M'lady we have to go now before they find us here," The man told the
woman
he was trying to help up off the bed where she had laid in a drugged
half
sleep for how long he did not know. He knew they didn't have much time.
Those he'd been dealing with would soon come looking for him and he
needed
to get this lady out of the area before they could stop him.. or go
through with their plans to use her as ransom against the Warren.
He had found out she was here only by over hearing a chance remark in
one
of the many pubs he'd visited in the time since he'd left the Warren to
go
looking for her. Small chance the remark would lead him to her.. So
many
others leads had failed, but in his profession he'd learned that even
the
smallest lead might prove to be that tiny threat that would unravel the
whole case.
As in this case. It had taken him almost a year to find her, and a few
months more working his way into a position of trust with the ones who
had
been holding her before he'd been allowed to walk free around the place
without eyes following his every movement.
It had taken more time to come up with a plan to get her away from here
without alerting those who were holding her. After all he couldn't just
walk her out the front door to where their dragons would be waiting for
them. No if these people saw dragons other then her own, (who they kept
calm with threats of killing her captive rider) then they would know
something was up, and he knew they would kill the woman before they
would
let dragonriders attempt a rescue.
That was why he'd had to get help from the outside from someone he had
worked with before. Someone who would create a diversion once he got
her
out of the building. He couldn't leave just yet. He had to wait until
the
alarm went up so he could make sure the he could throw off the trackers
who would be sent out after the woman.
The woman moved slowly, but she did move somehow realizing that he was
there to help her. He saw her violet blue eyes open wider as a glint of
recognition registered.
"Mmm...artyn?" she muttered through a throat that hadn't been used for
speaking in a very long time. "H..ow...?"
"Shusss M'lady," he said calming her as he helped her to stand on
unsteady
legs. "We have to move quickly, but quietly to get you out of here and
back to Troy before anyone sees us"
"Ttroooy.." she became more alert and he could see she was trying to
fight
the drugs she had been given. The mention of her Queen and the promise
of
seeing her gave the Ex Warrenlady of Daere Warren the will to fight.
"Take..mee too her.. Need.. tooo see..feel.. her.."
"I will M'lady," he promised as he ducked under her arm and pulled her
body close to his to help support her. "I promise you'll be reunited
with
your Queen soon."
They moved as swiftly as he could lead them down the back hall and up
onto
the roof when he sent the silent request for his dragon to come get
them.
While they waited, Martyn found the long rope he had hidden up there
earlier and tied it around first Jayleigh and then around them both
leaving a few feet free for his dragon to grab onto and pull them to
safety.
"Hang on to me tight M'lady," he said in the most soothing, reassuring
tone he could manage. "My dragon is going to lift us out of here in a
moment and take us to where Troy, your Queen will be waiting for us."
He'd already had his dragon contact Troy and explain to her what was
about
to happen. She was to listen and when she heard that her rider was
safe,
she was to lift off the ground and meet them in a location far away
from
the area they were now in.
Martyn had his mate, a healer waiting for them, so she could give
Jayleigh
a quick look over before they decided what to do next. When he was sure
the rope were secure, he sent the request to his dragon, Havelok to
come
get them.
Slowly the gray dragon lowered himself downward just far enough to
grasp
in his claws, the loop of rope his rider was holding up to him. Just as
carefully, with great effort for the maneuver, Havelok slowly rose in
the
air gaining speed until he had enough altitude to teleport away.
Koda, and two others were waiting in the clearing as first the former
Senior Queen of Daere Warren, and then Havelok landed next to the three
dragons already waiting in the clearing.
Ribbon, the purple dragon who was bonded to the Healer, Lakoda, moved
quickly to the Queens side sending out reassuring croons and wing
caress's
to help settle Troy down. When she finally realized that she knew the
purple dragon, Troy did began to settle, only slightly until she was
reunited with the touch of her much beloved life mate.
After they had landed, Martyn slowly, but carefully handed Leigh down
to
one of the two men waiting. Traplin.. better known to most people by
the
nickname of "The Shadow", turned with the woman in his arms as the
Healer
Koda came closer.
"Bring her over here where I can check her over," the tiny healer told
him, but Martyn told her that could wait a few moments.
She needs to see Troy, he told his mate as they witness the woman
trying
to escape from Trap's arms. "They kept her away from her dragon for a
long
time, so now that she's free, she won't believe it or settle down until
she can see.. feel for herself that Troy is okay. Let her reassure
herself
first and then you can check her over."
