Subject: [DL-D] A Hatching During A Battle
[DL-D]
Day 130
Evening
Hatching Cavern
The searchlings had stopped at the edge of the sands, as they
watched the battle going on in front of them.
<Snip>
"Guys, stop fighting. We have to get the eggs out!" He
paused as some stopped to look at him. "It will be
hard, the queen may not let us, but we have to grab
the eggs and carry them out!"
"She'll eat us!"
"She'll smash us!"
"Do you want to save your dragons or not!!" Alden
turned as Alton stood next to him. "His right, we go
in grab a egg and bring it out here... or some place
those things can't smash them."
"Guys we need to get them out... there is no other
way!"
Alden sighed. "If you wish them to die a death they
can't even see or fight against, fine, I just hope you
can sleep tonight." He went in, closely followed by
his brother.
<End Snip>
"They're right, we need to do what we can to save those eggs"
ShyMela said, she had to shout over the noise of the battle, in order
for the other searchlings to hear her.
The two brothers, turned back to see who had shouted.
<Snip>
A young girl with black hair. She had to just come to
the warren.
Alton smiled a bit as he turned to go save the eggs.
<End Snip>
ShyMela smiled back, as the brothers turned back and started
towards the eggs, but before they could take more than three steps,
they stopped. Their eyes on Galendriel, as the queen tried protecting
her eggs.
<Snip>
Galendriel turned her head and brought in down to
them. Her eyes flaring angrily, her teeth baring. The
twins could feel her heated breath.
It seemed like seconds as she opened her maw and they
could feel the heat growing warmer. The twins shut
there eyes ready for fire when they hear a women's
voice.
"Galendriel!"
They felt the air cool off and the sound of her head
rising up. Alden looked back and saw The duchess. He
and his brother let out a sigh of
'thank-god-she-here'
Then the attention turned to her.
<End Snip>
The rest of the searchlings rushed over to the twin brothers, but
no one said anything. They all just watched Galendriel as her rider
spoke to her.
<Snip>
"Grab the eggs and get out.... keep them warm!" Alden
yelled as he turned to them. He turned back toward
the eggs as they rushed up and started to take them,
all the searchlings all seeming to go straight to a
certain egg.
"Thea, is here... that should keep her dragon from
eating us." Alden said as he watched others pick up
the eggs and head out, as they worked together many of
the eggs were hauled outside the hatching caves and
onto the green.
"Grab the big one!"
Alden and his brother turned to see what one of the
other riders were talking about. The biggest egg out
the bunch was starting to shift down, it was sinking.
They both ran to the egg and pulled it from his
sinking grave. This one was much heaver then the other
ones that they had hauled out. They both held onto a
end half walking half running, past others that were
going in to get more of the eggs.
<End Snip>
ShyMela gasped, as she watched the biggest egg shift and start
sinking into the hole.
Watching the twin brothers rush towards the huge egg, ShyMela then
shifted her gaze to the rest of the eggs.
Looking back at the huge egg, as it shifted more, she spotted
another egg, very small, just behind the large egg, barely visible.
Seeing that the small egg was shifting closer to the hole, ShyMela
gasped! "Oh no!" She said as she ran as fast as the sand would allow,
towards the small egg.
The small egg shifted again, slipping further into the hole.
ShyMela tried running faster, but the sand didn't allow it.
Just a few feet away, ShyMela lunged forward and caught the egg,
just before it would have been lost forever down that hole.
ShyMela stood, egg in her hands, and stepping back quickly, so as
not to lose herself and the egg down that slowly, widening hole.
Holding the egg close to her body, ShyMela ran out of the Hatching
Caverns.
Once outside, ShyMela stopped and shifted the egg to get a better
hold onto it.
The egg rocked a bit, as ShyMela began running again, pass the
Medical Center and Warren Offices, to the Green.
When ShyMela reached the edge of the Green, she slowly sat down,
with the egg in her lap, ShyMela wrapped her arms around it, to keep it
warm.
ShyMela realized that the pressure pushing against her mind, was
gone. She had to fight hard against that pressure.
Those Wyverns had caused that pressure, the anger, and fighting
between everyone. ShyMela remembered being told about the abilities of
Wyverns and what they can do.
They were the reason why Roxie and Dante were arguing, just as the
searchlings had been arguing among themselves.
As the other searchlings began arriving on the Green with the eggs
they had saved, ShyMela spotted the twin brothers carefully helping two
small, white hatchlings to walk.
As the twins started across the Green, they stopped to tell
everyone that they were to take their hatchlings to the Training Area
as soon as they were hatched. Then, with a smile from both of them,
they continued on their way.
As ShyMela watched the two brothers headed towards the Training
Area, aiding the small dragons, ShyMela's attention was brought back to
the egg she had rescued, which was rocking in her lap.
ShyMela slowly placed the small egg on the grass, watching it as
it rocked vigorously back and forth.
ShyMela's eyes widened, as a crack formed on the side of the egg.
That crack grew, as the egg rocked.
ShyMela wanted to help the little baby to hatch quicker, but knew
that the little dragon had to do it alone.
ShyMela watched with anticipation, eager to meet this new life.
Just then, a piece of the shell landed in her lap as a little,
purple foot kicked it out.
Then another piece landed on the grass next to the egg, as a dark
purple head slowly peeked out.
Seeing ShyMela, the little thing withdrew her head, back into the
shell.
*Don't be afraid, little one, I won't hurt you.* ShyMela told the
little hatchling.
The little dragon poked its head back out of the hole again.
