Subject: [DL-J] When The Walls Crumble
When they arrived at the dining hall, Fig knew almost right away that
something was wrong. Jerram's face had began to relax a bit after their
talk, but now it looked as if someone had punched him hard in the
stomach.
She started to reach out her hand to give what comfort she could, when
she
noticed he wasn't even looking at her. It was as if he had forgotten
she
was there. Her eyes followed his line of sight and when she saw the boy
sitting there, she suddenly understood.
He turned to Fig. "Listen, I need to go and talk to one of our riders
for
just a bit. Would it be all right if I..."
Fig nodded. "Of course. In fact, I was just thinking, if this is going
to
take a little time, perhaps I could take a stroll through Jasra, get
reacquainted with the old place..."
What she was hoping to do was go by the med center and see if she could
over hear anything about her mother's condition. Jerram hadn't been to
forth coming about what was wrong with her, other then she'd been
injured.
"No," said Jerram shaking his head emphatically. "You need to stay out
of sight as much as possible. Tell you what, once you've finished your
coffee, go back to the apartment and wait for me, ok?"
Fig nodded and fought to keep her disappointment from showing on her
face.
He turned from her as soon as she gave him her word, and then it was
almost as if he had forgotten she was even there.
She suddenly lost her taste for the coffee she had wanted, and after
watching Jerram twirl his chair around as he had done back in the
apartment, and start talking to the young man at the table, Fig turned
around and left the dining hall and returned to apartment to wait for
Jerram's return.
So he still did not trust her, Fig mused as she closed the apartment
door
behind her after checking on a sleeping Kasha. He might have told her
he
wanted her to stay in the apartment until he could take her around and
introduce her to people... But she knew it for what it was.
He just did not trust her. He wanted to make sure she didn't do
anything
devious while he was gone.. Or maybe he thought she was lying through
her
teeth and locked her in.. so to speak... to test her... Not that she
could
really blame him. After all her story was really out there. She herself
might not have believed it if someone else had come to her and told her
that they had come back from the future to save the world. She might
have
though they were either drunk or out of their mind.
He was probably having the apartment watched to make sure she didn't
leave
it. (though she hadn't *seen* anyone on her walk back over) That's what
her Jerram would have done. Given a person enough rope and wait to see
if
they hung themselves with it. But she had to give it to him. He had
listened and had not thrown her out on her backside. Points in his
favor.
He'd even come up with some ideas she hadn't thought about. But then
Jerram always good at figuring out hidden agendas.. as well as where
she
used to hide his name day gifts.
It had been a year now, more or less since she had left her own time
line
and her family, and it had been harder then she could have ever
imagined,
sitting there in the same room with him and not being allowed to touch
him. Or to offer him the comfort she could see he was in need of. His
face
and the way he had smelled had been so familiar.. yet.. there had been
small difference as well as a sadness about him.. he had looked not
only
tired, but distressed as if he had lost someone very dear to him....
Lost... someone... dear... as in loved.
Fig groan.. He had... She remembered now.. the Wingleader whom he had
spoken of. Fig remembered now the stories her mother had told her about
Jerram's lost love. Her mother had told her that he had loved the woman
very much and had broken many of young ladies hearts because he could
never forget the one woman he had given his heart to and move on with
someone new. Instead he had thrown himself into his duties and ignored
the
women's attempts to offer comfort.. or more.
Tara had told her about the girl one night after she realizes her
daughters feelings for her *Uncle* had changed from the love of a niece
for her uncle, to those of a woman for a man she fancied. Tara had told
her the story of Jerram's lost love for she feared her daughters heart
would be broken and wanted to prevent that from happening. But Kayara
hadn't wanted to listen. She fell in love with the man anyway and even
though she knew he had feelings for her also.. Jerram had fought it. Oh
and how he had fought it. Until the dragons decided to take matters
into
their own hands.. er.. claws.. and Kasha had taken off in her first
mating
flight. She had flown high and wide and male after male had fallen by
the
way side until only Seydor was left to follow. Kasha decided he was
worthy
of her and in the morning when they had woken up, Jerram finally quit
fighting her.
She smiled at the memory and felt a certain smugness coming from her
link
with her dragon. Kasha was remembering it to. But Fig had to stop
thinking
about the past. She had to keep her mind focused on the here and now
and
not on something she could never have again.
Like Jerram. She had to remember that that this was not *her* Jerram.
This
was not the man who she was in love with and had shared a life with.
She
would have to keep her feelings hidden from him and never let him know
that one day... they would be mates ..and have a child.
When this was all over, she would get on her dragon and fly away from
Jasra and never look back. This wasn't her time.
A drink. That's what she needed. A drink to dim her mind and make her
forget. Then she remembered he had left the open bottle on the table
when
they had left earlier for food. A good drunk sounded wonderful about
now
since she didn't know how long he was going to be gone. But then she
remembered what he had said about a clear mind, and gave a deep sigh as
she put the cork back in the bottle she had reached for, and put the
bottle back in the cabinet where he had found it. Next she cleaned up
the
glasses for something to do and then wondered back into the living room
and took down the small stuffed bear from a shelf where she had placed
it
earlier.
Hugging the bear to her chest Fig wondered over to the window and
looked
out. In her minds eye she saw the Warren the way it was in her time.
She
pictured the people she knew walking around as they went about their
daily
duties. Or pictured dragons sleeping in the warm sun while their riders
were off doing something else.
