Subject: [DL-W] One Step Back, Two Jumps Forward

         Day 18- Morning

Matt moved himself so he had enough room to move around should things
turn for the worst. He had thought he was far enough away from
Marketa for his past to be far behind him, but news travels faster
then a bird. He shrugged his shoulders a couple of times and let his
towel fall to the ground, though he did not take up a fighting stance.
Instead he simply stood there, calmly watching the thin woman
standing near the large queen.

"So, what's the commotion? Have I won something or am I just so
pretty you singled me out?" he said with a slight grin.

Merissa shook her head as his confusing answers, "No, you aren't
being arrested, and no you haven't "won something." Merissa wondered
why he'd worried about being arrested. She'd have to have the other
riders keep an eye on him. "Now. about the voice? How much do you
know about dragons. specifically, about dragons and their riders?"
Merissa gestured widely indicating the various dragons and their
riders who had gathered on the green. Some dragons took off in pairs
as they watched, going on their daily patrols.

Matt scratched his chin then crossed his arms. "Dragon's you say?
Well, I know they are big, then can fly, they spit fire, and they have
great big teeth. As to their riders, they have bigger.... ah, they
are braver then anyone I know. Now, I answered your questions, you
answer mine. Why did you single me out?" he said.

Merissa chuckled at his answer, "I didn't single you out, but
Chrysthal tells me that a little dragon back there has." Merissa's
eyes lost their focus for a moment and she appeared to be listening to
something as she nodded her head. The large lavender queen dipped her
muzzle and blew out a warm breath as if in agreement. Merissa looked
at the young man in front of her. "Matterick?" She saw his eyes open
wide in surprise and smiled, "You're wondering how I know? Your
dragon told me. Do you hear him calling you? He's tired and hungry
and would like for you to come to him. Do you know his name?

"Hungry and tired? What do you mean, he wants...." Matt trailed
off, frowning. His eyes lost focus for a moment, and in the sudden
silence a high crooning noise could be heard from nearby. Without
thought, Matt turned and bent down, scooping the newborn who had
ambled up behind him. The small head came to rest on his shoulder,
and the wings wrapped around his arms. Matt turned back to Merissa, a
strange _expression on his face. "Ialir.......and he's cold."

Merissa smiled and nodded, relieved that the joining had finally
taken place. "I'm assuming you will have a lot of questions... why
don't you both return with me to the warren and we can get you settled
in?" She saw the confused look on his face and elaborated.

"You are a dragonrider now... Whiteriver is now your home for as
long as you'd like to stay here. We have barracks for newly joined
riders and their dragons to live in until their dragons can fly... and
after that you can choose your own apartment."

Matt started after Merissa, a dazed expression on
his face. This was something so outside his experience that he did
not know what to do. He looked down at the tiny dragon in his arms,
and was met by the dreamy golden eyes. The newborn yawned once, then
its eyes drifted shut in sleep. Matt could hear murmurs on the edge
of his mind, but he could not completely focus on them.

He quickened his step enough to catch up with Merissa. He towered
over the smaller woman, but the confidence she put out made him feel a
foot smaller then her. "Uh... lady.... I'm not sure what to call you.
This is kind of freaking me out. First, what do you mean by me being
a dragon rider? And what kind of requirements are there and stuff? I
ain't have any formal school or such, I just know some tricks."

"I'm Merissa," She smiled up at him, still a bit amused by his
reactions. She clearly recalled herself telling Cali and Trinale
that she couldn't possible be a dragonrider... how long ago that
seemed now, yet also felt as if it were only yesterday. "And no one
becomes a dragonrider because of fulfilling any requirements. The
dragons choose their riders. But once a rider... all training and as
much 'schooling' as you want is freely available here. I was only a
bard when I joined." Then she looked at him with a bit of interest,
"And what type of tricks do you know?"

"Well... carnival tricks mostly. Jumping, climbing, tightrope
walking, flipping those kind of tricks." Matt said evasively. He was
still completely baffled by the revent turn of events, but his
cautious mind still held some secrets. He felt a tingling on the beck
of his neck, his 'trouble' spot, and he looked over his shoulder. Out
at the edges of the tents was Bubba, who was staring at Matt with a
strange expression. Matt smiled slightly at the large man, both a
promise and danger in the smile. he turned back and saw that the
small woman had once again stepped ahead, and he hurried to keep up
with her.

