Subject: [DL-W] Oh, What a Night. (JP)
Day 17
Late Afternoon
Jael nodded to Bubba before he turned to follow J'red and Ari to their
dragons. He liked the big man.
The dragons took them swiftly back to the warren's green. J'red and
Ari walked off together, barely acknowledging Jael as they left him.
"Merissa will expect a report," J'red commented to Jael, not liking
the way the other rider's eyes avoided directly meeting his gaze as he
nodded.
Jael's mouth twisted sardonically as he watched them walk away. He
watched as they headed toward the warren offices and go in. Then his
eye caught sight of a hooded figured coming across the field toward the
warren from the carnival tents. He would have kept his eye on that one
if he hadn't been jarred from behind. He took a stumbling step forward
to catch his balance when whipping around he stared at that person who
had just run into him.
A "She" he corrected himself, seeing the girl's eyes widen and the
blush that rose from the throat to her cheeks.
"Well, hello," Jael chuckled. He hadn't seen her around before and
wondered if she'd come in with the carnival and wondered what she was
doing on the green. His misperception was corrected when she
apologized.
"Sorr... sorry. I... I was talking to ... Oriana... and... I wasn't
looking where I was going." Aeryth waved to the pale silvery-green
dragon who was waiting not far from Ophar.
"Ah, you're a dragonrider?" Jael immediately wondered whether she'd be
on his side or... the other. He asked the obvious, "New here?"
"Uh, yes. From Keldarra."
"Part of the Dragonlady's escort?" He asked quickly, and a bit
dismissively.
"Why, no... I'm a transfer." Aeryth replied.
Jael's eyes opened a bit wider and his dismissive attitude changed
quickly, and he Smiled, "Well, then, welcome to Whiteriver."
Aeryth had been a bit confused about his tone when he'd asked her if
she were a part of the Dragonlady's escort. Why he would think that,
since if she'd been a part of the escort she would have left with
everyone else, or why it would even matter was beyond her ability to
guess. His dismissive attitude had nettled her and her anger, oddly
enough, calmed her in the presence of this young, handsome, and
arrogant male dragonrider. She lifted her chin a little before she
replied, the blush beginning to fade. "Ah, thank you. I'm Aeryth,"
she said softly. "A-and you are?"
Jael still had the smile on his face. If she were new, then she
probably wouldn't be prejudiced one way or the other. He gave her a
little bow. "I am Jael. My dragon, Ophar, is over there near yours."
He paused to point his dragon out to her, making sure she was looking
at the right one.
Sure enough, she was looking right at Ophar and when she glanced over
at Oriana, Aeryth noticed that her dragon was also looking at the large
male with interest. Just barely managing to stammer, curse her nervous
stutter, out something complimentary, she inwardly groaned. She'd seen
her dragon with that particular look before and it made her
Uncomfortable. Realizing Jael was about to say something, she turned
her full attention back to him with an effort. "Yes?"
"I wanted to know if you had planned to attend the carnival tonight.
I," here Jael assumed a lofty pose, "have been down there already and
it looks very much like it would be an enjoyable thing to attend."
Aeryth barely managed to keep herself from fleeing the green. Go to a
carnival? With all the crowds? "I...hadn't really thought about it.
I don't know anyone here yet and I didn't want to go alone. Large
groups of strangers make me very nervous." Although they're easier to
hide in, she thought to herself.
Jael's eyes unfocussed in the typical manner of one talking to one's
dragon and then he chuckled, as Ophar told him that Oriana had just
confessed that it was because of a conversation Aeryth and Oriana had
been having about that very carnival that Aeryth had run into Jael in
the first place. Dragons could be so very useful.
"Go alone? Ah, then it is a very good thing *we* ran into each other.
I would be delighted to be your escort tonight," Jael stated. She
was certainly pretty enough, and it wouldn't hurt his reputation to
have already hit it off with the new girl. "Ophar knows where you
live. I'll be by to get you in about 3 hours."