She heard the sound of children laughing as they played and couldn't
stop
the sob that escaped or the sharp pain of longing that sliced through
her
as a picture of a little boy with dark eyes and hair came to her. He
was
laughing out in glee as he was thrown into the air by a man who looked
like an older version of the child.
Jeremy... Her son. A tear slid unnoticed down her cheek as memories of
her
son forced a crack in the wall she had built around her heart over the
last year while she healed. One tear was followed by another and
another
until she couldn't control the flood that nearly blinded her. How she
missed him. Her sweet little boy who she would never hold in her arms
again. Never wipe his tears when he fell or feel his sweet little lips
against her cheek or hear him say *I love you mommy*.
Jeremy was gone to her now in this time, but if she could figure out
why
she had to come back.. and fix it.. then her little boy would never
know
the sacrifice his mother made for him. His life would go on. In his
time,
she would still be there loving him as if nothing had changed... But if
she failed..
She was about to turn away from the window when her eyes caught sight
of
something familiar. At first she thought it was a dream, but she was
awake
and it really was Kay... her father walking across the green. A younger
Kay.. but still it was him.
She wanted to run out and see him, to speak to him and tell him... She
was
half way to the door when reality hit and she remembered where and
*when*
she was. She couldn't tell him anything, because he would not know who
she
was, nor could she leave this apartment until Jerram came back. She had
given him her word and if she wanted his help then she had to prove to
him
that his word was good and she had to prove to him that he could trust
her.
Instead she watched her father until he was out of sight, and then went
back to the couch and curled up with the stuff bear. Not long after
that
she was asleep and that was where Jerram found her when he came looking
for her hours later.

Fig & Kasha
Age: 23
Height 5'7"
Eyes : dark brown (she has her mother eyes)
Hair : Long curly and black (like her fathers)
She has long legs and an athletic built from years of working
out. Her movements often remind people of a feline, because
her movements are fluid, not sharp.
History:
(To be told to people she meets in this time line)
Fig will be introduced as the daughter of Lord Darden. She
was born at a time when his family was looking for him to
kill him for his wild ways and wicket believes. He thought
it would be safer for her if he told no one about her. So he
left her to be raised by her mother, visiting her every so
often to make sure she was being treated well. She was well
loved. When she was 15, she ran away after some silly fight
and found an egg just before it hatched. It is told that she
joined with Kasha, her dragon then. When Darden (aka Wisp)
found out about the dragon, he moved her to live with friends
of his who were retired dragonriders. Who taught her
everything she needed to know about raising and riding a
dragon. Now he's sending her to live with her cousin.. The
Warrenlady of Jasra for further training and to keep her
in line.
(Her REAL back ground *Unknown* to anyone in the Warren and
will NOT be told to anyone but Jerram at this time)
She grew up in a very loving home with a mother and father who,
though busy with their lives, always had time for their one
daughter. She grew up as a Warren child, with everyone taking
part in her up bring leaving her well adjusted and happy with
her life. She is the daughter of the Warrenlady Tara of Jasra
and her mate, Kay, rider of the dragon Sabbith. But this fact
is not known to anyone.
When she was 15 she fell from the side of a cliff when a rock
she was standing on gave way and plunged down 30 feet before
hitting the bottom. The fall caused her to suffer a broken leg
and broken right arm. While she was in the med center a
hatching went on and a lone dragon was left on the sands unable
to find her life mate. The unlookers were worried she was going
to go wild as she left the hatching cave and wondered around
the Warren proper until she made her way to the med center
where she forced her way inside and down a long hall until she
pushed open the door to Figs room.. and there their joining
took place.
She fell in love for the first time with a man who was years
older then herself and it took her some time to convince him
that the age difference didn't matter to her. It finally took
his dragon winning hers in a mating flight before he came
around. So far his dragon is the only one to win her Kasha in
the many mating flights she's had since then. They have one son,
Jermy who is three at the time Fig leaves her time to try and
fix the rips in time.
She knows if she can do what she came to Jasra to do then her
life will go on in her own time as if she never left, and in
that time a she will be there to love her mate and raise her
child, with no memory of the trouble in the time lines. But
the woman here in Jasra now can never go home.. for coming
through the time rip was a one way trip. She knows she can
never get back to her time. Something the Wiseman had told
her, but she left that part out when telling Jerram of her
story. A choice she made when she came forward to save a
world. She would miss her son and her life, but she came back
so that they would continue on with the life they were living..
and her mother would be alive to keep the Warren and the
Dragonlands free of the bad times. It was a case of the good
of the many out weighing the needs of the one.
She has told no one but Jerram about her reason for being in
Jasra. Wisp found her when she arrived injured and nursed her
back to health. He felt a connection with her, but knows not
why. He trusts her and calls her daughter to quiet questions
people might have about her past. He knows she is not from
this time line, but she has never told him the real reasons
for her being there. Traplin, rider of Diemis and Wisp's friend,
is also in on it. He knows just what Wisp knows.
There are also things Fig didn't tell Jerram.. like the fact
Jermy is his son... He was her mate in her time and Fig knows
she will never love another man the way she still loves him.
Something this Jerram may never know.
Kasha:
Age: 5 yrs.
Color : Dark Gray with swirls of a lighter gray making her look
almost like rock marble. She is an able fighter in the air and
is train in search and rescue. She is sure of herself and
protective of her rider. No matter if the Queen asks her to tell
her about her past.. Kasha will never tell anyone.
There has been only one dragon worthy enough to win her during
mating flights and she refuses to allow any other close to her
at that time. Though she is friendly and will cuddle with other
dragons to listen to the gossip they are known for spreading.
