Day 107 Late Evening
Lexi pursed his lips in a frown as he tightened the saddle straps on
Ishtar then adding a bag of special treats from Pandora's larder. The
black female's head curled around to watch the big man intently.
Feeling the warm breath on his shoulder he reached out to stroke the
large snout. "You take good care of her Ish, ok!" He mumbled in a low
tone knowing the dragon didn't really understand him, but she
understood his tone, and that's all that mattered. "And don't let her
be going down any more holes, ya hear!"
Huge eyes blinked at him and the dragon ****ged his shoulder gently.
Moving to check ****ver's straps finally the blacksmith let lose with a
big sigh as he knew it was time to say goodbye to his friend. He'd
gotten used to having Ackety around plying him with questions about
training and this and that and the next thing. But she'd learned and
grown a lot since her arrival and had done a great job with the
searchlings. He was proud of her and would miss her presence. But
Ishtar's talents were needed elsewhere, how long they would be gone he
didn't know, but such was the life of the dragonrider. Moving back to
the black dragon, he gave her one final pat then walked over to where
Akety was standing to watch the sky.
"You take care of yourself Squirt! Remember everything you've learned,
and you'll be okay!" Lexi said. Glancing to the sky he smiled, "He'll
be here, don't worry!"
She was chewing her lower lip when she looked up at him, "I hope so!"
Her nervous excitement was plain and Lexi couldn't help but chuckle. He
remembered the first time he 'went out' on an assignment, "You and Ish
are going to be just fine! Go kick some butt Kiddo! But don't take to
long now, and don't start liking it there either cause I don't want to
have to come get you!" He grinned with a wink.
Akety smiled warmly at the affectionate tone in the blacksmith's voice.
"Hopefully I won't be too long! I'm going to miss you guys!"
Scooping the brunette off her feet into a big hug, "I know you'll make
us proud Akety and I'm going to miss you too!" Lexi whispered into her
ear.
Suddenly the flap of wings overhead and the howl of a wolf echoed
across the warren bringing a pensive smile to the big man's face. It
was about damned time they showed up.