He moved close to her side and spoke softly. "Lady... uh, Merissa,
once I get settled in or whatever, I have something serious I need to
talk to you about. And I think it has something to do with one of
your riders."

  --------------------------
Summary- Merissa sends out search parties around the green to see the
dragon sensitive who the baby dragon might be searching for, finding
Matt as he walks back the carnival tents. What follows is a tense
situation as Matt almost views Merissa as a threat. He is quickly
swept off his feet and thrown into the deep end when he finally bonds
with little Ialir, but not before realizing the position of power he
now had over Bubba.

Subject: [DL-D] Why don't you and him look the same

 Day 1
  Pre-Dawn

The six watched as many of the dragons flew up into the sky and
attacked the beast that were coming down on them. It seemed as half
the warren went up to the Wyverns that would dare attack the warren
from the sky. Alton was amazed at what he saw. He had seen them in
action before but now that he was a rider it looked different a bit
more scary then he had in the past. He knew one day that he would have
to go and fight for his home. The though made him shiver. He looked
down at the dragon that stood next to him, he was looking up too at
the mess in the sky. Screams could be heard, from the good or the bad
guys he wasn't sure.
Emil pulled on Alton's leg. [I want to go inside!]
  *Alright... lets go inside.*
Neka watched as his brother walked in with his rider, he looked up at
his. He could see a growing fear, a fear that he couldn't make go
away.
Alden almost looked for the black ebony dragon that he had grown use
to seeing almost every were he went. But she had been gone for weeks.
He then looked for the green that now was seen a lot of, but he
remembered that he was down in the hole fighting the beast. Alden
wondered if they were still alive.
When he noticed that his brother and Star had left to go he followed.

  Early, Early morning

  <snip>
"Hopefully, we'll know soon, if it's safe to leave the Med.
Center, and where we go from here. I could do for a long, relaxing
bath and some sleep." Star said, then looking at Sarette, she added
"we both could! I think that would be a good enough reward after the
long night we had."

With that said, Star leaned her head back on the wall once more
and closed her eyes, as she pulled her blanket around her.

Sarette curled up next to Star, placing her head in Star's lap,
while Star wrapped her arms around Sarette without opening her eyes.
  <end snip>

It was not long after Star had shut her eyes that the boys were
called in. They were waiting for a room to open up. Alden needed a bit
more then some of the others, cause of his other injuries. So they
followed one of the nurses into a room their little dragons close
behind.

  A bit later

Alton sat on the edge of the bed watching his brother sleep in a
chair about four feet away. His head was leaning to the left and his
feet were propped up on a stool. Alden's arm was in a sling and the
scar on his face was covered in a white and yellow paste. Both of the
dragons were near Alden, Neka had his head resting on his lap. Emil
was sitting wrapped up with his brothers tail. He was staring at
Alton.
  [Are you two twins?]
  He nodded.
[Mommy said that lost of twins look the same.] He looked at Alden
then to his egg mate, then back to Alton. [Why don't you and him look
the same?]
  *We do!*
  [What happen to his face?]
He sighed. *Its my fault... he fell down a hole and hit a *few*
rocks.* He looked up Alden. *We are still twins and are still
brothers.*
[Its just like....Neka... his eyes are different them mine and his
tail is shaped funny.]
  *Yes it is....*
Emil looked to his brother and watched as he opened his eyes. [How is
your human?]
Neka looked up at Alden, whos face was pained. *Those things scare
him, now that he had got hurt.... his mind his racing with the though
of being killed by them.*
Little white Emil looked to his rider. *We'll we be able to survive
with the evil dragons out there?]
*Evil dragons?.....oh you mean those things?* He paused. *I don't
know.*
[I think we will....mommy said that there are not many twin dragons
born.I think we will survive!]
*Yes you two are very special... now get some rest.. ok?*
[ok, but wake me up if something happens...ok?]
Alton nodded, and smiled as the sun started to come though the window
and made the two little brothers shine. He was glad it was over... or
he liked to think it was over. He was glad that he and his brother were
alive and that the others too, and that Weya was sill alive.
Alden suddenly opened his eyes, and looked to Alton, there was almost
fear there. Then he looked normal like everything was cool.
  "What?!" He asked alarmed.
"Has the dragon healer or the nurse came?"
  "No..."
"Ok." He shut his eyes and went back to sleep.
Alton looked at him dumfounded. "What was that about!"
  He muttered. "Bad dream... "
Alton shook his head and looked out the window.

<<TAG: To anyone, Do what ever!!>>