Aeryth could hardly believe this was happening. She couldn't tell Jael
"No" about going to the carnival without appearing extremely rude. She
was many things, including almost painfully shy, but she was most
definitely *not* rude. Yet this whole situation left her feeling like
she'd been manipulated into having to say yes and going to the carnival
with this man who was pretty much a complete stranger. Even if, she
mused, he was a very attractive stranger. She took a deep breath and
gave him a shy smile. "Al--alright. I'll be ready." Then she fled to
her dragon as quickly as was appropriate and went back to her
apartment.
<~This is all your fault,~> she told Oriana as she dismounted and
walked into her living area. What in the world was she going to wear?
--
About Three Hours Later (Early Evening)
Aeryth had finally settled on some of her festival attire, the kind she
usually reserved for wear when she would be performing and needed to be
seen. It was a bit less reserved than what she usually wore, but she
didn't want to look bad. The shirt was the color of cream and with the
skirt of deep emerald, both colors which made her hair seem to glow
with warmth and her eyes to sparkle. The outfit was completed with a
bodice of black leather, which showed off her slender figure, and a few
gold bangles on either wrist. She had just been putting the final
touches on her hair, which she was leaving down with the exception of a
few sections she'd pulled back to keep it out of her face, when she
heard Oriana greeting another dragon as it landed on the ledge.
<~Your escort is here, my rider. Be nice to him tonight, I like
Ophar.~>
<~So I saw from the way you two were talking on the green when I ran
into Jael. I'll try tonight. I'm really, really nervous about this.
I'm not sure it's a good idea...~>
<~You will be fine. Now here he comes.~>
At least, Aeryth thought as she headed out of her bedroom and into the
main living area of her apartment, I had that much warning. She fought
down the instinctive feelings of panic that tried to overcome her as
she heard Jael's footsteps come toward her. After taking a couple of
deep breaths and winning her internal struggle, she managed a smile for
Jael
when he approached. "I guess I'm ready to go."
Jael appraised the girl and nodded. The outfit was a bit austere but
would do. Maybe he could suggest that she wear something that would be
a bit more attractive in the future. "Great. We can ride together on
Ophar." The last wasn't a question, and Jael returned to the side of
his dragon and offered Aeryth a hand to assist her mounting, leaving
her no choice but to do so.
Jael was quickly aboard and sat directly behind her. The saddle had
straps to hold them on, but Jael didn't bother to tie them, as they
were not going into battle and he had full confidence that Ophar would
never let him fall. They were airborne in a moment and a few powerful
strokes by the black dragon's wings sent them skimming over the warren
toward
the edge of the field where the carnival was set up. It looked magical
from above, with colored lanterns hung about and a throng of people
already gathered below to witness the spectacle. Even Jael couldn't
help but feel the excitement in the air.
The black dragon landed among other dragons dotting the edge of the
field. He didn't remain behind, taking off as soon as the riders had
dismounted. Jael sent him a mental warning to not be too far away,
just in case they wanted to leave early. He was hoping, at least that
would be the case.
They wandered about between the tents, watching the side shows and
tasting some of the savory food offered for sale. He jingled his purse
on his belt, glad that he had made a killing at the last poker game.
Jael began to relax and enjoy himself.
While Aeryth and Jael were wandering the carnival, Oriana and Ophar had
moved to the top of one of the warren cliffs that faced the carnival.
This way they could watch the goings on below them and yet not be in
anyone's way or be bothered. Oriana wished she could tell Ophar about
her rider's problem and have him warn his rider to take things slowly,
but without permission from Aeryth she wouldn't. She respected her
rider and even though Oriana thought she carried her wariness of
handsome men to the point of outright paranoia, she wouldn't tell any
secrets without permission. So she contented herself with snuggling
close to Ophar, who appeared perfectly willing to snuggle back.
As the two riders wandered the carnival, Aeryth began to relax. Most
of the people who were around her were from the warren and that made
her feel safer. There was also the fact that Jael, while flirting with
her, wasn't really pushing himself on her. It was helping her to
further
realize that not all men were pigs and that dragons, in general, did
not choose bad people to join with. "This carnival seems, I don't
know, cozier than the ones around Keldarra."
Jael turned to smile at his lovely companion. She'd been so quiet up
to this point that he'd been wondering if she were alright. "How do
you mean?"
