quiet place to tend her wounds and clean her sticky coat.

MD 5:

<Snippets>

As he opened his quarters

door, he was not pleased with the sight before him. "Petra." Avi
breathed.

"I am not in the mood." He said to the black cat sitting on his chaise

lounge, licking her paws.

*you never are. That is your biggest problem.*

*****

Humans could be so dumb, especially this one! She rarely *talked* with
humans and wasn't sure why she was bothering now. Especially with
'him'. Flexing her claws she gently licked the remaining flecks of
blood she'd missed before, letting the man rant and occasionally
answering him so that he could justify being a cat hater.

*****

"All evidence proving that fact." Avi said, falling down into bed.
"Now,

if you could please exit through whatever shaft you entered in, I'd

appreciate it. I am dead tired."

She purred, but didn't move. He'd simply have to learn who was in
charge.

Maybe sooner rather than later. After about thirty minutes, his
breathing

steadied to a pattern of in and out, and she stopped grooming to move

towards him.

**********

Actually a little nap did seem in order and made herself comfortable on
the bed. Feline dreams are not for mortal man and those of an Ambraxian
are even worse as Petra curled into a tiny ball, her tail curling
around to cover her face, the sound of Avi's even breathing lulling
her.

[..]

The hard kick to her side sent Petra flipping off the bed, her
schreecing hiss echoing through the room.

*******

"CAT! Get out of my quarters, NOW! I would hate for something bad to

happen to you!" looking up at him, he could see Petra's eyes smiling at

him. Walking off, he could hear her laugh in his head.

*You should go see your guests.* She said before disappearing beneath
his

couch.

<End Snippets>

And so she would she.

All Petra's instincts told her that the one they called the Master was
not to be trusted, and obviously his people even less. His horror at
the betrayal was genuine, it clung to him like a morbid cloak. But he
couldn't hide what he really was, at least not from her. These beings
were far different then the Starfleet knew. They existed on a tem****al
plane beyond that of mere mortals. Their emotions, their feelings were
finite, evanescent, ****fting so fast at times her senses could not keep
up. They used their minds to corrupt and deceive, but she doubted the
cat hater would listen, at least not until it was too late. What was it
the Master had said about how many lifetimes he had lived?

[..] In the airvents in the guest quarters

The little cat roamed through the duct system with ease finally
arriving at her chosen destination. The hair on her neck bristled at
the sight of the Marin whispering endearments to the Bajoran woman
sitting next to him. The Master was consorting with the scientist of
all people. This did not bode well. A familiar scent tickled her nose
making the yellowish eyes widen in recognition. Cat! She smelled a cat!

She watched until after a fa****on Marquis became aware of another's
presence and his head slowly turned towards the vent. He stared
intently at the grating his eyes alight with what, Petra wasn't sure.
Recognition, dread, or was it fear? Even though he and his people were
extremely powerful and by far more then the humans realized, they still
feared her, yet not in the same way as the creatures.

In the castle they had tried on occasion to trap her, but learned
rather quickly that tangling with a potential prey that has bigger
fangs is not one of the smartest things to do. Once they realized she
was a better ally then a treat they'd left her alone. But they were no
longer on the planet now, and she couldn't be sure of anything at the
moment. Backing away from the baleful gaze the cat trotted off debating
on whom to torment next.

[..] MD 5:1445

*Yeah yeah I missed you too!* Petra purred in the feline language
accepting the nuzzled greetings of the male tom cat, whom had grown
quite a lot since she'd last seen him. She had completely forgotten
about Lost, it was too bad he really was just a dumb cat. Casually
searching the scientists quarters with the young tom close on her tail
the Ambraxian grew irritated with the pushy attention. *Back off
buddy!* She growled with a hard swat that sent the other feline
rolling. *And keep your nose outta my butt!*

Poking her nose into his food dish Petra sneezed. Dumb humans, it was
amazing the garbage they fed their 'animal friends'. But then the fact
that the scientist took the time to at least feed him was a point in
her favor. Lapping up some water the black cat continued to snoop but
it wasn't long before she grew bored and was off again, leaving Lost to
fend for himself.

Subject: [USS CAPRICORN] Decision time

 MD5

****

Marquis moved quietly among his people, offering a word of reassurance
here,
a comforting touch there. The mood among them was muted, many of them
appeared to be in shock, but at least they were safe here.

"Marquis..." the voice was barely above a whisper, but he heard it
clear as
a bell. He'd wondered when she would reveal herself.

"Istria," he said, his weary face breaking into a smile, as he turned
towards where she stood in the shadows. "Does your Captain know you're
here?"

She shook her head.

"I thought not," he said.

Istria didn't reply, nor resist when he took her into his arms.

"I am forcing you into some very difficult decisions," he said.

"No," she said. "It's not your fault. I think we've both just learned
how it
feels to be betrayed by our own people."

A flicker passed across his face, but Istria couldn't read his
emotions.

"I can't stay long," she murmured. "But I *will* be back. We shall not
be
separated again."

Marquis smiled. "It will be as it should be," he said. "Together for
eternity."

**********
<Slightly later>

Stalking through the Capricorn's corridors, Istria's frown was even
deeper
than usual, accentuated by her Bajoran nose-ridges. Life was suddenly
complicated, and although Istria relished complexity in her work, it
was
unwelcome in her personal life.

Suddenly she needed someone. And suddenly her worst suspicions about
the
organisation she worked for had been confirmed. All those years of
being
dismissed as a neurotic victim, struggling to come to terms with
'survivor's
guilt' after a tragic accident. And now she knew it had been no
accident.
Well, she had known all along that it was a set-up, but now she had
proof.

Not that that would make any difference. She slammed her hand into the
wall
in frustration, thankful that no one was near to see her momentary loss
of
control. The Powers that Be had effectively closed ranks. She *knew*
the
orders had come from SFIA, and that she was nothing to do with the
Intelligence Authorities, but with the hold they had over her own
superiors,
she was effectively muzzled.

Not to mention, perhaps in more than a little danger. She knew too
much.

Istria found herself moving closer and closer to the decision she had
told
herself was totally lacking in common sense. She could no longer work
for an
organisation that had betrayed not only her, but those who had depended
on
her.

And she wanted to be with the man she loved.

******
<Avi's Ready Room, approx 1900 (change if that doesn't work for you,
Josh!)>

Istria stood to attention, ignoring Avi's offer of a chair and attempt
to
make her relax.

"I am assuming that Marquis and his people will soon be leaving us,"
she
continued.

Avi nodded.

"I would request permission to leave with them," she said.

Respectfully submitted
Carina
for
Lt Istria Talara (CSciO USS Capricorn)

SUMMARY
MD5 - shortly after the Marins are beamed aboard

Istria finds Marquis with his people, and they declare they will not be

separated again.

Later: Istria ponders her 'betrayal' by Starfleet, and decides that she
can
no longer work for an organisation like that.

Later still (1900?): She tells Avi that she wants to leave with
Marquis>