Trap nodded in agreement and muttered soothing words to the
Ex-Warrenlady
to let her know Troy was near and he was taking her to see her queen
now.
"I'm taking you to see her now M'lady and you can see for yourself that
she's fine. She's waiting for you."
And then they were there beside her and Trap lowered Jayleigh down
until
the woman could hold on to her Queens claw for support.
He left her there as Leigh began to cry tears of joy and healing with
her
first touch of the queens body, and went back to stand by the others.
When
he got there he heard them discussing the best place to take Jayleigh
now
that she was safe.
"We can't take her back to Daere," Martyn told them. "Until we figure
out
what happen and who sent her that message getting her to leave the
Warren
unprotected in the first place. It's just to dangerous for her to go
back.. especial with all the unrest right now there. If we take her
back
then they'll know she's still alive and that might bring danger to her
family."
"What about Keldarra?" Koda asked, and looked around at the others,
before
turning her healer trained eye back on the woman who had given her a
second chance in Daere when she was in need of one. "They keep her safe
there."
"No," both Wisp and Trap spoke up quickly, then Trap let wisp explain
why.
"They have enough troubles of their own right now. It's not a safe
place
for us to hide her out," He told them. "We can't take her there."
"Well I'm open for other suggestions"," Koda shrugged and looked at her
mate.
They both saw the look that past between the other two men.
"Jasra Warren," Wisp said finally and they saw Trap nod his head in
agreement. "It's one of the last places they'll think of to look and
they're pretty isolated in as far as someone just dropping in without
warning. Trap and I know the lay of the land better then most of the
people who have lived their all their lives so we can provide her with
better protection there then anywhere in your side of the Dragonlands."
Koda wasn't too sure about keeping the woman so far from her home and
it
must have shown on her face, because Wisp went on.
"Trap and I both know people we trust who live in Jasra, so we know
they
will keep an eye on her and out for strangers in the area if we ask
them
too.."
"Isn't that where your sister went when she left Telnor Warren Trap?"
Koda
asked and the tall blond headed rider's lips relaxed slightly into a
smile
as he nodded his head.
"The Warrenlady there is well known to both Trap and I," Wisp went on
explaining. "I know she can be trusted to help us out."
Koda spoke up before her mate, Martyn could bring up any objections.
"That's good enough for me... So long as I can stay with her and keep
my
own eye on her recovery." She told them in her best healer tone. The
own
she used when daring anyone to disagree and tell her she couldn't do
something.
"Actually that's a good idea," Wisp agreed. "Jasra is without a Head
Healer at the moment and I know the Warrenlady Tara would be thrilled
to
have a healer of your caliber working there in the Warren."
"It would be the perfect cover," Trap had to agree.
Koda had to look at her mate to gage his reaction. Then asked," What do
you think? It could be good for Talera living here away from the
trouble
Daere is having now."
"Talera?" Wisp asked, not recognizing the name. "The fewer people who
know
about this the better."
"Talera is my one year old daughter," Koda said stiffly. "I do not
think
she will be telling anyone. And I will not move here without her."
"Noted Healer Lakoda," Wisp bowed his head slightly. "They have an
excellent child minder in Jasra that I can highly recommend. In fact
her
daughter is a Dragonrider. Her name is Shawnee, Doshey's rider,
formerly
of Whiteriver Warren."
Koda's blue eyes opened slightly, showing pleasure. "The same Shawnee
who
is mates with Saul and Fayloth?"
"One in the same," Wisp nodded.
Martyn moved to put his arm around his mates waist. "We'll get M'lady
Jayleigh settled in the Warren and then I'll go back to Daere and
retrieve
our daughter and the rest of our things. She is with Realee and Jerlin
right?" Koda nodded. "Fine.. then I can go back, get our daughter, the
rest of your medical supplies...No love it'll be alright... you always
have your supplies packed and labeled so I'm sure I won't leave
anything
behind... I can explain things to Realee and Jerlin at the same time."
They all discussed it a bit longer then While Koda went to examine
Jayleigh, who was calmed now that she had spent time with her Queen..
When
their plans were settled, and they tried to get Jayleigh to leave Troy
and
ride with Martyn... She refused. She refused to go unless she could
arrive
on her own Queen. It took a bit longer to rig up a sort of saddle, and
then when Jayleigh was mounted and roped in with safety ropes.. Knowing
the Ex Warrenlady's mind was still clouded by the drugs she had been
given
the other three dragons ( for Wisp left Smoke hidden, knowing he could
not
enter the Warren on the dragon no one knew his real self, Lord Darden,
rode.) focused their minds on the Queen to make sure she had a picture
of
where they were going.