Pleased that she'd gotten her observation out without stuttering once,
she replied to his question with more confidence, her voice a little
louder and showing some hints of how lovely she must sound when she
sang. "Carnivals around Keldarra were just so big. It was easy for
one to get lost among all the people and avoid being noticed. This one
is smaller and so, to me at least, seems more personal."
"And is that better or worse?"
"A bit of both, I think. There you aren't as likely to be noticed, but
here it's possible to hold a conversation with a, ah, companion without
having to resort to shouting. I supposed it all has to do with one's
temperament and how they feel about that sort of thing."
Jael bit back a smile, enjoying the fact that Aeryth was now actually
talking to him without seeming as shy or awkward as she had when she'd
bumped into him. "I see. And how do *you* feel about, as you put it,
'that sort of thing?'" He checked with Ophar while he waited for her
answer and discovered his dragon was quite contentedly curled up with
Oriana. At least the dragons seemed to be hitting it off splendidly.
Aeryth was smiling slightly, Oriana was very pleased that she'd
accepted Jael's invitation to the carnival and so was sending warm,
cozy feelings toward her rider. Aeryth had a sneaking suspicion that
there was more to it, but since she couldn't prove anything, she let
the matter go. Without even thinking about it, she reached out and took
Jael's hand, lacing her fingers through his subconsciously. She
answered his question without even realizing what her dragon had gotten
her to do. "I, for one, prefer to have my conversations without
shouting. If I wanted everyone in the area to know what my discussion
was about, I
would rather get up on stage and proclaim it to them like an actor in a
play."
Jael smiled, enjoying the feeling of her smaller hand in his, as he
replied, "I quite agree. No point in shouting out private conversation
for all to hear. I mean... otherwise it isn't private, now is it?"
"No," Aeryth said, sounding a bit distracted as they had approached a
booth that was selling some small instruments and music and she was
looking things over. "I don't suppose it would be."
"You're interested in this stuff?" Jael waved his free hand at the
merchandise on display.
"Yes. I'm a bard. Or, at least, I was training to become one before I
joined with Oriana and she proceeded to merrily turn my life upside
down." She let her eyes drift slowly over what was on display, moving
closer to Jael as a few of the rowdier carnival attendees moved past
them. "I really don't need anything," she murmured to him. "But I
have been meaning to pick up a second flute with a lower tone than the
one I've got already."
When the owner of the booth saw Aeryth looking, he bustled over.
"Anything I can help you with?"
"Yes, thank you. How much were you asking for that flute there?"
Aeryth replied, moving to gesture with one hand to indicate the
instrument she was referring to. Unfortunately, the hand she wanted to
use was the one Jael was holding. When she went to point and realized
that she was, in fact, holding hands with him, she nearly fell over,
blushing a brilliant shade of scarlet. "I...um...that is...could
you..." She tried to ask Jael to let go of her hand, but she was so
mortified that she couldn't get a coherent sentence to form, which had
her blushing even more. She'd just met him and already she was holding
his hand. How had this happened without her realizing it and, more
importantly, what must he think of her for doing it?
"This one, ma'am?" The booth-owner was quick to pick it up and offer
it to them, "Only 10 coppers."
Jael felt the tug on his hand and looked down. It was rather amusing,
as he watched the girl turn a pretty shade of red. But why did she
seem upset by the fact that she was holding his hand? They were, after
all, trying to stay together in a crowded fairway and it had seemed
completely natural for him to take her hand to keep her from getting
trampled on. Had she only now realized that she hadn't let go when
they had gotten out of the crowd into the vendor's booth?
Curled up with Ophar, Oriana could feel her rider's distress. <~My
rider! What is wrong?~>
Aeryth's mind voice sounded close to tears. <~I just found myself
holding his hand! I don't know when or how it happened. Or even how I
didn't realize it until now.~>
<~Him? You mean Ophar's rider?~> The big, silvery-green dragon
thought for a moment. <~Well, Ophar and I *are* cuddling up here on
the cliff...~>
<~So maybe it's because of you?~>
<~Perhaps. You've never relaxed with a male enough to have this happen
before. Maybe it's a good thing?~>
Still staring at her hand cradled in Jael's, Aeryth took a shuddering
breath and tried to calm down. Looking entreatingly up into Jael's
eyes, she tried again to speak. "Do you think we could go somewhere
with a few less people? I'll try to explain my behavior."
