Subject: [DL-C] Can Win For Losing

<Sy... Tell Blanchie we have Uncle safe.. Have to find Wife of Uncle
before
go back to Warren,> Reain sent to her dragon as her head whipped back
and forth
trying to look downward to find sight of her Aunt. All she could see
were bodies
running here and there but she could not identify any of them.

>>Blanchie's rider sees her..<< The sky blue dragon told her rider seconds
later,
even as she struggled with the human she had gripped in her claw
without hurting
him. >>They have her now and say we are to go back to warren now.
Other's will
try to save the rest of tribe.<<

Reain didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay and make sure the others
in the
tribe were safe, but knew with her Uncle hanging below her, staying
wasn't an
option. She needed to get him back to the safety of the Warren so he
could be
there when the other riders began bring in the members of his tribe.
Someone
of authority needed to be where they could settle down the scared
nomads.

<Take us to Warren,> the rider told her dragon and seconds later the
scenes
of the battle were left behind and the floor of the Warren appeared
below them.

Sylois must have called on ahead and told them they were bring
survivors back
with them, for there were people standing around on the green waiting
to help
Chief Rainen down from the grip of Sylois' claw. When she was sure he
was safely
away from the landing area, Reain asked her dragon to land. Slipping
over the
side, she raced to the spot where her Aunt was just being led to join
with her
Uncle. He did not look happy.

In fact.. Chief Reainen looked down right... Pissed off, as Lenna would
say.
Reain wasn't sure she wanted to get to close to her uncle at the
moment, but
then he spotted her and gave her no choice when he started towards her.
As he
drew near she stood her ground. She had done nothing wrong and had
saved his
life.

Still, she wasn't prepared when his hand lifted and he swung his balled
up fist
towards her head. She started to duck, knowing she wasn't going to be
fast enough,
but before his fist could connect with her, a hand shot between them,
and Reainen's
hand was stilled inches from his nieces head.

"We of this Warren protect each other. Especially our women riders. If
you want
to hit someone.." a male voice, cold as steel was saying. "Then try
taking a
swing at me. I'm more your size."

Reainen pulled sharply against the hold of the big smith, and tried to
get around
him, but Turner stood solidly in his path blocking the nomad chief from
getting
any closer to Reain. His hand reached for the hilt of his sword, but
before
he could draw if, Turner had his out and pointed at the Chief's throat.
Reainen
was not happy, but for the moment backed down.

"Get out of my way! It is my honor taken!" Reainen growled, his dark
eyes glaring
at the man keeping him from extracting satisfaction on the one who
stole said
honor.

"It was your worthless hide she saved!" Turner growled back, still
refusing
to move aside, though he lowered his own sword now that the danger was
passed.
"You should be on your knees thanking Dragonrider Reain and her dragon
Sylois
for their timely rescue. Not acting like a crazy Banta.."

"Chief Reainen gets on his knees to no man" Reain's Uncle shouted
affronted
that Turner could even suggest such blasphemy. "Lease of all to a
honorless
woman such as she!"

Turner had purposely used the derogatory Nomad word to get the mans
attention
back on himself and off of Reain. He shot a quick glance at his sister
to stay
put, when he saw her start forward to defend her friend. They needed
calm now,
not one of Lenna's famous explosions. "The Nadusi damn near killed you
as it
did the rest of your honor guard the riders are saying, and you should
be thanking
whatever Gods you look to that your Niece and her dragon were there to
save
your sorry ass."

Reain stood there to shocked to move, knowing she had erred again. She
had let
her emotions rule her heart again and stepped in where a mans honor was
involved.
When would she ever learn.

"You did what you had to do to save his live," a soft low voice said
from her
side, and she turned to see Lenna standing there with Kelly beside the
tall
blonde rider. "He would have died if you and Sy hadn't grabbed him.
Honor be
damned, His tribe needs for him to have lived to keep them together.
Who else
could have done it?"

"Uncle does not see it that way," Reain snorted as she watched the by
play between
the big Smith and her Uncle, sounding more like Lenna every day. "Think
he could
kill s**** thing by self and save world, not just tribe."

"And he thought wrong," Kelly told her. "Lenna is right. No matter what
your
... Uncle is mouthing off about, you did the right thing Reain. Your
Uncle will
come to see that once he calms down."

"Nomad male take long time to calm down," the young woman snorted
again, causing
both Warren riders to chuckle softly, as Reain was also developing a
sense of
humor. Before they could stop her Reain stepped around Lenna to
confront her
Uncle.

"Chief Reainen.. I speck to you as Dragonrider of Warren. Not as niece
who love
and respect Uncle." Her tone was firm, unlike the young nomad women who
had
first come to the Warren after living her life as a slave. She was
still finding
her way, but with the Warren riders behind her, she was finally coming
out of
her shell and believing in herself more.

"Reain did what Reain did to save live of Tribe. Not to dishonor Chief.
Tribe
need leader to rule them, To make them strong. You are Chief. You make
Tribe
strong.. so have to live. Reain know about s**** thing that kill both
nomad
people and people who live in sand. Not good thing to be killed by
s**** thing.
Reain know s**** thing can not be kill by swords of Bravest of Nomad
Chief.
Reain did what honor require. Save tribe by saving what make tribe
strong. Would
do it if you not Uncle of Reain.

"Instead of yelling at the girl for saving your sorry ass," Turner
started,
appalled by the man's actions. "You should be on your knees thanking
her for
thinking about the people who look to you to lead them. If anything as
a dragonrider,
she increase your *honor* when she plucked you out of the path of the
Nadusi.
In saving you life, by putting her own life and that of her dragon in
the line
of trouble, she showed how deeply she *Honors* you as a person of
im****tance."

"Bahh..." Reainen brushed off Turner's words as worthless drabble. "You
not
Nomad. You not understand Nomad Honor. Where Andahar? Where Lady
Warrior who
run stone village? Why is woman not here to talk to Chief?"

"The Warrenlady just gave birth to twins," Kelly stepped forward to
inform the
Nomad male, while sending a silent message to her dragon to put out a
call to
Bohoc to get his rider back to the Warren like yesterday. "Chief
Andahar and
his dragon, Bohoc are with the other riders trying to save your tribe
from the
Nadusi attacking them right now."

Reainen glared at her as he crossed his arms over his puffed out chest.
"Then
will wait for Chief Andahar to return to the Warren before talk again.
Chief
Andahar know how to deal with woman who brings dishonor to male
better."

Chief Reainen was still upset with Andahar for the way he had treated
his niece,
but this was something that could only be settled by men. He would wait
for
Andahar to return before airing his displeasures, then he would
confront the
Nomad male on the dishonor he had brought to the Tent of Reainen.