They were challenged as soon as they appeared in the skies over the
Warren, but were soon allowed to land when they explained they had an
injured Queen Rider in need of medical care.
Still they had an escort to the med center where Koda began giving
orders
which were followed as if she and the nursing staff had been working
together a long time.
Lord Darden and Martyn after finding out from Saul and Shawnee who had
come to greet them, that his niece had been injured and taken away from
Jasra to heal, had to be talked out of going after them. Saul assured
Wisp
that Jerram had taken off with another rider who would protect them.
"I'll try to get a message to our Junior Queen for now, but they are
involved in treaty talks with our .. friends.. who live in the seas
around
here," Saul told them and look at his own mate who nodded. "Until then
Shawnee will assign riders and dragons to keep an eye on the area.."
Not much else needed to be said. Martyn trusted Wisp and Trap, having
worked with them in the past, and Saul, rider of Fayloth he knew mostly
by
reputation. Jayleigh would be safe her in Jasra until he got back from
Daere.
"My mate and I would like to stay here until such time as M'lady
Jayleigh
is well again. Actually my mate will not leave here until such time,"
he
told them with a slight twinkle in his eyes. "Lord Darden says he did
not
think that would be a problem."
"No," the beautiful mate of Saul's spoke up for the first time. "We
would
welcome you and your mate here in Jasra. I'm looking forward to
renewing
my friendship with your mate. I meet her once when she came to
Whiteriver
and helped us with a nasty little bug there. Will your daughter be
coming
with you?"
"Yes lady Shawnee, she will be," Martyn nodded and Shawnee could tell
he
loved the little girl. "I will be leaving here as soon as my mate is
settled and retrieve Talera from the couple who are watching her for
us. I
was told that you have a family member we might be able to mind her for
us
when we are performing our duties."
"Yes my mother, Tasha," she told him. "She would be happy to have
another
little girl, and If I remember, our two daughters are not to far apart
in
age, so they might become friends."
"That would be wonderful news indeed," he said and looked at *Lord
Darden*
who suddenly gave a short chuckle. When they turned to look at him he
was
grinning.
"Sorry... Smoke just talked to what he said was a very satisfied Queen
dragon," he explained seeming a lot more relaxed then he had moments
ago
upon finding out his niece had been injured. "Seems Jasra's Queen
decided
to rise to mate when the magic surrounding her rider was lifted away.."
"It's a good thing Kay and Sabbith went with her then," Saul chuckled
and
turned to look at his mate with a wicket grin on his handsome face.
"Isn't
it about time for Doshey to rise.."
"Behave yourself my love," the blonde blushed. "We've guest to settle,
and
I should check in with Healer Lakoda to find out how our *guest* is
doing."
"I'll go with you to see my mate, if you do not mind," Martyn asked.
"I'll
worry less if I know Lady Jayleigh is going to be okay."
"Why don't I take him over to the med center to see his Warrenlady and
you
can find out which apartments are available," Saul cut in and Shawnee
could see the sense in his suggestion.
"Fine... I'll also talk to my mother about keeping your daughter," she
agreed.
Martyn turned to her. "If it's not asking for to much.. We need an
extra
room for my Lady's Healer things. She likes to have her own stores at
hand
and in order in case of need."
"That shouldn't be a problem," Shawnee told him and looked back at her
mate for confirmation. "Our old place might be just what you are
looking
for and it's near enough to the med center to be convenient, and it's
got
ground access which will be safer for your daughter. It just got to
small
for us with three children, and two dragons. But I think you and your
mate
will like it. If not you can look for something else when you have the
time."
"Thank you Lady Shawnee," he bowed slightly from the waist and then
turned
back to Saul and Lord Darden, "Now I would like to go see Jayleigh and
make sure for myself she is going to be alright. And then I'm going to
go
back to Daere report what I was able to find out happen to her...
Unfortunately I was too late to save the poor woman and her dragon so
far
as the Warren will know, but I will tell her parents the truth.
Explaining
to them that it would not be a good idea to come see her at this time
because of the danger to M'lady.... Grab our daughter and get back
here
as quick as I can."
"We'll take care of her while you're gone," Saul promised, holding out
his
hand to the man. "Both of them."
Martyn went to check on Jayleigh and then he and Havelok left Jasra for
their trip back to Daere.....