"What's there to explain?" Jael chuckled, "But, if you need your hand
for negotiation, I would be more than willing to relinquish it." He
was loath to leave the carnival, rather enjoying the stares he was
getting from some of the other bachelor-riders at having landed a
rather pretty companion. But then again... if she wanted to go to
somewhere more private... hmmmm.... He winked at the booth-owner and
handed across some coins with his free hand, "Will this cover the flute
for m'lady? She's in rather a hurry to be going." It was a bit less
than the 10 that the quoted amount, but the man eagerly took the coins,
realizing he might lose the sale if he didn't, and handed Jael the
flute.
"But, if you really wish for a bit more privacy...? I think I know
just the place." He quickly led the flustered girl around behind the
flashy show to the darkened tent where he'd drunk with the carnie
manager, Bubba, earlier. There was a lantern burning in there, turned
down low,
adding just the right atmosphere. He hoped Bubba wouldn't mind his
using the Man's "sanctuary" for a quickie.
Aeryth had relaxed a bit when they had moved away from the crowd, and a
bit more when Jael had ushered her into the tent. Giving him an
apologetic smile, she slipped her hand out of his and ran her fingers
through her hair in a nervous gesture. Taking a couple of steps away,
she took a deep breath and then turned back to look at him. "I'm
really sorry about that. It's just that it isn't really like me to..."
she started to try to explain her nervousness, but the look on his face
stopped her short and she really looked around at their surroundings.
Her eyes held a trace of suspicion when they once again met his. "Why
are you looking at me like that?"
Jael snickered, "Like what?" He closed the short distance between
them. "You wanted some privacy. well, here we are." He put his hands
on her shoulders and leaned in for a kiss. He was surprised at her
unresponsive lips and opened his eyes to find hers staring at him with
wide-eyed amazement. He backed up a step and stared down at her,
"What's wrong now?"
Aeryth had been extremely shocked when Jael had kissed her, but rather
than making her more frightened, (which would have been more normal for
her), it made her angry. She brought her arms up between their bodies
and then sharply outward, knocking his hands from her shoulders. After
taking a step back to give herself more room, she smacked him full in
the face, leaving a red mark in the shape of her hand. "You arrogant,
self absorbed bastard!"
--
On the cliff overlooking the carnival, Oriana suddenly pulled herself
upright and a little away from Ophar. He looked at her oddly. <~What
is wrong?~>
<~My rider is very angry all of a sudden. At your rider, I think. I
wonder what he did...~> she trailed off, then snorted out loud. When
she resumed speaking to Ophar, her voice was tinged with amusement.
<~He kissed her. She wanted to go somewhere quiet to explain why she's
so jumpy with him...he misinterpreted her intentions...and he kissed
her.~>
<~So why is it funny that she hit him?~>
<~Because normally she would have run from him. I think deep down she
really does like him, but didn't like him assuming she was ready for
that.~>
--
Aeryth stood glaring at Jael in the dim light of the tent, her face
flushed and eyes snapping with anger. On some level she realized
several things: one, that she was quite pleased with the shocked look
on his face and two, that it wasn't so much the kiss that had angered
her
as it was his obvious assumption that since he was a handsome young man
that she should automatically want to run off and have sex with him.
It calmed her a little, but she was still going to give him a piece of
her mind.
"What was that for?" Jael asked her, raising a hand to his face where
she'd slapped him.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because you're behaving like an arrogant
lout. I distinctly remember telling you I wanted to go somewhere quiet
so I could explain why I seemed so shy and jumpy with you. *You*
obviously heard only what you wanted to hear and assumed that just
because you're young, good looking, and our dragons seem to like each
other that I
wanted to get you alone so we could have sex. Unfortunately for you, I
would prefer to enjoy such liaisons somewhere other than on a pile of
straw, but perhaps you aren't the nice gentleman I obviously mistook
you for." After finishing her little speech, which she had managed to
get through completely without stuttering once, she brushed past him,
intending to leave.
His hand shot out and grabbed her elbow, twisting her around to face
him. "Wait!"
Her eyes were blazing as she turned back to face him.