[A...a...are you sure it's safe. I heard loud, scary noises] the little
dragon said.
*Yes, as soon as you've finished hatching, I'll take you where you
will be safer.*
As soon as ShyMela finished sending the mental thought to the
little dragon, the egg cracked completely in two.
The little dragon tumble out, landing, sprawled on the grass.
*Oh, you poor thing*
[I'm okay! Since you are my rider, I should tell you my name, I am
Sarette]
*And I am ShyMela, but you may call me StarMela or Star for short*
As the little dragon stood up, wobbling a bit, ShyMela was able to
get a good look at the little dragon.
The little dragon's main body and wing joints were a plum color,
the underside and wing membranes were a lavendar color.
*You're beautiful, Sarette!*
[I know it!]
Star started laughing at her dragon's sense of humor. *Well we
know who has all the conceit.*
[Thank you!]
Star laughed even harder. *Come on, let's get over to the Training
Area. I'm sure you're pretty hungry*
[Yes, I'm starving]
Helping Sarette to walk, as she was still wobbly, the crossed the
Green to the Training Area.
Star looked back towards the Hatching Caverns, wondering if all
the eggs had been saved. The sounds of battle still going on, but
fading as they got further away.
By the time Star and Sarette reached the Training Area, the sounds
of battle were barily audible. As they entered the Training Area, Star
spotted the twin brothers sitting next to their hatchlings, watching as
they ate.
The two looked up as Star and Sarette passed them.
Star quickly grabbed a bucket of meat for Sarette, then sat down,
not realizing how close she sat to the two brothers.
When Star looked up, she found the two brothers smiling at her,
then they said "hello" in unison.
"Hello" Star said in a barely audible voice, as she smiled back at
them.
The one on the left said, "I'm Alden and this is Neka" as he
placed a hand on his hatchling's white head.
"I'm Alton and this is Emil" the one on the right said.
"Who are you?" they asked in unison.
"I'm StarMela or Star for short, and this is Sarette", Star said
as she lightly stroked the plum colored scales of Sarette's neck.
Suddenly, it hit her. "Sarrette is mine, I've accomplished the
first part of my dreams. I've been joined with my own dragon, with
training, I'll soon be a dragonrider", Star thought as tears welled up
in her eyes.
Star quickly looked away from the boys, as Sarette looked up.
[Are you okay?] Sarette asked Star. But before she could answer,
Star heard another voice asking [is she okay], it was Emil's voice,
while yet another answered Emil [I don't know!], which was Neka's
voice.
*I'm okay! Only tears of joy and happiness*, Star told the three
hatchlings.
Wiping away the tears before looking back at Alden and Alton, who
had very surprised looks on their faces.
"You can speak telepathically to any dragon and human?" Alden
asked.
"Yes, I've been able to talk with dragons, since I was really
young. As for talking with humans telepathically, I only found that out
last night. I can only speak to those who can also, speak
telepathically.
"It's obvious that you're new here, when did you arrive?" Alton
asked.
"I've only arrived, just last night", Star told them.
Looking down at Sarette, then looking around the room, she said
"will you excuse me? I need to find a rag or something to clean this
goo of of Sarette.
Alton pointed to a corner of the room where a large bucket sat.
"There's wet rags in that bucket over there that you can use", he said.
Star went over to the corner and retrieved a wet rag from the
large bucket and then returned to Sarette's side.
Star busied herself with cleaning the goo from Sarette's scales,
as Sarette started on her second bucket of meat.
When Star finished wiping off all that goo, Sarette's scales
looked shiny and clean.
Alton looked around, as the rest of the searchlings began piling
in with their hatchlings.
"Do you know if all of the eggs were saved", Alton said as he
looked at Star.
"I'm not sure, some of the searchlings were still carrying egss
out of the cavern, when we came here." Star said, then added "we could
ask who saved the last egg."
Alden stood up, and began hushing the searchlings, in order to
speak and be heard by all.
"Who was the one that saved the last egg?" Alden asked in a loud
voice.
A skinny, blonde-haired boy steped forward and said that he is the
one who save the last egg.
"Are you sure there were no more eggs left on the hatching sands
when you left?" Alden asked him.
"I saw no others there", the boy said.
"Do you know if any were lost down that hole" Alton asked.
"I don't know if any were lost, but it is possible", the boy said.
"Does anyone know how many eggs there were to start with?" Star
asked.
Everyone were either shaking their heads or saying 'no'.
With a small sigh, Star said "I do hope they were all saved".
"As do we all", Alden said. then added "We won't know until
someone comes and informs us of our loss".
"So, what do we do now?" the skinny, blode-haired boy asked.
"We wait until someone comes and lets us know what to do next",
Star said.
"We might as well make ourselves comfortable, it could be a long
time before anybody comes" Alton said.
Just then, Star noticed that Sarette had finished her food and had
moved over to Neka and Emil.
*Did you get your fill, Precious One?* Star asked Sarette.
[I did, thank you!], Sarette answered back.
Star looked at Alden and Alton and said "It looks like our
hatchlings have taken a liking to each other."
Star, Alden and Alton all began laughing.

[DL-D]
Day 130
Hatching Caverns
Evening
The searchlings rush to save the eggs, which begin hatching soon
after.
The searchlings all had to assist their hatchlings in walking, as
they headed for the Training Area, where they would be safe from the
Wyverns, and where they could feed their bundles of joy.
As Star's hatchling eats, Star cleans the goo off of Sarette's
body, leaving her scales clean and shiny.