Jael pulled the flute out of his belt where he had tucked it, "Here, I
got it for you."
He saw the confusion on her face and began to chuckle as the momentary
anger at being slapped faded. It certainly wasn't the first time a
pretty girl had smacked him. He noted that in spite of her apparent
resolve to be angry at him, she began to chuckle herself.
"My apologies, m'lady, if I misread your. intentions." Jael sketched a
bow as he presented the flute to Aeryth.
"Ah, thank you." Aeryth took the flute and brought it to her lips,
playing a few notes softly and nodding to herself before looking back
to Jael. "Really, thank you. I'd probably have forgotten it if you
hadn't gotten it. I tend to be rather scatterbrained at times."
"You are quite welcome." Jael smiled at her, glad she was so pleased
with the gift and no longer seemed to be angry with him. "I really am
sorry. Shall we go back out and see the rest of the carnival?" He
offered her his arm.
"That would be nice." Aeryth was extremely glad that her temper hadn't
driven him away. She ducked her head, biting her lip as she summoned
her courage, then stepped closer to him. Instead of taking his arm,
however, she slid her arms around his neck and, standing on tip-toe,
gave him a soft kiss. "You've earned yourself another chance." Then
she stepped to his side and took his arm, glancing over at him through
her eyelashes to see what his reaction would be.
<Thanks,> Jael sent to his dragon, for Ophar's intelligence from what
Oriana had shared with him had paid off and he had been rewarded with a
kiss from Aeryth. It was rather useful at times having a dragon. He
suppressed a chuckle. So, her dragon thought she liked him. so there
still was a chance that this evening wouldn't be a total waste of time.
"Well, I'll attempt not to disappoint you, or presume too much in the
future." He smiled down at her. "I think that there's a show starting
in the big tent. Look at the queue forming." He recalled her
nervousness and took a look at the crowd heading toward the tent.
"But. we could just walk around and look at the rest of the booths and
such if you'd prefer?"
"Actually, I'm more comfortable around large crowds, since it's easier
to escape notice. If you'd like to see the show, that would be okay.
Besides," Aeryth smiled up at him, leaning against him slightly, "with
you here I won't have to worry about being bothered."
She began to lead him toward the tent. "And I usually missed most of
the shows at the other carnivals I was at because I was often there to
perform myself. It might be nice to be a part of the audience for a
change."
---
Evening
They joined the crowd that was slowly filing into the tent. The hay
bales were set up around the arena and risers had been quickly
assembled to allow elevated viewing of the show. Jael managed to
clear a space for Aeryth and himself, by giving pointed looks to
certain warrenfolk
that had chosen a particularly good spot but "gladly" gave it up for
Jael when he approached.
But Aeryth didn't have much time to wonder about the generosity of
those who moved away so that they could get front row viewing, as the
show began almost as soon as they had situated themselves. And the
show was fantastic. The acrobats and tumblers began, followed by some
animal acts. Jael cheered enthusiastically for each one, while
surreptitiously watching Aeryth's reactions.
Aeryth was enjoying herself immensely, as she had never seen a show
like this before. She cheered the performers right along with everyone
else, turning every now and then to bestow a radiant smile on Jael.
When the show was over and they had moved out of the tent with the rest
of the audience, she moved closer to Jael, allowing him to place an arm
around her. "That was wonderful," she exclaimed. "Thank you so much
for bringing me down here. I haven't had this much fun in a very long
time. But I think I've seen enough of the carnival. Perhaps we could
go somewhere else?"
Jael smiled at her. Her excitement over everything was almost
childlike and very endearing, and it made her eyes sparkle in a very
fetching way. He gave her a little bow as well as he was able with his
arm wrapped around her. "Whatever my lady desires." He called Ophar,
telling the dragon to meet him where he'd dropped them off, and led
Aeryth in that direction. Thinking back to his earlier conversation
with Bubba, he said to her as they walked, "You know, there are
supposed to be fireworks at the end of the evening. Let me take you
somewhere that we can see them better."
Aeryth nodded. He had earned her trust now, and she was willing to go
off alone with him. She had a feeling that he had other hopes for the
evening and was experiencing a strong desire to avoid disappointing
him. She wanted to start making her own choices in life, independent of
the mindset that her mother had forced on her all throughout her
younger
years. One of those choices was to not limit her liaisons with men to
just the inevitable result of one of Oriana's mating flights. Since
that was all they had been up till now, she figured it might be a
novelty to actually choose her own partner and Jael was certainly a
good
choice.
When they reached Ophar where he was waiting for him, she saw that
Oriana had accompanied him. Seeing the way her dragon kept looking at
the large black male, she made up her mind. Turning to Jael, she
smiled. "I think we should be able to see the fireworks quite well
from my apartment, since it's so high up in the cliff face. Would you
care to join me?" She felt a warm feeling of acceptance and pride from
Oriana as she made the offer, and it made her happy to know that her
dragon approved.
Jael nodded. "I think you're right. And," he watched her carefully as
he said the next thing, not wanting to be smacked again, "it will
likely be far more comfortable than a bale of hay."
Aeryth laughed, the sound coming out more seductively than she'd
thought she could manage. "Oh definitely." Allowing Jael to help her
mount Ophar, the little group headed back to the Warren. When they
reached her apartment and had dismounted, the dragons departed and
headed to a place where both of them could perch more comfortably.
Aeryth went and got some blankets and such for them to sit on and she
snuggled against Jael as they watched the fireworks color the sky.
When the display was over, the two of them carried their temporary
couch back inside, Jael following Aeryth back into the sleeping area to
place the blankets on the edge of the bed. Then he reached for her
again and, to his pleasant surprise, not only did she not pull away but
she pressed closer to him and wrapped her arms around him tightly.
"Should I take
this to mean that you aren't going to hit me again?" He was only half
teasing.
Aeryth looked up at him and gave him a little smile. "Only if you stop
and leave now." Then she pulled his head back down for another long
kiss.
[NRPG: No real tags... but if anyone wants to see them together,
you're
more than welcome to comment. Maybe someone needs to warn Aeryth about
what trouble Jael is... if she'll listen.]

Summary:
Day 17
Late Afternoon
Returning from the carnival, Jael is run into by a young woman who
introduces herself as Aeryth, a transfer newly arrived from Keldarra.
Jael tells her about the carnival and invites her to attend.
Early Evening
Jael, on Ophar, comes to Aeryth's apartment to collect her and escort
her to the carnival. They enjoy the side shows and shopping at some of
the booths, where Jael purchases Aeryth a flute. Embarrassed by her
flustered behavior in the merchant's booth, Aeryth suggests going
somewhere quieter so she can explain.
Misinterpreting her intentions, Jael takes Aeryth to the tent he'd been
in earlier with Bubba, and attempts to kiss her. To his surprise,
Aeryth smacks him on the cheek. But since Oriana tells Ophar that
Aeryth really likes Jael, instead of being angry, Jael finds the
situation amusing and offers Aeryth the flute as a peace offering. It
works, and Aeryth agrees to go to the "big top" to see the show.
Evening
Jael and Aeryth get front row "seats" to see the show, (when some other
warrenfolk move out of the way at Jael's threatening glance). Aeryth
enjoys the show.
After the show Aeryth invites Jael back to her apartment to "watch the
fireworks" from the ledge. Jael is pleased that the evening appears to
be going his way and accompanies her back. They watch the fireworks
and then go inside to make some of their own.

Subject: [DL-D] Check-Ups Anyone?
[DL-D]
Day 1
Medical Center
Early Morning, Before Sunrise
Twenty-six new riders and their dragonets made it safely to the
Med. Center after a long night. Star is exhausted and feeling the aches
and pains from having to carry the egg she saved, then carrying
Sarette, while running to save them both from the Wyverns that had
broken into the Warren.
Star stayed beside Sarette through her first check-up.
The dragon healer told Star that although Sarette is smaller than
normal, she's in extremely healthy and strong.
As soon as Sarette settled down, resting comfortably between Neka
and Emil, Star slipped away to see a healer herself.
Star limped past mounds of dragonets, careful not to disturb them,
by stepping on a tail. As Star finally worked her way through a sea of
color that were sleeping dragonets, she spotted Alden and Alton sitting
on a bench, waiting to be seen by a healer.
Star limped her way over to the twins and sat down next to them,
smiling as she sat.
The twins smiled back at her, as she began to look around.
Star spotted Kizera, the night sift healer, just finishing up with
bandaging a dark-haired boy's arm.
When Kizera was finished with the boy, she made her way over to
Star and the twins.
"Okay, who's' next", Kizera asked.
Star looked at the boys, as they looked back at her and nodded for
her to go ahead. "Are you sure", Star asked them.
The boys nodded and Alton told her that they were in no hurry.
Star thanked the boys and followed Kizera over to the examining
table.
Star told the healer how she had injured her ankle, as the healer
lifted her leg for a closer look at Star's ankle.
Kizera began moving Star's ankle around, and Star had to clench
her teeth to keep from crying out in pain.
"Luckily, it's only a sprain, I'll wrap it and give you something
for pain. Then I want you to try to get some rest," Kizera said.
"I'll try", Star said.
After her ankle was wrapped and she was given something for pain,
Star limped across the room to the door, opening it a crack, Star
peeked out expecting to see more of those evil creatures wreaking
havoc.
What she saw was incredible.
The sun hadn't risen yet, but the sky had already lightened.
Star's eyes widened at the sight.
<Snip>
The whoosh in the air caught her attention as forty Alpha wing
dragons descended on the three wyverns that had managed to break into
the warren.
<End Snip>
Star watched in awe.
<Snip>
It was an impressive sight none the less as the sky filled up with
all the colors of the rainbow.
<End Snip>
The Wyverns were lost amidst all those colors.
Star stood there watching the spectacular view, as the sky became
brighter around them.
<Snip>
The sun had finely broken free and the warren was bathed in its
glittering rays.
<End Snip>
Star watched as the sun rose into the morning sky. She felt the
warmth on her face, as the sun's rays touched it.
Closing the door, Star turned back towards That larger area of the
Med. Center, where Sarette slept.
Grabbing a blanket from a table in the corner, Star limped past
the mounds of color, back to where her dragonet slept.
Star sat down on the floor, as close as she could get to the
dragonets, without disturbing them, then leaning back, resting her head
on the wall behind her, she closed her eyes.
A short time later, Star heard Sarette's voice, [I'm hungry, can I
eat?]
Opening her eyes, Star saw Alden and Alton feeding their
dragonets.
*Yes, precious one, I'll get you some food*, Star told Sarette.
Alton told Star where she could find food for Sarette, then Star
limped away.
Star retrieved the buckets of food for Sarette, then limped back
to her dragonet.
As Sarette ate, Star sat back down where she had been before, then
looked up at the twins sitting on the bench.
Alden asked if she was alright.
"I'll be fine, it's only a sprain", Star said as she lightly
touched her bandaged ankle.
Then leaning back, resting her head on the wall once more, she closed
her eyes.
[Star?] Sarette said
*Hmmm...?*
[Cu'we says to tell you that her and Weya are safe. Samson pulled them
to safety.] Sarette told Star.
"Sarette says that Weya and Cu'we are safe. It was Samson who
pulled them to safety. I expect they'll be brought here for a check-up"
Star told the twins.
"Hopefully, we'll know soon, if it's safe to leave the Med.
Center, and where we go from here. I could do for a long, relaxing bath
and some sleep." Star said, then looking at Sarette, she added "we both
could! I think that would be a good enough reward after the long night
we had."
With that said, Star leaned her head back on the wall once more
and closed her eyes, as she pulled her blanket around her.
Sarette curled up next to Star, placing her head in Star's lap,
while Star wrapped her arms around Sarette without opening her eyes.

Summary:
Day 1
Medical Center
Early Morning, Before Sunrise
After the new riders and their dragonets were safely inside the
Medical Center, Star stayed by Sarette's side through her first
check-up, at which time, Star began noticing all the aches and pains
she received during the night, including a sprained ankle.
After having her ankle checked out and bandaged, Star went to the
door and peered through the crack, expecting to see more Wyverns
wreaking havoc through the Warren.
What Star saw, shocked and awed her at the same time. Star watched
as dragons and their riders took to the sky, to battle the Wyverns that
had broken through into the Warren.
